Anti-Semitic attack on Sydney school bus, threaten to cut Jewish children’s throats

Screaming ‘Heil Hitler! Kill the Jews!’ they want to cut out our throats’.”

Anti-Semitism is becoming a pervasive, worldwide problem hinged on anti-Israel attitudes.

Australia has seen numerous anti-Israel protests and an increase in anti-Semitic incidents.  A Rabbi visiting from Israel was recently attacked.  Some of the Australian media have engaged in anti-Semitic tropes.

In the Bondi area of Sydney, a group of religious Jews recently was attacked:

The latest attack was on a school bus used by a Jewish school, from The Daily Telegraph – Australia:

JEWISH schools are on high alert after eight drunken men stormed a school bus and threatened to cut Jewish children’s throats this afternoon.

The men allegedly boarded the bus which was carrying children from Mount Sinai, Mariah and Emanuel kindergarten in Bondi.

One witness said her three daughters aged eight, 10 and 12 on the bus were traumatised.

“The bus driver opened the doors for these strange men and allowed them on to torment the kids,” Jackie Blackburn said.

“They were screaming ‘Heil Hitler’, ‘kill the Jews’, ‘Palestine must kill you Jews’, ‘we’re going to cut your throats and slice your throats open’ — just all very bad anti-Semitic stuff.

“I’m shaking like a leaf. My kids are on a private school bus it’s only for Jewish schoolchildren.”

She described the panicked call made to her by one of her children. “She said: ‘Hey Mummy, please help us, there are eight strange men who have been let on to a school bus and they are screaming ‘Heil Hitler! Kill the Jews!’ they want to cut out our throats’.”

There is video at the link, but as of now, it’s not embeddable. (update – video added, thanks to commenter tip)

The story continues:

Noah, 12, was sitting on the back of the bus.

“They got on and couldn’t walk properly and looked drunk and said they had just been pumping drugs in the city,” she said.

“They said ‘come sit with us, we won’t do anything’ so we went to the bus driver and said ‘get them off the bus’ and he said ‘don’t worry’ and told them to ‘zip your lips’.

“We were panicking and crying. When they got off the bus they said ‘f*** Jews’ and ‘stop taking over Palestine’ and ‘we will kill you and cut your throats’.”

You are mixing up cause and effect. Israel hatred is based on anti-Semitism and it has nothing to do with anything Israel does or does not do.

I have actually known people here in North Carolina that, when I asked them ‘Why do you hate Jews ?’, they answered ‘The jews killed Jesus’, with a straight face, and they mean it, and their entire families agree, and they teach it to their kids.

There is no arguing with that kind of (substitute for) thinking.

Radegunda in reply to pjm. | August 6, 2014 at 11:24 am

      Questions to ask them:

“Don’t you believe that the killing of Jesus was what bought salvation for humanity? If you don’t believe that, then you’re not a Christian, are you? If you do believe it, how can you be mad at Jews IF they made it happen?”

“But wait: Didn’t you know that crucifixion was a Roman punishment, not a Jewish one? Didn’t you know that (non-Jewish) Romans controlled the region and could have stopped the execution?”

neither the romans or the jews killed yashua, as he wasn’t invented until the 2nd century. there is no evidence whatsoever of a historical jesus. none, nada, zip. i’m pretty sure if someone had being doing “magical” things, someone would have mentioned it.

It would seem in 93 CE Josephus referred to earlier written accounts of this Jesus. Of course that doesn’t have to disrupt your faith in … whatever you have faith in.

          http://www.josephus.org/testimonium.htm

Very few followed him to the end .. why would there be great records left? He didn’t build a great temple, and was rejected by men.

He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.
          Isaiah 53:3

Why would such a man have a prominent record in secular history?

But I don’t believe there was a flood that covered the highest mountains as recorded in Genesis, so can’t accept OT or NT as God’s prophecy.

I really just want people to be civil and rational, and the Biblical records can certainly help with that.

Radegunda in reply to pjm. | August 6, 2014 at 11:26 am

      Most important:

“Don’t you realize that without Jews there would have been no Jesus at all? Didn’t you know that Jesus was a Jew?”

Every year, during Lent, every Catholic Church around the world (at least, I suppose that it is every church) puts on the Passion Play, in which the New Testament’s version of the trial of Jesus is reenacted. The villiany of the Jews is showcased. The Jews refuse to allow the Roman Pontis Pilate to pardon Jesus and insist that the pardon be given to Barabbas. The Jews accept the blood of Jesus on their hands.

Historically, there were anti-Jew riots (“pograms”) following the Passion Play virtually every year in Poland, Germany and other parts of Europe and Russia.

The fact that the Jews (as portrayed in the Passion Play) were necessary for Jesus to make His sacrifice for all of us, and that without the Jews (as portrayed) there would have been no crucification, no death of Jesus, no sacrifice and no forgiveness of sins has been overlooked in centuries of anti-Semetism. And it is not likely to be recognized now. Just like no one is going to thank Judas for his essential role in the establishment of Christianity.

The fact that the role shown for the Jews is historically hogwash is completely overlooked. Jesus committed no crime against Jewish law that merited capital punishment. And as pointed out, crucification was not a Jewish method of execution.

So it was rabid Jew-hating Catholics fresh from church who attacked that schoolbus full of kids in suburban Sydney? Is that the point we’re trying to make here?

        Roses are Reddish,
        Violets are Bluish
        Were it not for Jesus
        You’d all be Jewish?

I heard that from only one, but he is virulent “anti-Zionist”. Most see common links with Judaism, namely the perfection and grace of God and imperfection and intolerance of man. And the corrupted Pharisees were not the same as the common Jewish people that Jesus ministered to in multitudes.

But Jesus indeed condemned the Pharisees as whited sepulchers, and sadly this happens all the time when power becomes concentrated, in religion or government circles, or on campuses. Institutions become corrupt, neither kings nor popes nor Pharisees are infallible.

That is the beauty of the decentralized government we have, which recognizes man answering to God first, and the men in (civil) power being constrained (ideally) by the constitution. Love God, Love your neighbor … basic decentralized government tea party stuff. 🙂

Standard Evangelical teaching is Jesus HAD TO DIE because of OUR sins. His death was the only way God could be both righteous and just. Just as He died for past sins He died for future sins…of people like you, me, and those who blame Jews for the crucifixion.

So every sinner is responsible for the death of Jesus. And no one other than Jesus Himself ever lived/ lives a sinless life.

Mike45 in reply to Howard Roark. | August 6, 2014 at 3:45 pm

“And no one other than Jesus Himself ever lived/ lives a sinless life.”

I thought that Mother Mary lived a sinless life; the Blessed Mother was born without Original Sin (the true meaning of Immaculate Conception). Don’t you know the old joke about Jesus and Mary Magdalene, “Let he who is without sin throw the first stone”?

The problem is – these assholes could have started slitting the children’s throats. You just do not know when you are dealing with anti-semites – especially Moslems. Remember the guy that went up to the El-Al counter at LAX and opened fire. Or, the JCC’s around the US that have been attacked.

You never know when some loser is going to decide he is a terrorist.

So, what is being done about it, especially the driver?

I assume there’d be video from the bus, and that the police would have been notified? I mean, from the photo it looks like a great big proper public transport bus, with a bus number and a legible license plate and everything – not some piddly little local private thing. Even if there weren’t video, surely it wouldn’t have taken much time to find and question the driver and such?

It shouldn’t take the authorities long to get to the bottom of whatever happened. Whether it’s white supremacists or muslim extremists, I can’t imagine that an alleged broad-daylight attack on a schoolbus full of children by a gang of men threatening to slit their throats is going to pass under the radar. Australia’s not quite England in that regard yet, is it?

I am sorry, but this kind of incident can only happen when authorities do little or nothing about it, effectively encouraging these behaviors.

If that would have happened here, I think, the a-holes AND the bus driver would immediately be arrested. Then charges would be filed against them for aggravated assault against minors, hate crime tossed in the mix of course.
The driver would be fired on the spot. He/she would never again be allowed to work around children.

This is a horrible story and not only because of what the children were subjected to. It raises more questions than it answers. Australian media is evidently no more competent than US media.

There has always been and always will be anti-semitism but the sharp rise around the world is all due to the increase in immigrants from the Middle East. Just look at any of the photos of the protests and you will see a lot of arab looking people leading the protest. This is the way they operate in any country they live in. They remain ubiquitous when their numbers are small but as their numbers grow they start acting the way they did in their old countries. Muslims will NEVER get along with Jews and if they can annihilate them the Christians will be next. Islam apologists are like the gingerbread man riding on the fox to cross the river. We all know what happened to gingerbread man.

Little Australian Jewish kids terrorized by drunken thugs.

Feel-good story of the day.

For Steven Salaita, that is.

i thought imbibing alchohol was verboten by mo-ham-adens.

William thanks for highlighting this story. As I learn more I will pass on that information.
There is another story involving a person by name of Mike Carlton who wrote a vilifying article. He resigned when confronted but claims he is the victim who has been bullied.

BannedbytheGuardian | August 6, 2014 at 6:51 pm

It is not clear at all what transpired .

School runs either by private or govt buses are chartered for this purpose & only stop at designated schools for pick-up. So I cannot tell if this is a general bus run or charter by the pic. Why these youths would be allowed on is unexplained.

The text in this article ( which at least is covering it) is not definitive either .

Police are questioning 5 youths . I wait for their statement . ( they are able to confiscate cell phones ) so whilst the alleged offenders are juveniles we should get a better understanding though not the names etc.

I just ask that you give the NSW Police some time . Australia is not the Uk & not pro Muslim ( NSW State jumped on the Islamist Video protestors with riot police right up & squashed them . A problem is the judiciary is full of Jewish & ‘liberal’ judges who are very lenient. ( An Australian Jewish judge drafted The Palestinian Constitution for instance ) .

This guy ( whom I heavily disliked for his pro Islamist immigration rulings going back to the 70s) donated law books to the Palestinians in the belief they would follow the way of The Legal Eagle . Hahaha.

I waited 20 years till he finally tripped himself up & got sent to prison for perjury . Because of him & his ilk , unfortunately I am not accepting the kids story either without investigation . Dey got dem sum skanks also.

it could be that your information is out of date. If the bus was a public one, and it was a route that is listed for passenger pick up, then if the louts had flagged down the bus, then the driver is required to pick them up.

There are things that are not clear about the story. I assume more information will become available. The louts exited the bus at Bondi junction.

I am assuming that they were simply drunken left-wing loonies of some sort, since it is the left and in particular the Green movement that has been so vocal in their vilifying of Jews in Sydney… and that includes their latest protest at a Max Brenner chocolate and coffee shop (Max Brenner has really nice chocolates and the coffee is really nice… so…. next time I am near one, I will make sure that I have a coffee!!)

My information is still current as of local Sydney time of 2.20 PM – 22 hours after the incident .

It I still unclear what the bus was though it. Is using the newOpal ticketing system .( public bus chartered or on normal route) .the Parents claimed in the first reports it was specifically charted to pick up school kids. In that case the youths should not be on it .,If it was a public one then other passengers would be on it & thus be witnesses. ( all eastern suburbs runs are busy routes – there are a lot of of older residents & old style apartment blocks with no garages. I ‘ve live on the corner of Ocean Rd & Bondi Junction & the 320 ( iIrc) took 20 minutes to the city . I never needed a car.

I always back my assertions up .My point is to LI readers that this is a populous wealthy area though Bondi does have an awful lot of Kiwis. For example Hugh Jackman is an Australian & baddie Crowe a Kiwi. Bondi itself is a bit precious ( they protested the underground train coming to Bondi in case it brought undesirables so it had to stop at Bondi Junction & let out the hordes into the Westfields Mall.

Aussie – these are very serious allegations that require NSW Police investigations – which they are receiving.

3 of the boys who were picked up by the police have been charged. 3 other boys have been cleared. The children have given statements to the police. There is a discrepancy between what the bus driver is alleged to have said and the claims of the children who said that they approached the driver and were told to keep quiet.

This is the second attack in Bondi within a short period of time. The previous attack involved adults being bashed and abused by a group of 8 individuals making some of the same threats.

BannedbytheGuardian in reply to Aussie. | August 7, 2014 at 7:48 am

2 of the boys who were causing mayhem in Rose bay were not even on the bus , yet they have been labelled anti Semitic in absentias!

NONE of the 3 have been charged. Juveniles undergo a differing process & even so ,there is a long way to go in the absence of evidence .. Police are reduced to interviewing 5 – 10 year olds . They will need to isolate them from their parents to get any grounds .or defence will shoot their claims down in court . Jewish are not the only ones who are lawyers in Eastern Sydney. If the parents of the boys feel they have been hounded it isgoing to be a battle . ( my bet is that they are equally wealthy if they hang out in Rose Bay) .

You cannot have trial by social media .

BannedbytheGuardian | August 6, 2014 at 7:55 pm

Apparently there were 2 rally’s in Sydney which might have contributed to the atmosphere. One was a pro Palestinian / anti Israel to which a Jewish. Professor. Peter Slezak addressed .in the city .

There was also a 10,000 pro Israel rally in the vicinity of the bus vilification incident earlier a few kilometres away in the eastern suburbs .

The University of NSW to which the professor is attached is smack bang in this district also .

( my claim to fame here was once , walking Edgecliff /Dover Heights , I was bitten by a monkey chained to a front fence. ) . It is a very eclectic area!

The tables will turn one day. It will be these oppressors who will be on the receiving end of what they are now calling for.

BannedbytheGuardian | August 7, 2014 at 4:42 am

The initial police estimation is in .

– the bus route is a scheduled multi school run.
– The ‘offenders ‘ were schoolboys who used their bus pass to board .
– CCTV does not show anything untoward . The boys were standing in the aisle as per usual late boarders . Not all the seated children were Jewish .
– NSW schools all wear specific uniforms & school students are easily identifiable .
– the boys were later found in a salubrious address ( Rose Bay ) somewhat drunk & not fit for questioning till the afternoon .
-the bus driver was not aware of the incident .
– The NSW Police have seen the footage & it looks like they are denying the severity of the incident . That is not to say some charges will not be laid but so far ,none.

Events have made the children hyper sensitive & telling a few tall tales? It is 50/50 just now .
