Schumer pretends he has bargaining power, takes The Wall off the negotiating table

Playing chicken with Trump’s Wall may not be the best strategy

Senate Minority Leader Schumer managed to single-handedly tick off the entire Democrat, progressive, and liberal political world with his inability to bring home any bacon from the shutdown fiasco.

Rather than agreeing to a deal Friday, before the federal government funding ran out, Schumer insisted on dragging out negotiations until Monday, only to concede. As if that weren’t bad enough, the agreed upon deal gave even more tax cuts to Republicans.

With his base up in arms, Schumer withdrew a handsome funding package for Trump’s long-promised southern border wall. Or so claim the Democrats.

Dick Durban, the second-highest ranking Democrat says Schumer called the White House to tell them no deal, but the White House says the deal never existed.

Politico reported:

Chuck Schumer is taking his big spending boost for Donald Trump’s border wall off the table.

The Senate minority leader, through an aide, informed the White House on Monday that he was retracting the offer he made last week to give Trump well north of the $1.6 billion in wall funding Trump had asked for this year, according to two Democrats. And now they say Trump will simply not get a better deal than that on his signature campaign promise.

Schumer “took it off,” said Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin, the No. 2 Senate Democrat. “He called the White House yesterday and said it’s over.”

In the now-famous cheeseburger summit last Friday with Trump, Schumer offered a large increase in border wall spending as a condition for a broader deal to help Dreamers. But after that offer was rebuffed — prompting the three-day government shutdown — the president has now “missed an opportunity to get the wall,” one Democratic aide said.

Hogan Gidley, a White House spokesman, said Tuesday that the Schumer offer “never existed.”

“You can’t rescind money you never really offered in the first place,” he said on Fox News.

Enter Republican Senator Tom Cotton (still Politico):

“They claim that some crazy deal was made,” Cotton said of Democrats. “And then when we say no deal was made, they accuse Republicans and the president of reneging.”

Given how poorly Schumer handled the shutdown, it seems plausible any pronouncements sternly removing bargaining chips off the table is purely political posturing and an attempt to save face.

The story seemed to be that Schumer offered to “authorize” the wall, but not to fund it, which was a non-starter.

There is a long history of “authorize” without funding for border security, so this isn’t the first time this ruse has been tendered.

The ultimate prize is 3.6 million illegals and chain migration which can forever tilt the country blue. The prize is within reach. Any and everything can be put into the bill to please Republicans as long as the prize is there. All the Republicans get then is a stay of execution. Once the country is under one party rule there is no going back. We can see Eurabia forming… as for the USA it will be Alta Hispaniola with little enclaves of Asians, “Africans” and “Europeans”. Brown may not be the last gringo governor of Alta California… just the penultimate one.

Wow. That sure seems sorta…I dunno…racist.

There are LOTS of very conservative Hispanics. They come from all over. The Hispanic population trends toward being MORE conservative over time.

It’s a lot like Mark Steyn’s very wrong assertion that “the border moved north” regarding the Hispanic population of school kids in Arizona. Many, many of whom are as American as apple pie.

I think it’s safe to say that if Mexicans were predominantly evangelical Christian conservatives, the wall would have been built eight years ago.

The demands for mass immigration, wherever the arise are cynical political maneuvers.

        WTF…??? So it’s Catholics now…???

So, if you are brown and not Evangelical, we need a wall to screen you out?

To be clear, if you ARE brown AND an Evangelical, you can come here in violation of our laws?

How ’bout if you are kinda yellow, Buddhist, and “conservative”? Is that OK?

“I think it’s safe to say that if Mexicans were predominantly evangelical Christian conservatives, the wall would have been built eight years ago.”

Could you please elaborate, I’m not sure what this is all about.

Mexico has had a large Catholic population. However the Revolution of 1917 had a very negative effect on how the Catholic Church was being treated. The President then was a Mason, and very anti-Catholic. This would include burning churches and killing priests, and making the saying of Mass a capital offense. I suspect the United States benefited when devout Catholic Mexicans came here.

rags, you’re so adorable! You play the race card faster than the nearest blm member.

Without you, we would have no idea what profanity-in-search-of-meaning would look like. Does your grandmother at the top of the basement stairs know the effluent she shares when you kiss her?

Let’s add Shumer a curve ball an add Voter ID to the immigration debate.

I don’t always agree with your opinions, Rags (but then I don’t post that often anyway), but you’re not wrong. The most anti-illegal immigration folks I’ve ever known were LEGAL (especially Mexican) immigrants. There’s a place in Fontana, CA (I used to drive trucks for a living) that was called Mama’s. That was it. Just Mama’s. She and her husband were legal immigrants from Mexico and they had a combination convenience store & tacoria (Mama made the most AMAZING tacos & burritos!). If someone who was illegal, and Mama knew they were illegal, made the mistake of walking into their store, she’d chase them out with a broom. I’m not kidding. I saw it many, many times. She HATED illegals because she and her family came here the right way and they are (her words) “trying to get something for nothing”.

To be fair, I should disclose that I myself am a naturalized American. My family came to the US (legally) when I was 16. I still consider myself German in culture, but with an American spirit. Even worse (to Liberals), I’m also a Texan!

I’m sensing a deal which can be paraphrased as “I’ll give you some unspecified number of dollars sometime in the future in exchange for you betraying every campaign promise you made on immigration now and granting full amnesty and citizenship to any illegal immigrant who claims to have been here since before they were 18, regardless of if they can prove it.”

And the money would never show.

What good is a 1.6 billion dollar border wall if there are not sufficient human (read: military) assets on the north side willing to strictly enforce the immigration laws on the books today?

It’s a rhetorical question.

Immigration before emigration reform… diversity (e.g. racism), labor arbitrage, gerrymandered districts, welfare profits, mass exodus (e.g. refugee crises), a progressive cover-up (PC). Placing illegal aliens before American women, men, girls, boys, and babies, too, and immigrants waiting for their color to be picked. Compensating for Planned Parenthood and similar dysfunction. Bad optics.

“I’ll gladly pay you Tuesday for a hamburger today.”

i’ll gladly pay for your wall for DACA today

LOL

WHAAAAAAAA!

-Chuck Schumer

Are those Costco reading glasses painted onto his face?

Does he wear them when he has sex? (Does he have sex? Are he and pelosi the new Bozozinski/Morning Joke?

Long ago some people noticed that the Republicans spent so long in the minority, that when they won a majority they acted as if they still had to ask Democrat permission for every little thing. A bit of that persists still.

Now, we’re seeing the reverse. The Democrats were in the majority for so long – and even during the Obama years they had huge political power, despite their decreasing numbers – that now that they are a true minority/opposition party they have no idea what to do. They continue to act as if they are in charge.

Schumer is an old dog who doesn’t even recognize the need to learn new tricks. Good.

Just like the weekend minidrama, Schumer hasn’t thought this thing through. What happens if they don’t agree? Trump wins, that’s what. Here’s why: with no agreement, Dems won’t try another shutdown, they can’t, because it won’t work. If it gets to March 6, then Trump can put pressure on them by starting to stage roundups of DACA members, and then what will they do?j

Any negotiation, when one side can back the other against the wall, that side gets what they want. Like I said, Schumer hasn’t even tried to think this thing through.

Schumer, et al, pulled the trigger on the Government shutdown for only one reason, to keep the FISA memo off the Sunday talks and to have the shutdown dominate the news cycle. Then, like clockwork, the Dems started the government up again on Monday. In order to have a reason for the shutdown, not related to the REAL reason, they chose protecting the DACA people. Now, they have a goodly portion of their support base mad at them. And, all of this smoke and mirrors is an attempt to salvage their position. It all means nothing.

Crush your Schumers, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of their Pelosis.

Schumer is hilarious! He can take whatever he wants off the table, but if President Trump does not get what he told the Democrats they must be sure to include in the bill, the “Border Wall” funding, stopping chain migration, and repealing the visa lottery system, then there will be no DACA bill and on March 6th the DACA people will start being deported. So I’d advise the Democrats that if they really do care for the DACA people, they had better get on board with what President told them that he required, or they will definitely be deported, so act accordingly, because President Trump does what he says he will do, unlike Obama.

Shutdown Schumer and force his retirement.

McConnell made it very clear from the Senate floor that there will be NO negotiations over DACA if the Dems try the shutdown stunt again on Feb. 8.

Why is it that the wall can’t be funded thru reconciliation? Why can’t the Republicans use reconciliation to pass the most important of Trump’s goals? If the progressive fascists could use it to ram ObamaCare down our throats why not do the same to them? Is it the GOPe insisting on following the rules and letting our enemies cheat?
