Obama calls for “banning these high capacity clips” during David Gregory interview

David Gregory has a high capacity ammunition magazine problem, as you are aware.

So I was waiting for the issue of banning high capacity magazines to come up during the Meet the Press interview this morning, and it did (emphasis mine):

GREGORY: “Those are four huge things and you didn’t mention … new gun regulations. … Do you have the stomach for the political fight for new gun control laws?”

OBAMA: “David, I think anybody who was up in Newtown … understands that something fundamental in America has to change. And all of us have to do some soul searching, including me as president, that we allow a situation in which 20 precious small children are getting gunned down in a classroom. And I’ve been very clear that an assault rifle ban, banning these high capacity clips, background checks — that there are a set of issues that I have historically supported and will continue to support. …

Unfortunately, the camera was not on Gregory at the moment when “banning these high capacity clips” was mentioned:

Unsubstantiated rumor has it that this was Gregory’s reaction at that very moment:

Get it? It is a RIGHT!

This last week saw the 500th death by gunfire in Chicago this year.

Every individual was once a “…precious small child”.

This Collective…and this Collectivist puke in particular…does not give a rat’s asp about individuals.

They deliberately armed known killers in Mexico with the self-same weapons they now propose to try to take from people who will never use them offensively.

Screw them.

Not only were most of the deaths from illegal guns in the hands of criminals, but most of them were due to drug wars. Criminals with illegal guns involved in illegal drug trafficing. Why wasn’t this reported?

The government counts these drug deal deaths as “children” since they are under 21. This needs to be a part of the discussion.

Don’t their children attend exclusive Sidwell Friends? Aren’t there armed guards? Doesn’t the Secret Service have a detail there? Don’t Gregory’s children benefit from that protection? Why don’t Gregory and the families of the other students contribute to the cost of the Secret Service detail?
Why?

Did Gregory ask Obama if he supported Bill Clinton’s proposal to put armed guards in schools? You know, like the school that Obama’s and Gregory’s kids go to?

Didn’t think so.

1. A modest proposal:

Within the country’s borders, the only officials permitted armed federal escorts shall be the President, the Chief Justice, the Vice President, the Speaker of the House, and the Minority Leaders of the House and Senate.

2. An alternative:

Any level of the US government which utilizes armed escorts for its officials shall authorize its citizens to carry the weapons carried by those escorts. A lower level of government shall not prohibit weapons authorized by a higher level of government.

    Not 100% off topic:
I continue to be outraged that the ruling class exempted itself from Obamacare, and I believe every discussion of Obamacare should include the fact that congress exempted itself from the devastating law that is being imposed on the citizenry.

Maybe the Constitution needs a Non-Exemption Amendment.

I toss this out as brainstorming because I’m not convinced the issue has become serious enough to warrant amending the Constitution. Then again, I’m not convinced it hasn’t.

Repeal 17, while you’re at it. Imagine a Senate appointed by the States’ Assemblies, rather than elected at large.

Repeal 17 and you repeal gridlock.

μολὼν λαβέ

What you have just witnessed is a volley lobbed at the confiscation of firearms kept and borne in complete accordance with the plain words and meaning of the Second Amendment by law abiding citizens of the United States.

This must stop.

This must not be allowed to continue.

This man is a traitor to the very Constitution that he swore to uphold, indeed he is the very domestic enemy he swore to vanquish.

In a sane world, he would be impeached, convicted, indicted for treason, tried, convicted by a jury of his peers and punished.

In a sane world, Obama, the alleged son of a foreign national would be prohibited from running for President because the Constitution would be upheld by both Houses of Congress and the Supreme Court.

Obama is not qualified to be President, and his administration is illegal and fraudulent in more ways than one.

Note that there is no logical connection between what happened in Newtown and the measures that are claimed are a response to it.

This is not a fight that will be won with logic. The gun banners will never see the illogic (read: hypocrisy) of their positions and change. The news media will not suddenly and magically begin covering guns in a fair and honest way.

Talk about freedom. Talk about using guns for defense. A lot. Get to that huge number of low information voters who still don’t know that they voted for someone who despises them.

And stockpile ammo.

This is not a fight that will be won with logic.

    1. I prefer to say that logic is necessary but not sufficient.

    2. Also, the fight will not be won by calling Obama an evil Kenyan Mooslim jihadi Afrocentrist black supremacist Commie homosexual Manchurian Candidate traitor President.

Uncle Samuel in reply to gs. | December 30, 2012 at 12:53 pm

Obama’s alleged father was a Kenyan national, his adoptive father an Indonesian national and Obama went to college here as an Indonesian foreign student.

Obama is unqualified under the Constitution.

#2. IOW don’t bother with the truth.

Consider a hypothetical RINO who is wondering whether to go “independent” or to seek an accommodation with conservatives. Consider a hypothetical centrist Democrat or independent who has second thoughts about Obama and decides to check out what the other side has to say.

I submit that such people would consider Bill’s posts tough-minded but fair, rarely containing anything to repel open-minded waverers from conservatism. I don’t say the same about some of the comments at LI.

“banning these high capacity clips”
Wouldn’t these be a strong indication that IT was present?

Come on nbc, you and your lackey broke D.C. law once, whada’ got to lose, huh! Go for it!

MaggotAtBroadAndWall | December 30, 2012 at 12:22 pm

What made me perk up (luckily, it’s part of your excerpt) was when he said, “… that we allow a situation in which 20 precious small children are getting gunned down in a classroom.”

“we allow”? When were all the laws prohibitting murder repealed? I must have missed that.

BTW, I found an interesting statistic about violent crime on the FBI website. In 2011, 5.8% of all violent crime was committed by people using no weapon at all. They used only their bare hands. Maybe we should stop “allowing” those crimes by cutting off everybody’s hands at birth.

He’s expressing “magical thinking.” No can one really do anything about random insanity, but hey, just write a law addressing an issue down to the lowest level of minutiae. Presto! All problems are solved. This is also known as Useless Whack-a-Mole Legislation that makes “good people” feel good about themselves. Yay. They did something.

The real problem is morality, and what’s going on in the brain, but that escapes these people.

With regard to high-capacity magazines for semi-automatic rifles, I have not seen any bloggers talk about the M2 carbine.

One of the first rifles I ever shot (in 1959) was the .30 caliber M1 Carbine. Low recoil, semi-auto, short barrel–it was a great rifle for a 9 year old to try out. With a muzzle velocity of nearly 2,000 fps

According to Wikipedia, the M1 came with two magazines–a 15 round magazine and a 30 round magazine. Both would be considered high-capacity by Feinstein and Obama. 6.5 million M1’s were manufactured for WWII, Korean War, and early Vietnam War. There were literally tens of thousands of these carbines in private hands all through the ’50’s and ’60’s. This was the gun used by Patty Hearst in her famous bank robbery and photographed with Malcom X (with 2 30-round magazines).

Yet despite the ubiquity of this firearm there were never any school shootings using it. There was never an outcry about the prevalence of “military-style” weapons (despite the fact that these were often real military weapons if they were M1’s) in the hands of irresponsible civilians.

So something has changed since then but it wasn’t the ready availability of semi-automatic rifles with high capacity magazines.

    oops, I need an editor

“With a muzzle velocity of nearly 2,000 fps ”

    should read:

With a muzzle velocity of nearly 2,000 fps and nearly twice the muzzle energy of a .357, this is a relatively powerful carbine and one used in 3 wars.

David Yotham in reply to iconotastic. | December 30, 2012 at 1:02 pm

You noticed that too, eh? What do you think changed?

iconotastic in reply to David Yotham. | December 30, 2012 at 2:25 pm

Global Warming? The death of rock and roll? Acid Rain?

      I know, the Koch brothers.

Since the one invariant in these different shootings is that someone is crazy (which should include Islamists) and not involuntarily committed or medicated. Call me crazy but as a long time software engineer I tend to focus on the commonalities between events rather than the irrelevancies.

I stopped listening to Obama when he said

Obama: “If you look at how I’ve tried to govern over the last four years … I’m not driven by some ideological agenda.” #MTP

David Gregory: the Human Pucker. Obama: the supercilious creep who has ingested and made flesh every leftist shibboleth in circulation the last fifty years. National conversation? That means you will swallow our nostrums whole.

OBAMA: “…And all of us have to do some soul searching, including me as president, that we allow a situation in which 20 precious small children are getting gunned down in a classroom.”

Here we are, the American public, the recipients of hypocritical schmoozing by the President of the United States.

This is ALL politics & power, smoke & mirrors. Obama does not have a figs worth of compassion for those ‘precious small children’ who were gunned down in their classroom. How do I know this? Look at the 1,000,000+ abortions done in America EVERY YEAR – dead babies, dead children. What crime did they commit to end up being slaughtered wholesale for the sake of convenience?

Furthermore, what about the ‘Fast & Furious’ gun-running operation where the Obama administration facilitated guns into Mexico? Are Mexican children of lesser value than American children? Do their mothers weep less than American mothers?

Obama, you sir are an abomination to the human race.

    facepalm

Afaic the controversy about abortion and the controversy about self-defense rights are two separate matters and it is blindingly prudent to keep them separate. To those who would link them, I say:

    Akin for President 2016!

    Good luck.

      @ gs | December 30, 2012 at 2:58 pm

I love your presumption, it reminds me of that old saying: “Frequently wrong, but never in doubt!”

The entire tie-in with gun control and abortion is the concept of LIFE! You know what I mean – a beating heart, ability to emote, etcetera. Compartmentalize the two issues of gun control and abortion: WHY? The lunatic who slaughtered those 20 children was a thief of their lives, via violence. The Government sanctioned lunatic who slaughters unborn babies is a thief as well – who is it that can see around the corners of the future? You, the child’s mother, the lunatic with a gun? For each child slaughtered entire generations of men are being erased – erased forever! Futures evaporated into nothing via violence done to the innocent, whether a bullet or a forceps.

I maintain that life is important and something to be guarded and protected from the evil that stalks quietly in our society. Government sanctioned murders against innocent people are just as grievous as murders committed by lunatics – perhaps more so.

The issue about guns is “Do Americans have a God Given Right to protect themselves, as recognized by the founding fathers.” If we were a society that still used flintlocks, swords or daggers, then the issue would still be the same – are we allowed to protect ourselves with the technology available? The Government (and liberals) say NO, the technology goes to the criminals and the government – the people hunters (criminal aggressors) and the people protectors (reactors to violence) – the sheep need to just shut up in their sheepfold! Slaves, peasants and property shut up – men stand up.

“Afaic the controversy about abortion and the controversy about self-defense rights are two separate matters and it is blindingly prudent to keep them separate.”

Feel free to do so yourself. Abortion is not an animating issue for me, but I’m disgusted at being lectured about “precious children” by a so-called “man” who voted to allow infants born alive during an abortion to be left to die of exposure and neglect.

I will use his lust for killing children to fight his effort to render me defenseless; you may surrender the point if you wish.

Shouldn’t the personal information of people who do not have permits and who furthermore flaunt gun laws publicly be published on an interactive map?

9thDistrictNeighbor | December 30, 2012 at 1:09 pm

I’m going to go all Clinton and parse his choice of the adjective “these.” I am curious the extent to which implementing the abolish-the-guns campaign has been coordinated with the WH; and whether the daily action memo included the we-got-your-back provision on the alleged procurement, transport, and possession of the alleged high-capacity clip.

I’m surprised they didn’t offer to paint each other’s nails in this “interview”.

Never in my life have I seen such a sorry excuse for the American press, and I remember during the clinton impeachment stuff, I was on Clinton’s side and against the repubs on that whole spectacle, even then the MSM wasn’t this bad.

Pat Cadell is 100% correct, the American liberal establishment press is an enemy of the American people.

My question from the audience: Mr. President, had one person in that school carried a weapon, they could have directly stopped the deaths of those 20 children. Will you take ANY personal responsibility for leaving our children so vulnerable, while THE RICH have schools with armed guards?

Of course anyone asking THAT question in front of His Highness would be indefinitely detained for interminable questioning.

I went to a Gander outlet store yesterday. It was so busy in the firearms department I had to take a number. And, there were a half dozen salespeople waiting on customers! The nation is sticking to its guns about guns.

I see that David Gregory is hiding behind pretensouflage.

Wake up, America. We’re being manipulated by masters.

Sandy Hook was staged.
Like other massacres before it.
Timed perfectly to implement an agenda to compromise the constitution –
and head for civil war. (Why has DHS stockpiled billions of rounds of ammo?)

There will be a compromise. The gun control issue is being used to manufacture leverage which will be exploited during negotiations.

They only have a selective concern for the rights of citizens, from conception (or “creation”, per our national charter) to grave. They do not care about gun control because they wield superior force of arms and maintain a superior position. The gun control issue is a prop which serves as an emotional appeal and as a club to quiet dissenters.

Sure wish ace reporter David Gregory would stop playing footsie with Bathhouse Barry and discuss the GREEN CAR – and maybe he might provide some credible documentation about all the guns Nancy Lanza supposedly owned, too.

This stinks.

[…] Update: The irony of Obama calling for banning high capacity clips while talking to David Gregory wasn’t lost on Prof. Jacobson. […]

One has to wonder how a person involved in an active federal criminal investigation is allowed anywhere near the POTUS.
