Saturday Night Card Game (“Big Boy” says “boy” and race card players go wild)

And now I rise to the defense of one Christopher James Christie:

George W. Bush nicknamed him “Big Boy.”

This dust-up is so stupid and pathetic it makes my head hurt.

You see, when you call a black man a “boy” it’s a racial pejorative. When you merely use the term “boy” as an expression in a sentence in the presence of a black man, it’s merely an expression.

Here’s Big Boy’s interaction with a crowd at a church forum (at:155)(via Hot Air):

Christie:  “You can yell all you want about “fix the public schools”Man: “Fix the public schools!”Christie: “Yeah, I hear ya, boy, I hear ya. I hear what you’re saying, but let me tell you something else. What I hear is the despair, I hear the despair of folks all over this state….”

Obviously Big Boy used the term “boy” merely an expression. But the race card players went right to work.

It started with Blue Jersey:

Gov. Chris Christie Calls a Black Man “Boy” in Paterson, NJ

This week, Governor Chris Christie let his famous command of his own image slip and said something to an African-American man – in a church in Paterson – that we have not heard in many, many years in New Jersey. In America.

Accompanied by this video:

Here’s what Democratic Underground ran using the same video as Blue Jersey (emphasis in original):

Gov Christie calls African American man “Boy” during town hall meeting

BlueJersey.com reported Friday that during a town hall meeting at a church this week in Paterson, NJ, Governor Chris Christie let a racial slur slip when he called an African-American man a “boy,” a term closely related to the more severe “N” word. Christie has, in the past, touted a morally clean public image and has been quoted as saying “language matters; language is a window into attitude.”Racist asshole

HuffPo ran with that theme as well:

Chris Christie Uses Term ‘Boy’ In Heated Exchange At African-American Church

During an event at an African-American church in Paterson, N.J., Gov. Chris Christie used the word “boy” during a heated exchange with a man in the audience. The governor has a loose and colloquial style, and no history of racial animus in his past, but his remark and how it’s been heard by the black community underscores the challenge Republicans face as the party begins its post-election outreach.

Raw Story put this parenthetical under the video:

I don’t think they believe what they are writing, it’s all just a game to them.
