The more I read about John McCain, the more I cringe.
“In September 2008 Condoleezza Rice traveled to Libya to have talks with Gadhafi. And just a few days before the 2008 presidential election, Bush signed a settlement under which Libya compensated families of victims of Lockerbie and other 80s-era attacks.
Who else was involved in the effort to forge better ties with Gadhafi? John McCain. In August 2009 he led a delegation of senators including fellow hawks Lindsey Graham and Joe Lieberman on a trip to visit the Libyan leader in Tripoli. Discussed during the visit was delivery of — get this — American military equipment to Gadhafi (a man with American blood on his hands no less).”
I understand that perhaps it wasn’t McCain’s decision in full to go to Libya in 2008, but to act as if it never happened, while ordering men to put their lives in jeopardy, does not inspire confidence. To paraphrase Bierce, John McCain has lied so much and so notoriously that he has neither the legal nor moral right to tell the truth.
Leave this one to the kids, Senator.

Wow, the unprincipled party suddenly develops principles. No, I'm wrong about that. They only want the GOP to be honorable. Whatever they do doesn't matter, because they know what's best.
Sounds like the citizen scholar got caught with his hand in the cookie jar and is trying to bluff it out. If he had been as smart as the thought he wouldn't have used that email account for his politics.
H.L. Mencken: [edited]
• Every election is a sort of advance auction of stolen goods.
• All government is essentially organized exploitation, and almost always is the implacable enemy of every industrious man.
• A professional politician is a professionally dishonorable man. To get anywhere near high office he makes so many compromises and submits to so many humiliations that he becomes indistinguishable from a streetwalker.
• Every decent man is ashamed of the government he lives under.
Respectfully, I'm a big fan of your blog, but I find it quite disconcerting when conservatives question McCain's morality or integrity. As an American, I'll forever be grateful for the courage he displayed while being tortured by the Viet Cong for 5 years, and merely ask that those who haven't made anything approaching his sacrifice for their country be, at the very least, restrained in their criticism of him. He's not perfect – who the hell is? – but if conservatism means anything it means showing respect for those whose heroism has allowed us to enjoy the freedom we typically take for granted. I hope to hell I have children who grow up to have even an ounce of McCain's integrity and character.
Helps to understand why so many of us voted third party or stayed home in 2008 doesn't it? These are the corrupt GOP leaders who join the libs in calling us Tea Partiers violent racists.
And to Mr. Levick,
"To paraphrase Bierce, John McCain has lied so much and so notoriously that he has neither the legal nor moral right to tell the truth."
McCain should have stayed out of politics. Having been tortured as a POW is not a lifetime license to sell out your country.
