Thank you Elizabeth Warren (for possibly costing Obama the election)
Obama has stepped in it big time, and we have Elizabeth Warren to thank.
Obama gave voice to his political creed in the form of parroting Warren’s famous rant about factory owners:
Here’s Obama’s rendition (and a Romney response):
Let’s cut to the very quotable few seconds which should and likely will be on every television in every swing state a thousand times between now and the election:
This collectivist view of our economic system is alien to the vast majority of Americans. It is beyond class warfare, which is the envy of others who are more successful. Obama has attacked success, not just the successful.
The anti-success dog will not hunt outside of Massachusetts (and maybe not even there) and a few other states.
And now Elizabeth Warren’s collectivist dog is Obama’s dog.
Warren is backing up Obama on the theme:
Warren said during a campaign stop in Dorchester yesterday, “I think the basic notion is right. Nobody got rich on their own. Nobody. People worked hard, they build a business, God bless, but they moved their goods on roads the rest of us helped build, they hired employees the rest of us helped educate, they plugged into a power grid the rest of us helped build,” she said.
Obama has hitched his wagon to an alien ideology touted by a tainted candidate who might be too liberal even for Massachusetts.
I don’t think this is going away. It is a theme handed to Romney on a silver platter, a silver platter built, of course, on roads the rest of us paid for.
It is a game changer. And we have Elizabeth Warren to thank for it.
Update: Paul Mirengoff quotes Pat Sajak as follows:
It’s as if President Obama climbed into a tank, put on his helmet, talked about how his foray into Cambodia was seared in his memory, looked at his watch, misspelled “potato” and pardoned Richard Nixon all in the same day.
And via Althouse, Obama is running an ad denying he said what he said and accusing Romney of misquoting him. But of course, Obama did say what he said. This is a sign that the Obama campaign knows how toxic Obama’s embrace of Warren’s argument has become.

Be still, my heart.
Princess Running Bare didn’t get the memo from the Collectivist echo-chamber about “taking the President out of context”.
Of course, THAT was a big, fat lie anyhow, soooo…
Now his stuff is set in stone.
A millstone. Around his neck. Oppppssssie…
“A millstone. Around his neck. Oppppssssie…”
You got that!
All We the People have to do is… well… push…
+100 for the fake Indian name for Warren. I always love seeing what people come up with for that fraudulent harpy!
If I were working in the Romney campaign, I’d send to the White House (and Elizabeth Warren, also) the biggest bouquet of flowers I could find, plus the biggest baskets of fruit money can buy, all bundled with a nice, little “THANK YOU!” card for making it all the easier for Mitt…
I think a nice series of video greetings…broadcast all across the land…would be even better than flowers!
It would last longer, too.
As Ed Dricoll quips…
Or perhaps a copy of Pow Wow Chow.
Heh!
Great stuff. Gotta keep pushing on it! Shows what happens when the Prez doesn’t have teleprompter. Can only imagine the scrambling Obamaclones doing to obsfucate. Hope Romney and surrogates don’t let up; this can be the gift that keeps on giving. Keep up the good work Professor!
Beyond the obvious jab at business people everywhere, Obama at the same time jabbed and attempted to diminish the concept of the individual. Thats something all of us react to in a negative way.
Instead Obama and Warren drag in their twisted “original sin” concept of businesses in general.
How quickly Obama and Warren types forget…the very buildings they occupy were paid for by taxpayers everywhere that earned wages from you guessed it…business of one sort or another.
Im glad the issue has become a source of jabs at the President from photoshopped stuff to renamed children’s books like Mike Mulligan and The Government Supplied Steamshovel.
Quite ironic isn’t it, taxing the snot out of businesses to attain the very type of socialist government Obama and Warren desire has given similarly structured countries around the world those quaint cobblestone roads…
The type of spending, entitlements and taxation they demand will be extracted from the built world while they demonize the businesses and entrepreneurial spirit that has provided its funding.
This view has a spooky protection’s racket aspect to it. (In the best Corleone voice I can muster in my head) I collect money from you for services (protection). I provide that service to you. Someday in the future I may ask more of you and I expect you will happily oblige me.
In other words, YOU OWE ME. Never mind the fact that you most likely have been making a contribution (tax) to the effort as did you father as will your children……… The idea of the common is not one of obligation. It is one of open sharing and willing participation for most people.
I get that as well. Also it has a Roman Emporer ring to it..as if all good flows from Rome. The whole notion reeks of Monarchy
Yes, but to me that attitude seems to have existed for a long time within the elected class (over a century – since Teddy R??). What is new is the whole idea that because I take money from you to provide a service back to you, you owe me even more. What could be more obscene? They aren’t even using the trite “fair share” phrase in this case. You know, they could argue that “rich people” (or just successful people?) are getting more than their fair share from how much is put into the roads and education, etc. But their message seems even more simplistic – because you get something you owe something more…..
Solyndra.
They didn’t build that.
Somebody else made that happen.
And I know who.
LukeHandCool (who would like to sing “The Blame Game,” which starts off, “Blame, blame, No shame, bonana fanna fo fame …” but he can’t sing that on his own. Somebody else sang that tune … Bush, Bush, Blame Bush, bonana …)
The mask has finally come off, for all the world to see.
Businesses facing higher taxes because of bankrupted State Unemployment Insurance Funds.

“He didn’t invent iron ore and blast furnaces, did he?”
“Who?”
“Rearden. He didn’t invent smelting and chemistry and air compression. He couldn’t have invented his Metal but for thousands and thousands of other people. His Metal! Why does he think it’s his? Why does he think it’s his invention? Everybody uses the work of everybody else. Nobody ever invents anything.”
She said, puzzled, “But the iron ore and all those other things were there all the time. Why didn’t anybody else make that Metal, but Mr. Rearden did?”
- From Ayn Rand’s epic novel Atlas Shrugged, P1-C9
Look at the Obama campaign’s new ad saying that Romney lied and Obama never said those remarks. Really.
But the ad carefully edits Obama’s remarks and yet they do include him saying them. I guess you have to be an Obamabot to be so deceived.

Was this the new “no teleprompter” Obama on display…?
Credit the righteously angered Cherokee people and their shamans’ seldom-used Teleprompter Curse.
Y’all done went an’ pissed off the Indians…
Hey you right-wing wackoes. How do you know Obama/Warren’s message isn’t catching on with people who aren’t conservative nutjobs like yourselves??
BREAKING NEWS:
Popular music band Starship changes song title and lyrics to hit song, “We Built This City”
TO
“We didn’t build this city. Somebody else made it happen.”
O is very talented at looking presidential and reading off the teleprompter. But once O is off script, particularly in front of a fawning crowd, O reverts to his true nature: a hard left radical who has been steeped in Marxist/socialist ideology. And in front of that crowd he got to do something he almost never does: speak honestly and it was exhilarating!
Will we see this again in the campaign? If O’s handlers have their way, no. The Obama campaign is already trying to walk it back saying we didn’t hear what we heard.
But if O starts to think he will lose in November, I expect to see a lot more of this type of rhetoric. Remember O is a true believer. He is convinced that if only he could tell the right story, the public would buy it.

Obama goes off teleprompter and becomes a babbling clown!
Excellent use of the word “alien,” as in “alien sedition acts,” and which accurately fits Romney’s use of “foreign” and the legitimate argument that Obama needs to be defeated because, inter alia, he does not know what it means to be an American.
1/32 Cherokee?
More like 1/32 free market capitalist.
I don’t understand what’s the big deal about “somebody else” building the road or being a teacher (or whatever). They had a job, they were paid money, I assume, fair and square. Why am I supposed to feel bad about them or hate people who use the infrastructure to their advantage?
The thing that Obama and Warren fail to understand is that the “somebody else” who paid for those roads, schools, power plants, etc., are those very same business owners they love to demonize. It is the owners of successful businesses, and the employees that those businesses hire, who pay the taxes that the government uses to build roads, schools and power plants. So why should those business owners be penalized for using the community assets that their money helped to make possible in the first place?
The money used to build those assets did not come from Obama’s private “stash” or from some magic government money beans, nor does it come from welfare queens waiting for their next government check, or from cowboy poets lying around their campfires waiting for the next taxpayer-funded cowboy poetry festival to come to town.
The abundance we enjoy in the U.S. was not made possible because of big government, it was made possible because of smart, hard-working, self-reliant entrepreneurs who had the freedom to take risks and create things of value that created wealth for themselves and many others. We should be thanking those business owners, not demonizing them and trying to tax them out of existence.
Great ad by Romney…blowtorching Obama in the most delicious way possible – using his own words. The wave is beginning early.

19 JUL 12 – In his show today, Rush Limbaugh gave the coup-de-grs to OBOZO’s absurd leftist fantasy that businesses and entrepreneurs succeed ONLY because GOVERNMENT built them roads and bridges. Rush noted: “Russia and Cuba have roads, so where’s their business and entrepreneurial success?” (Answer for the clueless leftist extremists: THEY don’t have the personal freedoms, the capitalist / free enterprise foundation and limitations on oppressive and destructive government meddling in business that America has had (up until the OBOZO presidency, that is.)
Aaahhh.in my haste to post I see the good professor has already put the ad up…which I think is one of the best political ads I’ve ever seen.
Mr. Jacobson,
With thanks aplenty and linky love, here is a brief fisking of Warren’s talking points using links to this site and others.
Cheers!
This is your friendly, neighborhood Liberal reminding you that neither Elizabeth Warren nor Barack Obama act like Liberals. Sometimes they talk like a liberal but they act like Marxists intent on a power grab.
Liberals don’t believe in lying — not about the source of your funds, who you are, or the facts you think are pertinent. All of those lies fit very well into Marxist philosophy and in the history of Marxist dictatorships established through deceitful takeover of other forms of government.
The biggest lie of all is that individuals are incapable of vigorous, fruitful action.
I am one of those people who has benefited from the generosity of the American people. When I was desperate, they lent me money, and I used it to get my law degree. I have praised their kindness ever since, and repaid the value of that loan many times over, in the form of increased taxes.
But it was me, and nobody else, that got up at 4 am to study. Unlike most of the men, I chose to work my way through school, and I also took care of my infant son in the bargain. I am the one that earned that position on the Board of Advocates, and on the Law Journal, and the cum laude standing in my class. I did all that because I wanted my son to have the things my husband was too lazy and irresponsible to give him.
It was hard times, and hard work, and one hell of a lot of fun. And nobody did it for me. I am truly grateful to my parents who raised me, and who paid for my little son’s Montessori school. I am grateful for the person who put up the scholarship for my undergraduate degree. But they did not do it for me.
They gave me resources so I could do something, and I put the resources to good use. That is how I honor the gifts that have been given to me.
I am offended by Barack Obama’s denigration of the bargain people of good will struck with me, and which I was proud and joyful to fulfill. It speaks very poorly of him and his character. Perhaps he spoke so because he never earned any of the honors heaped upon him by people who were never interested in him personally, in the first place.
By the way, who paid the majority of the money to build the roads, bridges, military, and infrastructure that they use along with the poor? Yep, the wealthy. And the great thing is that the poor can use these gifts from the wealthy to lift themselves up and become wealthy too. It’s the rich who have been supporting the poor all these years. It’s part of our collective sharing of the fruits of the success of the few. And these are the people the Dems want to punish.
Being machine politicians, both Obama and Lizzie Warren cannot think outside of the collective box. They’ve both made it to the top of their respective machines – but not without a little help from their machine supporters. Obama was part of the Chicago machine, whose attitude toward hopeful climbers was ‘Who sent you? We don’t want nobody that nobody sent’.
And neither can conceive of an entrepreneurial invidual who did not rise through such a political preparation of the battlespace such as knocking your opponents off the ballot before the election, or checking the proper signifying box on a Harvard application to show you’re one of them elect Native Americans.
Both Obama and Warren fully expect, after attaining their lofty offices, to make the ritual payoffs to them who sent them. Obama already has, to the tune of trillions of dollars, and Warren (should she gain the Senate) for as much as she can chisel out of the taxpayers.
Neither can conceive of taking the responsibility for organizing, and training, and paying a reliable workforce for making an attractive product or service, simply for the voluntary purchase by a customer they hope to satisfy. There aint nothing voluntary in the relationships and payoffs of a political machine, and it’s a travesty by our MSM that they do not recognize the corruption endemic in machine politics – when committed by Democrats.
Nothing has lit and fanned the flames of Liberty more in the last four god awful years, not even the unconstitutional ruling upholding the mandate… than the marxist diarrhea that recently exploded from the mouth of this punk.
Have to hand it to you on this, Elizabeth. Good Job!
Lizzie Warren says that the evil businessman needs to, “pay it forward.” She and Prez-O-Bama don’t understand that business owners DO pay it forward, and then some. But that’s because neither have ever made a payroll, sweated through a business downturn, sacrificed or made do with less to see any any tangible, concrete accomplishment through to the end.
Both are traitors to the society that created, fed and educated them.
If Prez-O-Bama was playing a contemporary online game, he would see on his home screen: You have now unlocked the following accomplishment: Channel The Bat-Sh!t Crazy Pretend 1/32 Cherokee!
Regarding Obama cutting back on the use of a teleprompter, this from Ace of Spades:
http://ace.mu.nu/archives/331141.php
For such a supposedly fantastic speaker, it’s sure hard to bring to mind any outstanding Obama quotes. I remember nothing from his big post-racial race speech, his inaugural, his state of the union addresses. What I remember is when he goes off teleprompter.
“Why can’t I just eat my waffle?”
“I’ve now been in 57 states — I think one left to go.”
“The private sector is doing fine.”
“At a certain point, you’ve made enough money.”
“The Cambridge police acted stupidly.”
“I bowled a 129. It’s like — it was like Special Olympics, or something.”
“They get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them.”
“We’re the country that built the Intercontinental Railroad.”
“I think when you spread the wealth around, it’s good for everybody.”
“You didn’t build that.”
Soaring rhetoric or roaring septic.
You decide.
“….and your cousin Pookie wants a piece of the pie!”
“…is a corpse-man in the United States Navy…”
“…just air up your tires…”
What a great game this is!

Hey Liz
Ted Bundy didn’t kill women!
You see without the roads he couldn’t have driven his little Beetle, kidnapping and murdering women along the way.
Thank the government for serial killers. And Obama!
How is this any different than his response to Joe the Plumber? That was supposed to be a ‘game-changer’ too. Both incidents were off teleprompter and were obviously a glimpse into BO’s unfiltered ideology. The Joe the Plumber incident didn’t really affect his election chances and a heck of a lot of hay was made out of that exchange. BO’s just fanning the flames of class warfare – creating envy and resentment because these rich people aren’t paying for all the stuff they use to get rich. Shoring up the base and playing the Savior again…
Dear Prof: Somehow the LI RSS mess got fixed but now Althouse has got that same RSS FU problem. The only way that it makes sense for both LI and AA to have the same kind of RSS mess is that the Mega Left Wing Conspiracy was attacking each of your blogs as you each wage that great struggle against the Obama Hive.
BTW: That RSS mess only, apparently, effects those of us trying to setup an RSS reader anew; perhaps not those whose usage was uninterrupted.
Infrastructure is a constant. Everybody has access to it. If infrastructure were that important in building a business, everybody would be starting a business.
Only entrepreneurs put their money, their time, their security at risk. They’re the ones who work the long hours, often with the government getting in the way.
Obama sounds like a socialist.
The following article at Breitbart wouldn’t count for much if Obama had changed his thinking, but he’s kept the same type of friends — even going to Bill Ayers 4th of July party a few years ago.

So much of what we are as individuals comes from the contributions of those before us — you’re saying this notion is somehow frightening or inaccurate? It’s not class warfare to point out that we all, whether rich or poor, are in some ways beholden to the work of others.
Don’t get cocky. I’m sure his team had a plan for this.
My money is on he wanted to use this as this election’s birther thing. He totally played rope a dope with that making false statements about what he had released and then waiting forever to actually have it released…
This time he is going to cherry pick every example of a conservative going too far with this and hold it up as what we are all about. Plus; if anyone does any take downs that have underclass minorities involved as saying they were part of building other people’s stuff you can imagine how that will be used… which is why I expect some lefties to make it / make it up… for us. We will be back to the arguments saying we are racists for implying some groups are unamerican… whether we made that argument or not. On the plus side; the general public is tired of the left making those arguments…
Barak Obama just ate Elizabeth Warren’s collectivist dog, and he said it was crazy delicious!
I have a pretty good unscientific rule of thumb of determining whether a story like this has legs or not.
My older sister is a born conservative, but she’s too busy to keep up with the news like us junkies. She scans the headlines very quickly and only looks into stories she thinks are meaningful, ignoring the flotsam and jetsam.
She stopped by on her way to work this morning to drop off something for me.
I didn’t think she’d know about this story, but she sure did … and girl oh girl oh girly gurl did it have her revved up and chomping at the bit to vote Obama out in November.
She had a very successful store she started with almost nothing and ran for over 30 years. I can’t tell you how pissed off she was at his statement.
My father was a small business owner. He had the Puerto Rican equivalent of a convenience store, not far from my house. He passed away about twenty-five years ago, never enjoying the fruits of his labors.
If he were alive today, he’d be furious at this, and calling The One certain choice names in Spanish that I don’t dare say in polite company.
Yep, duchessofkitty.
You got that right.
People who want to be their own boss … break their ass and take on a lot of risk and stress to do it.
It’s a slap in the face.
I think we all rightfully fear for the economy if Obama gets elected again. But people need to realize the danger of Elizabeth Warren as the Democrats’ star player in the fight to keep the Senate. She takes Obama’s liberalism and puts it on steroids- the fact that she was the one to originate the “you didn’t build it” rhetoric should set off alarm bells. Whatever contempt Obama has for businesses, Warren magnifies it. No wonder she claimed credit for Occupy Wall Street.
Taxing the rich, wasn’t clear enough for most. Spreading the wealth around should have been. Marx or Lenin couldn’t have put it better. All his so called crony capitalism (rewarding your friends) along with his punishing your enemies (see states where Obama has no chance of winning) the DOJ has gone after)… it’s nothing but Socialism at best, but I submit it’s that good old Communism (see USSR)where the elites/Party members took care of each other.
The problem. Obama should be buried in the polls, based upon his record, if not his revealing words. But the Dims have been working for decades as the GOP either sat on their hands or aided and abetted. We’re at a tipping point. The Dims have created a nation of takers. 50% pay no federal income tax. 70% receive some transfer payments from the Feds. Where’s the incentive, if you’re not taxed, to demand less from gubmint?
These Marxists/Fascists promote their totalitarianism under the banner of “equal
opportunityoutcome” for all. To justify equal outcomes, they have to preach that all equally deserve those equal outcomes. So they preach this collectivist BS.Of course Obama might have reason to believe that one can achieve high office without being anything special, and without really working very hard, or being very smart.
Funny post:
Top 10 things to tell President Obama to get him to read Adam Smith’s “The Wealth of Nations”
http://nooilforpacifists.blogspot.com/2012/07/top-10-things-to-tell-president-obama.html
1. Oldie but goodie:
Definition. A gaffe happens when a politician tells the truth.
2. The Democrats are already trying to airbrush the statement out of the record. Not only are they spinning furiously, but Obama has a new shtick.
3. Warren is backing up Obama on the theme
Warren designed an agency for herself that has sweeping powers and virtually no accountability. Obama did not nominate her to head it. Drawing more attention to his gaffe is the last thing that Obama wants—and Warren may very well know that. If ever I saw a spiteful face that never forgets a grudge…
4. Occasionally Instapundit reminds us that he is (iirc) a preacher’s son:
“People worked hard, they build a business, God bless, but they moved their goods on roads the rest of us helped build,…”
The rest of us? Does Warren have any idea how much those big rigs pay for a license? Business that move their goods on the roads aren’t exactly free riders. They pay more than most of “the rest of us.”
Even if you completely grant Obama’s false premise, what he’s saying makes no logical sense. Even if I did learn some skill from someone else….and even if I drive on taxpayer-built roads….and even if I went to government-run schools….and I borrowed money to go to law school….
Even if I did all those things….In Obama’s world somehow that means I…what? I “owe” the government even more now because I had a good professor?
That I “owe” the government more money for roads that my taxes already paid for and built?
That I “owe” the government more because I already paid back my loans with 7% interest?
It’s totally nonsensical. It’s pandering to the most base and ignorant instincts of the innumerate and illiterate wastrels who matriculate from our government-controlled propaganda mills…oops, I mean our public schools.
Hey, let’s not forget that according to Paul Krugman, Obama is a moderate.
http://krugman.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/02/05/obama-the-moderate/
OBAMA THE MODERATE
“…So, Obama is the least liberal Democratic president since World War II, and presumably the least liberal since Woodrow Wilson.
I’m not bashing Obama, by the way; I wish he took stronger stands, but I think he’s moving in that direction; also, even if his health reform was devised by Heritage and implemented by Mitt Romney, it’s a lot better than nothing.
The point, instead, is that this very moderate Democrat is portrayed by the right, not to mentioned the aforementioned Romney, as a radical redistributionist — when the real radicals are on the other side. And now we have numbers.”
“[a]ccording to Krugman, Obama is a moderate.”
Yep. And I’m Machiavelli…
