Trump: ‘I Have to be Involved in the Appointment’ of Iran’s Next Leader

“Khamenei’s son [Mojtaba Khamenei] is a lightweight.”

President Donald Trump told Axios that he must be involved in picking Iran’s next leader.

“They are wasting their time,” Trump said. “Khamenei’s son [Mojtaba Khamenei] is a lightweight. I have to be involved in the appointment, like with Delcy [Rodriguez] in Venezuela.”

Trump insisted that Mojtaba is “unacceptable.”

“We want someone that will bring harmony and peace to Iran,” Trump added.

Trump already said that the majority of the people the U.S. thought could lead Iran “are dead.”

Do we even know for sure that Mojtaba is alive?

On Tuesday, Israel struck a building holding Iran’s top Mullah body as they gathered to select the next supreme leader.

Also, we’ve been told by Secretary of War Pete Hegseth and others that Operation Epic Fury isn’t a “regime change” operation.

Honestly, the Trump administration should have never said anything like that because we all knew the operation would wipe out the top people.

We all knew a regime change would happen because, without Khamenei’s lackeys, there would have to be one.

Ladies and gentlemen, I give you the next thing that will trigger the left 😂😂

Absolutely Trump needs to be involved if for no other reason than to stop a Leigh weight or yet another cray cray Muslim from being installed.

Nope I don’t agree. Ideally they will have elections for a leader with real power. Elections can be overseen by various muslim countries. The US can also send observers. However, putting boots on the ground or being involved in another countries choice of leader are bridges too far. They had just better choose wisely.

mailman in reply to ztakddot. | March 5, 2026 at 3:18 pm

      Ztakddot proving me right 😂😂

ztakddot in reply to mailman. | March 5, 2026 at 4:11 pm

Oh please. I’m left of you but that doesn’t mean much considering how right you are, I;m in the middle which makes me the subject of abuse from both sides,

I just don’t think we should get sucked too far into gaza, or venezuella, or iran or any country for that matter. I was in favor of going onto afghanistan but not staying. I wasn’t in favor of going into iraq and i was not in favor of staying,

In general I want to show my displeasure by breaking things that need to be broken but letting someone else clean up the mess. Once you stick your hand in too deep you own too much of the problem. Then come boots on the ground, then garrisoning,. With garrisoning you are no longer mobile. You become a target. This is followed by deaths.

        This is my philosophy.

Sanddog in reply to ztakddot. | March 5, 2026 at 4:11 pm

The last thing they need is elections monitored by Muslim countries. The vast majority of the population wants a secular government and a secular country.

Maybe we can just send them a list of candidates that we won’t blow up.

I like this idea although it is Israel that is bombing the leadership.

“Maybe we can just send them a list of candidates that we won’t blow up.”
Trump has already made his pick. See my reply to the post that mailman made today (March 5, 2026) at 12:47 pm .

Yes, I did respond to mailman: today (March 5) at 2:01 pm. That’s the post in which I posted the links to the video and the article.

I can see it just fine. It contains a link to a YT video of Presidential Spiritual Adviser Paula White ranting away for over a minute and a half, and another to a SubStack article about Trump’s former spiritual advisor Robert Morris getting convicted of sexually abusing a 12-year-old.

We’re at war
I’ll cut him a lot of slack in the information he makes public as the art of war necessarily includes deception

    ztakddot in reply to rduke007. | March 5, 2026 at 1:09 pm

Not formally at war. It’s just a large scale real world exercise with our middle eastern ally Israel.

mailman in reply to ztakddot. | March 5, 2026 at 3:20 pm

Iran has been at war with us since 1979. We, royal we, get to approve their next leader just as the Allies approved the new leaders of Japan and Germany after WWII.

moonmoth in reply to mailman. | March 5, 2026 at 4:07 pm

“´[we] get to approve their next leader just as the Allies approved the new leaders of Japan and Germany after WWII.”

The CIA installed our approved leader in Iran in 1953. Research “Operation Ajax”.

ztakddot in reply to mailman. | March 5, 2026 at 4:16 pm

I agree with iran being at war with us since 79.

My comment was true (Congress hasn’t declared war) and half snark at the verbal gymnastics people go through when war hasn’t formally been declared,

“Khamenei’s son [Mojtaba Khamenei] is a lightweight.” No, he is a psychopath.

‘Involved’ meaning ‘satisfied that the new leader is smart enough to stop funding terror and attacking us and our allies, or we’ll kill him too’.

NavyMustang | March 5, 2026 at 2:23 pm

That anyone would suggest Khamenei’s son as a successor is disturbing.

I can’t believe that the Iranian people would let a radical Muslim within a million miles of such a leadership position in Iran. If they can find a non-Muslim that is even better.

There aren’t as many Muslims in Iran as one might think. An anonymous survey in 2020 showed that only 40% said that they are practicing Muslims.

And President Trump can suggest, can influence, but it’s not his place to tell the Iranian people who will lead them. I trust that they will be wise in their choice.

Let Pahlavi oversee the process. If they ultimately choose him, I would be okay with that.

mailman in reply to NavyMustang. | March 5, 2026 at 3:22 pm

The Persian majority, when they are given the choice, won’t be putting a foreign Muslim in charge of their country. Make no mistakes here, Persians consider Muslims foreigners in their country.

retiredcantbefired | March 5, 2026 at 2:57 pm

Any leader who is seen as having been installed by the United States immediately loses a lot of credibility.

Trump should know this about Iran.

All he needed to say is that a continuation of the ayatollahs’ regime will be unacceptable.

The ONLY people who we need to worry about are the Persians. If they select someone that Trump approves of then that is all that matters.

Whether the EU approves of that leader is neither here nor there since the EU will have no say in anything related to Iran given their support of the mullahs and protecting them from the consequences of their actions.

ztakddot in reply to mailman. | March 5, 2026 at 4:18 pm

EU == Macron and Macron can go F himself or let his husband do it, He should spend time worrying about his own country.

He said the quiet part out loud. It’s not that the USA is going to handpick their next leader, it’s just a matter of not repeating the same mistake. If they install another “death to America, death to Israel” puppet, that man can expect to have a very short life span. They need an interim government that can stomp the mullahs into dust and end Sharia law before the people can elect a new government. Since the majority of Iranian voters are now secular, vs religious, they stand a better chance of an outcome that will make every one happy.

mailman in reply to Sanddog. | March 5, 2026 at 4:35 pm

Exactly this BUT you know the left is going to lose their sh1t over this like the low information. Democrats are showing us who post here.

Yes Persians will get to select their own leaders but the US will ensure they don’t fuck it up again!

henrybowman | March 5, 2026 at 4:22 pm

Trump is looking particularly Hestonesque in that photo…

No, Mr. President you do not have to be “involved” in the appointment of Iran’s next leader. What you can do is remind Iran that choices have consequences.

I don’t think anyone is fooled by the use of the word “involved” when what is likely meant is you wish to determine the deciding factor in picking the next leader. If you want a puppet regime just say so and lay out why it is necessary to the U.S. advantage.

why cant we admit its a fn regime change!!!!!!!!!!!!

it is what it is

I’m sure the Iranians would have been more open to peaceful relations had they had proper DEI training, maybe a Ayatollah of color.
