ABC Pulls Jimmy Kimmel Indefinitely Over Charlie Kirk Comments
Sinclair, the largest ABC affiliate group, will air a one-hour tribute to Kirk on Friday at 11:35 PM ET…Kimmel’s spot.
ABC, Disney, and primary broadcast affiliate Nexstar have pulled Jimmy Kimmel over his tasteless comments on Charlie Kirk’s assassination.
“Mr. Kimmel’s comments about the death of Mr. Kirk are offensive and insensitive at a critical time in our national political discourse, and we do not believe they reflect the spectrum of opinions, views, or values of the local communities in which we are located,” said Andrew Alford, President of Nexstar’s broadcasting division. “Continuing to give Mr. Kimmel a broadcast platform in the communities we serve is simply not in the public interest at the current time, and we have made the difficult decision to preempt his show in an effort to let cooler heads prevail as we move toward the resumption of respectful, constructive dialogue.”

This is the statement from Sinclair:

Kimmel came under fire for lying about suspect Tyler Robinson being a part of MAGA even after the evidence proved otherwise: “We had some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and with everything they can to score political points from it.”
Here is the footage that led to Jimmy Kimmel being cancelled. He falsely called the shooter MAGA and then did a whole joke routine about how Trump didn’t care about the killing.

FCC Chairman Brendan Carr threatened action against ABC, Disney and Kimmel. From Breitbart News:
“This is a very, very serious issue right now for Disney. We can do this the easy way or the hard way. These companies can find ways to take action on Kimmel or there is going to be additional work for the FCC ahead,” Carr told Benny Johnson.
“There are calls for Kimmel to be fired. I think you could certainly see a path forward for suspension over this,” he remarked.
Carr continued, “The FCC could make a strong argument that this is sort of an intentional effort to mislead the American people about a very core fundamental fact, a very important matter.”
“Disney needs to see some change here. But the individual licensed stations that are taking their content, it’s time for them to step up and say this, you know, garbage to the extent that that’s what comes down the pipe in the future isn’t something that we think serves the needs of our local communities,” Carr stated. “But this sort of status quo is obviously not, not acceptable where we are.”
Jennifer Sey, the woman behind the amazing clothing line XX-XY, reminded everyone how Kimmel treated people during COVID:
Jimmy Kimmel has been taken off the air. He made a statement calling Charlie Kirk’s assassin MAGA, which is provably false, even as stated by @nytimes.
The guy who said “rest in peace wheezy” during covid suggesting unvaxxed patients should be left to die, has finally gone too far. The tide has officially turned.

Consequence culture. Poetic justice for a self-inflicted wrong.
I suspect his ratings are such that ABC/Disney were happy to have a reason to yank him
Fact!
It was ABC that canceled the show. Not the government.
Free speech only applies to government action. Free speech has nothing to do with the decisions of companies, unless done for discriminatory reasons.
Jimmy Kimmel, a multimillionaire making a huge income will now be treated as a poor disadvantaged liberal hero.
The first amendment does not guarantee you a multi-million dollar salary, but the MSM will call him a martyr. and insist that Jimmy get governmental assistance–taken out of the mouths of the truly poor.
He joked about Tucker Carlson getting cancelled during the Biden Misadministration. Karma is a………you know.
And Roseanne….. His words then are his condemnation now.
“The Maga Gang desperately trying to characterise this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”
100% true. The misinformation is that he said something else.
Context is everything. You fail to see it. That’s on you. Because you’re the one spreading disinformation, just like Kimmel. Well done.
In fact, it was not true.
The MAGA Gang wasn’t “desperately trying to characterise (sic) this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them” because the known facts, at the time of Kimmel’s statement, had already shown he wasn’t “one of them.”
By implying that MAGA was trying to manufacture a false narrative, Kimmel was asserting that Robinson was, in fact, MAGA. A lie because the facts and evidence had already revealed he wasn’t.
That MAGA was attempting to distort the facts themselves (by making Robinson something he wasn’t – i.e. Left-aligned) is a smear of MAGA (as well as being a lie).
So, no, his statement was not “100% true.” It was largely false and already known to have been false. Kimmel realized that a sizable part of his audience were already ignorant of the facts and he was trying to reinforce that ignorance, as the dutiful Democrat mouthpiece that he is.
Your comment is reinforced by this:
“The plurality of Americans surveyed in a YouGov poll bought into the false narrative that the alleged assassin of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk is a Republican.”
https://dailycaller.com/2025/09/15/plurality-americans-lies-charlie-kirk-shooter/
In my 60 years of studying leftists, nothing has given me such comforting pleasure as Kimmel’s dismissal.
FAFO
Kimmel has reached the FO stage, and it ain’t pretty.
as the obama admin proved that “Words matter” and only poc were allowed to be racist all the way through the lefty run shutdown of america …( F the rest of the world) but america was that easily controlled to be shut down
and then to add on top of it ( where to begin)
the lies >>lawunfare against trump to the firings of non leftists including but not limited to the
military
medical fields
educational field
and on and on it went
it was no longer….wow we dont agree with maga ,,they ae to be fired etc
THAT was the genesis of the beginning of the actual war
add to the the rigging of the 2020 election
the non allowance to even have the ability to discuss/argue/debate that and sooo many other things
the attacks on the innocent je wish students culminating(??) in the murder of the not only innocent but far from being a bigot etc Charlie Kirk
f the left
let them know their street violence will hopefully be met by stronger forces aka police >>>>by any means necessary
thank you djt and the rest of your (mostly) brilliant cabinet members
magax100000000000
Oh he’ll be back unfortunately
Know do the View
Cancellation on the left,
Is now cancellation on the right
And the beards have all grown longer overnight.
I’ll tip my hat to the new Constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I’ll get on my knees and pray
We don’t get fooled again
Don’t get fooled again, no, no
Ideas should fail in the marketplace, not because of political pressure.
Kimmel will become the Tucker Carlson of the left. There is always a small audience for nutty ideas, and Kimmel will find a platform with paying subscribers.
It’s not really a win, if you think about it. Nobody’s mind is changed. Kimmel’s hardcore audience will seek out and find him.
I hear you, he spouted misinformation. And? The solution is to counter the lies persuasively. His lies are not going away, nor is he.
It’s not cancellation. False framing. He intentionally lied for the benefit of people that are cheering death. It’s a foreseeable consequence and well-deserved. Seems like his lie was countered persuasively by normal people especially sick of equivalencies when they are misplaced.
I think he wanted to be taken off in a spectacular fashion making himself a hero to his progressive set before he was canned as an afterthought for poor ratings. He was jealous of
Cobert who got more attention after being canned than prior when he has a show. Thus the unforced error guaranteeing his forced departure in the current climate.
Could be. Maybe he can do a gig with Howard Stern. Interesting that Corolla stayed true to himself.
Maybe, but I think you’re giving him too much credit. These celebrities aren’t very bright and they live in bubbles of leftism where such lies and cruel jokes circulate. Can you imagine Kimmel’s writer’s room when Kirk’s death was announced? You just know they were popping champagne and competing with each other to see who could write the most savage jokes, one that tven they knew would never make it to air.
Apparently he’s “livid” about it.
https://nypost.com/2025/09/17/entertainment/jimmy-kimmel-f-king-livid-over-abc-pulling-live-report/
Good.
“The solution is to counter the lies persuasively.”
But the counterer needs an airtime slot.
Hey, whaddya know, Kimmel’s is opening up!
Networks and producers of television programs are under no obligation to give air time to hateful liars. They wouldn’t give a platform to David Duke, why should they give one to Jimmy Kimmel? Kimmel had become nothing but a mouthpiece for the Democrat party, along with most other late-night hosts. They’re not due the platform – it can be yanked from them at any time. It’s likely that some content producers were looking for an excuse to pull the plug on some of them, and they were stupid enough to give them cause to do so.
This is not an improbable reason for why Kimmel was given the heave-ho. Disney just decided to cut their losses now rather than later. Win some brownie points with the normies who were probably starting to get tired of the 24/7 anti-MAGA hate and who would prefer to watch someone who is actually funny.
So you think ABC, a private entity, should be required to endorse his speech and pay him for it?
Help me out here lawyers, but did Kimmel’s comments meet the criteria for slander? At the very least his comments set ABC up for lawsuit. I hear there are lots of lawsuits coming. I don’t think he will be the Tucker of the left. most of Kimmel’s stuff comes from others. Not a man of original thought or investigative journalism. Few minds will be changed at present but fewer minds will be exposed to his drivel in the future. I agree “The solution is to counter the lies persuasively.” that was Charlie’s super power
He was fired by his employer.
Who Are You?
Kimmel has been an after thought for years. Saying exceptionally awful things for years to get noticed. Well FAFO has caught him. Well..Bye Jimmy. You can always go back to wearing black face and watching girls jump on trampolines. Ziggy Zaggy Ziggy Zaggy OHY OHY OHY
the left had no care that fjb and crew threatened fb and other social media to do more…you’re not doing enough not to mention the clear lefty wing bias
and the fear of blmplo….
you want to win this war???
then we neutralize the lefts ability to manipulate us into a fetal position
and if we can get back to normal disagreements …loud yelling ..snarky remarks etc…great
I’ll take it
otherwise,, we cant play the guilt game
oh…we’re not suppose to do that ..we’re suppose turn the other cheek
that will get us turned into a slaves ….
thats a no-go zone !!
Two wrongs dont make a right. Its simply becomes a vicious cycle of vindictiveness.
What inevitably happens in a cycle of political gotchaism is that the tides turn and the other side comes to power.
My advice is to get your revenge in early. After midterms, it’s not likely that the GOP will control all three chambers.
You are wrong in this case
This just can’t go on and the left has cancelled us for decades!
They even had banks refuse to do business with the very successful Trump business
They deserve everything happening to them
And more
So do what I do. Don’t watch.
Latetia James antics in New York did more to elect Trump than any of his campaign donations. Say thank you may I please have two more like her. Give that woman a megaphone. Now New York gets Mamdani, which will be a boon to the fast-growing financial sector in Charlotte. I don’t want to cancel Mamdami. I want to see his face everywhere saying he will arrest Netanyahu, maybe the onlyperson on the planet he would arrest.
The wheel of cancellation only boomerangs.
Easy to say you want two more Letitia James when you are not the one in the dock. In any event, there are plenty of Kimmels, such that his loss will not create a vacuum. There is a qualitative difference in the cancel culture and accountability for wrongful conduct. Are you really unable to distinguish what has occurred. The true cancellers now make it about life and death.
I never watched Kimmel.
Didn’t make a difference.
This made a difference.
‘Do what I do. Don’t watch’ That’s what the affiliate station owners are doing here, making a decision based on their judgment as to whether this show should be viewed.
The unaddressed portion of your very outdated late ’90s early 00’s advice relates to the constant drumbeat in legacy media and from network personalities that seeks to indoctrinate. They push partisan propaganda, often it seems from d/prog press releases.
Constantly vilifying, dehumanizing their political opponents has contributed to a culture where a majority of d/prog claim violence is justified against those with opposing views. That’s from a poll this month.
Kimmel shouldn’t be prevented FROM speaking but he isn’t entitled to use the platform of his employer to do so nor to be rebroadcast from affiliate stations. He can go tweet into the void, launch a podcast, write letters to the editor, heck he could come and post comments here.
Sticking your head in the sand is not a solution.
dont watch?????
were not talking about tv shows
thats not the real world as I posted about
“The wheel of cancellation only boomerangs.”
Did you say this to the Left, like, 12 years ago? Probably not. You’re acting as if this is the first time this has happened (if we accept your premise that there is an equivalence between what is happening now and “cancel culture”).
Newsflash: That “boomerang”? That’s what were observing now. It’s not something coming in retaliation in the future. You really should have issued your warning years ago. Kimmel might still have a show.
Not two wrongs. Where have you been the last decade?
It’s not ‘two wrongs’.
It’s playing by the new rules they demanded be established.
They got a police officer fired for anonymously donating $25 to Kyle Rittenhouse’s defense fund.
Conservatives are through pretending that the old rules are still in effect.
Have you missed the last two decades where the left attacks and the right turns the other cheek and bows down? Do you really believe that was beneficial to society? Did it get votes for republicans or did it make republicans look weak and emasculated? One side constantly submitting to thuggish behavior? Well, it’s no longer being tolerated, the pendulum is swinging back, and I for one, am here for it.
Muh Principles!
Payback is a bitch.
That’s not what he said. He said “anything but MAGA” which is not the same thing as that he is MAGA. What he said is bald truth. MAGA is exploiting the death for political gain and to collect scalps.
You would be wrong
Contort at your pleasure. Why was it a new low? Scoring political points? That is the “bald truth?” If the ghouls would keep their mouths shut and not celebrate or act like he deserved it or brought it on themselves, then there would be no outcry or consequences. You sound like Kimmel.
In what way was anything Kimmel said a celebration?
False premise. You misread what was written. Kimmel was speaking to the ghouls to reinforce the animus they share. It’s evident. It is a custom and practice.
Truly I am outmatched by lawyerly wit! “A custom and practice”… like Christmas? What are you even talking about? Quote the part for which a reasonable individual would say, “this guy deserves to be fired for saying that.”
Being obnoxious gets you nowhere. A reasonable person would see the entirety of what he said, in context, based on his history. You have to be a reasonable person to understand, not an obnoxious one.
You understand that the clip is actually above, right?
He said ‘the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murderedCharlie Kirk as anything other than one of them’.
Say that in court and literally everybody understands you are making a statement of fact that he is MAGA.
This is a blog of lawyers, nobody is impressed with your weak gaslighting here.
Ooh, are you a lawyer? Fancy! How many little ol’ ladies did you rob of their savings this week?
Weak response. Kimmel was quite clear. Why so hard to acknowledge? Most people see it for what it is. It’s not like he’s been down the middle for years. Would not be surprised if he was one of those that cheered inside.
Ah, you wouldn’t be surprised… but you don’t know? So is he being fired for assumptions people like you make about him or for something he demonstrably said?
Did not pretend to know. Nor do you. But Kimmel hates the other side and he lied. Or do you want to dispute that, too?
I don’t watch the guy typically. I just like freedom of speech. Do I dispute whom or what he hates? I don’t know whom he hates, if anyone. Why should it matter? There’s nothing there he said in that clip that any reasonable person would characterize as offensive to anyone but the most thin-skinned.
Disputing a claim is not lying. It’s just a difference of opinion. The hate is all yours.
Who cares if you watch him or not? It’s not a freedom of speech issue. Not one bit! For someone that likes freedom of speech, you might learn what it actually is. Nor are you the only one that likes freedom of speech. Some of us more than “like” it. Pretend that only you care about it here is quite silly. Finally, your absolute assertion about reasonableness is NONSENSE. It is only your opinion and a rather flimsy one at that.
Are you seriously going to claim to be some great lover of freedom of speech while celebrating cancel culture? Pick a side: freedom or unfreedom. And while you’re at it, tell me what Jimmy Kimmel did personally to deserve cancellation. Did he participate in cancel culture in earlier years? Or is he just a part of “they” – those ever-deserving-of-punishment other people?
Care more about it than you, in words and deed, and forgot more about it than you know. That is obvious. You sound more like the pretender here. Never celebrated cancel culture, either. That is such a dumb, deceptive remark. This is not cancel culture, which you have no conception about, if you compare this to what happened to normal people for years. You have no clue. It’s ridiculous to consider termination of an employee for cause to be cancelling. He will not be at the unemployment office tomorrow. Far from it. A free speech champ in your eyes? Guess you have no belief in consequences or accountability. How reasonable of you.
Casualt not quite bright enough to understand the difference between free speech and garbage for profit/fondling leftist bums for attention.
Does ABC have freedom of speech to not endorse and promote Kimmel’s speech on their dime?
We actually have more information now. It’s pretty clear that Trump directed this. He said he thinks late night comedians don’t get to attack him if that’s all they do. That is at best a resurrection of the fairness doctrine, but only for one side.
It’s all indefensible. This is about suppressing speech. Well, I’m not going to be the government’s good little boy. You have that choice to make though.
Kimmel didn’t have to spell it out. He was reinforcing a misperception (that Robinson is like the rest of his family, very conservative) that he knows much of the country, and probably a sizable portion of his viewers, already have. He was reinforcing a lie. He’s entitled to his own opinions, he’s not entitled to his own facts. If he’s using his show to peddle political lies, that’s not what he’s paid for. He’s paid to be funny, and he ceased being funny a long time ago. His paymasters were under no obligation to not cancel his show. They had good economic reasons for doing to. Kimmel’s job was not just to make money for his employers, it was also to maintain good relations with the public, and his conduct reflects upon his employers. His lying was damaging the reputation of his employers. What employer should tolerate an employee who does that?
What are you doing?
Defending free speech.
If your position had any merit, you wouldn’t have to resort to personal insults.
If your position had any merit, you wouldn’t have to threaten someone by calling up their employer. This is kind of petty tyranny is a sign of weakness – not right now, but someday your guys will be out of power.
Were you dropped on your head recently?
If so, you may be entitled to compensation.
Is there a lawyer in the house? 😉
Todays troll.
Jimmuh is that you?
Nah, my only account here. Never had a different one. And yeah, I’ll be a troll to those who deserve trolling.
“Ooh, are you a lawyer? Fancy! How many little ol’ ladies did you rob of their savings this week?”
I wouldn’t count on any longevity. You contribute nothing of value here.
So you’re going to troll yourself?
Sad sad little man.
Try harder. We are used to a better class of troll in here.
And those trolls don’t survive.
Anyone seen TDS1516, JR, and many other trolls lately?
We’re not your typical audience of leftists so we are capable of actually researching issues and seeing for ourselves what went down:
“The Maga Gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”
He’s literally declaring that Tyler Robinson IS MAGA. The right didn’t cause his death and the MAGA movement sure as fuck doesn’t profit from losing one if it’s best known (world wide) and reasonable voices.
Now apologize for lying and stop being so deceitful in the future.
I’m sorry, but your reading comprehension (or skill at Boolean logic) is deficient. Try again.
No. THIS is what he said, liar:
“We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it.”
He was flat-out claiming that the murderer was MAGA, something evident to anyone who comprehends even basic English. You’re actually repeating Kimmel’s claim by saying we want to “collect scalps.”
Understand this, troll: WE’RE PISSED. This isn’t some political game. A leftist, worked up by years of political propaganda claiming that conservatives were fascists, murdered one of the most prominent voices on the right.
The left declared war, not only with the murder but with its celebration of it. We’re not going to riot or be violent or any of that useless and morally bankrupt rot. Instead we’re going to BREAK the left. Shut down its web of financing networks, round up its rioters, destroy its media enablers through boycotts, and make sure there are consequences for anyone publicly celebrating murder.
You’re pissed, huh? Well, facts don’t care about your feelings. Jimmy Kimmel didn’t shoot anyone or even celebrate violence. At worst, he said something a little inaccurate at a time when it was even less obvious than it is at the moment what motived Robinson. Sometimes people says things that are incorrect. It’s not the government’s job to police wrong-think.
“The left” didn’t declare war. “The left” isn’t even a thing – it’s a category you’ve made up to attack people who had nothing to do with the murder of Kirk.
By saying MAGA was trying to change the narrative (to make a Lefty of Robinson), Kimmel was implying the facts of the situation supported the opposite, i.e., that Robinson wasn’t a Lefty and was MAGA. This was both a slur of MAGA (both that MAGA was trying to alter the narrative to something that was untrue and that the the shooter was, in fact, aligned with MAGA) and reinforcement of the actual lie that the shooter was conservative (like the rest of his family).
If Kimmel had merely lied and said straight-up that Robinson wasn’t Left-aligned, that would not have implied he was MAGA. But by stating that MAGA found it necessary to alter the narrative so the shooter was “anything but MAGA” strongly implies the shooter’s association was with MAGA.
There are only two sets of association – the first is any group other than MAGA, leaving MAGA alone in the second group. Asserting that MAGA was trying trying to create a false narrative to fit the shooter into the first set implies that the shooter was, in fact, associated with the other set (MAGA). So, yeah, Kimmel was lying about the shooter and about MAGA.
No he said it was MAGA. Read the room. Utterly bizarre that he made this claim AFTER the police conference where the police said that the assassin had become a radical leftist who hated Charlie Kirk’s conservative views.
Just listened to it again. You’re wrong. That’s not what he said. In any case, welcome to cancel culture, comrade!
Happy to be here. Alinsky Rule 4 is a two-edged sword, Binky.
The brain can be led to the truth, but in your case, the brain doesn’t drink it.
I posted it elsewhere, and I’ll repost it here:
I have to say, I am gratified by the number of commenters we’ve never seen before showing up at this time to tell us what our principles demand we do.
Clearly, it’s panic time in blue country.
Yes. The government is suppressing speech it does not approve of. That’s panic time! That’s bad!
If your principles are for freedom broadly and freedom of speech specifically, then you should oppose this.
How loud were you screaming through the COVID cancellation years, casuistry?
Because we didn’t hear you.
Honestly I think this is just ABC using it as an excuse to cut off another failing money pit of a show.
Kimmel has horrific viewers, doesn’t make money, and nobody cares about his show, but he has a contract.
I think this is just ABC cynically exploiting it to get out of the contract.
Highly likely.
100%..I would guess that the affiliates were complaining about not being able to sell their local allotment of advertising.
The same people who spent 4 years suppressing free speech, censoring online chats and arresting people for memes – the ones who told us only dictators want free speech
are now pretending to be free speech advocates
lolz
Don’t forget pressuring banks and credit card companies to refuse to allow them to have bank accounts or credit cards if they disagree with what they do politically.
It is about time corporate America ceased being the welfare funder for leftists of no talent.
I am glad that although his costing them tens of millions wasn’t enough to destroy him his exposing himself as a ghoul who was costing them tens of millions of dollars did.
Sorry but I disagree with a lot of these comments. It’s not an issue of “cancellation” nor free speech assertion but rather a violation of the broadcast license and terms of use:
“ Hoaxes. The broadcast by a station of false information concerning a crime or catastrophe violates the FCC’s rules if:
*The station licensee knew that the information was false;
*Broadcasting the false information directly causes substantial public harm; and
*It was foreseeable that broadcasting the false information would cause such harm.”
High time these rules are enforced. The station owners know it and objected but the network didn’t and demonstrates clear bias and intent. The icing on this story is that this is Disney that is promoting this rot.
They can’t do it selectively.
So what do think they should do — fire some of their conservative comedians too? Yeah, I don’t want to be the patsy running THAT search committee.
They have been doing it selectively for a long, long time g time.
The left broke that rule when they selectively attacked the right. Mortgage fraud attacks on Trump sure came back to haunt them 😉
Of course they can lol
Action to enforce any law or rule is often at the discretion of the enforcing authority. When there are so many lies, what is the authority to do? Prosecute all? None? How about abiding by a selection criteria, say, egregious violations? Slap one of them down now and then and that will help others know better where the border is.
The correction for speech is more speech. Who said that? It might be Kirk-like, in his better moods.
Us? We’re just freeing more time slots for that more speech.
And Kimmel can go on speaking. ANC just doesn’t have to provide him with their air time to do it. They aren’t required to hand him a megaphone.
No one has taken Kimmel’s right to free speech away. He is free to say what he wants where he wants how he wants as long as he wants.
But the broadcaster, the owner of individual stations, the syndicated stations, and everyone else has no obligation to air it.
So, Sinclair rightfully understood that Kimmel’s continuous hatred caused the company viewership, and because their stations weren’t in NY, LA, and other blue areas, they felt compelled to not air that show.
They didn’t cancel it or take away Kimmel’s free speech.
That decision by Sinclair forced ABC to look at what they were spewing through their conglomerate, and realized the world has changed. The citizens are no longer going to accept this nonsense. So they canceled the show.
No one took away Kimmel’s free speech.
Also, ABC is looking at a major merger that needed the FCC approval. They understood that Kimmel jeopardizes that merger approval.
No one took away Kimmel’s right to free speech.
But I guess you were OK when Obama and Biden used the government agencies to censor the right, but now that we the people are holding the government accountable your va jay jay dries up and dust poofs out.
The correction for slanderous speech is not more slanderous speech.
Are you arguing that broadcasters MUST offer ‘equal time’? Are you arguing that the political affiliation and/or public policy philosophy among network talking heads and news/opinion must be equally balanced?
If not then you’re making a bad faith argument within the context of affiliate stations telling the network they wouldn’t carry Kimmel, the FCC assertion of its long-standing authority to intervene ‘in public interest’ and the network decision to toss Kimmel. Kirk argued for more opportunities to engage by the center/right in lefty/wokiesta dominated environments to combat/refute the lefty propaganda.
Offering up pious platitudes without any context or discernment to see if they fit the situation won’t advance the debate.
Maybe HIS goldfish can console him.
If he gets depressed, maybe he’ll put the weight back on, from back when he was funny.
He can always go back to abusing women in skimpy outfits bouncing their tits while jumping on a trampoline.
I wonder if black face is still a thing.
Those women bounced willingly and were paid well for that public service 😉
I am OK with them getting paid for that.
But I don’t think there is a market for that after the greatest Cancel Culture Committee put a stop to it.
#MeToo.
“Pound Me Too!”
Kimmel and Corolla had a funny show. But I found the “girls on trampolines” embarrassing. The fact that it was at the end of every show (as they had promised from the beginning) only made the bit unfunny over time, if it was ever funny.
It sounds to me like the FCC is doing programming under threat of loss of license.
And people are cheering.
It’s like the celebration of trans identity only on the other foot.
You mean there finally is another foot? Inconceivable!
The thing about feelings and direct action is perverse consequences. All the problems that respond well to direct action have long ago been solved. What’s left is problems that respond to direct action with perverse consequences.
Mostly the left is concerned with feelings and direct action, and mostly the right is concerned with perverse consequences. Call it the stability of the system.
Women are bad running big systems because of the instability problem. They’re good at small systems like neighborhoods because stability doesn’t come up. You can do what you want and life goes on.
The Founding Fathers were structure guys, not feelings guys. Structure and collapse is the issue with the FCC doing programming for its license holders.
Wow – sexist much. Just short of saying they belong pregnant in a kitchen
If there wasn’t such a thing as free speech, you would be canceled already.
Wrong.
Meh, public interest is a political question. Today the pendulum has swung in one direction and the use of long standing discretionary powers by the FCC is not objectionable. If you do object, kindly list out every instance in the use of this power and a public condemnation you made contemporaneous to it to convince us you ain’t a hypocrite or a troll.
Give an unfunny untalented clueless clod a TV show, fill the audience with brainwashed leftists, and you get the Jimmy Kimmel show.
Well… not anymore.
Is it too early to say that Kimmel was canceled by his own side?
RIP.
Same people:
Kimmel fired: this is outrageous, what about free speech?!
Kirk murdered: yeah well he said bad things.
Sad.
He was funny once upon a time. He’s trending into Kathy G’s zip code.
Makes Jay Leno look like a hero for keeping a cool head about politics.
Professor Jacobson, now would be a great time to do a post on freedom of speech, it’s limitations, definitions of slander, libel, and incitement. My perception is the left has long abused the right, I fear we on the right might slip that way also, though I don’t see it at present.
There’s (Vicki) Hearne’s Law: whenever there’s a stink in the media about something, it’s because some politician or charity wants a stink about it in the media.
The Kirk explosion qualifies as a stink. Look for who benefits.
We shouldn’t be irate over political assassinations? Idiocy
Irate doesn’t do any good, except giving you a dopamine hit. It feels good, doesn’t it.
You’re wrong. Being irate over a murder (and a political one at that) is perfectly appropriate and rational. (It’s rational because general opprobrium against murder and murderers sends the message the murder isn’t acceptable in civilized societies. This consensus discourages murder, or at least sends an appropriate message.) Being irate (esp. to the point of becoming violent) over being “misgendered,” or for violation of other “rules” (that don’t define crimes) imposed by protected or elite groups, is not rational and does not promote civility.
Until the bullet rolls through your neck, and then it becomes personal, huh?
Assassination left unchecked allows assassins to believe they have a free ticket to assassinate.
Public outrage and scorn sets the bar for what is acceptable.
Some how I get the impression that you either live in a bubble or are so heavily medicated in an institution that you lack awareness.
“ABC, Disney, and primary broadcast affiliate Nexstar”
You mean, the same people that just a few months ago were hellbent pushing D.I.E, trans ideology and cancel culture?
They must have taken a second read on those tea leaves, apparently.
I will not give them too much credit though. This is purely a business decision and they will go back to their old ways if the tea leaves again tell them that the party of hate will be back in power.
The good news is that they can see the disarray in the hate party, and they are likely predicting more
RepublicanMAGA wins.Maybe the tides are actually turning.
I wonder if this has anything to do with the lawsuits and settlements of late?
Networks are starting to understand that they can’t just allow their employees to lie to our faces without consequence?
One can hope.
Nobody is taking away Jimmy Kimmel’s right to freedom of speech. He was free to say what he did the other night, and he’s still free to say whatever he wants, he’ll just have to say it somewhere else.
No company is obliged to maintain the employment of an associate or employee who brings disrepute to that companies name and brand. He went on national TV and blatantly lied about a brutal murder in order to deflect blame from the ideologically violent political party to which he belongs.
Sounds like a fireable offense to me.
It’s amazing how the left tries to justify some of this stuff. I gave up cable a long time ago, and have several free streaming sites I use for the few shows I still watch, and there is this one, which has a comments section, I rarely comment, but I do notice a lot of them, and most of the people there have a VERY liberal bent, and they love South Park, and one commenter there just said something like ‘everyone on the right has been doing all they can to blame the left for Kirks murder, and it’s working, and Kimmel just got cancelled for saying some truthful but yet tame stuff, yet Fox news pundits can say things like ‘just kill them’ about homeless people and it’s all good.
These are the kinds of lies I see all the time from these people, as they are lacking in self awareness, and the crap they are spewing is coming from the propaganda they are getting spoon fed, and it seems to me they are all totally unable to do even the smallest amount of research on their own to fact check anything….
Blah blah blah blah “Must Defend Freedom of Speech!!” Blah blah blah
Same boring arguments. Kimmel is free to say whatever nastiness he wants. However, he is not entitled to do so on a microphone provided at someone else’s expense.
Some comedians would playfully attack politicians from both parties in a non-vicious manner – Carson, Leno, Letterman, O’Brien. These were the best. Kimmel [probably related to Himmel] was a biased, one-sided vicious attack dog who spewed venom for the democrats. That piece of shit should never be allowed back on the air again. I wonder if he has any feelings for his staff that will now lose their jobs, too.
From a post on X:
Roseanne Barr – Fired by ABC/Disney and her hit show Roseanne canceled overnight in 2018 after one tweet. Hundreds of cast and crew lost their jobs.
Gina Carano – Fired from The Mandalorian in 2021 for social media posts that didn’t fit the Left’s politics. Dropped by her agency too.
Megyn Kelly – Fired by NBC in 2018, her morning show canceled after comments about Halloween costumes.
Dave Chappelle – Netflix employees staged a walkout and demanded his comedy special be pulled for “transphobia.” The Left tried hard to cancel him.
Joe Rogan – The Left pressured Spotify to drop him, running coordinated campaigns and advertiser boycotts over COVID discussions.
Tucker Carlson – Taken off Fox News in 2023. Liberal activists bragged about advertiser pressure campaigns that helped force him out, costing thousands of downstream jobs.
Parler – Apple, Google, and Amazon colluded in 2021 to wipe the entire platform off the internet. Tens of thousands of small creators and businesses lost income overnight.
J.K. Rowling – Blacklisted from events, attacked by activists, and pressured out of projects for speaking her mind.
Mike Lindell – MyPillow pulled from major retailers, banned from Twitter, and targeted with advertiser boycotts.
Alex Jones – Simultaneously banned in 2018 by YouTube, Facebook, Apple, and Spotify. Coordinated erasure celebrated as a model for censorship.
Patterns are clear:
Coordinated advertiser boycotts.
Public celebrations of people losing jobs and businesses.
Two sets of rules — the Left can lie (Russia hoax, Covington kids smear, Jussie Smollett, etc.) and laugh about it, but the Right gets destroyed.
Accountability only ever goes one way. The Left has spent the last decade perfecting cancel culture, destroying jobs, nuking shows, wiping platforms off the internet, and laughing while people’s lives were ruined. But sure… Jimmy Kimmel smugly lying about a political assassination? Totally fine.
I only rarely save reader comments. This one is a keeper.
Me too.
Though I’m going to add at the end:
Jimmy Kimmel: cancelled by his own network’s exeutives. Boo f*g hoo.
It took them over 20 years to realize that he wasn’t a comedian.
OUTSTANDING!!!!
I miss girls on trampolines… 🙂
I miss the juggies, the Fox, the man show boy.
I miss when Kimmel and Corolla made fun of the woke asses Kimmel has become.
The idea that “Tyler Robinson is MAGA” is a left wing conspiracy theory.
“Trump made ABC suspend/fire Jimmy Kimmel” is also a left wing conspiracy theory. There is no proof to support this theory.
