EU Foreign Policy Chief says nuke talks with Iran have failed

No One Could Have Seen This Coming

Via BBC:

Talks between world powers and Iran on its nuclear programme have ended without agreement, with the EU saying their positions “remain far apart”.

Over two days of talks in Almaty, Iran was asked to give up work on its most sensitive nuclear activities in return for an easing of sanctions.

EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton confirmed no deal was reached….

“It became clear that the positions… remain far apart on the substance,” Baroness Ashton told reporters on Saturday.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov confirmed there had been a “lack of results”.

“Unfortunately we were unable to achieve a breakthrough and are still on the threshold,” he was quoted as saying by Russia’s Interfax news agency.

According to AFP news agency, he also said no time or place for the next talks had yet been agreed.

This is the same charade that has been going on for years.  From the archives:

The only precondition we put on negotiations is that we will help keep the Mullahs in power in exchange for an Iranian compromise which never comes.

I’ve been accused of being a conspiracy theorist before, does anybody else think that the North Koreans (DPRK) making all sorts of noises right now is more than simply Kim Jong Un trying to shore up his own domestic standing?

His threatening suddenly makes him the big threat on the block, and if we’re potentially having to gear up for a new conflict with North Korea, gearing up for an Iranian strike would be less likely. Or at least public perception of a strike on a country that has “not yet” obtained nuclear weapons when one already “with” nuclear is openly threatening war would appear that our priorities are out of order to the average, low information (Liberal) voter.

I think we’re being snookered with a classic “misdirection” play. Everything here is not as it appears.

More from the trophy-room of the SmartPower(tm) debacle.

I said long ago, we will be very lucky if we don’t wind up in a hot war before the Obamic Decline ends.

People see weakness.

No sh!t.

Nobel Prize, please…

1. Wow, Hillary has been out of office only two months, and Iran and North Korea are both boiling over.

For humanity’s sake, she needs to declare her candidacy immediately. Run, Hillary, run! 😛

2. If and when her foreign-policy chickens come home to roost. the Clinton campaign will claim the above with a straight face.

Will the voters buy it? Well, Mark Sanford just got nominated.

Besides, the Democrats have plenty of people who would be even worse than Hillary.

A littler subversive killing of Iranian pilgrims to Mecca will have Iran turning their attentions eastwards.

We just don’t have operators with vision anymore.

It’s time to let the Israelis to take care of business with our responsibility being limited to tankers conveniently in place for their return trip.

We are a paper tiger indeed…
