Obligatory Cain Affair Allegations

Obligatory Cain Affair Allegations

Although many in the media are using terms like “sexual harassment,” the woman appearing on Atlanta TV tonight alleges a consensual 13-year extra-marital affair.  Initial details here.

Update: More details here.

And, here’s the video.  The only proof she pointed to was relatively recent cell phone records.  That would prove they knew each other.  If she flew around the country and stayed with him in various hotels over a long period of time, presumably there would be records and witnesses.  We’ll see how that develops:

As noted in the comments and in the video, there also have been reports that the woman has a background of prior lawsuits and financial problems, but that doesn’t mean what she said is not true.

Unlike the Politico vague allegations, we have an accuser, and relatively specific and provable or disprovable allegations. I’d like to see some more specifics, such as what hotels she traveled to, when, who else saw them, etc.

I don’t even care any more. It’s only sex.

guys at hot air are just orgasmic over this.
the timing of these really bug me, yes I am a cain fan but these timings would bug me no matter who I supported.
and this time he tried to get ahead of it and was skewered for that too, many blogs have done a great job of carrying someones water for them.
he said right up front there was no affair but he knew the woman, and conservative blogs leaving out the deny part in the titles.
odd…..and unlike here the word allegation isn’t used.

I really must agree. The rush (leap) to judgement is stark and telling. I’m also noting far too many ‘Clinton’ references, or associations for it to be mere chance. The whole thing smacks of orchestration.

We shall have to see how this turns out. Cain is one of the four GOP candidates I am most interested in. It is too early to know just what happened but I will be watching with story with great interest. Not leaping to a conclusion since the whole story is not out in the open…

Is the the liberal media’s coup de grâce to ensure Cain’s dismissal from the presidential race?

This whole country’s information is beginning to stink.

And yes, I’m a Cain supporter…

Far from “obligatory,” I believe that Cain’s candidacy is dead. The Washington Examiner carries this letter from Cain’s lawyer:

“Mr. Cain has been informed today that your television station plans to broadcast a story this evening in which a female will make an accusation that she engaged in a 13-year long physical relationship with Mr. Cain. This is not an accusation of harassment in the workplace – this is not an accusation of an assault – which are subject matters of legitimate inquiry to a political candidate.

Rather, this appears to be an accusation of private, alleged consensual conduct between adults – a subject matter which is not a proper subject of inquiry by the media or the public. No individual, whether a private citizen, a candidate for public office or a public official, should be questioned about his or her private sexual life. The public’s right to know and the media’s right to report has boundaries and most certainly those boundaries end outside of one’s bedroom door.”

This is the GOP we are talking about here, not the Clinton Administration!

The (alleged) sexual “misconduct” are enough to cast a serious doubt over the conservative values of Mr. Herman Cain. His latest coffin nail surely cannot help things.

Keep in mind that truth has nothing to do with politics. The mere mention of any impropriety is where the damage occurs. Look for only the die-hard Cain supporters to remain loyal.

If Cain is on the ballot in the primary I’m still voting for him.

Cain seems to come out of the John Edwards school of politics: I’m so good, I can overcome my bimbo past. Better to have found out about it now than with him as the GOP nominee in the fall of 2012.

To those who say “It’s only sex”, if the allegations are true, then I don’t want a President who cheated on the person supposedly most important to them in life. Neither Newt nor, if these allegations are true, Cain will get my vote. I will not vote for any other GOP candidate who cheats on their spouse. I have a strict moral code and I will not make excuses for “my guy” like the Democrats do.
If you can break a vow to the person who mattered most to you in life, how easy would it be to shaft the people who voted for you, who you don’t even know or care about.
I have a bright white line with infidelity, no-one forces people to get married, they choose marriage freely. It is indicative of the trustworthiness of their character if they choose to ignore the vows they made.
For now, I will wait until the evidence is presented in its entirety.

I have to agree. It really chaps me to see the number of candidates of both parties who behave like this and think they are too smart and wonderful to ever be found out.

Cain even told us, categorically and explicitly, that he had no skeletons in his closet. If he was lying, that’s it, I’m done with him.

Uhhhh remember the Duke University LaCrosse players?

Just saying’.

cain is a disgrace.

Let’s wait until we get more information before jumping to conclusions.

However, if this story is substantially true, I don’t see how I could explain my continued support of Herman Cain to my wife and children…

This just in. The Duke Lacrosse accuser, the Kobe Bryant accuser, the blonde french canadian woman from the Bruce willis 9 yards movie, the brunnette girl from last week’s Jerry Springer, and the chunky girl who will be on an upcoming episode of “cheaters” are also claiming sexual impropriety with Herman Cain.

Oddly all have filed for bankruptcy, have really sketchy backgrounds, multiple lawsuits in both directions, are generally bat shit crazy, and crave media attention.

Oh – this just breaking. A homeless woman in downtown Olympia said she had sex with Cain at a rest area bathroom.

Of course I made all this up, but since the media isn’t really checking facts or background, I thought I’d get some hype in there too.

Come on—- I’m waiting for Brietbart to do a sting on one of these.

From a story on CNN.com. Not drawing a conclusion here but I do see a pattern in the lives of those who are accusing Mr. Cain.

WAGA said White filed a sexual harassment claim against an employer in 2001 that was settled, and filed for bankruptcy 23 years ago in Kentucky. It said the single mother of two has been evicted from several apartments in DeKalb County, Georgia, over the past six years, most recently this month.

White said her financial problem means little. “It makes me out to be one of the millions of people right now that are trying to keep a roof over their head,” she said.

The station also cited a lawsuit by a former business partner of White’s who accused White of stalking her with repeated e-mails and texts in a case that was ultimately dismissed.

That was followed by a libel suit lost by White because she failed to respond to it, WAGA said.

White’s attorney, Edward Buckley, told WAGA that his client did not respond to the suit because she thought it had been settled through negotiations.

He told CNN that she appears to have no financial motive for making the accusation. “I candidly think it’s not in her financial interest to do this. I’m concerned about whether or not she’ll be able to keep her job,” he said.

Asked in WAGA’s interview why anyone should believe her now, White said, “It would make no sense for me to come out with these allegations against Herman if it absolutely wasn’t true.”

White described herself as a reluctant accuser. “I did not want to do this, but it was something that I felt, at the end of the day, was the right thing to do. Is it going to hurt a lot of people? Yes. I’m sure I will be one of them.”

    From CNN

[White’s attorney] told CNN that she appears to have no financial motive for making the accusation.

It said the single mother of two has been evicted from several apartments in DeKalb County, Georgia, over the past six years, most recently this month.

Does anybody else have issues trying to reconcile those two statements? I know it is a CNN story, but even they pay attention to cause-and-effect at times….

I’m not a big Cain supporter, but I will give him the same benefit of doubt that the MSM gives all the Democrat candidates until actual evidence emerges.

So will Team Cain blame this one on the Perry campaign too?

At this moment we don’t know who the 3rd party pressuring the woman was. Do you know something about this?

WAGA Reporter Dale Russell said on WAGA that his and other news organizations had received a tip from someone who knew White alleging she had had an affair with Cain, which forced White’s hand.

From my previous link to CNN.com.

Coincidentally, shortly before the first news about the allegation of a Cain affair, I had just read this neat summary of why this is a problem from Rep. Paul Ryan (who was addressing something else which does not alter its relevance:

Said Ryan,”If you ask me what the biggest problem in America is, I’m not going to tell you debt, deficits, statistics, economics — I’ll tell you it’s moral relativism. Now is it my job to fix that as a congressman? No, but I can do damage to it. But it’s the job of parents to raise their kids … But let’s not ignore it. These things go beyond statistics, they go into the culture.”

Then I come here and see people who style themselves as conservatives say it’s just sex, it won’t change their support for Cain, etc.

At the heart of ALL of the problems we face as a nation — the threat of national decline, the widespread and growing rejection of the virtues of hard work and self-reliance, the surrender of individual sovereignty in exchange for collective benefits along with the taxation, deficits and debt those benefits require, the collapse of marriage and the concomitant saturation of the culture with freewheeling sex, rampant abortion and social alienation of children without stable families, the poverty, crime and drug abuse that is endemic to whole communities– at the heart of all of these problems is the now nearly universal acceptance of moral relativism.

If conservatives of the current generation are to accomplish anything, they first must push back against this plague of relativism.

A good place to start is by demanding of leaders that they lead moral lives. If a man cannot keep the solemn promise he made to his wife “in the sight of God,” his moral character must be regarded as suspect and his quest for leadership rejected.

Sometimes, this will strike some people as being in some sense “unfair.” But to concede that is to give away the game. The essence of relativism is that there are no moral absolutes on which to “judge” people. All that matters is what “feels right” or fair or reasonable or fulfilling or expressive or satisfying for each person. Once you concede that, you are on the slippery slope to modern liberals distain for common values.

It is terribly curious how the MSM wasn’t the least bit interested in Clinton’s and Edwards’ dalliances even when Edwards pregnant mistress was sitting on the campaign airplane with some of the alleged journalists who couldn’t find any evidence of adultery. And the MSM actively covered for JFK and LBJ. And let’s not forget Jesse Jackson who brought his pregnant mistress to the White House while he counseled Clinton on adultery!

Yet the MSM accused George H W Bush, George W. Bush and McCain of affairs when there was virtually no evidence to support such claims.

I think adultery is wrong. And if Cain engaged in such behavior, and then lied about it to cover it up, it would almost certainly end my support for him. But I want to get the facts before I make up my mind.

But I find the behavior of the MSM peculiar to say the least when it selectively makes accusations against conservatives based on little to no evidence while actively denies such stories about “progressives” based on massive evidence.

    What are you talking about?

The media has gone after plenty of dems. Bill Clinton’s affairs were all over the place. The Gennifer Flowers story was all over the place. Gary Hart ring a bell? Eliot Spitzer? Anthony Weiner? Jim McGreevey?

No one ever accused W of having an affair to my knowledge. McCain had that one NYT story which was totally bogus.

And this isn’t the media accusing Cain. This is the woman herself coming forward and saying what happened. Going public, using her name, talking on camera. Giving detailed information. Providing phone and text records going back years. Providing autographed books to “Miss G” with flirty comments in them. The media didn’t push this. The NYT or CNN or whoever wasn’t out there with this.

She listed specific locations and places. There are hotel privacy records and all but if they were at places in Buckhead and elsewhere I’m sure people saw them.

I don’t know about you but I don’t think most married guys are exchanging phone calls/texts with other women at odd hours.

And of course people ar epointing to her past. Who cares? It’s irrelevant. Lets say we have a video of them together in flagrante as it were. Would her past matter? Of course not. The issue is whether what she says happened did. Her past has no bearing on that.

I remember when Clinton and the dems slimed all the women who came out against him.

When someone is accused of an affair, and both he and his attorney don’t flatly deny it, red lights start going off in my mind. When us lawyers start creating wiggle room, its usually for a reason. Just sayin’.

Right now Obama is f’ng us all. Just a few women getting f’d by Cain would be a huge improvement.

Larry Sinclair? …and Obama? Where was the media?

Either I stepped in a steaming present my dog left on the lawn or it’s the accusers story that smells bad.

watch it shimmy like jello!!!

1) “I wasn’t going to come forward at all…”
2) Then “I wasn’t happy with how the other accusers were treated.” [uh- so you were or weren’t going to come forward at this point???]
3) Then an “anonymous tipster” calls every news outlet on the planet
4) Then with NO REAL EVIDENCE FROM THE TIPSTER (else the news crew would have posted it, the TV calls her and she feels “trapped”…. which sort of conflicts with 2 which implied she planned on going public. Then she doesn’t respond with – we were just friends…nor downplays it or just says he was a horn dog who was hitting on her in a creepy way…no she grabs a flag and runs laps around the track waving it to the crowd. Not even a 7 year old caught shoplifting responds this obviously on something an “anonymous tipster” gave no solid evidence on.

No this doesn’t smell like an affair, it really really really smells exactly like what Joe Biden arranged during the first and second court appointments of Clarence Thomas and her credibility stands up every bit as solid as Anita Hill.

…and all that said. I don’t support Cain as a candidate and have been unimpressed with all of his debates and thought 9-9-9 was the dumbest thing north of Ron Paul. He’s inexperienced and inferior [as a candidate] to all 3 front runners.

Cowboy Curtis in reply to Andy. | November 28, 2011 at 10:10 pm

You might be missing the point. The interesting thing isn’t what she’s saying, its what Cain and his lawyer are not- “I/he never slept with her.”

When people are accused of something, and they attack and deny everything except the actual allegation being asserted, that usually isn’t by accident. People who are innocent of X generally tend to flatly state they are innocent of X. People who aren’t innocent generally flatly state they aren’t guilty of Q, R, S, T, U, V, W, and Z, then damn anyone alleging otherwise.

When you can’t deny the matter at hand, obfuscate.

he has said there was no affair, on cnn. in no uncertain terms.
people just hear what they want though, no sense trying to get to the truth anymore.
people can pontificate about moral relativism all they want while feeling good about believing stories with no proof.
      foolish.

What do you want, a wagging finger and a “I did not have sex with that woman?” EVERY time another unspported claim comes out.

I have women’s phone numbers in my directory. Haven’t had sex with them. I’ve helped women out financially, haven’t had sex with them.

Unless they come with anything more substantial, this is more of the same non-evidentiary crap conservative bloggers have been eating up with a spoon to bring Cain down and advance their own preferred candidate.

I beginning to think this ‘conservative movement’ DESERVES Newt. Just don’t expect me to show up for him.

The point is- they keep trotting these women out, and not one journalist bothers to ask a few simple questions.

Lesseee- 13 years… she claims. A 6th grade interviewer could smell this out in 15 minutes. But will they ask a simple question??? No- they just keep looping the accusation.

VetHusbandFather in reply to Cowboy Curtis. | November 29, 2011 at 9:10 am

Also keep in mind, Cain and his Lawyer made their statements BEFORE this woman made her statement. Is it any wonder their comments were guarded? They couldn’t be sure what she was going to accuse him of, other than some sort of sexual impropriety.

I suggest everyone rushing to defend Herman recall Weinergeddon from this Spring. Most people will react (and respond) in a certain way when a false allegation is thrown at them. When someone doesn’t act that way, its usually for a reason.

Now, if you were very falsely accused of an affair by a woman, would you say what Cain and his lawyer did, or something else?

I don’t want him to be guilty, but when he didn’t specifically deny what was alleged, well….draw your own conclusions.

Could be mostly phone sex. That would fit all the calls.

A few physical encounters and the rest is fantasy for both.

She apparently was ok with it. Why come forward now?

They say men are so faithless yet they forget that it takes two.

Except that you are wrong, he did deny the allegations.

Don’t you love how “reluctant” they say they are?

Apparently not reluctant enough.

She’s claiming that this was inevitable but if it was a personal and private relationship, who knew? Her family? Why did she tell them?

If the media knew this enough to look inevitable, what were they waiting for?

And last, they state here cell phone records contained a repeated cell phone. They can’t even say it belongs to Cain. Plus what other evidence other than phone calls does she have?

Don’t expect to see this type of digging in Romney or Newt’s background. (unless it genuinely IS a surprise)

THE MEDIA LIKE EITHER OF THEM AS THE REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE.

And that should bother any rational being.

I don’t have enough information to draw a conclusion about Cain – maybe he did it, maybe it’s a smear campaign.

But I certainly have drawn some conclusions about those who are so willing to either accept what they are spoonfed, or ignore/obfuscate the facts and quickly declare him guilty.

I’m not buying the new allegations, you notice the whole love fest the MSM was having over sexual harrassment dissappeared? Notice that Gloria Allred is no longer in the lime light? The Dems are wearing out the sex card like they wore out the race card.

No, liberals are desparate to de-rail Cain as this nullifies their race card. Even if Cain doesn’t get the nomination, Gingrich or Romney give Cain the VP spot just to poke a stick in Obama’s eye. It would be fun to watch the gaffe master Biden fall all over himself debating Cain. To further support the idea that the DNC is attempting to shape the political battlefield, they are now attacking Romney with web ads “MittvMitt.com” Romney as a liberal is going to be tough on Obama just as much as Cain as a black person is going to be tough because they take away Obama’s razor thin perceived advantage.

Any new allegations of impropriety against Cain better come with some solid evidence. And frankly, I’m sick and tired of so-called conservatives throwing candidates under the bus every time a smear campaign is launched. It’s no wonder we end up with crappy candidates. If Cain were such a dog, why on earth did these supposed upstanding citizens wait until the last month to come forward?

Sometimes, the right in this country disgust me as much as the left.

DINORightMarie | November 29, 2011 at 6:07 am

I would like to know who else she has on her phone records – i.e. a Dem operative who contacted her, like Anita Hill was contacted back in the day.

This is such an obvious set-up, made-up BS story.

This is, once again, the “sex-crazed black man” card being tossed down. Only this time, they have a person willing to make false accusations, insinuating things that plant poisonous seeds. Whether she is proven a liar or not, the seeds are now sown. They will reap the toxic harvest of “unstable, sex-crazed, hypocrite” or some such idoicy.

They tried this with every opponent of Obama’s, and worse, in his “career” climb.

This is just more Alinsky, Dem-leftist, Rule 13 hate in action.

I wonder what this lady was promised in exchange for lying? Like Anita Hill, who made HUGE career and income gains after the trial, this lady stands to cash in big.

Yeah. Like a dead fish. Chicago-on-the-Potomac lives on, crushing all who stand in their way.

Going to the mattresses, indeed.

The ‘sex crazed black man’ meme smacks of the Democrat party’s approach to smear – they think we’re all low minded racist bigots.

But the ‘Cain is not a true conservative’ meme is not coming from the Democrats, that is the RINO elitists trying to neutralize the insurgent base of the party.

This isn’t so much about Cain in particular as it is about the convention and who is suitable for the VP slot. The powers-that-be do not want to be compelled to accept any type of real firebrand. They want milquetoast.

She looks like trailer park trash.

[…] he was pretty much toast after hearing his answers on foreign policy … this will finish him. Unlike the other vague allegations of sexual harassment that had little evidence to back the the stories up, this one is quite […]

It’s kind of funny — no, it’s actually kind of pathetic — to see people who demand to see “proof” of Cain’s transgressions as if direct testimony from the only other living human being who might be able to say with certainty that a sexual affair took place was not the best proof possible.

People who still struggle with the blinding obviousness of this truth should recall how we came to know about the most famous infidelity of a generation — Monica Lewinsky’s liaisons with Bill Clinton.

Lewinsky did not blow the whistle on Bill. Had she done so, she would have saved everyone a lot of trouble. Clintonistas would have pretended not to believe her and tried their best to sully her. But it is absurd to imagine that most Americans would not have believed her.

Democrat== Private Life
Republican==Sexual Harassment
