GOP Rep. Mike Gallagher Resignation Effective Today at 5 PM

GOP Rep. Mike Gallagher Resignation Effective Today at 5 PM

The Republican will only have a two seat majority.

The House Republican majority dwindles to two votes when Wisconsin Rep. Mike Gallagher’s resignation becomes official at 5 PM ET.

The ever-excellent Chad Pergram breaks it down for us. The Republicans can only lose two votes now:

House:

429 members
217 Republicans, 212 Democrats
Six vacancies: Late Rep. Donald Payne Jr. (D-NJ) died. Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) along with former Reps. Bill Johnson (R-OH), Brian Higgins (D-NY), Ken Buck (R-CO) and Mike Gallagher (R-WI) resigned.

The Republicans could gain another chair next week in a special election to replace New York Democrat Brian Higgins.

Nice reasons to support Ukraine. I don’t know how the opposition to Ukraine support became a thing. Most of the support just authorizes old stuff on shelves that’s about to expire to be shipped out to be replaced on the shelves by newer models.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8tXdDzjQL1A

But no serious attempt to secure the southern border of the US. As I recall Republicans supported that at one time.

My opposition to Ukraine is because they can’t win. They don’t have the Manpower and they don’t have the industrial capacity. When your average soldier in your army is 47 years old, you cannot sustain your military anymore. I’m opposed to wasting billions ofI’m opposed to wasting billions of dollars sending weapons where there’s nobody to use them. Then, of course, there’s the whole money laundering operation that is ukraine.

No one can explain how long and what the goal is. Is the goal for the Ukes to take back Donbas and Crimea (that Obama gave Putin on a platter)? If so, how? If not, why not settle?

How did Obama give Putin Donbass and Crimea on a platter? I haven’t heard this one before.

Obama did a very aggressive thing against Russia. In the middle of the Sochi Olympics hosted by Russia, Russia’s chance to look good on the world stage and put on a great show, and they did that, in the freakin’ middle weekend of it Obama started Maidan, not all that far from Sochi itself. And all Russia could do was try to keep the Olympics safe and on track, then deal with that hostile revolution next door later.

The goal has always been to retake back Ukrainian territory. How long that takes isn’t really a consideration when it comes to your own sovereign territory is it.

I mean the left is all hot and wet for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza but somehow when it comes to the war in the Ukraine the left turns in to the “never ending war” party.

True. The problem is that Biden doesn’t seem to have an endgame, other than a hyperbaric chamber. Of course, it’s unclear on a day-to-date basis whether Biden knows there’s a war. If he did, and if there were an endgame, then supporting Ukraine to get to a ceasefire from a position of strength would be a decent goal. Simply abandoning Ukraine at a moment of US weakness emboldens Russia, China, Iran, etc., etc.

      Because it’s not ‘support’.

Ukraine is LOSING, and will CONTINUE TO LOSE, no matter how much money is sent.

Americans like to win, and they can see that just shotgunning money down the rat hole to pay off contractors and corrupt politicians while Ukraine loses slower is a stupid strategy.

In fact the Ukrainians having been inflicting horrific casualties on Russia with the territorial losses being directly related to supply issues precisely because of US inability to supply ammo

You can’t really call it a “Forever War” as they will soon run out of Ukrainians.

The Forever War is a classic SF novel about a seemingly endless (not to mention brutal and senseless) interstellar war between humanity and an alien civilization. And although the analogy between the fictitious Forever War and the ones in Afghanistan and Ukraine cannot be pushed too far, there are still eerie parallels.

You’d think there would be some obligation to voters whose vote you took for the duration of the term, in the era of lockstep voting.

Slowly giving the Congress to Democrats to stop Trump.
A Democrat congress will nullify the election

Well, we owe it all to Trump that we have the Dems in control of the Senate. Remember Georgia? Remember the “big red wave”? It never happened, because of Trump. Because Trump told Republican voters in Georgia that the election was rigged against him, so they shouldn’t even bother to vote. So these stupid Trump Republicans believed him, and they didn’t vote, so we ended up with the Democrats in control of the Senate. Same thing will happen this time. But of course it will never be Trump’s fault. It will be because the election was stolen, just like Gore, Hillary, and Stacey Adams said their elections were stolen. All losers say their election was stolen. All peas in a pod.

It is easy to focus on just Georgia since it was a high profile contest that had a run off since no one got over 50% of the vote in November.. Even if the repubs win Georgia that makes it just 50-50 with Harris casting tie breaking votes. The problem was the repubs only won one of the highly contested senate seats in 2022 and that was Johnson in Wisconsin. They lost winnable battles in Arizona, Nevada, New Hampshire and Pennsylvania. If you want to assign blame to Trump why overlook Ronna Romney who was a complete failure leading the RNC.
In 2024 the dems have far more seats to defend with even more vulnerable candidates, if the repubs can’t flip it under these conditions they may never do it.

Tony Gonzales (T-23) is in a runoff next month with YouTube personality and 2nd Amendment activist Brandon Herrera. I haven’t seen any polling on the runoff. So, I have no idea who competitive this election is going to be. But, if Gonzales – a Swamp Creature – loses, it’s unlikely he would serve out his term.

At this point, I’ll be surprised if Jefferies isn’t Speaker before the end of the year.

We need to support Ukraine because 1) Russia is bad, because our media and the Democrats and Hawks say so, and 2) because.

Russia is bad because 1) they want to recover some strategic territory that’s been part of their colonialist patriarchy past and 2) because everyone says so.

So what if instead of just leavin’ Russia alone (while keepin’ a watchful eye on them) we piss them off, apply sanctions, arm the rebels fighting them in a small border dispute, piss them off more, and push them into a stronger alliance with our largest potential adversary, China? He would have done that anyway, because he would, you know? We know. Just like we know the oceans will swamp NYC, Miami, and Albuquerque.

Biden doesn’t owe Ukraine anything, since we all know the courts haven’t shown there’s any proof that Hunter and the rest of the Biden family benefited from any dealings with Ukraine.

Ukraine is the best democracy in the world, with open and free elections. And on top of that they love the poor long suffering Jews. They loved them so much back in the late 1800’s you could say they loved them to death. Why, the Russian (Ukrainian, actually) Cossacks loved my grandfather so much that they left quite an impression on him. On his skull. I still wonder why grandpa left Odessa on a steamer and came here. All praise glorious Ukraine, love you to death.

Yeah, I’ve got Ukrainian blood but it feeds a Boston Tea Partying, HMS Gaspee burning, Declaration signing Patriot body.

Let Ukraine wash its own stinking laundry. We’ve got enough problems as it is. Handing out lines of coke money like it’s a frat party is so 70’s, guys. Get real or go home

Today Democrat congresscritter Donald Payne Jr. of New Jersey died. Watch carefully. Sometime in the next week or so, another GOPe Republican will resign so that they can keep shaving down the Republican majority.

the non aligned omar dems and the rinos will OFFICIALLY form their own party after decades/centuries of acting as opposition to each other

they will be able to do so with ease as they claim the fringes of both parties have taken over

this MIGHT even lead to a euro style parliament vs our congress configuration arrangement we currently have for show

long live the queen ( well at leas the surviving members of the group)
