The only reason I can think of for them to do something like this, is that they are following the left’s hatred of Israel.

The Washington Free Beacon reports:

Largest Teachers’ Union in United States Erases Jews From the Holocaust

The nation’s largest teachers’ union plans to promote a version of Holocaust remembrance that does not mention Jews, according to its 2025 handbook, which references “victims of the Holocaust from different faiths” and teaches that Israel was founded through “forced, violent displacement and dispossession,” its most recent guide for members shows.

The National Education Association, which represents nearly three million public school teachers and education workers, outlined the priorities in its 2025 handbook. The NEA publishes the document each year as a guide on the group’s priorities and strategic goals for the association’s national and state leaders, staff, and members. It includes the NEA’s bylaws and is updated with any new resolutions and policy positions the union has endorsed.

The news comes amid a surge in both anti-Semitism and anti-Israel extremism at public schools and within teachers’ unions themselves. The NEA Representative Assembly—the union’s parliamentary body—passed a resolution to boycott the Anti-Defamation League’s Holocaust education materials earlier this month, a vote the union’s leadership rejected.

The NEA handbook, though, indicates that union leadership does back the extremist anti-Israel and anti-Jewish positions of many of its members.

The handbook says the union will “promote the celebration of International Holocaust Remembrance Day” by “recognizing more than 12 million victims of the Holocaust from different faiths, ethnicities, races, political beliefs, genders, and gender identification, abilities/disabilities, and other targeted characteristics.” The description does not mention the attempted extermination of the Jewish people by the Nazis.

The book does, however, give a lengthy description of its plans to “educate members and the general public about the history of the Palestinian Nakba,” while presenting a skewed version of Israel’s founding that demonizes the Jewish state.

The handbook actually used word “celebration”? It should be “commemoration”.

Freudian slip by the teacher union reflecting bias? Why do they have authority to control content?

It’s a legitimate use of “celebrate”. The first definition at dictionary.com is “to observe (a day) or commemorate (an event) with ceremonies or festivities”. First recorded in 1425–75; late Middle English, from Latin celebrātus, past participle of celebrāre “to solemnize, celebrate, honor,”

M-W has as its second definition, “to honor (an occasion, such as a holiday) especially by solemn ceremonies or by refraining from ordinary business. ‘The nation celebrates Memorial Day.'”

Technically correct. But given the meaning of the word in practically all modern-day usage, your comment borders on pedantic.

There’s no reason to let modern-day scolds denature a perfectly beautiful and expressive language. I myself recently advised Democrats to “rape their children’s trust funds” to fund PBS, despite a similar archaism, because it was the perfect word to accompany their TDS.

The dictionaries reflect modern usage. First definition means it’s the most common definition.

The connotation between celebrate and commemorate are different. Celebration indicates joy fullness; commemorate, memory. So I have to disagree with you on this one.

and the union will also change the following narrative:

allll victims of any crime are poc

as whites cant be victims b/c they are colonizers

and any suspects that are poc were railroaded by the colonizers

HOW LONG UNTIL SOME GOP WAKE THE F UP and stop funding these mental institutions aka public schools!!!?!!!

Fat black women run the NEA along with one white male simp. No surprise here. They must be so happy they can engage in their antisemitism so openly now.

The handbook gives a goofy impression that the Holocaust was a rainbow affair following current DEI guidelines. It not only erases the key detail of the genocide of Jews, but also erases the perpetrators. The Holocaust is universalized as a vague, general atrocity which must be taught to avoid future atrocities.

Such as, on the same page in the handbook, a detailed discussion that it is essential to teach that the state of Israel is a catastrophe for Palestinians and another discussion of teaching the ‘difference’ between antisemitism and Antizionism. Also, a discussion about celebrating several Muslim holidays.

On the next page there is a discussion of using all NEA media outlets to defend educators and students academic freedom and free speech in defense of Palestine in k-12 through university.

If one were to have just landed on earth and only read the NEA handbook, one might be left with the impression that the perpetrators of all the bad things are Zionists.

Yet, their own ‘screening out hate’ antisemitism checklist includes items such as holocaust denial, holocaust inversion, Jewish erasure, blood libel, denying Jews the right to self determination, denying that Jewish are indigenous to the land of Israel, scapegoating etc, etc.

The Polish communist government did the same thing, inflating the number of people killed at Auschwitz by adding over a million fictitious Poles, so as to make it not have been about the Jews.

So do those who do acknowledge the Jews but make the Holocaust be about so much more than them, by putting disproportionate focus on other people whom the Nazis also killed.

For instance gay men. Yes, some small number of gay men (not lesbians or any of the rest of the alphabet) ended up at Auschwitz, and some small number of them were killed there, but proportionately out of a whole museum that deserves a broom closet. The Holocaust was not about them, they were just caught up in it.

Even the Gypsies were an afterthought; the Germans figured if they were killing Jews anyway they might as well solve the Gypsy “problem” at the same time. Which was devastating for the Gypsies, but it still wasn’t about them.

    George_Kaplan in reply to Milhouse. | July 30, 2025 at 11:17 pm

The Holocaust refers to the Jewish genocide, but I believe they actually started earlier in their handling of the ‘Gypsy Problem’. That may have been rounding them up and sending them to camps rather than killing them though – I can’t recall the details offhand.

CincyJan in reply to Milhouse. | July 31, 2025 at 9:55 am

I always accepted as true that approx. 6 million Jews were killed in the camps, but that 11 million overall had been killed. The Germans kept awfully good records, so I assumed that figure was accurate. I believed the extra 5 million were an assortment of political enemies, homosexuals, gypsies, asylum residents, and even Slavs.

A review of the number of Jews in Europe both pre and post WWII is stunning. The whole Yiddish population of the Russian Pale is gone, with only a few survivors in the Brooklyn, I think. The Germans excelled at killing the unarmed. Which is why Israel is so important.

Have you written to the local Republican State House member about the issue of teachers unions and indoctrination?

If not why not? You do realize they get around 10-15 emails or letters from constituents per month right?

Danny in reply to Danny. | July 30, 2025 at 10:25 pm

The reason for the question is erasing Jews from the Holocaust is highly offensive to good Republicans and letting the state house member know you are mad at the teachers union over this goes a long way to fixing the issue.

If all we could do is influence from the outside that is what we have to do.

George_Kaplan | July 30, 2025 at 11:05 pm

Obviously NEA stands for Nazi Education Association.

They celebrate the Holocaust, pretend Jews weren’t negatively impacted, only concern themselves with non-Jewish victims of the Holocaust, and rewrite the restoration of Israel nearly 2,000 years after its forced, violent displacement and dispossession by the Roman Empire. Instead they side with the settler-colonist Arabs now occupying Gaza and the West Bank.

Haters can’t help themselves but this level of hate should not be tolerated by government. If you want to be a bigot, find another profession! Children should be safe from these kinds.

The National Education Association needs to be disbanded. They are a clear and present danger to our young people.

ztakddot in reply to gourdhead. | July 31, 2025 at 1:51 pm

All unions for government jobs should be disbanded period. Unions are political entities first and there is no place for political organization of government workers in this country. Even Roosevelt was against it.

The current president has determined that Jew hatred is unacceptable behavior in a civilized successful society. He talks the talk and walks the walk. What the NEA, Hamas kids, and others are doing is in response to President Trumps pro Jewish/Israel policies, and empty of any intellectual honesty.

It is up to local school boards to set the curriculum for their school districts, not a union. This is not up to a union. If the unions start deciding what and how anything is taught, I suggest it is up to local school boards to decide if teachers following union curriculum vs local curriculum remain employed by the district or if the union is even recognized. Yeah, it could get very nasty and expensive but limits must be drawn.

A union might be involved in wages and benefits of employees of an organization but not policy or procedures.. The teachers union has no business establishing curriculum. Curriculum should be determined by the local school board or education department. Teachers unions weildvso much power because of money they put into local political campaigns. That $ needs to be controlled. Parents need to play a bigger role in curriculum. Selection. Unions. Are not subject matter experts.
