House voting on new Amendments LIVE (Update – Done for night, No CR)

Current status a/o 10:15 p.m. Eastern — House passed two amendments, Senate then rejected. Looks like no more House votes tonight.
House will simply request a conference with the Senate tomorrow. So Harry Reid gets his “shutdown.”
So: shutdown happening. House is making a final move, but not something that'll solve the impasse tonight.

UPDATE — Senate quickly rejected House Amendments, thereby voting to preserve Congressional special privileges and unequal treatment of individuals. Looks like the likely House response will be limited specific “clean” funding similar to what was done with military pay. Make Democrats in Senate vote against funding Veterans Department, etc.
UPDATE — House passes Amendments. Everything, I repeat, everything gets funded, but (1) the individual mandate (but not “Obamacare”) is delayed one year to match the delay given businesses, and (2) Congress and its staff, and political appointees, have to go into the Obamacare exchanges with the same subsidies based on income level as everyone else. Now goes to Senate, where Democrats have said they will reject it within an hour of receipt and send it back to House “clean” again:

Obama wants a shutdown. He wants single payer, and wants the insurance exchanges to fail. They have most media in their back pockets already. People aren’t paying attention, except to hear about the terrorist Republicans. The Republicans in the Senate are divided from the Republicans in the House. Obama wants to use this against Republicans, and will as you see is already happening. And the media goes along with them. We will be shut down unless the Republicans in the House cave.
The entire thing is a strategy to win the House back. Obama and democrats have zero interest in their fiduciary responsibility.
You are so right. It’s about single premium payor which will destroy the insurance industry. Way to go Harry and Obama. You two need to be charged with treason.

If I were to suggest the next volley, it would be ObamaCare for all, no exceptions, no presidential waivers, effective 2014, just as the law states. Force B. Hussein to shut down the gov’t to protect his cronies.
… and the next volley, while risking the “war on women,” is to write a conscience clause exemption for sincerely held religious convictions.
And the next next volley should be Nuremberg: no one may be required to receive any medical treatment against his will, or the will of his parents in the case of minors.
Then again, it might be best to stop now. Tell Obama to pick one of the three CR’s.
It infuriates me that the Democrats are so hell-bent on governing against the people, forcing us to do things our Constitution neither requires nor permits. There is no such thing as compromise, only concessions from Republicans. Only Republicans are asked (expected, by the media anyway) to compromise core principles. Thank God there are still some who refuse to do so, even if it means defeat. No reason whatsoever to leave bloody Republican fingerprints on Democrat legislation.

The House is the body that is closest to the people. Every one of its members was elected in 2012.

Including the power of an effective monopoly (i.e. government) to corrupt and distort the market. Especially its role to inflate costs of health care, which then requires “insurance” and other subsidies to alleviate the consequences caused by a selective fleecing.
$2.7 trillion in tax receipts. Over $1 trillion deficit. No budget of record. Someone is lying about the inevitability of a shutdown and/or default. Is Obama watching a video again?

If the Republicans cave after all this and implement Obamacare fully, I AM DONE. I will not vote for a republican EVER AGAIN. It is time to do what they did in Canada and run a third party. Who cares if we lose, BOTH OF THESE PARTIES ARE TAKING TURNS SCREWING THE AMERICAN PUBLIC.

No George Bush and Bob Dole gave us eight years of slick Willie. HW lied and compromised with the dems to raise taxes and lost reelection. Bob Dole cut the legs out from under Gingrich in the 90’s shutdown and was the single worst candidate the GOP fielded in since Gerald Ford, except for McCain in 2008. I’m tired of being stuck with the establishment GOP candidate in every freaking election. I’m done with this party until they can demonstrate that they actually want to stand up to the Democrats and actually score something on the political battlefield. Seriously, this party is always ALWAYS, playing defense. When we actually have someone who fights, progressive Republicans fight against them like they did with Gingrich, Reagan, Cruz, Palin, etc. I’m done.
Republicans are clearly the lesser evil. Corruption in the exception can be addressed through legal remedies. Unfortunately, it is protected by fundamental corruption, and neither will be resolved until the latter is expunged.
That’s very shortsighted and so 2012 presidential election-esque. I haven’t been a republican for years but voted for Romney as the lesser of 2 evils. What a bumbling mistake his campaign was…too many concessions made to pander. Stick to what got you the primary.
It does not work to have republicans that try to play patty cake with the middle. The liberals are winning because they don’t back down…time for those with spine to do likewise. Look at Bush playing both sides towards the end when he had no choice but to deal with a hostile congress and look what happened to his approval rating. Liberals never warmed up and conservatives were ticked off.
If the Senate is so hell-bent on not budging even the slightest on their position, and repeatedly sending precisely the same thing back to the House, it’s time for turnabout to be fair play.
The House should re-vote on precisely what they sent to the Senate the first time, word for word, and send it back to the Senate.
The House offered to compromise, and all compromise was rejected by the Senate. Now let the House stick to their guns with their original offer, and budge not an inch, and see how far the Senate is willing to come towards them, if at all.
At this point, the best thing the Republicans could do would be to the give the clean bill with no extension on the individual mandate, but retain the clause about Congress and its staff, and political appointees participating on the exchanges. Then every Democrat Senator will be voting on the basis of keeping their perquisites. That will make great campaign material, with no chance to spin it about the sticking up for the people. Also give the House and Republicans something to brag about.

You know who. Sorry to be Donnie Downer about this kabuki show, but I still have no idea why Boehner even stepped in this steaming pile to begin with if he intended to capitulate on an hourly basis! To make matters worse he keeps confusing me by making lesser and lesser offers and actually passing them in CR’s that are voted upon, while Harry just keeps on not negotiating his position away and doing the right/strong thing. This is embarrassing.
But not surprising, as you pointed out.
If nothing else, Republicans need to remove funding for elective abortions, and provide funding of risky pregnancies. A civilized society cannot condone, and certainly cannot normalize, premeditated murder for material, physical, or egoistic benefit. There is no greater cause of corruption than individuals who are incapable or unwilling to accept responsibility for their actions, and are willing to terminate another human life for their convenience.
Ugh, yet another Republican/Conservative war on women that just want to kill their babies. I can see it now.
