Jimmy Kimmel Insists He Hadn’t Meant to Brand Charlie Kirk’s Alleged Assassin as MAGA

Jimmy Kimmel Insists He Hadn’t Meant to Brand Charlie Kirk’s Alleged Assassin as MAGA

Yeah, um, you were suspended for false accusations.

Jimmy Kimmel returned to TV on Tuesday night.

Kimmel addressed Disney/ABC pulling him after he made false accusations against the man suspected of assassinating Charlie Kirk, saying he belonged to MAGA.

However, Kimmel said he never meant to make light of Kirk’s assassination, but the suspension happened because of the false accusation. He also planned to double down to “fan the flames with the MAGA fan base.”

The monologue seemed heartfelt, but I’m not buying it. I also never heard the words, “I’m sorry.”

Kimmel said:

I’ve been hearing a lot about what I need to say and do tonight, and the truth is, I don’t think what I have to say is going to make much of a difference. If you like me, like me, if you don’t, you don’t. I have no illusions about changing anyone’s mind, but I do want to make something clear, because it’s important to me as a human and that is, you understand that it was never my intention to make light of the of a young man. I don’t think there’s anything funny about it.

I posted a message on Instagram of the day he was killed, sending love to his family and asking for compassion. And I meant it. I still do, nor was it my intention to blame any specific group for the actions of what it was obviously a deeply disturbed individual that was really the opposite of the point I was trying to make.

But I understand that to some that felt either ill timed or unclear, or maybe both, and for those who think I did point a finger, I get why you’re upset. If the situation was reversed, there’s a good chance I’d have felt the same way. I have many friends and family members on the other side who I love and remain close to, even though we don’t agree on politics at all.

I don’t think the murderer who shot Charlie Kirk represents anyone. This was a sick person who believed violence was a solution and it isn’t ever and also selfishly, I am the person who gets a lot of threats. I get many ugly and scary threats against my life, my wife, my kids, my co workers because of what I choose to say, and I know those threats don’t come from the kind of people on the right who I know and love. So that’s what I wanted to say on that subject.

Kimmel gave Erika Kirk, Charlie’s widow, props for forgiving the suspect:

On Sunday, Erica Kirk forgave the man who shot her husband. She forgave him. That is an example we should follow. If you believe in the teachings of Jesus, as I do, there it was. That’s that’s that’s it a selfless act of grace forgiveness from a grieving widow. It touched me deeply, and it touches many, and if there’s anything we should take from this tragedy to carry forward, I hope it can be that, not this. So thank you for listening, and I’ll more say when we come back.

Aaaaaaaand then Kimmel brought on Robert DeNiro to act as the FCC chairman to explain free speech.

Again, Disney/ABC pulled Kimmel because of the false accusations due to consumer anger:

  • ABC station owners told Disney about their concerns with the comments
  • Advertisers called in about the comments
  • Nexstar and Sinclair threatened to preempt the show

It had nothing to do with the FCC comments.

I sold quite a bit of Disney stock yesterday…so tired of a company that governs by sticking its finger in the wind each day to see which way it’s blowing.

Lying schmuck. I’d like to see somebody punch that bi*ch in his lying mouth.

Jimmy Kimmel: “The MAGA gang [is] desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them.”

Also Jimmy Kimmel: “[it was not] my intention to blame any specific group for the actions of what it was obviously a deeply disturbed individual”

’nuff said.

What Jimmy said was true. What he didn’t say made his statement a lie by omission.
He should have said “MAGA and the Left were both desperately trying to characterize this kid…as anything other than one of their own.”
Then, by not stating the fact the MAGA won that contest, he reinforced his audience’s belief that the shooter was MAGA, as many liberals believe.
I understand he’s supposed to be a comedian and not a journalist, but what he didn’t say amounted to a smear against everyone MAGA, as he doubtless intended.

Disney is a dinosaur that hasn’t realized it’s dead yet.

Did Chuck you tell you say anything else puppet?

The only case where an apology can be not accepted is where you know he has nothing to apologize for.

An apology doesn’t compensate a wrong but indicates a new attitude. No ground to refuse it..

“A new attitude”. Kimmel? Surely you jest.

Dolce Far Niente in reply to rhhardin. | September 24, 2025 at 10:24 am

You can’t possibly be as naïve and credulous as your post. Or maybe you can; apparently many leftists are.

Have you ever heard of Erving Goffman? A sociologist who worked by irony back when there were books.

“A further illustration of the difference between ritual concerns and substantive ones comes from occasions of accident in which the carelessness of one individual is seen as causing injury or death to another. Here there may be no way at all to compensate the offended, and no punishment may be prescribed. All that the offend[er] can do is say he is sorry. And this expression itself may be relatively little open to gradation. The fact – at least in our society – is that a very limited set of ritual enactments are available for contrite offenders. Whether one runs over another’s sentence, time, dog, or body, one is more or less reduced to saying some variant of “I’m sorry.” The variation in degree of anguish expressed by the apologizer seems a poor reflection of the variation in loss possible to the offended. In any case, while the original infraction may be quite substantive in its consequence, the remedial work, however vociferous, is in these cases still largely expressive. And there is a logic to this. After an offense has occurred, the job of the offender is to show that it was not a fair expression of his attitude, or, when it evidently was, to show that he has changed his attitude to the rule that was violated. In the latter case, his job is to show that whatever happened before, he now has a right relationship – a pious attitude – to the rule in question, _and this is a matter of indicating a relationship, not compensating a loss_”

_Relations in Public_ “Remedial Interchanges” p.117-118

Its a false and a non apology..

You can always find a quote or example to support your case, even when you are wrong or miss the point. Kimmel knows what he did, he’s an agitator and he gets viewers who agree with his agenda. He shows no remorse because even if he felt it by verbalizing it he would lose his DeNiro-style street cred.

rhhardin in reply to WestRock. | September 24, 2025 at 6:23 pm

It’s not exactly found. It’s remembered at a distance of 40 years. You could do worse than read Erving Goffman. Start with Asylums.

    AF_Chief_Master_Sgt in reply to rhhardin. | September 24, 2025 at 5:49 pm

You would kiss the ass of your executioner just to make yourself feel better.

The facts show that it was recorded and is now a matter of record!!!!!!!

Jimmy’s ratings are going to get what the stock market calls,

“A dead cat bounce.”

That won’t last very long. He won’t be spicy enough for the Lefties and he is unlikely attract any new viewer from other parts of the populace.

He will be gone by next March; he has to be kept around long enough for this incident to fade from fresh memory and his cancellation to be obviously linkable to poor ratings.

So to paraphrase an old prison cliché,

“Cancelled Show Broadcasting”

IneedAhaircut in reply to Hodge. | September 24, 2025 at 3:26 pm

It’s my understanding that his contract is up at the end of December, so it may be difficult for Disney not to renew it.

The affiliate contracts for Nextar and Sinclair likely limit their ability to not run the show long-term. Typical contracts allow for the affiliates to drop shows for short periods of time, but otherwise they must renegotiate.

Behind the scenes there are going to be some epic legal battles over all of this.

That wasn’t an apology of any kind. ABC can continue to pay Kimmel to spew his propaganda because parents continue to spend money at Disney business units like the theme parks, cruises, resorts and buy subscriber services to profit-earners like ESPN (yes, ESPN generated $250M in profit on $4.85B in revenue in 2024) and D+ (which was profitable through the first two quarters of ’25, unbelievably). If parents stop doing that, Disney will change…maybe, eventually. But, so long as their revenue and EBITDA increases every year by 3-5% (or more), we’re going to keep getting more Kimmels.

Again, Disney/ABC pulled Kimmel because of the false accusations due to consumer anger:

ABC station owners told Disney about their concerns with the comments
Advertisers called in about the comments
Nexstar and Sinclair threatened to preempt the show

It had nothing to do with the FCC comments.

And this is precisely why the FCC chairman was wrong to make those comments. It gave the left room to blame his suspension on government censorship rather than admit that it had nothing to do with that and was due to consumers and advertisers being angry about his lies. When you have the power to ruin people you have to be careful what you say.

    agree

fcc shouldnt have said sh about this

      I agree with milhouse

there was a large decline in audience over the last 8-12 months.

Though I saw a report that the show was/is profitable (as opposed to Colbert’s show)
Does anyone have info on whether the show as profitable? (without any partisan bias in the response)

Fwiw – I have never watched his show and the single 30 sec clip that I saw was just him insulting the person with zero humor.

Ironman in reply to Milhouse. | September 24, 2025 at 3:27 pm

Susie Wiles needs to have a meeting with all of the senior leadership where she explains the Constitution and the importance of not saying stupid shit.

CaptTee in reply to Milhouse. | September 25, 2025 at 4:11 pm

    I agree.

The trend of his ratings was going to kill his show anyway, if no one had said anything.

destroycommunism | September 24, 2025 at 10:43 am

“it’s important to me as a human and that is, you understand that it was never my intention to make light of the of a young man. I don’t think there’s anything funny about it.”

so a guy they say is a nazi hateful pos was not to be savagely attacked by those who say those things about him and the rest who have the same maga agenda…….yeah,,,right

destroycommunism | September 24, 2025 at 10:46 am

so when cnn and the rest attacked that innocent wht kid nick sandmann

they really didnt want to but they were just sticking up for the (majority) minority ….all bs all the time from lefty

I’m not inclined to grant Mr. Kimmel the benefit of the doubt or any grace whatsoever.

He has spent decades sowing the wind and now he wants us to ignore those years of spewing (actual) hatred and welcome him back into our living rooms.

Or more accurately, your living room because I am not about to support him by watching.

Pound sand, Jimmy.

I don’t think the murderer who shot Charlie Kirk represents anyone.

That’s correct. He didn’t represent anyone.

He reacted.

He reacted to the endless drum beat of ‘the right is nazis’, the right is fascists’, ‘the right is racist, sexist, homophobic, islamophobic and every other ist and ism and phobia you idiots can dream up along with your insistence that it’s okay to attack and kill those kinds of people.

And you and your responded to murder with celebration. Millions of you.

And lies. Lies that you cared. Lies about the shooter and his motives. Lies about Charlie. Lie after lie after lie.

You help create that shooter, Jimmy. Deliberately.

DaveGinOly in reply to Azathoth. | September 24, 2025 at 12:06 pm

He did represent something – He represented the obvious (predicted, in fact) outcome of the Left’s constant smearing of Trump and MAGA. He did exactly what the Left expected. Not from the shooter in particular, but from someone, anyone, similarly turned into a weapon by the Left’s propaganda.

destroycommunism | September 24, 2025 at 11:29 am

kimmel basically spurring on violence against maga

if a man like ck is labeled as a far left ( despite the teachings of msm/schools) they are pushing for a war

Non apology not accepted. Jimmy, you are dead to me.

Kimmel is as funny as a toothache. Couple that with the fact that TV in general is dying, and the late-night format in particular is a huge ho-hum with the key demo (i.e. under 50s), he’s long overdue to get the (figurative) axe.

(The very fact that I essentially have to specify “figurative” is merely an indicator of how far down the crapper this society has gone, but that’s another story for another day.)

What a bunch of BS … freaking liar. Made false statements, violated the FCC agreement for use of spectrum and then wants to blame other because he’s a retarded leftist.

I doubt Kimmel’s monologue is going to convince Sinclair or Nexstar to reinstate his show and without DC, Austin, Seattle and Portland, he’s going to hemorrhage viewers.

Kimmel will get a ‘dead-cat bounce’ out of his show this week. He crafted the most dishonest, pathetic non-apology to go with his disgusting smear that got him kicked in the first place. He does not believe a word of what he said this week, and every word of what he said last week. The spiral of fiscal loss will not have a chance of getting a cork put into it until his show is replaced with something, *anything* that is not based of spewing mindless Trump hate and expecting magic money to pour in. Maybe even something that’s funny.

A parody of sincerity in Kimmel’s non apology and blatant refusal to admit his actions and offer even minimal atonement. Accountability is kryptonite to leftists and their ideological fellow travelers.

F that dirtbag is the politest I can come up with.

Lying Liar. You can tell his non-apology was disingenuous by his bring on of one the most TDS addled celebrities in existence – DeNutjob.

I gave up on watching any MSM and Fox the night of the 2020 election as they did not tell the truth. So I did not watch ABC and only see the clips of ABC pushing garbage. MSM and Fox are dying and it will be MSM dying first and quickly due to what they keep putting out. These corporate fools need to wake up to the people of America or they will die as people will give them up.

See if this attitude stays or he goes back to his former self.
Is it possible some kind of apology/ misrepresentation was a trade to get back?

Interested Party | September 24, 2025 at 4:51 pm

The problem is that the shooter doesn’t seem to tick any of the “deeply disturbed individual” boxes other than the standard left wing stuff and the decision to assassinate someone. Usually with mass shootings/murders the murderer is clearly nuts (like Trumps second wannabe assassin, the Minnesota murderer, Paul Pelosi’s attacker and Shapiro’s arsonist).

Kirk’s assassin seems to have made a conscious decision. That is so much worse.

Gremlin1974 in reply to Interested Party. | September 24, 2025 at 5:36 pm

To be honest we really don’t know that much about the assassin and his life, yet. Most Sociopaths are very charismatic and learn to act normal because they see that it gets them what they want.

Parents will always see the best in their child and will overlook many warning signs.

Until we know more about him, I don’t know that we can really say he doesn’t fit the profile.

Interested Party in reply to Gremlin1974. | September 24, 2025 at 9:18 pm

True. We’ve had info right from the start showing the others are insane though. Not Sociopaths but actually obviously mentally unwell. We certainly haven’t seen anything that justifies Kimmel’s position that he’s a “deeply disturbed individual” other than the assassination of course.

The best predictor of future behavior is past behavior. Jimmy Kimmel has proven repeatedly that he is a evil lying waste of carbon, water, and trace minerals.

I believe he is sorry he got slapped on the wrist, but he said exactly what he meant. When they show you who they really are believe them.

It seems like Kimmel is still trying to avoid responsibility for his words – Erika Kirk forgave her husband’s killer, I believe in Jesus, you should forgive me too.

Kimmel is also still spinning about the nature of the shooter – he’s gone from part of MAGA to independent nutjob, but he’s still refusing to accept the Leftist connection. He can’t smear the Right again, not immediately at least, but he can still protect the Left, and he is.

He lied about his lie.

Then offered up a replacement lie.

Typical liberal subhuman scum.

As expected.

Bottom line is that there is a minority faction of our society who love to hate.. Their political affiliations are varied and are irrelevant. There are more of them yammering and acting out on the Democrat/Progressive end of the spectrum right now now because this group has been losing conventional political power, and is even more unhappy about this than usual. This creates entrepreneurial opportunities for those willing to exploit them, and Kimmel is just one of the crowd of media/political figures shamelessly catering to them.

Again we should all be celebrating this total scumbag being permanently off the air thanks to him costing his network MILLIONS EVERY YEAR and the LOCAL AFFILIATES DEMANDING HE GOES AND REFUSING TO AIR HIM.

Instead Brendan Carr got selfish and made the decision IT IS ALL ABOUT MEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!! and violating the principles of free speech and so placing unlimited pressure on Disney to reverse itself.

This is an utter disgrace.

J.D. Vance has tried to make supreme moron and selfish idiot Brendan Carr disappear for good reason. Unfortunately Brendan Carr cost us a major victory.

Instead of being brought back together by Disney stepping away from scum like Jimmy Kimmel we are further than before.
