Hochul Claims She ‘Misspoke’ When She Said Black Bronx Students Don’t Know the Word ‘Computer’
“Young black kids growing up in the Bronx, who don’t even know what the word a computer is, they don’t know. They don’t know these things.”
New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, a Democrat, told The New York Post she “misspoke” when she said black Bronx children don’t know about computers.
Hochul said at the Milken Institute Global Conference:
HOCHUL: “Young black kids growing up in the Bronx, who don’t even know what the word a computer is, they don’t know. They don’t know these things. And I want the world open up to all of them, because when you have their diverse voices, innovating solutions through technology, then you’re really addressing societies broader challenges.”
My God. Has she met any black people? Democrats & the bigotry of low expectations. pic.twitter.com/4Eo06vaAAh

“I misspoke and I regret it,” Hochul told the publication. “Of course Black children in the Bronx know what computers are — the problem is that they too often lack access to the technology needed to get on track to high-paying jobs in emerging industries like AI. That’s why I’ve been focused on increasing economic opportunity since Day One of my Administration.”
I wonder if it is enough to calm down New York City Democrats.
They are not happy.
“Our children are bright, brilliant, extremely capable, and more than deserving of any opportunities that are extended to other kids,” said Assembly Member Karines Reyes. “Do better.”
“Our children, far from being underestimated, are the epitome of brilliance, resilience, and untapped potential,” Assemblyman John Zaccaro (D-Bronx) wrote in a statement.
“They are not only capable but deserving of every opportunity that their counterparts are offered. It’s disheartening to witness such a portrayal that undermines their abilities and aspirations,” he continued.
“I would invite Governor Hochul to visit us in The Bronx to experience firsthand the intelligence, resilience, and joy that radiate from Bronx children and residents each day,” Assemblywoman Amanda Septimo (D-Bronx) chimed in.
Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie (D-Bronx) somewhat defended Hochul while calling the comments “hurtful:”
“While the Governor’s words were inartful and hurtful, I don’t believe that is where her heart is. I firmly believe she wants to see all of our students excel,” Heastie said.
“Working with Governor Hochul, I hope we can redouble our efforts to bring greater access to technology to our kids in the Bronx. All our students deserve an equal chance to grow and thrive,” he added.

LOL! AWESOME!!
Now, that’s some real, dishonest to badness, down in the dirt leftist retard gibberish. Hochul might have even outdone Kamala with this one.
Hochul just doesn’t have the panache, nor the gravitas, that Kamala Harris has.
😏
Kamala is using rope-a-dope to take the pressure off of Biden. She has been tested and her IQ is 170+. The same is true to a lesser extent (IQ – 150+) with KJP.
Ouch.
ROFLMA!
This guy is pretty funny, too. The statement doesn’t really make any sense … but we know what he’s trying to say. The statement is funny as hell both ways.
Someone should buy this Zaccaro dude Rosetta Stone for English for his birthday.
Lets all ignore that persistent Achievement Gap, shall we?
Don’t Reyes and Zaccaro have thir own victim groups to worry about?
They all got free obama phones. What would they do with computer?
She is as dumb as a rock.
But eminently re-electable, in perpetuity.
It’s a way 0f saying that they’re really learning nothing, as every performance check of schools shows. Mostly from being in classes of kids acting out and nothing else, which is what it stresses.
Even with a tested average IQ of 86 kids do pretty well if the classes work, namely if order is maintained. They’re well below that.
As a victim of New York State public schools, I can tell you the only way anyone learns is in spite of the teachers’ best efforts. It is a system putpose built to fail.
Correct.
It is the parent’s responsibility to be the primary teacher of their children. Even more important in places like Baltimore, where I grew up.
Yet, many inner city (Democrat run) schools, teachers and the parents believe that the school is the primary teacher.
The schools then become nothing more than day care centers. The students peers become their teachers by default.
My parents demanded that I spend time daily on my homework, that I read instead of watching TV, that I understood math and its application to life, and much more.
But, I guess that’s the white privilege I have.
It is only failing if you believe it has a purpose to teach children. It’s actual purpose is to employ members of the teachers union. It succeeds at this very well. 75,000 teachers pay dues to the teachers union. Goal met.
I fondly remember reading Up The Down Staircase in my middle school’s Great Books Club, when it was fresh off the press. Returning to that level of dysfunction would be a major achievement.
“Even with a tested average IQ of 86 kids”
Why did you leave out the detail you know you’re referring to? Just own, since you’re such a brave original thinker.
The average American black IQ is 86. I thought everybody knew that or could infer it. The point isn’t that blacks are dumb but that the schools are completely dysfunctional with blacks.
There are whites with an IQ of 86 and they do okay in American society, so so should blacks.
The goal should be that a black does as well as a white with the same IQ, and they’ll do that if they learn to act white, which is what schools ought to be enforcing. Not calling it that but enforcing it.
The IQ gap is real, and it’s not “racist” to acknowledge that, but it is all too often touted by actual racists (including low expectation racists) to justify their racism.
However, I recommend reading this Brookings Institute article addressing the issue…..
https://www.brookings.edu/articles/the-black-white-test-score-gap-why-it-persists-and-what-can-be-done/
Major points covered…..
AVERAGE IQ of US Asians > Whites > Hispanics > Blacks.
The spread between is smaller than the spread within.
(IE : group averages do not dictate individual “superiority”,)
Over generations the same gene pools have seen > IQ.
“Lower” individuals raised in a “higher” group household test at the higher groups level. Until adolescence hits, where they theorize adopted etc. individuals may start adopting other racial behaviors that handicap them.
Not addressed in the article but of interest to the subject sub Saharan IQs consistently test lower than the same gene pools in the US. Indeed, in South Africa even the whites test (on average) below the US mean of 100.
The obvious conclusion is that societal influences on IQ averages drown out any racial influences that may exist. And that “acting white” (or even better, “acting Asian”) might be the quickest and most effective way to reduce or eliminate differences in tested iq scores.
Yep. It is fair to point out the differences among ‘racial’ groups on average so long as we also understand that those averages ain’t individually applicable. IOW while group differences exist we shouldn’t abandon fair treatment of a particular individual based on that individual’s merit and actions. Look at Hunter Biden as just one example.
IQ was an attempt to predict success, rather than a measurement of any specific thing. It morphed into intelligence measurement, and even then has many problems – you don’t want to measure education for example. And convention defines IQ as mean 100 and standard deviation 15, which would make IQ depend on what population you’re living in. So there’s an attempt to scale it to white populations only and measure other populations on the white scale.
Pretty consistently blacks measure around 86, so it’s probably a good plan to plan for that when designing the school. If mysteriously the black average rises, that’s great, and who wouldn’t want that. But for planning now, take it as gospel.
Because math is racist, amiright?
Racist is a lot of things. Belief that the average black IQ is 86 is racist but not malevolent, indeed is interested in the best accommodation possible, as you’d do for anybody with an IQ of 86.
There are also malevolent racisms, and it’s a common trick to say that all forms deserve the same disparagement as the malevolent ones. You cut out the solution to the situation as a result, and as a result you have the situation getting worse for 50 years.
Called virtue signalling.
I object to one part of that, your declaration that belief that the average IQ for group Z is X is racist. Truth is not “racist”, it just is. If the belief is incorrect, then your point could have legs, but the 86 number is not pulled out of someone’s arse, it’s an actual number seen in Real World ™.
Now, how you treat individuals members of group Z based on RW AVERAGE numbers for group Z is another kettle of rotten fish entirely.
The problem being reality: “tested average IQ of 86” kids are not the “epitome of brilliance … and untapped potential”, nor will they ever be “innovating solutions through technology”.
This is making the rounds today:
Camus @newstart_2024
“The Trudeau regime has introduced an Orwellian new law called the Online Harms Bill C-63, which will give police the power to retroactively search the Internet for ‘hate speech’ violations and arrest offenders, even if the offense occurred before the law existed.”
Ex post facto law is what the kool kids are doing.
This is not true. There is nothing in the bill that could allow this.
The bill is bad enough as it is; there’s no call to exaggerate or make things up about it.
I shall believe the Spectator over you, I think.
https://www.spectator.co.uk/article/justin-trudeau-is-creating-a-canadian-thought-police/
Nothing in that article supports Tiki’s claim. That makes you a liar.
Part 3 of Bill C-63, which is still at first reading stage and is not yet law, adds to the Canadian Human Rights Act:
Which part of the proposed proposed law is objectionable, if not the threat of ex post facto?
I enjoy the part when a you, a lifelong lawyer, gets all steamed and frothy. So hot!
And the feigned outrage pointing Tre as liar? As if he’s a mustache twisting villain readying to run Penelope Pureheart on a lumber mill ripsaw.
“The legislation appears to apply retroactively, meaning you can be hauled up before the Human Rights Tribunal for any material you’ve left online, regardless of its posting date.”
You should actually read something before calling a person a liar.
Tiki:
The whole thing is objectionable. It’s a gross violation of the freedom of speech, and would not be allowed in this country. But there is no ex post facto in it. You can’t get in trouble for having posted something that was illegal at the time. But if it passes you will have a duty to remove it, and can get in trouble if you refuse. More to the point, the platform on which you posted it will be required to remove it. None of that is ex post facto. There are plenty of examples in US law where something that was legal becomes illegal, and if you refuse to cure it you can get in trouble, and nobody has ever objected with a straight face that this is ex post facto.
Also you claimed that it would allow people to be arrested. As far as I can tell the Human Rights Commission can fine people, not have them arrested.
So yes, Tre is a liar for claiming that the article he linked supported your claim.
Diver64:
That is not ex post facto. You cannot be hauled up for having posted something when it was legal. You can only be hauled up for leaving it up after it became illegal. That’s completely normal and there are any number of US laws that have the same effect, and nobody has ever claimed with a straight face that they were ex post facto laws.
When growing opium poppies became illegal, anyone who had been growing them had to uproot his plants, and if he didn’t he could be charged with growing them, regardless of the date on which they were planted.
Or if you’ve been providing services to a foreign organization and it is designated as a terrorist organization, you are required to stop providing them, and can be charged if you don’t. It’s not an excuse to say that it was legal when it opened the account; and that is not ex post facto law.
How does believing one source over another make anyone a liar?
You certainly excel at making friends and influencing people.
Steve, Tre claimed the article said something, which it doesn’t say. That makes him a liar.
And it’s not “one source over another”. There is no source claiming it’s ex post facto. And if you’re not sure, read the text of the bill itself. It’s easily accessible on the web. I found it, you can too.
Azathoth is a demon serving the prince of lies, so this farrago is par for his course.
Growing poppies is not an action. Planting them is an action; growing them simply consists of leaving them alone. When they were banned, anyone growing them had a positive duty to uproot them, and if they didn’t they were committing a crime and could be charged with it, and that was not ex post facto.
In exactly the same way, the bill does not allow anyone to be charged with having posted something at a time when it was legal. But it requires them, now that the post is illegal, to take it down if they can. If they refuse they can be charged with a crime for that refusal, not for having posted it in the first place.
This is a gross violation of the freedom of speech, something we have already come to expect from Canada, indeed from pretty much every country except the USA. But it is not ex post facto law, which is an abomination to which most so-called “free” countries have not yet descended.
The Canadians truly have lost their minds, eh?
Yes, they have, but not to the extent of creating ex post facto crimes. At least not yet. Maybe that’s coming next year. Or maybe the voters will finally throw the Grits out on their ears, and Poilievre can have a stab at repairing some of the damage, at least for a while.
The gallows stand at the ready, trap hinges oiled, nooses knotted, and the red-cap furries knit; but no one hath slipped their mortal coil.
“At least not yet.”
You accused them of proposing an ex post facto law. That just isn’t true. They may do so in the future, but so far there’s no indication of it. What they’re doing is bad enough as it is.
Milhouse, as usual you argue differences that make no difference. The new Canadian law is both compelled speech and compelled silence. It’s in the same category as any totalitarian law dictating what can and cannot be said, based on politics instead of “but, is it arguably true?”. The ex post facto is in that if you refuse to say something you said that’s not a lie is a lie, just because it’s unpopular, you are now a law breaker.
The Master of The Straw Man. Arguing just to show his big brain to the plebes
The claim was that this is ex post facto law. That once the bill becomes law you will be able to be arrested for something that was legal when you did it. That’s an abomination well beyond what this bill does.
You will not be required to say that what you said earlier was not true. All you will be required to do, if this passes, is take your old post down, if you can. It will be a crime to knowingly and intentionally leave it up; it will not be a crime to have posted it in the first place, because so far at least Canada is not so far gone as to make ex post facto law.
Violating the freedom of speech is something we already expect from Canada, as from most countries. This is the only country in the world that truly respects the freedom of speech. So the fact that they’re proposing to ban even more speech is just par for the course. But ex post facto is much much more evil, so it would surprise me if they were going that far, and indeed they are not.
Believe them when they tell you who they are. She’s a elite bigot and racist who calls everyone who disagrees with her a bigot and racist.
There is nothing more satisfying than a Democrat removing their masks in public, and showing the entire world that, like all Democrats, they believe blacks are a lower life form and deserving of their white savior status.
The only thing lower in the minds of democrats than a black, are Jews.
Democrats want to remove blacks through abortion, and Jews through extermination.
A lot of these children start with limited capabilities, and then are short changed by parents who are not motivated to help them achieve their potential.
Especially the ones not lucky enough to have two.
“Of course Black children in the Bronx know what computers are — the problem is that they too often lack access to the technology needed to get on track to high-paying jobs in emerging industries like AI. That’s why I’ve been focused on increasing economic opportunity since Day One of my Administration.”
But doesn’t Systemic Racism (TM) keep African-Americans out of high paying jobs? Besides: academic success is just another form of White Nationalism. And technology is killing the planet, or something.
Why would this be true in a city and school system run almost exclusively by Democrats for decades? When Democrats accuse a place of systemic racism they are always talking about themselves.
The more important, and false, implication is that having a computer makes you a software engineer.
I thought this is what Wakanda was supposed to solve.
“If you know what the word ‘a computer’, then you ain’t black!” — Kathy Hochul in aviators.
Biden counted it out and he agrees that “a computer’ is a word.
“As Barack says, a 3-letter word, jobs. J. O. B. S. Jobs.” — Traitor Joe
Hochul might actually have been right. What do these kids need computers for. They can just go “shopping” at nearby stores and collect reparations by the carload.
Now they know that they should steal computers too. Before they were just weird TV’s with no rap stations.
Playstation, si… iMac, no.
Please Communists just can’t help outing themselves for the racists they are
“Made Andrew Cuomo look good” won’t serve as a talking point for her next election campaign.
Perhaps she is referring to the children’s poor testing in grammar. They don’t know that the word computer is a noun.
Interesting how all of the actual racist statements are made by the same people that are forever falsely accusing their political opponents of being racists.
“Projection” is their Hallmark.
It is why they think there pervasive and systemic racism in the US. They think everyone else is like them.
Bingo
Oh just imagine if Trump had said that, he would have another defamation lawsuit
No, he wouldn’t. Whom would he have defamed? Who could have sued him?
Hint: There is no such thing as group defamation. You can say whatever you like about any group that’s larger than about 25 people.
The vile and racist Dhimmi-crats’ bigotry of low/no expectations, strikes again. And, most black Americans are still too stupid to fathom that they’re being adeptly and perennially exploited by a political party that views them as gullible, easily manipulated and infantilized wards of the State.
Add to that the fact that blacks are being replaced by another group favored by democrats. Illegal invaders of every stripe.
And blacks are finally complaining about it, loudly. They should have done that forty years ago before thirty-plus million were imported to take their jobs.
But to be fair, an embarrassing portion of ALL Americans are too stupid to fathom exactly the same exploitation. Including a distressing majority of females.
Sadly true, yes.
So Hochul is like Biden: “Bronx kids are as smart as white kids.”
Gov Hochul was simply saying the quiet part out loud. She didn’t mispeak, she deliberately chose those particular words to convey her actual biased beliefs and could have chosen to correct herself on the spot. Instead she (and her political/communication team) waited until the negative responses gained steam.
AWFLs (Affluent White Female Leftists) are, IMO, what is driving/enabling the radical shift within the d/prog party, the jurisdictions the d/prog control and in some ways National polices to the fever dream fringes of the left. Expect more in the future. There is a growing cohort of women who are projected to be single and childless some predict over half of women by 2030. That’s on top of those already in that category who have no marriage and no children so they seem to project their anger, frustration or dissatisfaction onto the rest of us. IOW they have no one to love so they project hate.
Well, if they are single with children, someone must have loved them for a bit, even if it was only for a few minutes to get laid.
Then cab fair.
Imagine if Trump said this…or ANY other Republican.
Gov, tell us about that old family plantation your family had long ago.?
Per her own father, that was Kamala Harris, not Hochul.
Sigh, this again? Like most black Americans Harris is descended from slaves and from their owners. That was part of slavery, and one of the worst parts of it.
Rice Univ soon to be offering new course called AfroComputers. Taught by black teacher, with no final exam.
“AfroPuting 101”
Bionics Through Ebonics.
“Poor kids can use computers just as well as White kids.”
“Of course NYC’s black kids know the word “computer”… they wouldn’t steal them and sell them to Asian kids if they didn’t”
Of course she misspoke. What we’re all laughing at is that she pulled a Kinsley (or near-Kinsley) Gaffe. We know that Progs are racist, keeping minorities down so they remain on their plantation (welfare, Dem-voting). This just showed it.
the keep the welfare flowing
the drugs at hand
the violent rhetoric
etc etc
meant to hurt all people but especially poc
poc know this too
but its sooo ingrained
and the schools msm push it as the religion
ho chul stated:
I misspoke
I meant to say
black children dont what a father is
correction:
dont know what a father is
I don’t know who down-voted you, but the fact is that over 70% of Black children are born to unwed mothers. It is possible that some of the fathers ARE involved with the raising of these children, but this is still a very troubling statistic.
and you can go to utube etc and see the vids on gang violence and how many many black males will admit they have no guidance etc and once in a while will try not to
but will mention the lack of fathers
and the down vote??
barak checked in
As a firearms activist, I keep records of incidents involving gun injuries and deaths, including to children (real children, not the 20yo drug dealers that show up in the enemy’s “statistics”), in order to debunk the utility of “safe storage” laws. By and large, real children who die of GSW are more often shot by others than “shoot themselves playing with a found gun.” However, it’s amazing the huge proportion of instances in the latter camp that involve a black child killed playing with a gun found in the home — almost invariably a criminally-obtained handgun possessed by momma’s current boyfriend, who happens to be a felon himself. Not exactly fertile ground for a pissant “safe storage” law to make squat difference.
Another Concerned White Lady heard from.
“They don’t know these things.”
Wow.
