Trump Reveals U.S. is Speaking to Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf
The speaker apparently became the de facto top operative after Israel eliminated Ali Larijan, chief of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council.
President Donald Trump revealed to The New York Post that America’s point of contact in Iran is Speaker of Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.
Trump’s comments came after Iran targeted Israel’s largest oil refinery in Haifa and a water and electrical plant in Kuwait.

Iran escalated its attack on infrastructure by striking a water and electrical plant in Kuwait, and an oil refinery was set ablaze in the northern Israeli city of Haifa after the Iranian missile attack. Asked for his response on the strike, he told The Post: “You’ll see shortly.”
As Trump brings more military might to the region that could inflict catastrophic damage on Iran, he encouraged what’s left of Iran’s regime to make a deal before it’s too late.
He exclusively told The Post that the US will find out whether the speaker is willing to work with Americans –soon.
“We’re gonna find out,” Trump told The Post when asked about Iran’s Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. “I’ll let you know that in about a week.”
Once again, Iran denied any direct negotiations with the U.S.
“We have had no direct negotiations with the United States so far,” said Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei. “The meetings that Pakistan holds with neighboring countries are within a framework they have designed themselves, and we have not participated in this framework.”
Baghaei described America’s demands as “largely excessive, unrealistic, and unreasonable.”
Ghalibaf has been named as a member of the close circle around new Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei, who has not been seen or heard from since the strikes started in February.

Earlier this month, Trump demanded to have a say regarding Iran’s new leader.
Politico reported last week that Trump’s administration has been “weighing” Ghalibaf “as a potential partner — and even a future leader” of Iran.
Trump has mentioned a few times that America has held productive conversations with Iran.
Ghalibaf denied that those talks had happened, calling for a “complete and remorseful punishment” of America and Israel.
I mean, the speaker’s response to Trump’s comments proves he would never be a friend or ally of the U.S.

That may be why he was named. Last time Trump said he was talking to Iranians in the government, they went through a bout of purging.

Actually, I hope the opposite. All honchos in the mullah-ocracy need dirt naps.
And thus he painted a bright target on this guy.
Channel 14 says it obtained an exchange among Iranian leaders:
President Pezeshkian: “I want to be involved in the negotiations with the U.S. Without a quick deal, our entire economy will collapse in 3 weeks.”
IRGC chief Vahidi: “That’s exactly why you can’t be involved. You’ll give up everything for a deal.”
After the call ended, the report says the Iranian president told his companions he feels like a ‘hostage’, “I’m unable to resign, I cannot make my own decisions, all I can do is read from a script I’m given”
Channel 14 concludes its report by saying that the IRGC is effectively running the country now.
So, Iran is effectively a military dictatorship under the IRGC chief. Its President is a figurehead and supreme leader in a coma.
And Galibaf is – what? Just the speaker of their parliament and clearly NOT aligned with any of the above. So, we’re talking to a guy with zero actual power hoping to make him the head of a new regime.
Pretty good odds the IRGC takes him out.
