Trump Impeachment Tag

Rep. Al Green (D-TX) has made no secret over the last two and a half years of his desire to impeach President Donald Trump. In fact, Green made impeachment the centerpiece of his seventh Congressional term. It remains the centerpiece for this term. He first spoke of it on the House floor on May 17, 2017 and has several times since in various floor speeches, statements, interviews, and on social media.

Okay, it's hard to think of a more ridiculous argument than this, yet the Democrats have concocted it for public consumption. Their point goes something like this:  Republicans are forcing them to pursue impeachment, against their (the Dems') better judgment, and . . . um, it's not good.  Unless it is.  (But it's not.)

Rep. Al Green (D-TX) has repeatedly made clear that there is nothing special counsel Robert Mueller could say that would prevent him from pursuing his goal of impeaching President Trump. He said it on the floor of the U.S. House early last month, and he reiterated that point Sunday in a tweet. The reason why? Green says Trump's alleged bigotry makes him unfit to serve in public office:
#MuellersReport did NOT investigate bigotry emanating from the Presidency harming our country. The findings do NOT negate the President’s bigotry. As long as bigotry influences the President’s policies, I will continue to seek his impeachment. #ImpeachmentIsNotDead

I read with great interest FiveThirtyEight's breakdown of "The Six Wings of the Democratic Party," so you can imagine my amusement when "Progressive Old Guard" House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) finally said what we all know to be true:  the House would be ridiculously stupid to impeach President Trump. Okay, she didn't say it quite like that, but that was the gist of it.  In an exclusive interview with The Washington Post, Pelosi announced that she was about to "give you some news right now because I haven’t said this to any press person before."

It's pretty clear that Democrats are more motivated to vote. Much of that is the nature of opposition -- it gets people more excited to be against something than to be for something. That explains the Republican surge in 2010 against Obama, and midterm surges against just about every other president in the past several decades.

Before Trump was sworn in, several so-called 'grassroots organizations' were pushing for his impeachment. The Huffington Post had the whole impeachment gig planned out: impeach Trump now because he's guaranteed to do something wrong at some point. Some of that chatter bubbled up and resulted in the same sentiments being shared publicly by elected officials. Rep. Maxine Waters was so convinced Trump ought to be impeached, she called for an investigation to find evidence enough for impeachment.

At least they spelled my name correctly:Over at Legal Insurrection Blog, they've been banging the drum for Governor Blagojevich and against a guilty verdict on the Impeachment for quite some time. Blogger William Jacobson has been pointing out Ricky Hendon as a guy who has...

Despite an impassioned last minute closing argument, Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich was found guilty by the Illinois Senate on the Article of Impeachment. The vote was 59-0 to convict Blagojevich of the single Article of Impeachment for abusing power. Elements of the Article included alleged...

Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich just finished his closing argument in the Senate impeachment trial. In an impassioned argument, Blagojevich invoked images of his immigrant parents, the people he tried to help by providing health care benefits, and working families.Blagojevich followed a strategy of saving his...

I didn't expect to end up opposing the impeachment of Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich. When the news first broke that Blagojevich was charged, among other things, with attempting to "sell" Barack Obama's vacant Senate seat, I was inclined to follow the media and pundits in...

Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich's last minute request to present a closing argument at the Senate impeachment trial has everyone speculating what he is up to. While there are many good speculative arguments as to what Blagojevich will say, there is one argument that no one...

It has just been announced on the floor of the Illinois Senate, nearing the end of the trial, that Governor Rod Blagojevich wants to appear at the end of the trial to argue his case against impeachment. Blagojevich to date has refused to participate on...

I listened to much of day two of the Illinois Senate impeachment trial of Gov. Rod Blagojevich. This was the day when the smoking gun would be revealed, in the form of four audio tapes just released by U.S. Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald. Despite the claims...
