Trump Wonders Why Gillespie Oppo Research Failed To Find Northam Photo

Trump: “Ed Gillespie . . . must now be thinking Malpractice and Dereliction of Duty with regard to his Opposition Research Staff. If they find that terrible picture before the election, he wins by 20 points!”

Despite his announcement Saturday that he has no intention of doing so, Virginia governor Ralph Northam (D) struggles against mounting pressure for him to resign, and President Trump is wondering why Ed Gillespie’s opposition research team didn’t uncover the Northam med school yearbook photo.

ABC News reports:

Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam defiantly refused to resign Saturday and denied that he was in the racist yearbook photo that led to widespread calls for him to step down immediately.

The photo, revealed on Friday, shows two men, one in a full Ku Klux Klan robe and hood and another in blackface, on Northam’s medical school yearbook page from 1984. Northam graduated from Eastern Virginia Medical School.

. . . . “Yesterday I took responsibility for content that appeared on my page that was clearly racist and offensive. I will not excuse the content of the photo. It was offensive, racist and despicable. I was seeing it for the first time. I was unaware of what was on my page. I was appalled that they appeared on my page,” Northam said at a lengthy press conference at Virginia’s Executive Mansion.

“I believe now I am not either of the people in that photo. It is disgusting, offensive, racist,” Northam said.

The explanation did not stop the growing tide of politicians from calling on him to resign.

President Donald Trump took multiple shots at the Democrat on Saturday night, tweeting, “Democrat Governor Ralph Northam of Virginia just stated, ‘I believe that I am not either of the people in that photo.’ This was 24 hours after apologizing for appearing in the picture and after making the most horrible statement on ‘super’ late term abortion. Unforgivable.”

The president also managed to slam Ed Gillespie, whom Northam beat in last November’s election, though. Trump endorsed Gillespie multiple times in the lead up to the election, but criticized his opposition research Saturday night.

The left is busily calling this tweet a “slam” against and a “shot at” Gillespie, but is it?

Everyone is wondering why Gillespie’s oppo team failed to uncover this photo . . .  or if it was uncovered, why the campaign failed to use it, particularly in light of Northam’s race-based attacks on Gillespie like this one via The National Review:

Citing Gillespie’s opposition to sanctuary-city policies, Northam and his allies explicitly labeled his opponent’s policies “racist” on numerous occasions.

VA is an inclusive and diverse community—we won’t put up with Ed Gillespie’s racist rhetoric and fearmongering. https://t.co/WjEnUPBkXS

Where was the fucking media? Bet Rags left flap they knew about this guys racist past but deliberately chose to conceal it from the people…Because protecting racists paedophiles, homosexual killers and rapists (otherwise known as Democrsts) is what they do.

Where is the media ever? In the Covington Catholic incident, it was bloggers who discovered the nearly two-hour video that proved the boys totally innocent and disproved Ethan Phillips’ lies.

I checked out some of the sites catering to blacks, and what I found was that they are calling for Northam’s scalp because they want a black in his position, namely Justin Fairfax who is next in line for Virginia governor.

Kind of ironic that claims of racism are being used to promote black racism.

Politics is always about picking the lesser evil, so what is worse, Northam staying, or allowing yet another PC operation to put a black in office in this manner?

Shouldn’t conservatives be looking at rather Northam or Justin Fairfax who is next in line for Virginia governor are best from our perspective?

It’s not just a question Gillespie should be asking; all republicans in VA should be asking it of the republican party in VA. They have a long history of feckless performance in elections. This is just the latest example.

He (Northam) supports infanticide and racist activity. At least he didn’t say “Macaca”, so it’s all cool

Actually, the left wants Northam out because the Lt. Gov. is a black man, who is even farther left and more pro-infanticide than Northam (if you can imagine that).

Maybe Trump reads LI and caught my comment yesterday:

And… so for 30-odd years Northam had never looked at the page dedicated to him in his college yearbook. One has to also ask how the yearbook producers obtain personal photos; my experience (although almost 60 years ago) was that the yearbook staff solicited class members for photos.

I was a college yearbook editor in ’67. Our staff took all the pictures.

I think Trump zeroed in on the killer question: why did the governor apologize?

If he never participated in anything like that, why is he not sure?

Chicklet in reply to Petrushka. | February 3, 2019 at 5:39 pm

And even if you didn’t buy the yearbook (sure, right) you knew exactly which of your classmates were in every photo, how many YOU were in and how many times you were mentioned. So, it seems the guy is a liar, who woulda guessed…..

Milhouse in reply to Chicklet. | February 4, 2019 at 1:45 am

Maybe you knew those things. Many people wouldn’t. This was not high school. I think most people in that class of graduating MDs would only have been peripherally aware that there even was a yearbook. They asked him for pictures so he gave them some, and then probably forgot they even existed.

30 years ago it wasn’t nearly as ‘bad’ as it is today.

Remember Ted Danson going to the (I think) Friars Club in black face? He went with Caryn Elaine Johnson, better known as Whoopie Goldberg. It did make the news but back then, journalists were journalists and had more important things to report on.

NGAREADER in reply to amatuerwrangler. | February 3, 2019 at 2:25 pm

Hard to believe he never saw it until now.
Yesterday he apologized for being in the photo, today he asys it’s not him.
Maybe he found out the other guy isn’t alive to contradict him or he has contacted him to get their stories straight.
Either way, the longer this goes on, the better. This really shows anyone that might be swayed by facts, what hypocrites he and his party are.

JusticeDelivered in reply to NGAREADER. | February 3, 2019 at 8:34 pm

Well, I don’t remember hardly anything about my HS yearbook, but then I was already auditing college classes, which I found far more interesting than high school stuff. I viewed the yearbook as bush league stuff. Some of that may have been because it was such a small high school. We had less than a hundred graduates.

And… so for 30-odd years Northam had never looked at the page dedicated to him in his college yearbook.

How could he? He says he never bought one, and I see no reason to doubt that. I didn’t even know graduate schools did yearbooks. I would have thought qualified MDs would be too old for such things.

Because “That’s not who we are.”

Because the Ed Gillespie campaign staff were all Democrat infiltrators. Be surprised at how many there are. They will do anything to sabotage the Republican candidate. Just ask Sarah Palin.

Subotai Bahadur | February 3, 2019 at 3:00 pm

1) “Journalists” are all employees or willing subjects of the Democrat Party or those farther Left. They were almost surely actively concealing this and are probably actively concealing more.

2) The election goal of the GOPe in Virginia, like that of the GOPe here in Colorado and in most of the country was to lose any hold on power that they could to the Democrats.

Subotai Bahadur

The left is saying that? The left was tweeting the same stuff before Trump got to it. This isn’t the first time such a thing has happened, when Trump is a late comer to something (say, Colin Kaepernick) and everyone acts like he invented the issue. Ah, yes, here it was…

https://twitchy.com/dougp-3137/2019/02/02/journos-wonder-why-gop-oppo-didnt-dig-up-northam-blackface-pics-everybody-else-wonders-why-the-media-didnt/

RINOs like Ed Gillespie would rather lose gracefully than offend any elitist/liberal friends.

They did not fail to find it. They just didn’t want to be called mean by reporting it.
They threw it the election. Just like McCain and Romney.

Ralph ‘Coonman’ Northam’s #Racism AND #Infanticide??

Captain Obvious

I don’t understand Northam’s about-face at all. If he wasn’t in the photo, it’s much, much worse that he chose it to include in his yearbook page.

The short answer is that Northam WAS in the photo. After his confession he realized that it would have been better for him instead to gaslight the public and point-blank lie.

Northam also realized that Democrats have zero leverage over him. What are they going to do? Refuse to pass his genocidal abortion policies? Bottle up his communist agenda and impeach him? For a yearbook picture? HA! Northam and his Democrat co-conspirators know the GOPe will go fetal with terror at the mere thought of reminding voters of this in 2020.

The Governor of Virginia is chosen in a odd numbered year. Northam is still viable until 2021. One thing which sets Virginia apart from other states, is that the Governor can only serve one term. Yes, this was a Democrat idea.

Yes, but if the parties were reversed Democrats would make the pictures the main campaign issue in 2020. Northam would become the running mate for every GOP candidate on the ballot in 2020.

        VaGentleman in reply to Stan25. | February 4, 2019 at 1:40 am

Not completely accurate. The governor cannot succeed himself, but can be elected again. The restriction was introduced with the 2nd VA constitution in 1830. Mills Godwin served as the 60th and 62nd governor. [Interesting note: He was elected once as a democrat and once as a republican.]

Milhouse in reply to Zumkopf. | February 4, 2019 at 1:51 am

He says he didn’t choose to include it in anything, and has no idea why they put it there. And that he never looked at the yearbook and knew nothing about it until last Friday.

I want to know which news organization had these photos before and during the campaign.

That would be far more interesting than the perpetual incompetence of the RINO’s in Virginia.

    Quick answer: All of them.

I cab’t ever find the exact quote when I want it- but the function of the MSM is to take any news that makes Democrats look bad and smother it with a pillow until it stops moving.
