Disney Announces Historic Expansion In Florida, Latest Win for DeSantis
DeSantis defies the doubters, “Not quite what the media/left/corporate GOP were predicting last year…”
Disney’s recent declaration of its most extensive expansion plan in history at Magic Kingdom is yet another feather in Governor Ron DeSantis’ cap.

Following a recent legal battle that was settled out of court, Walt Disney World is starting an expansion known as the “Beyond Big Thunder” project. The project is named after the expansion’s location.
Michael Hundgen, the site portfolio executive at Walt Disney World, shared insights into the scope of this grand venture:
He said the expansion will be about the size of Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge, which occupies about 14 acres. A Disney team is currently on research trips and going through concept design for this expansion area.
Hundgen did not say what themes or stories would exist there – or when this project would be completed.

Previously critical of Disney, Governor DeSantis shifted his stance post-settlement, advocating for further economic development and collaboration.
The Magic Kingdom expansion is one part of a $60 billion investment Disney has said it’s planning for its parks, cruises and experiences over the next decade.

Still can’t pay me to go there.
Indeed. Expansion just means more burly Disney “princesses” hanging around our kids.
You can’t catch rain water off your own roof bc it might screw up a worm habitate……
But dizzey world can dig up 14 acres killing millions of habitates and that’s OK🤨
ENOUGH MONEY CAN DO ANYTHING FOR PROFITS.
The problem with Disney is that Fantasyland ended up devouring all the other genres, and the fantasies are getting more delusional and disturbing with every passing year.
It’s a big win for DeSantis. Proof that the GOP can staunchly criticize corporations’ obnoxious and evil corruption of children, subversion of morally upright values and lazy parroting of Dhimmi-crat propaganda narratives; hold their feet to the fire; and, the companies will still want to do business in the most well-governed and the most fiscally hospitable, tax-friendly environments.
Mind you, Disney is still pushing “woke”/Leftist propaganda in its television series and movies. There is still much work to be done, but, DeSantis is doing his share to right the ship.
Yes — and why it’s NOT a change for DeSantis to start cooperating with Disney. Removing their (illegal) stranglehold on the semi-government of the area is done, so now back to mutually beneficial cooperation.
As Bernie, Liz, and Joe are so fond of saying, “It’s time for Disney to start paying their fair share!
Disney is a huge direct employer. Indirectly lots of other businesses rely on the tourists who go to Disney. While it isn’t a ‘company town’, especially as Disney’s pretensions were slapped down, Disney remains a key employer/diver of tourism for Florida. So long as Disney is focused on core business and being a good ‘corporate citizen’ in FL why wouldn’t any Gov of FL work with them? Perpetual feuds seem stupid to me.
Disney is collapsing, WDW attendance is down, families no longer view the House of Mouse as being family/kid-friendly… this expansion is just throwing good money after bad.
Attendance is down because nobody can afford WDW anymore. My girlfriend and I went there in December—for three nights at their cheapest hotel, plus two days at the parks, just for us two, was $1854. That’s before airfare, food, souvenirs, things like that.
You can go on all sorts of oversea trips that are a lot better and a lot cheaper than WDW
That’s a factor as well, but it’s not the only consideration.
This is the truth.
With no announcements on the theming, it’s a nothing-burger. Disney has an entire organization dedicated to thinking those things up, planning them, and developing the theming — if the Imagineers haven’t done anything, it’ll be years before they even start on the project.
I suspect it will be like Animal Kingdom’s “Dinoland” — cheap carnival rides, cheap theming, and just thrown together so they can say they have something new while Universal is opening an entire new park.
Hmm…more room for trannies with beards in dresses to help little girls embrace their dreams of being a princess. No thanks
Of course they ruined Splash Mountain, the big thunder feature.
As for the beyond…..California Land is boring to the extreme. Star Wars is exceptionally childish and boring. Surely Wakanda is ride potential….not a land…but a ride. Likewise Dr Strange 1. And every one loves Guardians. But don’t make it all about Marvel. Look at some of the more successful cartoons.
