At last minute Obama dropped price from $5 to $3

At last minute Obama dropped price from $5 to $3

Wow, something really, truly desperate was going on at Team Obama. I’ve pointed out the cheesy $5 dinner raffle and closing days begging for $5 donations

but last night as the June 30 reporting period came to a close, Obama dropped his price from $5 to $3.

Just $3, and for that you get to enter the $5 raffle?  That’s how desperate Team Obama is to run up the numbers of “small” donors.  I wonder how the people who paid $5 feel.

Here is the text of the e-mail forwarded to me by the same reader who forwarded the $5 solicitation two days ago, sent by Team Obama at 10 p.m. (Eastern) last night:

I wanted to say thank you before the midnight deadline passes. And I’m looking forward to thanking four of you in person over dinner sometime soon.

If you haven’t thrown your name in the hat yet, make a donation of $3 or more before midnight tonight — you’ll be automatically entered for a chance to be one of our guests.

More soon,

“I wonder how the people who paid $5 feel.”

Same way they felt before I imagine. Abandoned, disoriented, taken advantage of and at least slightly stupid.

this has got to be a headfake.

Yes, at first I thought they were concerned about the dollars, but likely the big donors have given plenty. Rather, this is about the number of donors, an Axelrod/Plouffe attempt to paint a picture of grassroots support. It’s a complete charade, Obama wines and dines the millionaires and billionaires he claims are not paying enough in taxes, but all you will hear about from the campaign and media is how many “small” donors there were.

To be fair, you don’t have to pay anything to enter the contest. Although I must wonder if he’s meeting disclosure requirements to avoid gambling laws, I have a feeling he isn’t in at least some states.

How embarrassing. *wince*

You are right that it is about the number of donors — that’s always been BO’s style — get the bulk of his money from the big donors, then get a small amount of money from a large number of donors on his anyone-can-give-even-mythical-people website and pretend all his money comes from the “small donors.”
It’s always been a scam.

I wonder if the credit card verification settings are any higher than during the campaign. It would be great if Mickey or Donald won.

Awing1, what is it about: “make a donation of $3 or more before midnight tonight–you’ll be automatically entered for a chance to be one of our guests.”

You don’t get to enter the contest unless you pony up at least $3.00.

Did you fail Reading Comprehension?

I’m kinda conflicted here – would be a good use of my $3 if I could win a ticket on behalf of some smelly, crazy, homeless steet person. Downside, is the $3 would help the campaign. so I guess no can do.

$5: with fries, $3: no fries.

Jiminy. Kids sell raffle tickets for schools and churches! The $5 amount is easy for the kids to get. They sell whole books full of raffles to their parents friends. And, to relatives.

It’s very telling that obama needs to go after people for a measely $3 bucks. You’d think he could be selling tee-shirts … (like the “fist one” unions sell their members in Wisconsin). And, he’d make more money on the markup than he could get on these cheap raffle tickets.

It’s even more of a pity if the purchasers are really poor people, who go without food, if they’re holding a losing ticket.

Let’s see, Phil. It’s $5 with flies? And, only $3 without? For the $5 ticket to they include a fan? Doesn’t waving a fan get rid of flies?

And, another thing. Moochelle won’t allow fries served.
