ABC7 Seems to Have Trouble Connecting the Word Gun to a Protester at CA ICE Raid
Gavin Newsom: “Kids running from tear gas, crying on the phone because their mother was just taken from the fields. Trump calls me “Newscum” — but he’s the real scum.”
An immigration enforcement operation (conducted by ICE and the National Guard) on Glass House Farms, a massive cannabis farm near Camarillo, California, on Thursday quickly descended into chaos. As military vehicles arrived at the site, anti-ICE protesters were seen trying to block their path, jam their tires with Mexican flags, and smash their windows with flagpoles.
As the vehicles continued to advance, a reporter noted that “water or something else” was being thrown at the vehicles. My money’s on “something else.”

According to KABC-TV, ABC News’ local affiliate in Los Angeles, Glass House Farms employs hundreds of workers. “Border Patrol says it served a warrant on the farm because it is accused of hiring and harboring undocumented workers.”
The protest grew more intense throughout the day. KABC reported that agents tossed smoke canisters and flash bangs into the crowd. Some protesters responded by “throwing what looked like rocks” at the agents.
After several extremely sympathetic interviews with demonstrators, KABC reported, “A protester was seen apparently firing some kind of weapon at federal agents during the immigration raid at a farm near Camarillo on Thursday. It’s unknown if anyone was injured in the chaos.” [Emphasis added.]
“Some kind of weapon” would, of course, be a gun — but KABC seems to have a bit of trouble connecting the word gun to a protester, especially one who has just transformed into a rioter.
The reporter on the scene called it “some kind of gun,” but I guess ABC7 felt it would be too much to put that word in print.

Firing a gun at a federal agent is a serious crime and the penalties are severe. Naturally, authorities would like to identify this individual.
U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California Bill Essayli reported that the FBI is offering a $50,000 reward “for information leading to the conviction of an Unknown Subject who appeared to fire a pistol at Federal Law Enforcement Officers near Camarillo.”

California Gov. Gavin Newsom, of course, was outraged over the raid. He posted a video (recorded by KTLA 5 News) that showed protesters running from tear gas and a distraught teenager whose mother had allegedly been detained by agents. He wrote, “Kids running from tear gas, crying on the phone because their mother was just taken from the fields. Trump calls me “Newscum” — but he’s the real scum.”
“Taken from the fields,” Gavin?

Newsom wasn’t the only politician trying to demonize ICE — or to direct a little attention to himself. Rep. Jimmy Gomez (D-CA) tried to characterize Glass House as a strawberry farm on social media. He wrote: “How many MS-13 gang members are waking up at 3 a.m. to pick strawberries? O’yeah, zero! … Trump said he’d go after ‘bad hombres,’ but he’s targeting the immigrant farm workers who feed America. Either he lied — or he can’t tell the difference.”
He was quickly called out by President Trump’s Rapid Response team: “This was not a strawberry farm and you know it. It was a marijuana facility, where unaccompanied minors were found— yet you continue to defend it. TDS has broken your brain, Jimmy.”

The protests continued into the night. Shortly after midnight, Fox News’ Bill Melugin posted an update. He reported, “Situation there is still ongoing & active.”
To recap:
– Federal agents conduct massive op at Camarillo marijuana farm.
– Politicians push false narrative food workers & children are being raided.
– Feds disclose they have criminal judicial warrant for harboring aliens.
– Protester appears to shoot gun at agents.

A separate, smaller raid was conducted at a Glass House Farms facility in Carpinteria, California. Local media outlet, Santa Barbara Independent, reported that Rep. Salud Carbajal (D-CA), apparently ready for his 15 minutes of fame, was not allowed past federal agents. Speaking to reporters afterward, the lawmaker said:
Today, I was at Casitas Pass Road in Carpinteria where ICE was conducting a raid using disproportionate displays of force against local farm workers and our agricultural community. As a member of Congress and representative of the Central Coast, I have the right to conduct oversight and see firsthand what ICE was doing here. As soon as I walked up, I was denied entry and was not allowed to pass. This was completely unacceptable. There’s been a troubling lack of transparency from ICE since the Trump Administration started, and I won’t stop asking questions on behalf of my constituents.
In the clip below, Carbajal is seen being denied access by federal agents.

The federal government has no authority over marijuana until it crosses state (or national) borders.
Prohibition and its repeal should make that crystal clear.
Yeah? Tell it to gun owners.

What strain are you smoking?
If a farmer growing grain to feed his own livestock involves interstate commerce, so does this.
That’s maybe how it should be, but look up Gonzales v. Raich to find out how it is.
1. Who tipped off the protestors there would be an ICE raid on the farm? Is there a mole inside of ICE?
2. I have read elsewhere that some of these unaccompanied minors were working at the farm. If true, is employing minors on a marijuana farm legal?
This is exactly what I came here to comment about. It’s not only illegal adult laborers who do not have proper documentation and are paying appropriate taxes. But it is very possibly or likely to be child labor. This would be an extra layer of predatory employment with the company able to suppress wages by not only paying the adults far less than they would have to pay legal adults, but paying children less than they would have to pay illegal adults.
As far as I know it is legal for minors over 12 to work on farms.
Back in the 60s and 70s, my memory was marijuana was a lot taller than halfway to a knee when it was time to process it. I don’t think the people seen in video were running in a marijuana field. I also don’t know where the “marijuana field” tag came from. I do hate to admit it, but if it came from our federal officials…. Well like I said, marijuana being harvested should be at least man height. Maybe with all the legal stuff out there now, the plant could have been exposed to GMO manipulation and it is grown only to ankle height now.
MJ has been hybridized over the last 40 years and it’s California with an all year growing season. That may be the 2nd crop.
Well a large company knowingly hiring illegals probably wasn’t paying them on the books. Maybe the IRS should audit them?
Forget the audit. If even one employee was illegal arrest and jail the company owner or owners. All employers are supposed to verify the legality of all employees using I think EVerify or something similar to that name. 30 years ago when taking I job I even had to provide a birth certificate or passport to prove I was legally in the US despite being native board. There is no excuse for hiring illegals these day. Make an example of the owners of this company and pump them for information because they likely have connections either to politicians, cartels, or likely both,
They were probably not knowingly hiring illegals. As in they probably didn’t have specific knowledge that any specific worker was illegal, though they must have realized, as do all farmers, that a good many of their workers are.
Ztakddot, no, employers are not required to use eVerify. They’re required to see papers, but they’re not expected to be experts on recognizing valid and invalid ones, and in fact can get in trouble for being too picky. If a document appears on a brief glance to be valid, or possibly valid, they’re expected to accept it.
There are 22 States that require use of E Verify. Some only for public employers. About half of the 22 require it for private employers as well. Some like Alabama, Arizona, Mississippi, Louisiana require every employer no matter how many employees to use it while others have specific employment thresholds from GA requiring it for 11 or more to Utah requirement for 15o employees.
Of course every employer is still required to complete and send a form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification form to show that the employer has reviewed the identity documents and the employment eligibility documents submitted by the employees. In addition the employer is supposed to reject documentation submitted that doesn’t ‘reasonably appear genuine’, has inconsistencies, misspelled Name…IOW the employer is required to make a good faith effort not just accept what they they are handed and turn a blind eye or be willfully ignorant and claim innocence… especially if they made a deliberate decision not to avail themselves of free E Verify system to assist them.
If 22 states require it, that means 28 states don’t. And only 11 require it of private employers, which means 39 don’t. California is one of the 39. So this employer had no duty to use it.
And “reasonably appear genuine” means it can’t be a blatant forgery. But no employer is expected to be an expert in spotting non-blatant forgeries, not should they be. in addition, when dealing with minority employees an employer can get in trouble for questioning papers that aren’t obvious forgeries
The bottom line is that this employer is in the clear; there is no indication that it has done anything wrong.
The opinion you offer rests on a bunch of assumptions…some of which are already disproved according to reporting. If ICE detained a bunch of ‘undocumented’ workers then those workers didn’t offer any ID or employment eligibility documents to the employer.
As for ‘minority’ status I’d suggest that in many areas of CA that Hispanic is probably the majority of the population…if this raid was in Alabama I’d agree you’d have a much stronger point.
I think it’s way too early to pronounce that the owners and managers of Glass House are ‘in the clear’. Lots more information gonna come out before we can definitely say either way.
Finally If I was prosecuting this case I’d hammer the refusal to use the cost free E Verify service as one key factor in tipping the.scale towards indifference and lack of good faith effort to send accurate information to the Feds as required. Sure they don’t have to but if they wanted to claim innocence and that they were duped by bad employees why not use it? Simplest answer is they didn’t b/c they didn’t want to make a good faith effort. Especially given some prior employment practices there been cited on.
As I have wondered for quite some time as these riots have grown and metastasized around the country, where are the high pressure water hoses? They seem to be effective when I have seen them employed.
Well it is California, they may not have enough water to use this tactic. lol
Desert Arizona seems to have no problem, but California is on some type of ocean, which really screws things up.
From what I understand, neither the DoD nor any state Guard units have them in inventory. I’m not sure what local PDs might have. I guess they could repurpose some of their airport firefighting equipment (they’re often equipped with what essentially are water cannons). I agree that they would make a ton of sense in many of these crowd control situations. The Marine Corps does have a number of Active Denial Systems in inventory. It’s a hugely effective directed energy weapon. But, we’ve neve put them into operation…mostly out of the optics of shooting large crowds with high-doses of microwaves. I’ve seen them tested in person. They’re effective AF.
The video of the shooter shows him to have been as much a threat to his fellows as he was to the officers.
First, Bill Melugian is a national treasure. He’s the only reporter at Fox News who actually reports. Second, why aren’t these ‘parents’ being arrested for contributing the delinquency of a minor. Also, the Feds should examine what local/state law enforcement and/or regulatory agencies were aware that minor children were working the marijuana fields and did nothing. That seems like a big deal.
The Democrats/ Marxists Propaganda Ministry will never quit.
You can’t H8 them enough.
But, but … if we can’t use “undocumented” migrants to grow the marijuana, how are we going to get our weed to zone out? Wow man … this is serious!
I’d say ABC is a disgrace but I’ve already gotten hoarse for commenting about the lame steam media.
So the d/prog and wokiesta surrogates are now on record defending:
1. Commercial scale marijuana farming operation
2. Employment of illegal aliens
3. Employment of Minor Children
IOW substitute cotton for marijuana and not much changes for d/prog in a couple hundred years. They still want an imported, non white, exploitable labor force to pick the crops and resist efforts to enforce changes to meet the altered political landscape.
You can bet that if you follow the money, this facility is owned by someone with cartel financing.
The owner donates to Newsome’s campaigns.
They reportedly also donate to GoP candidates. The open borders lobby is definitely not exclusive to d/prog and we gotta stop giving a pass to ‘our side’ for supporting cheap imported labor. Lots of otherwise ‘conservative’ folks want to maintain access to their access to cheap labor offered by imported foreign workers whether legal or illegal. We should demand US Citizens with the basic skill sets needed be hired before any foreign worker. There’s supposed to be 30 million + folks drawing Medicaid benefits who are unemployed but able bodied and able to work. Give them the opportunity to work and if they decline put their ass on the street.
It is only a matter of time before someone is killed and they will have been killed directly because of Democrat incitement.
Democrats want someone to be killed so they can use that persons death for their own benefit while NEVER taking responsibility for their constant 24/7 incitement.
Is it unreasonable to suggest that the shooter was trying to either strike a “protestor” or incite the feds into returning fire?
Historically, the FA part has been like pushing a doorbell repeatedly, and the FO part is like flipping the 2-gang knife switch at the local nuke plant. Once the FO switch has been pulled, it might be impossible to turn off. It will be similar to that mosquito buzzing around your forearm. bzzz bzzz bzzz, SWAT!
Elizabeth, the tweet embedded in the article from the ABC reporter clearly says ‘some type of gun ‘
If it could have even possibly been spin as a right-winger, the headline and text on the image would have said “gun” and/or “gunman”, not “weapon” and “protester”.
That’s the point. The reporter’s original tweet says it, and yet ABC’s reporting on it carefully avoids that word.
Okay so if you were reading the article it would say he fired some kind of weapon. If you fire it then the weapon can be maybe three types.
The point is that ABC is carefully avoiding the word.
here is exactly why there is a chaos
NOTICE THAT 99% of all encounters between leftists and the law
Lefty is aggressive while the law literally pushes back when one whack of the baton on the knees of a violent predatory leftist will send the message that they wont be attacked without retort
I would rather no violence occur but lefty not only knows violence is their calling card
THEIR LEADERS ARE CALLING FOR IT
If you physically attack law enforcement officers doing their job, you should be beaten on the spot until you are retarded.
Did someone vet his tweet? You never mention the derogatory nickname someone used against you. That just fuels it more. Way to go Newscum.
I must confess that I find Trump’s use of derogatory nicknames, especially “Newscum,” puerile at best.
Not unless there’s a statute that specifically gives you such a right. I won’t say for sure that there isn’t, since I was caught out on DHS detention facilities, where I wrote that congressmen had no special right of entry, it turned out that there is a statute that explicitly allows them to inspect any DHS facility used to detain or house aliens, with no notice. So maybe there’s one that allows them to inspect ongoing raids and riots as well; but somehow I doubt it.
