Good news.

Thumbs Up for comments are back.

Bad news.

Thumbs Down for comments are back.

It proved to be a formidable challenge, for a variety of reasons, after the plug-in went wild in the wake of the Great Blog Meltdown of March 2013, and After-Meltdown Tremor.

You voted to bring it back, and we have.  (Fingers crossed.)

Thanks to Andy LoCascio and his team at Sound Strategies, our new technical consultants, who have been known to perform miraculous feats.

Testing…1, 2, 3. Up-arrow me to see if it works.

Or down-arrow this one. Go ahead. I can take it.

Huh. I connected a second mouse and tried to upthumb and downthumb myself at the exact same time and my copier blew up.

Weird. It let me down-arrow myself.

I gave you a thumbs up. I hope it helps you and that you will offer a thumbs up to others who need it.

What are you, some kind of redistributionist??!?

No, it was entirely a voluntary thumb gesture. Creeper was thumbs down. I offered him a thumbs up. I hope his thumbs reciprocate.

          Well, my thumbs did.

Just FYI, they’re girl thumbs, though.

Loved the “existential” tone of your comment.

Interesting. It would appear that thumbs disappear after several replies to a comment.

Congratulations, you have reached a state of thumb saturation. At this level, there are no thumbs up or down, only a state of unknowable bliss.

You know some thumbs up when the news is ambivalent.

Hey, this is fun and a great stress-releiver!

Maybe I’ll just stay on this page all day rather that following all of the depressing news.

UpThumbing, the new Upworthy.

I like that one must be registered to do the thumbs up and thumbs down.

That’ll help keep the troll droppings down!

I for one oppose the return of the thumbs up/down feature due to the way it discriminates against liberals, who, by definition, have no opposable thumbs. WAJ is a.. a… THUMBIST.

My song to Joy:

Thumbthing in the way she posts
Atwacts me like no other poster…

Oh, thank goodness. Not having the thumbs was like being outside looking in with no way to join the party.

Remember not to abuse your thumb privileges or they’ll be revoked by the internet Gods!

What about the other digits?

There is another digit frequently used to evaluate the ideas or opinions of others, and even critique their driving habits.

This is a clear case of digitism.

Good point. The + one should be a thumbs up, while the – one should be the digit to which you refer.

Now that is a comment that even an Aussie understands. You are talking about a universal sign or use of two digits 🙂

Ah, my muscle memory says thank you. All that fruitless clicking (cuz I likes you all so much) wore me out.

I just made good on my promise to send a donation once the thumbs came back. Thank you, Professor!

I just ran home real quick so I could log on my home computer and upthumb all my own posts again. Now I’m off to the library. Then Best Buy. I’ll own this place if I don’t run out of gas.

Good. Glad to know that I can denounce myself somewhere other that just the Cube…

Juba Doobai! | May 23, 2013 at 10:23 pm

Highly enjoyable. I just went down the list up and down thumbing just for the heck of it. Whooee! Ding Dong! The thumbs are back!

Henry Hawkins | May 23, 2013 at 11:23 pm

Of course, they are WHITE thumbs.

I like the thumbs up/down feature as it does give some indication on just how relevant one’s comment might be.

OTOH, the later you comment, the less attention it will receive.

Nothing’s perfect but I like it anyway…
