My Take: “We Came Within An Inch Of The Country Coming Apart”

My Take: “We Came Within An Inch Of The Country Coming Apart”

Hearing the news of the Donald Trump assassination attempt, I had a couple of initial reactions to it: Deep emotions relating to my childhood memory of the JFK assassination, and how close we are to our society falling apart.

I recorded a quick reaction to the Trump assassination attempt.

I’ll have this transcribed and will add the transcription later. (added)

“Hearing the news that Donald Trump had been shot with an assassination attempt at the rally in Pennsylvania, I had a couple of initial reactions to it.

I know a lot of people will be talking about this in the coming days, and we still don’t really know enough about the shooter, what his motivation was. It might’ve been just plain old Trump Derangement Syndrome. It might’ve been that he was completely delusional, like Jared Loughner who shot the Congresswoman in Texas. Or it might be some combination. But that doesn’t really matter for the way I reacted.

The way I reacted was at a very core level emotionally. Many people have messaged me that they came to tears when they heard about the shooting before they even knew what the result was. And I felt very much the same way.

It brought out from me one of my earliest childhood emotions, which was the assassination of JFK. I was four years old. It was really my first childhood emotion that I remember. And my mother wrote out for me a short note that I sent to the President’s family and to his children saying how sad I was that they lost their father. As you can tell, even right now, there’s something very core that comes out of me when I talk about that. And the White House at that time did respond.

That’s something that has stayed with me. And whenever we’ve had major assassinations or assassination attempts, that’s something that no matter how much I try to suppress it, it comes out.

But there’s another reaction that I had. One that’s something that we’ve talked about a lot at the website, which is how close we are to our society falling apart. And I’ve often quoted parts of the poem from William Butler Yates about the Second Coming and how “the center cannot hold” and “things fall apart.”

And that’s another emotion I had. We literally came within an inch. Now that’s a common phrase. ‘I came within an inch of doing something’. We literally came within an inch of this country coming apart.

And I think that notion that we’ve talked about a lot at the website, how the relentless pressure from the left on all of us, the capture of institutions, the aggressiveness, the lack of law enforcement, all those other things have really brought our society to a point where there is a very thin reed between society functioning and it coming apart. And that’s the other thing.

I felt that we really were on the precipice and we came within an inch of this country changing forever.

There will be a lot of discussion in the coming days. We’ll cover it at the website. But I wanted to give you my first two initial reactions to the assassination attempt. And thank God it was not successful.”

I think you’re right, Professor, but I also think we’d be fools to simply let it go. They keep upping the rhetoric and eventually there will be a backlash.

“The most terrifying force of death comes from the hands of Men who wanted to be left Alone. They try, so very hard, to mind their own business and provide for themselves and those they love. They resist every impulse to fight back, knowing the forced and permanent change of life that will come from it. They know that the moment they fight back, their lives as they have lived them, are over. The moment the Men who wanted to be left alone are forced to fight back, it is a form of suicide. They are literally killing off who they used to be. Which is why, when forced to take up violence, these Men who wanted to be left alone, fight with unholy vengeance against those who murdered their former lives. They fight with raw hate, and a drive that cannot be fathomed by those who are merely play-acting at politics and terror. TRUE TERROR will arrive at these people’s door, and they will cry, scream, and beg for mercy… but it will fall upon the deaf ears of the Men who just wanted to be left alone.”

I really wish I could give an attribution, but nobody seems to know who said this originally. All I can say is that they’ve been warned, repeatedly and when that backlash comes it’s their fault alone.

“Men who wanted to be left Alone.”

In my case I was a boy who just wanted to be left alone. I was into science, and by 10-11 into geometry, and over time into every thing in math. There were boneheads who insisted on making my life miserable,

I finally had enough after the principal said I would have to take my lumps. I did not want to fight, but finally snapped after her BS, kicking the living crap out of one boy.

After that they left me alone. There are many really stupid people, something which Dems fully exploit, Hillary’s deplorables. They will not be persuaded short of being hurt.

We had a teacher at my Junior High who was a truly abusive SOB. Nothing sexual we knew of, but really went over the line with stuff like slamming a yardstick down HARD on someone’s desk, usually in middle of a test, and usually doing it to one of the loner / nerd / weakling kids.

This all came to a screeching halt one afternoon in the teacher’s parking lot. He got the ever-loving snaht beat out of him, lost a few teeth, and suffered several broken ribs and a dislocated shoulder. There were no witnesses of course.

I also remember JFK’s assassination; I was born in 57. I’ve have referenced Yeats poem The Second Coming as being descriptive of where we are today.

Also born in ’57, was in class (US Catholic Elementary School taught by missionary Irish Franciscan nuns). Announcement over class speakers of the shooting, asked teachers to have us all bow our heads in moment of silence to pray for the president.

My elder sis’s teacher panicked she later told me. This was during the “Troubles” remember, and she was sure this was the signal for all the Protestants to rise up and murder all the Catholics……..

We all know that there will always be losers who attempt assassination. We cannot temper dialogue and coverage to the point at which it does not instigate the most unbalanced minds. We can’t stop public campaigning. What we can do is provide ironclad protection to the major candidates. The sight of short, pony-tailed chicks acting as shields is nauseating. Not covering the rooftop was inexcusable.

When Obama had to cross one street on a visit to India the secret service deployed a quarter million dollar portable tunnel that was air conditioned and lined with television screens!

You’re taking the view that one person did it, a “lone gunman”. Who just happened to have easy and facilitated access to bring a rifle up on one of the nearby roofs.

And they probably got someone young and stupid, but a good shooter, to do it. If the kid were smarter and knew a little history, he would have known that Lee Harvey Oswald did not live long after doing whatever he did to become the alleged killer of JFK.

I’ve posted this before, but (unfortunately) it’s appropriate again.

How Al-Qaeda in Iraq (AQI) recruits suicide bombers, according to a Navy SEAL and senior chief in the book The Sheriff of Ramadi:

“Those SOBs go out and recruit kids to do this. Our interrogators were able to get the whole story (from captured AQI recruits). One of them had been sexually abused as a young boy and was told the only way he could reclaim his family honor was to die for Allah in this manner. The senior AQI leaders – the foreigners – won’t do this themselves. They get others to do it. They prey upon kids, young boys and girls who are insecure or have some psychological disorder. Some of them have severe learning disabilities…”

And, no. I do not own any tin-foil lined hats. I am just a cynical old man who finds virtually anything hard to believe anymore.

To EXACTLY paraphrase Lincoln….”A house divided against itself cannot stand. I believe this country cannot endure, permanently half blue and half red. I do not expect the Union to be dissolved – I do not expect the house to fall – but I do expect it will cease to be divided. It will become all one thing, or all the other”

We have never pushed to make it all one thing when compared to those that seek to make it all one thing…. one Blue Party, one Blue People, one Blue State.

Biden lit the fire and now tries to put it out. It will take a lot! The hate is palpable. Too many have been brainwashed by disinformation into perverted perceptions of reality. Good luck, President Biden, in dealing with yet another disaster you and your allies have created.

ThePrimordialOrderedPair | July 14, 2024 at 3:08 pm

I have to tell you, Professor, it was a lot closer than “an inch”. Trump won the lottery, basically. I would say that the odds of him surviving that particular shot was 100,000 to 1. He just luckily turned his head to the EXACT angle necessary to have it graze him. If his head had been even a half of a degree one way or the other that shot would have been deep in his head. An inch sounds like a small bit but Trump actually survived by much, much less than that. It was pretty miraculous, really. The shot was coming at the side of his head and he just happened to be in the exact angle, at the exact moment necessary, for it to only graze him.

Because he turned his head as the shot was fired, the bullet was basically parallel to his head, hitting his ear. Any deviation of his head from parallel to the path of the bullet and the bullet would have hit his head more directly. Easy test … turn your head toward the right and put your right finger tips up to touch the top of your right ear. Keep your fingers still and turn your head forward again. Where your right fingertips then touch your head is roughly where the bullt would have entered. I am not sure that it would have been fatal, but definitely a mess.

Hopefully, after the tragedy yesterday in Butler, PA, we can all recognize that unaccountable, bloated bureaucracies continue to fail us as Americans.

Donald J Trump is alive today solely due to a lousy wind estimate by an evil would-be assassin.

As the graphics show, the full-value wind of just five mph was enough to displace the unconfirmed but likely light 55-grain bullet two inches from DJT’s intended forehead to his ear.

DJT was not saved by USSS brilliance. The fact that USSS allowed a rifle-armed shooter within 150 yards to a preplanned event is either malice or massive incompetence. There was adequate uncontrolled dead space for a shooter to move into position and take multiple aimed shots. Watching the newsreel, one can hear how proximate the shooter is by the very short time lapse between the crack of the arriving bullet (supersonic) and the boom of the muzzle blast (sonic).

The law enforcement sniper (unclear if USSS) in newsreels was overwhelmed as his face came off his rifle instead of doing his job to kill the shooter. They were clearly watching the shooter but apparently had a no “first shot” policy. The only positive action was an apparent 488yd shot by one USSS sniper, which despatched the assassin, but after the assassin launched at least five rounds, wounding DJT and killing and severely others in the crowd.

In my old business of providing Diplomatic Security in two active war zones, we were expected to execute the basics, or we would be fired. Clearly, USSS failed at the basics of a secure perimeter. Once shots were fired, their extraction was clumsy, leaving DJT highly exposed to follow-on attacks. It looked like they had never drilled together because those responses should be effectively autonomic. Will there be accountability? That’s not the Washington way.

Unserious and unworthy people in positions of authority got us to this near disaster. Merit and execution must be the only deciding factors in hiring and leadership, not the social engineering priority of the day. Sadly nothing in Washington reflects that any longer. DJT is right to question the competence of those protecting him because they failed in almost every way yesterday. Nature abhors a vacuum, and there are always other options.

Most importantly, as Americans, let’s come together and run a proper, valid election so we can get back to what matters: a merit-based society that judges on character and skill. Nothing else.

“The law enforcement sniper (unclear if USSS) in newsreels was overwhelmed as his face came off his rifle instead of doing his job to kill the shooter.”

The first post of that video that I saw on X was made by someone who thought it depicted a sniper “taking out” the shooter. It did not. It showed a sniper reacting (unprofessionally) to incoming fire. When a well-trained sniper shoots, nothing moves but his trigger finger.

“Once shots were fired, their extraction was clumsy, leaving DJT highly exposed to follow-on attacks. It looked like they had never drilled together because those responses should be effectively autonomic.”

A far cry from the response of Reagan’s SS detail in response to Hinckley’s attack. Uzis appeared out of nowhere, and Reagan was being stuffed into a limo while Hinkley was still shooting, so quick was their response to get Reagan to safety.

In Reagan’s day, the SS comprised qualified people. Now, it’s DEI hires with a DEI hire in charge.

Were I Trump and won the election, I would use very Executive power at my disposal to give EVERY cabinet level agency a pull-through with a wet Army blanket.

Run security clearances on those people that makes a compartmented SI Top Secret clearance seem like a walk in the park.

I’d also use a TRUSTED, PRIVATE outfit to do those checks, Anything else is the fox in the henhouse.

So the shot came from the left side of the frame, where his face was, and not the right side, where the back of his head was? (I haven’t seen any of the area maps.)

If so, the sniper was truly a lousy shot to take down that other guy about eight feet in front of Trump’s face.

The Left keeps warning us of the ‘stochastic terrorism’ coming from the Right, yet they keep engaging in stochastic terrorism themselves.

Before Fort Sumter came Bleeding Kansas. I believe the bleeding has begun but there’s still time to turn it around. Not much inclination that I see on the other side but still time.

“Once one state tells DC to sod off, that’s will things will really roll downhill.”

Been saying for decades that’s how it will start. There will be no war. States will just leave the Union, possibly form a new one for mutual assistance and defense. There will be no public sentiment to war to re-unify the United States. Liberals will quickly realize that fewer conservative States in the Union will actually increase their hold on power, and will acquiesce to the departure of Red States for the advantage it will give them in the remaining States.

Agreed. Lots we simply don’t know yet and may never know. What we do know isn’t good. The current divisions run deep, splitting families and shattering friendships. Not sure it is possible to avoid a larger fracture or if could be avoided in a negotiated settlement where each of the main cultural branches go their separate ways. The latter is certainly more preferable to open violent conflict.

Neither of the main cultural branches seems interested in surrendering to the other nor is there widespread support for a negotiated settlement leading to a relatively peaceful division. Unless one of those things changes or one cultural branch gains a lasting super majority then that unfortunate conflict may not be avoidable.

Of course now the Left has a perfect excuse for Brandon not to make any public appearances. Too dangerous, they will scream. The irony is that the Donald’s future ralleys will be so well attended that no sniper will be able to get within 1000 yards. They had to do the entire Covid farce to stop his rallys last time. In one second they lost the hearts and minds of so so many who were on the fence. No one likes being lied to forever, and this is a debacle that they simply can’t coverup like 1963 because there are too many independent sources on the interwebz. And everyone they shut down will just turn another thousand against them. Like Pearl Harbor, this was a desperate act by desperate people which failed. They have lost the hearts and minds forever.

No, it is not. It is a scurrilous lie-sheet run by two cynical frauds, and every word that appears on it must be presumed to be a lie unless it is corroborated by reliable sources, in which case those can just be cited directly and there is no point in citing the lie-sheet.

Just one example of Joe Hoft’s extreme cynicism was when he brazenly claimed that Nancy Pelosi’s former chief of staff was the Chief Executive of Dominion Ballot Counting Systems, that Dianne Feinstein’s husband was a major shareholder, and that Dominion had ties to the Clinton Foundation. All three of these claims were utter fabrications, but not only did he lie but he actually linked to his “sources” which contradicted his claims in multiple ways. He cynically assumed his target audience were either too gullible to actually check up his “sources”, or too stupid to understand how thoroughly they contradicted him.

Jim Hoft was the one who repeatedly insisted that multiple sources with inside information, including one in the prosecutor’s office and one in the St. Louis County Police, had informed him that Darren Wilson had an “orbital blowout fracture to the eye socket”, which was untrue, and posted what he purported to be Wilson’s CT scan, deliberately altering it to erase the evidence that it was no such thing.

These are just a pair of scoundrels and one has to be particularly gullible to pay attention to anything they say.

As for Laura Loomer, she’s just an outright lunatic.

ANOTHER THING: I meant to mention this earlier. Reportedly, Crooks was not carrying identification and was identified through DNA. I don’t understand that. How was the FBI or Secret Service able to identify Crooks through his DNA, almost immediately? Crooks apparently didn’t have a criminal record, so why would his DNA be somehow on file with law enforcement? Obviously there is an answer, but I don’t know what it is.

They probably got it from his personal items in his home, which the feds swarmed on pretty much immediately. How they found his home without him having an id on his corpse . . . is puzzling. But let’s not get too caught up in crazy, at least not yet. Things aren’t exactly adding up, but we can wait to find out more before going off the deep end.

Negative. How did the FBI find his home if they didn’t know who he was? Hinderaker might not have mentioned it, but there are only two ways to ID someone via DNA. The first is to have the person’s DNA in a database. The second is by comparing one person’s DNA to another, known, person to see if they’re blood relatives. Not knowing who he was, how did they link him to any persons who might be family who could provide the DNA to use for making the comparison? If you know any such family members, wouldn’t you just have them ID the body?

Until I read a cogent explanation how an unknown person with no ID and no explained reason for already having his DNA in a database, the FBI’s narrative on this point doesn’t pass the smell test.

Fuzzy thinking indeed. You need the DNA to find the home to find the DNA?

It wasn’t hard to id him.

Car keys in pocket. Remote lock fob locking. Wander around until a car responds to the fob. Check License plate. Owner of the vehicle = him or his family, Warrant to search home. DNA match,

At powerline it was suggested they traced the registration of the rifle which lead to his father which led to his home and ID.
Another option was fingerprints in some data base if he had ever been arrested or (?).
          Idk

23 and Me will snap to attention, salute, and yell “yessir!” when the Gestapo comes to call.

That could be a source. Crooks is also young enough that his school may have taken DNA for some “it’s for the chilll-rennn!” excuse.

    Who knows?!?

In light of DaveGinOly’s comment, disregard this one. Thanks.

Dave and others: things are not adding up, but time to be patient.

Exercising patience is good advice. Let’s do the same with the story as it unfolds and not blindly accept out of context or incomplete information…. such as DNA evidence being offered as the ID method but no mention as to exactly what database this guy’s DNA was in for a comparison/match…or how that came back so quickly. If someone on scene or nearby was able to ID the body and that’s how they linked him to an address then they should state that as a fact and not leave an obvious question unanswered.

Transparency means exactly that, tell the public what they know as they figure it out and confirm it. No one should jump to conclusions or engage in speculation but that demands the investigation release the info in way that doesn’t leave ambiguities or unconnected dots which create room for the very speculation we don’t need.

See the page you linked to, for a clear answer:

MORE: About the DNA, my friend Kevin Roche writes:

On identifying someone by DNA, you would be stunned John by how many people’s DNA is in a database and how quickly sequencing can happen now. If you have any kind of medical procedure your DNA is probably out there. And there are portable sequencers but I am guessing the FBI just zipped it to the Univ. of Pitts Medical school which could sequence it in five minutes or less and the match with today’s computers takes no time.

Maybe he did one of those commercial dna testing services and the fbi made a request for them to run their database.

Biden needs to accept his responsibility. He won’t. So fake.

“It brought out from me one of my earliest childhood emotions, which was the assassination of JFK. I was four years old. It was really my first childhood emotion that I remember.”

I was in fifth grade at the time. My first thought was terror that such a thing could happen in the USA.

By seventh grade, after two more liberal icons had eaten dirt exactly the same way, I had lost a significant load of patriotic naivete.

If Trump called a hit on Biden, like Biden did on Trump, there would be a line of volunteers 5 miles long.
