Trump Signs Order Renaming Lake Ontario to Lake America
Trump: “Now, all we need is an ocean. So, maybe we’ll have to change the name of the Atlantic and/or the Pacific.”
President Donald Trump signed an executive order renaming Lake Ontario as Lake America as the trade war between his administration and Canada continues.
The order, Honoring the American History of the Great Lakes and Renaming Lake Ontario as Lake America, directs the Department of the Interior to update all systems to identify it as Lake America.
“This is a lake that has most of its volume in the United States,” Trump was told by a staff member. “The deepest parts of the lake sit in United States territory, so this will reflect that this is an American lake.”

Trump recently slapped Canada with new 50% tariffs. Canada answered back with its own “dollar-for-dollar” tariffs.
Trump addressed the trade issue:
As you know, Canada has been ripping us off for a long time on trade, very sadly. Even the military, you know, we defend Canada for nothing. We don’t get anything. They don’t pay us to defend Canada, but we defend Canada, and they understand that.
As an example, we bought icebreakers. They’d like to use them. We have 11 brand new icebreakers coming in. They’d like to use the icebreakers.
They don’t pay for anything, and they want to be treated like a state. But they’re not a state. But they want to be treated like they’re a state. And so we just can’t do that anymore.
We lose on average over the last 15 years $60 billion dollars a year carrying Canada. So we just can’t do it anymore. We love the people of Canada. I don’t think their representatives do an appropriate job. Maybe they’ll change. I really don’t know. It doesn’t make much difference.
But we can’t let…the whole Canadian thing has been going on for decades, and it has to come to a stop. So we’re going to be doing tariffs on their cars that are coming in at a substantial level because we want to make the cars here. We don’t want Canada. You know, they can make their own cars if they want, and they can continue to make their cars for Canada, but we don’t want to make, we don’t want them to make cars for the United States of America. It’s very simple. Likewise, many other products. So, the lake change, the Lake of America, was something I’ve been thinking about for a long time.

We agree that it is nonsense as it forces conservatives to defend Trump on what was a non-existent issue.
This has made headlines and people are asking “why are we doing this? Why does the president care about the name of a lake rather than what we care about?”
Instead of going for policy wins before the mid-terms, Trump is acting and looking the fool.
Hey, it’s not like we still have a president whose attention span is shorter than a goldfish’s. Trump can spare the brain cells for a few minutes, and still bring home the bacon and fry it up in a pan…. rather than find yet another warm beach to have a nap.

It is my understanding that the Canadian KD is made with noodles measured in metric length.
Except all the 10mm noodles are always missing from the box.
If you read the article I attached you’ll find that American Kraft Macaroni and Cheese and Canadian KD (the product formerly known as Kraft Dinner)are actually a separate products made from different ingredients. KD is actually manufactured in Canada while Kraft Macaroni and Cheese is manufactured in the U.S.
You have that backwards. Donnie just eliminated tariffs on ground beef to help American ranchers so he should do the same for American Mac & cheese.

Google Maps says it’s the “Gulf of America.” The directive wasn’t ignored.
It only says that in the USA. In the rest of the world it says “Gulf of Mexico”.
I live near Lake Ontario. All the signs say “Lake Ontario.” Not to mention, I called it that multiple times in a book I’m writing. I’m sorry Mr. President but I don’t think the new name is going to stick.

We see that the road signage incorrectly displays the wrong name for the Lake of America. As we’ve communicated the correct name to your relevant State Agencies and political subdivisions we can only assume you are too incompetent to correct errors.
Therefore the Federal Govt has graciously consented to withhold ALL transportation funds in an escrow account until such time as you remediate the errors. Please contact this office to schedule a site survey of each replaced sign.

NY can sue and will. However, the requirement for Executive Branch to disburse funds is generally held to be NLT the end of the FY which would be an entire year later on September 30, 2027. In the meantime they could suck it up and figure out interim financing if they decide replacing signs is the hill to.die on.

OK, generally I try to give the Trumpster the benefit of the doubt, but I gotta call him out on this one.
It’s just…. not smart.
The Lake isn’t named after the Canadian Province, instead the Canadian Province is named after the lake.
The Indigenous Hurons named the lake that long before Europeans came here en mass.
Additionally….. naming a Lake after a country is pretty much just not done, other bodies of water like seas (or gulfs) all the time, but lakes….. not so much.
We have serious trade (and tariff) issues with Canada to deal with, this EO is just…. unnecessary.
And, if actually implemented, fairly expensive.
Redoing every printed map, every traffic sign, every on-line reference to “Lake Ontario” won’t be cheap.
But this is a GREAT lake. Not just some normal lake. It’s YUGE.
People need to lighten up a bit.

I’m afraid this could be seen as a sign that Trump is Losing It. Preferring getting under the skin of opponents to settling issues may sometimes work in the real estate business, but it rarely works in international affairs. Trump appears childish and petulant at the same time that he flits from issue to issue without any signs of strategy or firm, attainable objectives. Renaming landmarks by himself instead of negotiating seriously on trade is simply absurd. I really wonder whether he is still, at the age of 80, all there.
