Reactions to Trump Assassination Attempt

Reactions to Trump Assassination Attempt

Biden made a statement to the nation tonight.

We will post reactions as they come in.

My feeling right now (10:15 p.m. Eastern):

——–

Trump statement on Truth Social:

I want to thank The United States Secret Service, and all of Law Enforcement, for their rapid response on the shooting that just took place in Butler, Pennsylvania. Most importantly, I want to extend my condolences to the family of the person at the Rally who was killed, and also to the family of another person that was badly injured. It is incredible that such an act can take place in our Country. Nothing is known at this time about the shooter, who is now dead. I was shot with a bullet that pierced the upper part of my right ear. I knew immediately that something was wrong in that I heard a whizzing sound, shots, and immediately felt the bullet ripping through the skin. Much bleeding took place, so I realized then what was happening. GOD BLESS AMERICA!

“Now is the time for every American who loves our country to step back from the division, renounce all violence, and unite in prayer for President Trump and his family.”

Sorry, old man, that’s what you did. Look how well it worked.

fscarn in reply to henrybowman. | July 13, 2024 at 8:21 pm

Several days ago grifter Biden said, “It’s time to put Trump in a Bullseye.”

So the orders went out from the CFR and the White House.

“Let it be written, let it be done.”

“If you come for the king, you best not miss.”

In the same vein as the malicious lawfare got Trump even more votes, this too will gather him more votes.

Now do you believe there is a conspiracy to force the USA into the NWO? Joe wants that; Trump does not.

Biden’s mouth opens and his brains are no where to be found.
He say’s things off the cuff with not an iota of what comes out of it. Then you have nut cases who literally take it for what he actually says (when not of mush mouthing it) and makes it their mission to make it so. Then you get a day like today..and say ‘What the hell is happening?’

Imagine the response to a leader of a political movement in another country becomes an assassination target 16 days after after his political opponent has the worst day in the history of American politics

The left didn’t do it any more than the right did it when it’s reversed.

It’s still free speech first.

What’s missing is mockery of the left’s evaluations of Trump, not censorship of metaphors.

What the hell are you talking about? Where is the parallel to Scalise, Kavanaugh, and this? False equivalence in the name of faux-intellectualism.

Gabby Giffords. Hateful rhetoric on the right was blamed, famously a target that I think Sarah Palin put out on democrat opponents in important states.

That was a true mental case, not politically motivated, even if the right was blamed. Those mentioned, not to mention others, were done for ideology.

Today is amid an environment awash with hate directed at Trump from all fronts. Playing the equivalence game is silly and does not stand scrutiny, and not astute despite the effort.

A bullseye on a map that the shooter never saw

I can’t say for now what this shooter was influenced by specifically …

        … but for sure (1)
Many Democrat leaders and influencers want him dead (exhibit A: the proposed legislation stripping him of secret service), (2) are familiar with stochastic violence and likely use their wording to try to inspire them, (3) DHS head mayorkas is trying to do the minimum to protect Biden’s opponents (the SS may not fully set the level of security provided, DHS is involved too)

Milhouse in reply to rhhardin. | July 14, 2024 at 4:01 pm

The left didn’t do it any more than the right did it when it’s reversed.

        When was it reversed?

Gabby Giffords. Hateful rhetoric on the right was blamed,

Was falsely blamed. There had been no hateful rhetoric. There was a map identifying congressional districts that Republicans were hoping to win. They weren’t even marked by targets but by register marks that are standard on some mapping software. The shooter had no real political views at all — he was way too crazy to have them — but to whatever small extent he did have a political orientation it was more Democrat than anything else.

Really the Giffords shooting was not political violence at all. It was just a crazy person shooting someone famous. The target could just as easily have been a Republican.

If anyone with a wide audience on a social media platform had said, “It’s time to put Biden in the bullseye,” that person would have received a visit from the Secret Service.

Milhouse in reply to DaveGinOly. | July 14, 2024 at 4:04 pm

A polite visit, maybe, but no more than that. The Secret Service are well aware that they have every right to say that, so they would just be politely inquiring about whether the person had any plans to act on it. Even that is of dubious constitutionality, since it could have a chilling effect on such speech.

what a joke–they are strictly jv–what antifa may not realize ( if indeed they were responsible ) is they just painted a great big bullseye on themselves and their entire ” organization “–if they choose to ” protest ” in public now, they’d best be ready for a long tour in icu

Part of a post I made on Breitbart:

If the shooter turns out to be Antifa, the next time Antifa takes to the streets, they need to be met with force, and I’m not talking about LE. When Kyle Rittenhouse took to the streets of Kenosha, the entire city let him down, because there should have been 5,000 armed Kenoshans on the streets with him. It’s time for a show of force.

I worked in a building where Jimmy Carter made a campaign appearance. The secret took the building apart for two weeks prior to his visit.

Sanddog in reply to Petrushka. | July 14, 2024 at 5:07 am

I can’t understand why they didn’t have a drone up in the air to surveil the rooftops outside their zone where the PA cops were supposed to cover. It makes no sense.

Tell me somehow in a way that could possibly make me believe you…
The shooter was 200 yards off in plain sight and the secret service was NOT surveilling that?

And they had attendees yelling and pointing?
FOR 3 MINUTES???

I am an Alaskan.
Born with a rifle in my hand.
At 7 years old, I was rabbit hunting without supervision.

And 200 yards with a .22 Long Rifle, is entirely possible. In fact, not even particularly hard.
I call B.S.

They allowed their shooter to act before they responded.
And this is supposed to be the best we have.
I don’t buy it.

Olinser in reply to snowshooze. | July 13, 2024 at 9:09 pm

200 yards off, on a rooftop…. and there are literally only like 5 buildings around the area for a mile.

Putting people on rooftops is day 1 basic stuff.

ThePrimordialOrderedPair in reply to Olinser. | July 13, 2024 at 9:11 pm

starride in reply to henrybowman. | July 13, 2024 at 10:29 pm

Yea a 22lr would have less than 4.5 inches drop at 200ft, a 22winmag would have less than 1 inch drop and it’s almost impossible to tell the difference between the sounds the round makes when fired

Olinser in reply to henrybowman. | July 14, 2024 at 12:21 am

Of course its not hard. When I was in the Marine Corps, 200 yards was the SHORTEST distance you shot on the rifle range. And you shot it from standing/kneeling/sitting.

      200 yards, 300 yards, 500 yards.

And that was with iron sights.

200 yards with a scope is a joke shot as long as the rifle is zeroed.

Give me a rifle with a 2x scope in the prone like this shooter was and I’d hit 100 out of 100 shots center mass.

There is ZERO EXCUSE that the SS allowed him to get that close long enough to fire multiple shots with a rifle.

He should be dead, and its a miracle that he isn’t even seriously injured.

alaskabob in reply to Olinser. | July 14, 2024 at 12:33 am

They give 22LR to Marines now? That would be sporting of us. This was either a SS blunder or someone is on the DNC payroll. Way too close…

Seabisquit in reply to henrybowman. | July 14, 2024 at 4:15 am

Being curious as a kid I tried a shot with a 22 at about 100 yds with iron sights at some yellow bird. Nailed it (and felt terrible). We are lucky (divinely) that Trump turned his head slightly. The turn may have been the reaction to the shot as the sound of the shot would come later.

Sanddog in reply to E Howard Hunt. | July 14, 2024 at 5:11 am

It was outside the Secret Services zone of protection. They guys told the PA cops and it just confused them. I doubt the report made it to the secret service before the bullets started flying.

henrybowman in reply to E Howard Hunt. | July 14, 2024 at 6:36 pm

No, I saw that. The ‘warnings” were out at the periphery, to PA cops. The chicks were at the central stage where apparently nobody knew nuthin.

artichoke in reply to snowshooze. | July 13, 2024 at 11:42 pm

Hit the ear. That’s a near miss from the temple, the soft spot in the skull the shooter may have tried to hit. With only a .22, they wanted an easy entry point.

alaskabob in reply to snowshooze. | July 14, 2024 at 12:28 am

A 22 LR doesn’t open up one’s skull at 200 yards. Brain doesn’t ooze out nor create as much blood as on that ER doc. I doubt the shooter was in any way experienced….fortunately. I bet an AR as that is the rifle du jour for the inexperienced. The Left is all about peace and good will having had a minion blow it. The New Republic and The New Yorker front covers speak the truth about what the Left was hoping for… and still do. As I have stated before…. the one person most at risk now is Biden …. but from HIS side of the fence. No use making useless scum anything more.

RFK Jr. just babbled some of the dumbest crap ever on Newsmax. He tried to, somehow, place the responsibility for this on everyone – it’s because of “all” of us that this happened … not the America-hating, criminal, nihilist leftists who have been doing their best to destroy the country and bring pain and suffering to everyone who doesn’t embrace their insane leftist ideas of self-destruction and disaster.

Frankly, he sounds like a moron and is being disingenuous, at best.

As I’ve said for months, he’s a far left LUNATIC. He broke with them on basically only one key point – the vax – and that’s it.

True. He’s always been a commie. I remember when he was shilling for Hugo Chavez. But he is usually good for a decent debate. In this case, he was just totally off point and went out of his way to try to make it an “all of us” thing rather than the obvious leftist thing this clearly is. He was given a lot of leeway, given the present events and the circumstances of his history.

Absolutely agree – top-5, iconic. Note that FOX quoted former AG Bill Barr as saying this has to stop and that Trump is not a danger to Democracy. There are no dead Democrats. This is all on them.

It also blows out of the water the “false flag” theory unhinged leftists (but I repeat myself) are trying to peddle. AP is not exactly a MAGA outlet.

DaveGinOly in reply to TargaGTS. | July 14, 2024 at 1:01 am

I had three immediate thoughts (as I first saw the photo the moment I became aware of the situation):
The shooter just made Trump the next president.
The photographer will win a Pulitzer.
The Dems will blame Trump for the violence.

This is America now

Toothpaste behind locker cabinets

Millions of homeless addicts shitting in our streets
Millions of illegals robbing and murdering American citizens

And political opponents jailed and murdered

This is very clearly the result of the left’s rhetoric and propaganda.

The left has been hunting down and murdering conservative leaders all over the world

Abe, Japan,

MOSCOW, Feb 16 (Reuters) – Alexei Navalny, Russian ( most likely)

Prime Minister Robert Fico of Slovakia,

Now The big guy

Trump

What a freaken world

He needs to bring in Eric Princes Security company, the guy who ran Blackwater and is a former Navy Seal! He can provide 50 former Navy Seal, Delta Force and Green Beret personnel to help with President Trumps security!!! 🤔

Trump had private security at the WH when he was in office. But it’s easier to protect that one place and the limited and controlled public appearances on official business, than to keep up with a campaign.

Oh, and just in case you think this was just some ‘fringe’ guy.

Leftists HATE US and want us dead. It’s long past time pretending that it’s just some ‘extreme fringe’ at work.

They ALL want us dead rather than give up power.

One silver lining is that this shuts up all the “high road” right wingers who whine, “don’t be the first to fire at Fort Sumter, that’s what the left wants.” Well, the first shot’s been fired — it’s time we gave the left what they think they want.

That piece of shit obama has gall. “When they bring a knife, we bring a gun!”

Vile Obama calls for “civility,” that totally hypocritical POS.

To hell with every single Dhimmi-crat and their hollow words. These bastards have spent the past eight years ceaselessly vilifying and demonizing President Trump and conservatives.

thad_the_man | July 13, 2024 at 10:51 pm

Libs oif TikTok is having a field day reporting crazies screaming that he missed. Like shooting fish in a barrel.

Good comment from elsewhere:
Trump will have the perfect comeback now: put the ROCKY music with bloody Trump pumping his fist! I was not a Trump fan but now I am. That was major spunk!

Also, Elon Musk: “Last time America had a candidate this tough was Theodore Roosevelt.”

ThePrimordialOrderedPair | July 13, 2024 at 11:14 pm

It looked as if almost half of Trump’s main SS detail are women. I’m sure they are great ladies and all but women have NO BUSINESS playing as main secret service bodyguards. They are not equipped for that job and cannot do any of the duties, really. I think part of the reason why Trump wasn’t carried off the stage immediately (which is protocol, I think) is because women cannot carry enough weight. You could see the one chick who tries to join the protective shell around Trump when he stands up and she is a foot shorter than the guys and a quarter less wide. It isn’t her fault but it’s just a joke that they try to put her in there. Like having a 28 gauge link in a 12 gauge chain. It’s pathetic and stupid. Women have no business playing at being frontline secret service officers. Crazy.

MoeHowardwasright | July 13, 2024 at 11:14 pm

This attack is a result of demonrat rhetoric over the last 8 years against President Trump. Ask Steve Scalise about how rhetoric impacts Republicans. Demonrats can try and run for cover, but they can’t hide. They have the blood of Trump and the two people shot at his rally on their hands. FJB

The MSM and Democrats stepped up the assassination rhetoric for years. Even MS shows like The View. This gives a license to nuts…..but much more important, but less obvious, to the Deep State. Creatures like Garland, Wray, Myorkas, Burns….can release the demons in society. Leave them alone when they arm. Play them like they did with the Whitmere Plot……

ThePrimordialOrderedPair | July 14, 2024 at 12:06 am

The secret service is hiding from this press conference.

Pathetic.

Biden – “Time to put Trump in the bullseye.”

They tried to remove Trump from office for telling his supporters to go and “protest peacefully.” Are Republicans going to file articles of impeachment against Biden for encouraging an assassination attempt against a political rival?

Ghostrider in reply to DaveGinOly. | July 14, 2024 at 1:39 am

“Are Republicans going to file articles of impeachment against Biden for encouraging an assassination attempt against a political rival?” Why not? Imagine what the Left would do to conservatives if the tables were turned.

When Donald Trump is inaugurated on January 20, 2025, he should ride into Washington, DC on a beautiful white horse named Vengeance.

Paddy M in reply to DaveGinOly. | July 14, 2024 at 7:09 am

    Haha! Good one, DaveG!

The media coverage on the left is contemptibly and predictably dishonest and farcical. “Trump falls at podium.” “Secret Service Removes Trump from Stage.” Etc. All typically dishonest attempts to minimize, obfuscate and obscure the Dhimmi-crats’ undeniable culpability in fomenting and enabling this assassination attempt, via their eight-plus years of ceaseless, vicious and malicious vilification of President Trump and conservatives, at-large.

https://thefederalist.com/2024/07/13/early-media-reports-call-trump-bleeding-after-he-was-shot-an-incident/

A “tweet” issued by that vile POS, Obama, reflects his typical, brazen and nauseatingly sanctimonious and hypocritical character. The malignant narcissist and dunce lectures Americans to practice “civility,” after personally ushering in non-stop, 24/7 vilification of, demonization of and political targeting of President Trump, and, conservatives at-large, and, after having subverted our democratic process by engaging in lawless dirty tricks unprecedented in our nation’s history.

An attempted assassination of a former US President on the campaign trail is now on the ballot. What happened last night in Butler, Pennsylvania has God-fearing, law-abiding Americans feeling what they haven’t felt since 911. A lot of people are angry at what the Left has done in total to try to destroy Trump over the past eight years.

The progressive Left began with criticism, then you went to protest, then you went to impeachment, twice, and then they quickly moved to four separate indictments and none of them worked. Yesterday, they took the bold step of an assassination attempt. These people are evil.

I will crawl over broken glass to vote for Trump.

Camperfixer in reply to Ghostrider. | July 14, 2024 at 7:18 am

Exactly! The man has just reached immortal status, like Washington in battle. He will be even more fervent and direct, and we will support him. Anyone voting D for President is complicit in the demise of America and should be soundly marginalized (a polite manner in which to say what I am thinking).

guyjones in reply to Ghostrider. | July 14, 2024 at 3:12 pm

Yes, preach it. I’m donating as much money as I can spare. Others are, too.

If President Trump had NOT turned his head to the right to look at and discuss the “number of illegal aliens” graph, the shot that hit his right ear would have blown the back of his head off.

One could interpret this as divine intervention. Minutes before the debate I was certainly praying for befuddlement of speech and revelation of truth

ThePrimordialOrderedPair | July 14, 2024 at 2:14 am

President Trump really beat something like 100,000 to 1 odds, tonight. He had jut turned his head to the exact angle that the bullet was able to only graze him. With his head moved a tenth of a degree either way and the bullet would have gone right into his head. This was really sort of miraculous that he escaped this attempt.

There is no excuse for the secret service not to have had that roof covered – either actively watched or just one person friggin standing on it. This is not a mistake. A security detail would pretty much have to go out of its way to ignore that roof. Or completely incompetent people would have to have been intentionally put in charge.

There is no question this comes from Traitor Joe and his junta, one way or another. The same way they encouraged people to do the same to the SCOTUS justices (that assassination only not happening because the guy changed his mind at the last moment). But Traitor Joe and his junta made sure that any would-be assassin had easy access to the conservative SCOTUS justice of his choice.

If the assassin was hired by Iranians who snuck into the country across the southern border, you can be sure that you’ll never hear confirmation of that from the government.

It would be an indictment against all of their programs, in the same way the Nashville shooter’s manifesto was.

Now that the information is coming out, it is clear this was a fetal mission failure of the SS.

texansamurai | July 14, 2024 at 8:22 am

so we’re going to play for the ultimate stakes–no more ” go along to get along ” ehtos ( of course that school of thought began its demise in 2008)

third world stuff indeed–for those of us doing any planning at all, this was the first milestone–the next, early november and after that, early january next year–a ” peaceful transition of power? “–less than six months away

texansamurai | July 14, 2024 at 8:26 am

” go along to get along ” ETHOS

mea culpa

I think we can now safely say the communists don’t think they can win the election anymore.
