Truth in Obamacare consumer price increase billing

Truth in Obamacare consumer price increase billing

Just passing along the cost to consumers, so shouldn’t they know it?

The myth of most government imposed costs is that it hits the business.

In fact businesses pass along higher costs through higher prices.

Usually the precise government imposed cost is hidden.

In the age of Obamacare, however, some businesses are breaking out the Obamacare cost as a separate billable line item.

Makes sense.

Via Washington Free Beacon:

A Florida restaurant is being forced to pass their healthcare expenses onto customers.

Sandra Clark, Director of Operations at Gator’s Dockside, told WRDQ that the restaurant is now adding a one percent surcharge to every customer’s bill to help pay for all 500 full time employees’ healthcare.

“Affordable healthcare is part of the cost of doing business. We’re definitely doing it [adding the surcharge] to stay afloat…,” she explained.

The restaurant group expects to pay up to $500,000 a year for its workers’ healthcare, but it does not expect to come close to recouping that recovering that.

That’ll be great until they make it illegal, as they have done with other taxes.

Prepare to be audited by the IRS.

They’ll need to add an ‘IRS Audit Fee’ line item next.

500 ft employees & it will be only $500,000 coverage costs? Where do you get health insurance for 1000 per year even in bulk buy?

My sales receipts at any retail store show the sales tax. Restaurants show the sales tax on their bills. Gas pumps show the taxes on gasoline. Since Roberts declared this is a tax, it’s certainly fair to list that tax.

I’m thinkin the “penalty” was declared a tax.

The requirement that certain sized businesses supply certain health care benefits still acts like a hidden tax. It is “single payer” via contortion of law.

We now know they anticipated 40% of insurers would lose money, and already agreed to subsidize them. They knew costs would be driven up for the already insured, who are mostly the middle class, effectively getting slammed with a massive “tax” increase. Where is all that extra premium money going?

    How to kill free enterprise:

    If it moves, tax it.
If it keeps moving, regulate it.
If it stops moving, subsidize it.

Folks, I know we all hate Obamacare and other government intrusions, but let me tell you that this is not a good business decision. If one percent of revenues will pay the added cost of Obamacare over healthcare costs paid last year, then a simple 1% increase in menu prices accomplishes the same thing and nobody has an excuse to badmouth the establishment.

I personally do not believe that 1% of any imaginable sales volume for a large business with 500 employees will even begin to touch the real cost increase – so there is another game afoot here. Free advertising? Maybe.

Perhaps the owner wants to show his disgust for the added cost to his business?

Nobody said they expected the 1% to cover, in fact, they said it would not:

“The restaurant group expects to pay up to $500,000 a year for its workers’ healthcare, but it does not expect to come close to recouping that recovering that.”

I do the same thing frequently in my business, just not about Obamacare. I’m state licensed by the NCDMV and they frequently add costs on me or simply take some portion of my receipts for dubious and vaguely explained reasons. I pass the costs on because I have to and I make to sure my customers understand I am not simply gouging them, I tell them exactly why prices just went up.

I’d meant to add that governments tax everything they can, but businesses are an obvious target because they have money, duh. But a secondary benefit for government to tax businesses is that they know the businesses, out of necessity, will pass the costs on to customers, and customers, most of whom not understanding the dynamics, will blame the business, not the government. That’s a sweet, sweet deal to politicians, and it’s why business is forever a target of tax-happy Democrats.
