WSJ: Flydubai Attacker Was Grounded by Oman Over ‘Radical Views’

Prime Minister Netanyahu: “The attacker underwent Islamist radicalization. He intended to crash the plane with all its passengers on board”

The Omani co-pilot of the Flydubai flight, who attacked the captain and apparently attempted to crash the plane, was barred from flying by his home country.

Update: Reports on Friday evening suggest that an Israeli team has landed in the United Arab Emirates to assist with the ongoing investigation.

The pilot, identified as Hamam al-Hammami, “had previously been banned from flying by Oman over concerns he had adopted radical ideological views,” The Wall Street Journal reported Friday.

In fact, the attacker did not conceal his Islamist sympathies from his current employer, the Emirati government-owned Flydubai. According to Israel’s i24NEWS, “al Qaeda-linked terrorist images” were found on the attacker’s professional LinkedIn social media account.

His previous employer, the national carrier Oman Air, considered him a security risk. According to ABC News, “Al Hammami, while working as a co-pilot trainee for Oman Air in 2024, was found to be in possession of extremist materials.” He was pulled from flying duty but kept “working for the airline in an administrative role,” the broadcaster added. He began working with Flydubai earlier this year.

The WSJ continued:

The FlyDubai co-pilot who stabbed his captain and sent Flight 1073 diving toward the ground had previously been banned from flying by Oman over concerns he had adopted radical ideological views, people familiar with the matter said.

Despite the ban, the pilot was hired by FlyDubai, the people said, allowing him to fly on the sensitive route connecting the United Arab Emirates and Israel. The alleged attacker is an Omani national named Hamam al-Hammami, said other people briefed on the investigation.

It couldn’t be determined whether Oman shared concerns about the pilot’s radicalization with other countries or airlines. The nature of his radicalization couldn’t be learned.

The U.A.E. is leading the investigation into the incident. A U.A.E. spokesperson declined to comment on the attacker’s history in Oman “to avoid prejudging the outcome of the investigation or interfering with its course.”

FlyDubai and Oman’s government didn’t respond to requests for comment.

A senior adviser to the U.A.E.’s ruler and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu described Wednesday’s near-downing of FlyDubai Flight 1073 as terrorism on Friday.

“The attacker underwent Islamic radicalization,” Netanyahu said. “He came to crash the passengers on board.”

Aviation-security analysts said the incident represented a significant security failure. While a screening error might have let a weapon through, a motivated assailant should have been detected and caught long before reaching the airport, they said.

Netanyahu said the picture of what happened on the flight is becoming clearer. The prime minister said he was Omani, but other details of his identity remain unclear.

Confirming the initial Israeli assessment, the Emirati investigators are treating the incident as a terrorist attack. The Jerusalem Post reported Saturday:

The co-pilot of flydubai flight FZ1073 attempted to carry out a “terrorist” attack during the flight, the United Arab Emirates prosecutor general, Counselor Dr. Hamad Saif Al Shamsi, said on Saturday, according to the state news agency WAM.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the circumstances of the incident, the motives, and any related connections, as well as to examine physical and digital evidence, he added.

On Friday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the brave intervention by Israeli passengers averted a 9/11-type catastrophe. “As time passes, the picture is becoming clearer. Yaniv and his heroic companions prevented a disaster on the scale of 9/11,” he wrote on X.

Israel is now investigating whether the attacker had ties to terrorist groups or actors. “The attacker underwent Islamist radicalization. He intended to crash the plane with all its passengers on board,” he added. “We are now investigating whether he was sent, and whoever sent him will pay a very heavy price.”

New details surrounding the cockpit attack are also emerging. The Omani pilot used an axe to stab his co-pilot and take over the plane. “The co-pilot of flydubai flight FZ1073 used a crash axe to attempt to carry out a “terrorist attack” during the flight, the United Arab Emirates prosecutor general said on Saturday, according to a state news agency,” The Guardian (UK) reported. “The UAE statement cited the prosecutor general as saying the co-pilot also tried to take control of the plane during Wednesday’s attack on the Israel-bound flight.”

How did he just happen to have a bidline that put him on this flight? I smell a broader conspiracy within FZ Operations.

It’s not that Muslims shouldn’t be issued pilot certificates, it’s that Muslims shouldn’t be allowed within 5 miles of an airplane…

Sounds like FlyDubai may have a DEI hiring policy.

‘Radical views’.

Is that akin to our FBI burping up impotent ‘on our radar’ nonsense?

Radical viewS=muzzlimm period.

Quite seriously – when I was in college many years ago the general consensus was that nationalism (with the desire to expand the area and economic power of one’s country), and the assumption of the cultural superiority of Western Culture had caused both the First and Second World Wars. The U.S. particularly like the later; we could afford to be humble and we needed to elevate blacks so we took the official position that black culture is equal to Western Culture: Cardi B singing Rap has the same cultural weight and value of Pavarotti singing opera of 200 years ago.

While all this was happening our leaders took their (collective) eye off an older, more primitive cause of wars: religion. In the rush to demolish nationalism and equalize the value of cultures we not only opened our borders but invited in, and in large numbers, an incompatible group who not only have alien culture which has different values (no Protestant Work Ethic) but a religion with who the West has been fighting wars for over a thousand years.

This is not going to end well.

Obviously many of my generation, and the next accepted these teachings and swallowed them whole. In Europe first we saw the creation of the E.U. and this made sense – in economic terms. However creation of the E.U. was followed by creation of the Schengen Zone which opened free unchecked passage between E.U. nations. This sounded good, but the de facto result is the crumbling of national identities. Now every German can have dinner in Paris without the bother of renting a Panzer tank. Great, but thesecopen borders

islam is a theocracy, masquerading as religion (which it is NOT)

Nah. “Our leaders” were focused only on solidifying their own domestic political hegemony, so they took actions with that horse-blindered goal in mind, regardless of whatever larger consequences it would impose on the nation. And they were so brainless about it that they managed to lose what was left of their own control over their own party.

Religion isn’t the problem. Islam is specifically the problem.

Inconceivable! I have been assured by the Very Best And Brightest (TM) that this was all a Zionist plot carried out by the Mossad, ICE, White nationalists, huge data centers and a double-secret organizations called the Stonecutters. Or something like that. Whatever.

This is a time to stand together, and make the point: “After they’re done wiith us, they’re comin for you.”

When The Beebs inevitably stages heroes’ medals or whatever for The Jihadi Extracting Plumber, and Leak Fixing Dentist — that’s hysterical — they hang the same medal on the pilot, right then, and first.

“My privilege on behalf of the flight, Israel, and all of us, to recognize…”

“There is no calculating the heroism of one vs another, so we’re going in time order…

“India can claim of their people; we can recognize him. Acting first was the pilot who chose to spend what seemed his last breaths to give other people a chance.”

“We, Israel are privileged to award him the order of…”

If we’re lucky, there’s some heroism medal never before awarded to a non-Israeli. Ideally the event is held in The Emirates.

Hopin The Beebs has a PR advisor he’ll listen to. Golden opportunity.to nail the message:

“They’re comin for all of us. Meanwhile, they’ll burn any of you to get to their target: of the moment. That, too will become you eventually..”

The nature of his radicalization couldn’t be learned.
Well, maybe not before that last flight….

Why isn’t this a campaign issue for the midterms? Why are we allowing anti-Semite, Commie/Marxists lying muslims to even run for office? All of these filthy groups’ aim is to destroy our country! Where are our politicians to defend our country? Instead they are yaking about daylight saving time! Canada is full of muslims and none have been vetted. With no northern border security this will be a major security risk. I once thought Trump was our knight on a white horse to save us from islam but no longer.

No way! Yet another lone wolf to known wolf. /S

If institutions staffed with ideological idiots too worried about being called names if they start asking questions can’t/won’t perform basic scrutiny of who the heck they put in the cockpit or another position of great trust and responsibility which could be weaponized ….then the answer comes down to a very few choices:
1. Throw all the ideological idiots out of institutions and err on the harsh side of strict
2. Destroy the institution, raze it to the ground and start over with ALL current institution leaders/staff permanently banned.
3. Lay back and enjoy the decline into anarchy

So the weapon was standard issue already IN the cockpit?

Sounds like we need another 48 hours to get all these yutzes on the same page.

The terrorist pilot was radicalized by the ideology of “Submission.” Seems that ideology’s core tenets exhort followers to kill or subjugate non-Muslims.

“Radical views” = mainstream islam

If you follow the clear teachings of the faith, you commit terrorist atrocities.
