Oppose Plan B, Support Plan C

Oppose Plan B, Support Plan C

I agree with this assessment by Erick Erickson:

Republicans in Congress intend to vote today on Plan B, John Boehner’s fall back plan on the fiscal cliff.

The President says he will veto it.

In other words, the Republicans are going to go on record that they will sell out their last remaining principle — no tax increases — and get nothing from the Democrats in return. Nothing.

There’ll be no Democrat deal on entitlements. There’ll be no Democrat deal on spending. There will only be the GOP’s sell out.

Click here to call your congressman. Tell him to oppose this Republican deal. [waj – and to support Plan C]

The GOP should not go on record willing to raise taxes if the Democrats will not offer meaningful reforms now on spending and entitlements.

Plan C — the Christmas Strategy — makes much more sense.

Preserve the status quo pending negotiations on spending reductions and entitlement reforms until after the artificial year-end deadline, which is Obama’s big pressure point, passes.

It will be harder for Harry Reid to table, or Obama to veto, something which preserves the status quo pending further negotiations, even if they know it ultimately weakens their hand.

And if they do nix it, they will not have the smokescreen of claiming Boehner and the Republicans walked away from negotiations.

Eric Erickson is a blow hard.

Boehner and his colleagues vote for a living. Erickson does nothing but generate colored pixels.

When given an opportunity to run for office, the coward dropped out.

Before you tell these people how to vote, put yourself in their shoes. Because Eric Erickson does not.

Boehner is an idiot. Erickson is not.

But just for the record, “voting for a living” doesn’t qualify you for anything. Quite the opposite I would think.

Okay, just to clear the air…

Are you suggesting that the fact that one chooses not to run for elected office nullifies their First Amendment civil liberty?

I called mine and got voicemail. Either his lines are burning up or he’s in hiding. I left a message.

I’m afraid you’re tilting at windmills. There will be no Plan C. The sell-out will come because the sell-out was always going to come. It is who these people are, it it what the system is.

Plan C is the way to force real spending cuts. It’s a Tea Party solution. That’s why it won’t happen.

Plan B was developed AFTER a group of presumably Republican friendly CEOs and business leaders (AKA, crony capitalists) visited Washington a couple of weeks ago. Coincidentally, almost immediately after the business leaders met with Obama and Congressional leaders, Boehner kicked Tea Partiers off important committees, Jennifer Rubin wrote a scathing vile hit piece on her WaPo blog denouncing Tea Partiers (and Jim DeMint, before he had announced his intent to resign), and a former researcher at the RNC wrote an Op-Ed in the New York Times comparing Tea Partiers to the “Birchers” of the 1950s and 1960s. All this happened in about a two or three day period with no obvious catalyst – except that the Republican crony capitalists visited Washington.

Draw your own conclusions.

I live in Ed Pastors district in Arizona so will never have a Republican representative in my lifetime. Tried to contact David Schweikert and Trent Franks both of whom asked for and got my support in the last election. Their web sites will not accept emails from outisde the district. Sent emails to the Arizona and National Repbulican sites that if they go with Plan B I am going with plan I, Independent from now on. Barry Goldwater is turning in his grave.

One thing about broken negotiations…

you can pull everything back off the table. The other side MAY think they have a new starting point, but you can disabuse them very quickly.

Shouldn’t we call it the Holiday Strategy so as not to offend anyone?

The world is going to end tomorrow anyway. Enjoy the snow today.

Yep, count me in for Plan C.

The lack of leadership everywhere in DC should repulse all of you…

I admit to revulsion, but only over the last forty years. It’s too bad that the self-serving unethical malfeasance of 530 or so nationally elected politicians ruins it for the rest of them.

There is no budget. There is a trillion dollar account deficit. The fiscal cliff will occur if Obama decides, once again, to hold funding hostage, especially contributory entitlements (e.g. Social Security, Medicare). Obama sets the “budget” according to his whims. The real danger is that running account deficits (10% of GDP, less productivity growth) serves to devalue both capital and labor. Even with our unusually prominent position in the world market, we are quickly approaching a Weimar end.
