Donald Trump Calls For End Of Bud Light Boycott – Should People Keep Boycotting or Not? (Reader Poll)

Donald Trump Calls For End Of Bud Light Boycott – Should People Keep Boycotting or Not? (Reader Poll)

“The Bud Light ad was a mistake of epic proportions, and for that a very big price was paid, but Anheuser-Busch is not a Woke company … Anheuser-Busch is a Great American Brand that perhaps deserves a Second Chance? What do you think?” — Donald Trump

Out of nowhere, presumptive GOP presidential nominee and former President Donald Trump posted a Truth Social message Tuesday that raised eyebrows among conservatives who had long pushed for Bud Light to continue feeling the pain from their ill-advised association with transgender activist/entertainer Dylan Mulvaney.

Here’s what he wrote:

The Bud Light ad was a mistake of epic proportions, and for that a very big price was paid, but Anheuser-Busch is not a Woke company, but I can give you plenty that are, am building a list, and might just release it for the World to see. Why not, the Radical Left does it viciously to well run, Conservative companies – and people! Very nasty, but it’s the way they play the game! On the other hand, Anheuser-Busch spends $700 Million a year with our GREAT Farmers, employ 65 thousand Americans, of which 1,500 are Veterans, and is a Founding Corporate Partner of Folds of Honor, which provides Scholarships for families of fallen Servicemen & Women. They’ve raised over $30,000,000 and given 44,000 Scholarships. Anheuser-Busch is a Great American Brand that perhaps deserves a Second Chance? What do you think? Perhaps, instead, we should be going after those companies that are looking to DESTROY AMERICA!

It was contra to comments he made in May 2023, where he seemed to endorse the boycott against Anheuser-Busch, which has yet to recover from it:

“It’s time to beat the Radical Left at their own game. Money does talk—Anheuser-Busch now understands that. Great new Book by Wayne Allyn Root. Buy your copy today!” Trump wrote in his post.

In the immediate aftermath of Trump’s call Tuesday for a “second chance” for Bud Light, many of his social media influencers and other supporters fell in line accordingly:

It didn’t take long for their prior tweets, when they were singing much different tunes, to be brought back to light, though:

There’s also the question of if Trump has had a sincere change of heart or if this has anything to do with an upcoming fundraiser:

Trump’s message also comes as a top Republican lobbyist for the company is set to host a fundraiser for the former president next month, with some tickets going at $10,000 each.

Jeff Miller, a close confidant of former Speaker Kevin McCarthy who built his Washington business during the Trump years, announced on X, formerly Twitter, on Tuesday that he would be hosting the fundraiser. The event is set to feature dozens of members of Congress and Republican leadership, as well as Donald Trump Jr.

The younger Trump has also previously defended Anheuser-Busch, saying in an April podcast that the company donated more to Republicans than Democrats and helped McCarthy’s effort to assume control of the House.

“I’m not, though, for destroying an American, an iconic company for something like this,” he said on Rumble. “Frankly, they don’t participate in the same woke garbage that other people in the beer industry actually do who are significantly worse offenders when I looked into it.”

There was also this:

Opinions of course vary, but I’m of the mindset that people should draw their own conclusions on these matters after careful research and contemplation rather than obediently ask “How high?” when a politico urges them to jump. Though good cases can be made for stopping the boycott, as my RedState colleague Brandon Morse did an hour before Trump posted his message, I’m sure there are good ones for continuing it as well.

With all of that in mind, let us put the question to Legal Insurrection readers:

Should people continue to boycott Bud Light?

(Poll will be open until Midnight Pacific Time the night of February 9th.)

I stopped my “Dylan Mulvaney” boycott of Bud Light almost 4 months ago. Nowadays, I don’t drink Bud Light because it’s watery swill.

I’ve boycotted Bud Light since I had taste buds.

Haven’t purchased Transheuser-Busch products in over two decades, so this plea is meaningless to me.

The problem is the brand image has been destroyed. BUDLight is considered a Trans beer. It will take decades and hundreds of millions of dollars to rebuild the image.

And that won’t happen until they publicly and loudly apologize for that mistake and secondly they publicly and loudly denounce transgenderism and liberalism.

      diver64 in reply to 4fun. | February 8, 2024 at 3:54 am

Why should they do that? No other companies do it. I’d prefer companies just stay out of politics and the culture war altogether. If AB goes silent on that crap I’d consider this a win and be done with it. Isn’t changing the behavior the entire point of the boycott? Accomplished.

        Capitalist-Dad in reply to diver64. | February 8, 2024 at 8:34 am

Going back doesn’t apply to me because I’ve never been a fan. If you want to drink a beer do so, but don’t substitute the watered down junk that includes “lite” in its label. Nevertheless, Bud still deserves the pain being inflicted. It has never seen fit to provide a proper apology to its normal customer base, and even the retro ads it produced were an insult to those customers’ intelligence.

One really wishes that Bill Hicks were around to weigh in on this.

Everyone in marketing views us as deplorables.

AB InBev isn’t even an American company. The felt the pain of the most successful conservative boycott in history and they still haven’t issued a mea culpa (and never will). Only a moron would suggest it’s time to end the boycott.

ChrisPeters in reply to TargaGTS. | February 8, 2024 at 4:10 pm

Not only should it not be ended, reminders of what AM InBev did should be sent out. It’s not as if they made a simple mistake.

Tone deaf mistake IMO. When AB finally admits very clearly and very publicly without any equivocation:
1. Bud Light and AB effed up
2. Bud light and AB put the woke agenda above the interested of traditional consumers
3. Bud Light and AB arrogantly decided y’all wouldn’t dare change brands
4. Bud Light and AB are very sorry we chose to put outreach/marketing PR stunt to a tiny fraction of the population who didn’t buy our products over customers who displayed generational loyalty to our brands.
5. But light and AB are aware we further PO our loyal consumers by digging in and claiming we didn’t do anything wrong. Your scorn for us is well deserved.
6. Bud light and AB know we disappointed our traditional consumers and we promise not to do this sort of stupid crap again and we fired everyone associated with all these decisions including the CEO.

Once we get that then maybe they deserve a second chance. Until then? How do consumers offer forgiveness if the offending brand has yet to admit their (several) mistakes and then apologize? It’s meaningless to them until they understand and own up to their errors.

There is no redemption without confession. I feel sure now that the ‘MAGA signal’ has gone out the NPC will all be jumping in line like black Friday to fight for bud light at their local stores and going online to tell everyone not to worry about thinking for themselves just follow the ‘MAGA signal.’

healthguyfsu in reply to CommoChief. | February 7, 2024 at 9:33 pm

He probably got a huge donation as payment for this. No one just puts this out there out of the blue.

Yup. Someone at Bud Light has Trump’s number. They fawned over him and donated a substantial amount (to his legal fees since that is what he’s doing with “campaign” money), so Trump is out singing their praises for cash. Disgusting.

And let’s not forget that it was Trump, Jr. who urged MAGA to stop boycotting, right when it was starting to gain steam!, BECAUSE they donate to the GOP (specifically noting Trump-endorsed now former House Speaker McCarthy). Trumpbots just shrugged, no worries, it’s not like it matters, it says nothing about who they are, what their priorities are, and/or how they are the ones making important decisions based on donor money (as they FALSELY accused DeSantis of doing, proving that they don’t give a damn about corruption as long as it’s their guy who is corrupt).

That’s pretty crazy stuff, there, Fuzzy. And not “ha-ha” crazy. Your obsession with Trump is really weird.

I respect you, Primordial. What is it that strikes you as “crazy” in what I posted? Please be specific because I don’t get your point in this comment. What I wrote is really just what happened and is what is happening now, right? Did I say something that is not true? If so, please let me know so I can give it more thought.

ThePrimordialOrderedPair in reply to ThePrimordialOrderedPair. | February 8, 2024 at 12:43 am

And I respect you, Fuzzy, which is why your anti-Trump tirades are so jarring. They seem very out-of-character – not that I know you at all but just from the other comments and positions of yours that I read.

As to the speculation about Trump’s motivations for this, Trump has never been for sale. Not to anyone. There has never been any inkling that he would change his opinions or policies for cash. The idea is silly, frankly, given all the very public history.

Your argument about money going to the GOP is a bit off, too, because it is well-known that Trump has had nothing but problems from the GOP. Yes, Trump would look to what he thought might be helpful to the conservative movement, and that might include the GOP tangentially, but the idea that he (or Don Jr.) is shilling for the GOP is laughable, really.

It seems pretty obvious to me that Trump is probably just trying to help Dana White out, or has bought some argument that White made about the whole thing. It’s been a year … they took a major financial hit … they’ve learned their lesson … whatever.

I happen to disagree with Trump on this. He has his opinion about it, though, and I have mine. No big deal.

Hmmm, well, Trump Junior explicitly stated that he wanted the Bud Light boycott to end BECAUSE of their donations. Did you miss that part? I linked it. And now, Trump, who owns stock in AB and is hosting an AB fundraiser is urging his sycophants to buy Bud Light . . . for donations to Trump. This is about Trump grifting and grazing on corporate dollars at the expense of the American people, our culture, our life. You can be cool with that, I am not.

Trump is clearly and loudly and out there in your face shilling for Bud Light because they are giving him money. That’s the whole thing, the it. Trump isn’t even hiding it, you have to be truly mind-spun to think this is not about money, not about Trump being bought by Bud Light, not about how cheap Trump really is. This billionaire is selling out American values for the Bud Light bucks. If you support that, fine, but don’t pretend that’s not what it is. Trump is bought and paid for. WORSE, he wants you to defy your own morals to make him rich (or to at least pay his legal bills). And you are. Happily. Your choice, obviously.

ThePrimordialOrderedPair in reply to ThePrimordialOrderedPair. | February 8, 2024 at 2:45 am

You see, Fuzzy, you are blowing this all way out of proportion – “at the expense of the American people, our culture, our life”. First of all, we’re only talking about a friggin beer company. And Trump merely wrote a question:

“Anheuser-Busch is a Great American Brand that perhaps deserves a Second Chance? What do you think?”

AB certainly got punishment for their insane leftist ad move. Trump thinks it was enough of a punishment for the offense. I don’t, but it is not unreasonable for someone to think the tens of billions that AB lost was just punishment. And, as I said, his friend Dana White is on AB’s side so that might have had an effect.

Trump is not out selling Bud Light. He’s just telling people that he might be finished with the boycott of it. He’s not the first.

To turn this into some grand grifting scheme about a company that will annihilate America is a bit much. It’s beer. Trump has some stock in AB and is seeing some fundraising from AB/AB lobbyists … big whoop.

As to his legal problems and mounting bills … you understand that the democrats all across the country, abusing every lever of government power, are trying to imprison Trump and take away every penny he has. They would kill him if they thought they could get away with it. In a second. They might, yet. That insane New York real estate trial – which is the most ridiculous, insane show trial ever – is looking to take hundreds of millions from Trump; to take over his properties and sell them for nothing, and to stop him from ever doing any business in New York (or with any New York entity, I’m sure) again. It is beyond crazy, really. This country has NEVER seen anyone persecuted like Trump is experiencing. Ever. And they are all made-up joke charges that anyone with even half a brain, or an once of integrity, would have thrown out of court from the beginning and sanctioned the criminals who brought them. So, I would not make light of his very serious legal situation. THAT is the thing that is likely to tear this country to shreds because they are burning the whole judicial system to ram this junk through.

The rest of it … it’s beer and some sick ads. The company suffered tens of billions in losses. Maybe that was just punishment for the offense. I don’t think so but reasonable people can disagree on that.

          Primordial,

Your well reasoned arguments stands at opposites to those made by the raving loons on the nEVeR tRuMp bus.

As you point out they have very consistent, well thought out positions on many topics discussed but as soon as it involves Trump they become start raving lunatics incapable of rational, coherent thoughts. I mean they’d rather have a near 90 yo child fiddler intent on the destruction of the US of A than having Trump in the WH with his never ending peace and economy that delivered for all sections of society.

It’s just bonkers that these people become maniacs at the very mention of his name 😂😂

With all due respect, I would have to say that Trump IS, in fact, for sale. However, it is POPULARITY, not cash, that he seeks.

Over the years, this has been proven by trial balloons on various policies being floated, and after obvious rejection by the base, their retractions.

My guess is that sufficient push-back on the notion of forgiveness for the Dylan Mulvaney debacle would have Trump trying to have it quietly fade away.

          ChrisPeters,

You mean he might go along with the will of the people? I mean that is outrageous behaviour worthy of removal from all 50 States as a Presidential candidate!!

No actions are forgivable with a simple ‘I am sorry’. Got to confess what you did first otherwise it’s meaningless. Nor is ‘mistakes were.made’ or ‘I/We accept responsibility’ worth a bucket of spit without specifying in detail the actions they are ‘sorry about’.

Without that step the person or entity isn’t expressing remorse for their action instead they are just attempting to mitigate the damage of being caught.

I jokingly ask his wife if he has problems getting an erection lately.

He’s a former Marine, and spent his years making comments about me being Air Force, and he was relentless.

So now he has no position to fall back on. I am glad that I no longer have to make fun of his IQ, or giving him thick crayons and coloring books for birthdays and Christmas.

I felt bad making fun of the Neanderthal branch of service.

Agreed. A-B needs to make a very vocal and public statement condemning wokeism.

That said, if you have to count calories and sacrifice taste when selecting your beer, you have bigger problems than its role as “trans”mission fluid.

Sanddog in reply to Dimsdale. | February 8, 2024 at 4:37 pm

AB missed the opportunity. When I saw the ad with Manning (?) ordering a Bud Lite in a bar and the crowd shot of people with the looks on their faces saying “oh, he’s drinking Bud Lite so now we can, too!” they missed the point completely. The marketers did make a major mistake, and they should acknowledge it … which could make for a very entertaining and funny Super Bowl commercial. More importantly, InBev is a big company so I suspect that more than half of the lost sales from Bud Lite were replaced by sales of other InBev brands so Trump’s magnanimity was unnecessary and misplaced.

MajorWood in reply to CommoChief. | February 12, 2024 at 2:39 pm

AHB response is as sincere as the alcoholic who promises to only drink on the days that end with “y.”

Never forgive, never forget.

The company has tried to “make nice” and to win back its lost customers with more traditional advertising, but the rot that brought about the Dylan Mulvaney disaster is still in its bones.

Don’t be fooled.

Mistake President Trump

Mistake

And though it once was an American company,
It no longer is

I do feel for the farmers and others involved in this disaster, but the biggest disaster is that the beer sucks, all light beer does in fact

Weak beer for week men, maybe it should be in its own category

Trans Beer, light beer for weak men

It has been several decades since I have had any AB product. I am not boycotting AB for its advertising (I never saw any of this advertising), but I don’t/won’t buy it regardless, because I don’t like the products.

Hard to resume, when I never purchased before….

It is a problem I have with a lot of the ‘boycott the left’… I did not buy it in the first place….

Forgiveness in business and in personal relations requires genuine contrition and a demonstrated willingness to change behavior; as in, actions.

I’m not convinced that Transheuser-Busch management has displayed those traits. The company writing significant checks to GOP candidates, with none given to Dhimmi-crat candidates, would be a step in the right direction.

guyjones in reply to ChrisPeters. | February 7, 2024 at 10:34 pm

If you won’t let them buy forgiveness, then, what are your terms? To posit that a company can never redeem itself of a “woke” mistake — if a sincere desire to repent is present (I don’t see that in this case, to be clear) seems inflexible and unfairly rigid.

I’m not saying that Transheuser-Busch deserves forgiveness; only that, under the right circumstances, it could happen.

His point, I believe, is that they have NOT apologized or even admitted they made a mistake, this attempt to rescue Bud Light is based on MONEY, money donated to Trump (thus the “buying forgiveness”). If you think they apologized, post the link. Until then, they are attempting to buy MAGA through Trump, they want it to go away without any acknowledgment that they insulted their consumer base BECAUSE TRUMP SAID SO. You get this right?

Fuzzy you and I have agreed to disagree a couple of times …

At least Japan signed an unconditional surrender.

Transgender Bush has not done so.

          There is a difference.

This isn’t a boycott at this point. People have switched their habits and have no intention of going back.

Bud Light got away for a long time because it was 1) reasonably cheap, 2) had a baseline level of quality (not HIGH quality, but you wouldn’t get horrible quality), and 3) Pretty much every place that sold beer had it on draft.

So Bud Light drinkers never had to actually drink anything else, because no matter where they went, they could get a Bud Light.

When AB pissed everybody off, they were essentially forced to branch out into alternate drinks, and were forced to realize that Bud Light was not exactly the pinnacle of beer taste.

They all switched to different drinks, and have no INTEREST in going back, regardless of anything else.

And, of course, the core issue.

Anheuser Busch HAS NOT ADMITTED IT WAS WRONG. They’ve done literally everything possible to NOT admit that they made a mistake, and what the mistake was.

Those customers are gone, and not coming back.

I’m sticking with the boycott out of principle.

Unless they offer me $500,000. Then they totally deserve a 2nd chance!

… But will still hope that my friends buy Yuengling for our poker nights.

Oops, was I not supposed to say that out loud?

I love Yuengling! I used to love this Boston beer called Pete’s Wicked Ale, it was SO good. But they went out of business, so I was shopping around for another affordable beer with some body and flavor and goodness. I found Yuengling and have never looked back. PLUS they are an actually American company and still produce their product in the good old U.S. of A. Trump is pitching a foreign-owned beer as “American.” Clueless as usual.

MajorWood in reply to Olinser. | February 12, 2024 at 2:18 pm

My dad taught us that the first rule of business is to never let your customers discover your competition. In beverages, the key is brand loyalty. In Ohio they used to have the “low beer” law where beer with alcohol below 3.2% could be purchased by 18-21 yo. There were only about a half dozen big breweries who could justify doing this, and thus they could establish brand loyalty to keep those customers drinking their swill when they reached 21 and better (foreign, micro) beer was available. I know people in their 60’s who still drink Strohs because it is what they drank when they were 18. The whole marketing think with Dylan was not about being a tranny, but about having 10 million followers who would glom onto bud light as a solution to their problems. AHB was simply pre-selling alcoholism to a vulnerable underage crowd. Targeting a population of veulnerable minors prone to mental illness with what is basically alternative drug therapy is the sick part of this. AHB had to go with the tranny because normal healthy people aren’t on instagram and don’t have 10M vulnerable followers.

What boycott? Who cares enough about Bud Light anymore to go out of their way to ignore it? Hell, I don’t even know where you could buy it these days.

DW, undisputed queen of the supermarket, came home with a couple of 12-packs last month. When I asked her why she did that, she said that with the giveaway price that week, plus the contents of her coupon cornucopia, she actually left Safeway with MORE money than she had when she went in… plus the two packs of beer.

ThePrimordialOrderedPair | February 7, 2024 at 9:19 pm

I’m not a beer drinker … and I’ve never understood the point of “light” beers, myself, but I am in no mood to forgive Anheiser Busch for anything. I don’t see where they ever atoned for their pathetic pandering to the most insane, deluded and increasingly dangerous segment of society.

In general, I don’t accept apologies – words mean nothing; anyone can say anything. If someone wants to make amends for a transgression or mistake they have to atone for it – they have to pay a fair punishment and provide restitution to make it right, not just try to pretend it never happened and hope that everyone else forgets too.

I don’t care who wants to forgive AB. I don’t. They haven’t done anything to merit forgiveness – the operative word being “done”. Actions are all that matter. Words are free and meaningless by themselves.

Don’t watch the SB either, with multiple “national” anthems, kneeling players and groveling management.

So Bud Light bought Trump right before the SB. Interesting.

Easy enough to make your own Light beer that tastes just like Bud’s.

All you need is real beer, a horse and a bucket.

My days of not drinking AB products have come to a middle.

Anheuser-Busch cooperative growers.

My question being how those co-op contracts function after Bud Light destroyed the brand, but previous to the 2023 rice and barley harvest.

I voted yes, but I would reconsider if AB sincerely apologized for the specific event (not just “we’re sorry if you were offended”) AND announced the formation of a fund to fight gender transitioning of minors.

Perhaps if they used some of that prime SB advertising time to publicly wear sack cloth and ashes, begging forgiveness.

THAT I would watch and consider.

MarkS in reply to MTED. | February 8, 2024 at 7:43 am

any apology now would not be sincere, only a financial ploy

TargaGTS in reply to MTED. | February 8, 2024 at 9:01 am

That’s not going to happen. One of the few Americans remaining on the AB inBev Board of Directors is a woman who’s a MILITANT lesbian activist who’s hugely politically active. So long as she remains on the board, nothing is going to change.

MajorWood in reply to MTED. | February 12, 2024 at 2:05 pm

It was never about gender transitioning, it was all about marketing their product to underage future bud drinkers. Ask yourself about “who” “it” was influencing. 95% were confused borderline mentally ill minors. So lets steer them towards a product that is great at solving temporary problems (and even better at making significantly larger problems). THAT is the real issue at hand. They were using ‘it” as a tool to market their product towards a vulnerable population. That, to me, is the unforgivable sin here. The rest is just frosting.

surfcitylawyer | February 7, 2024 at 10:17 pm

The last time I drank Budweiser was February 15, 2015, and it was Budweiser Budvar. It was the original from the Czech Republic. We were on a train from Wien (Vienna) to Praha (Prague).

    I second that sentiment.

“[ Plzeň ] is known worldwide as the home of Pilsner beer, created by Bavarian brewer Josef Groll in the city in 1842; today, the Pilsner Urquell Brewery is the largest brewery in the Czech Republic.”

    I love a real pils.

Oh yes Czech Budweiser produce of Ceške Budjovice. Pretty good beer although the aftertaste is a little sweet for me.

      Virginia42 in reply to Ironclaw. | February 8, 2024 at 8:59 am

Unfortunately we “sugar up” decent beers from Europe in the US, ruining the taste of them. Warsteiner (German) is a good example. The imported version doesn’t taste right. We can ruin a good pilsner in this country.

Czech Republic was very wise to separate from Slovakia, and ban all illegal immigration, thereby avoiding civil war like happened in Yugoslavia. Where else could that lesson be applied nowadays??

    hmmmm

Anheuser-Busch has never apologized to their customers for the insult. Until they do that I don’t suggest anyone by their garbage beer.

Boy oh boy did I butcher that town name.

České Budějovice

It really bothers me that Trump looks to be for sale just like the rest of them. I thought his wealth somewhat insulated us from that.

He’s always been for sale. He was never wealthy enough to be “insulated” from greed and grift. Few are. Maybe none.

    henrybowman in reply to jb4. | February 8, 2024 at 12:48 am

Recall our common conclusion about our social icons in the entertainment world: the reason that the ones in our fathers’ generation were much more widely admired is because they wisely kept their mouths shut on divisive subjects such as their personal political opinions.

As a politician, Donald Trump needs to learn the same lesson, only in converse. He needs to stick to politics, and leave debates over the social acceptability of sexual deviancy to others, such as our experienced experts in Hollywood.

Of course, such discretion runs counter to every instinct in Donald Trump’s body.

Dimsdale in reply to henrybowman. | February 8, 2024 at 1:00 pm

I agree, but the Dems have made sexual deviancy integral to our politics.

Which is why it cannot be ignored much less sailed on for grift and graft. Trump has taken his side in the culture wars, which we already knew, and it’s against us. Against America. Against decency. Against keeping kids free from porn in their classrooms. Trump doesn’t give a darn what is happening in our nation’s classrooms, and he sure doesn’t care about the trans movement sexualizing little children or making sex the focus of life (ala Bud Light). Trump ignores and lets evil fester and grow. I cannot abide that.

He’s not but he’s actually too kind. I thinking Jr had a bit to do with this, Dana White, Kid Rock

So you see Trump as so weak that he changes his entire worldview for . . . random people? Hmmm, interesting, since I see him that way, too, but I see that weakness and ego as a failing.. He sold us out to the genocidal Fauci gnome. You get that he’s not his own man, and apparently are good with that. But doesn’t that disrupt your fake image of Trump as a savior? He’s swayed by Kid Rock, Bud Light, and Fauci. Ooooh, he’s THE MAN. Sad. You so need to think about what you are saying, what you are thinking, and why you are supporting this grifter.

henrybowman in reply to Fuzzy Slippers. | February 12, 2024 at 12:53 pm

I believe that Trump “believes in America,” but drop just one level down on that org chart, and where he stands on any one component of American pride is not something he’s likely to have a rock-solid strong commitment to. The man has not developed strong conservative principles through rational examination. Instead, he is goal-oriented, and we are fortunate that his goal seems to align largely with ours. But he doesn’t know how to reach it through principle, he just does it BAMN… which is exactly how you’d expect a real-estate developer to do things, but not a conservative president. The fact that before his candidacy for president he was not a conservative Republican — or, in fact, even a Republican at all — correctly sets the tone of his political philosophy.

I don’t drink alcohol, but I would say no. Not until they publicly acknowledge they did a dumb thing and speak out against the trans movement.

henrybowman in reply to Othniel. | February 8, 2024 at 12:57 am

Anyone who is paying attention realizes at some point that one of the driving factors of today’s MAGA movement is outrage that our “masters” – political, social, journalistic, educational, and more – continually violate norms, sensibilities, even criminal laws… yet are never punished for any of it, a boon never available to commoners like you or me. Our inherent sense of justice is frustrated and violated every day of the year, and we resent it. Letting AB skate on their enormity of an offense is simply not on the menu today.

If people want to forgive, more power to them. It’s their choice and no one need second guess. Plenty of innocent people suffered because of the stupidity, not just employees of AB. The company lost billions. How much is enough? The episode helped show the broader public woke ideology gone wild. Performative apologies mean little. How they go forward will tell. It’s no surprise to see a company throw money and celebrity at a public with slight attention span. 30 seconds for $7 million? Capitalism was never intended to be high minded.

Financial muscle works both ways. It wouldn’t hurt to see it flex, again. But that’s just me, and I never was a customer.

What does it do if there is no way to recover from a conservative boycott, ever? Then there is no motive to reform in their favor, ever.

As for “most successful Conservative boycott,” doesn’t that title go to Disney? Look at their movie franchises and parks.

Meanwhile, have the wokesters permanently harmed all of our national sports and schools? Is the only answer to let the destruction of all aspects of our culture be permanent? Do we let the bastards have a win-win?

henrybowman in reply to Valerie. | February 8, 2024 at 10:19 pm

“doesn’t that title go to Disney?”
Honestly, It might… but AB got all the popular press, including the daily breakdown of fallen sales for weeks and even months afterward. Disney never got that attention — they may have been hurt as much or more, but fewer people would know it.

MajorWood in reply to Valerie. | February 12, 2024 at 1:57 pm

No chance at recovery means that the next company will hopefully think twice about even starting down that path. Forgiving a company that goes woke is like letting the domestic abuser off the hook. Put a few of them down permanently and maybe the others will get the message.

How long would people like to punish a company that heard the message loud and clear? Took a while but that mentally ill attention Ho is gone, the ditz and her boss that came up with it are gone and AB is now sponsoring MMA and hired Shane Gillis.
If someone attempts to change their ways then it’s a good idea to encourage them. If they fall back then the boycott can easily be started again.

    CommoChief in reply to diver64. | February 8, 2024 at 7:59 am

No admission of specific errors and delay in acknowledging those errors and no apology isn’t the road to redemption.

I like Dana White, Shane Gillis and Trump but I don’t care how much $ Bud Light and AB pay for celebrity endorsements.

    henrybowman in reply to diver64. | February 8, 2024 at 2:05 pm

There’s a difference between repenting/rehabilitating and just serving your time so you can get out and most probably offend again.

MajorWood in reply to henrybowman. | February 12, 2024 at 1:54 pm

There are people who are sober and there are people who are just between drinks. Until wokism hits bottom, it will continue to affect other companies and products. What needs to be sent is the message that adopting it is fatal. Only then will companies make it a policy to not even start to go down that path. As a friend used to say, if you keep going into a barbershop, eventually you are going to get a haircut. We need to make the big companies understand that we draw the line at them going into the barbershop.

    Andy in reply to diver64. | February 8, 2024 at 7:30 pm

Is Mulvaney still on contract to AB? Because I can’t find anything which specifically says he was fired and the company has washed its hands of him.

You can’t boycott something you don’t drink.

RepublicanRJL | February 8, 2024 at 6:23 am

Bub Light needs to die off until there’s not a single can at the factory or store shelves.

It needs to be a hard learned lesson that no other company ever, and I mean ever, do that again.

Kind of like American communism.

Go woke go broke. Ivy league MBA executives wrecked the brand. Only way to resurrect the brand now is to sell it back to original Busch Family, who then replaces the entire C suite. Woke-ism needs to die, like desantis said.

to quote the late great Hoyas coach John Thompson: “To err is human, to forgive is not my policy!”

I don’t have a dog in this fight. I can’t “boycott” a product that I haven’t consumed in probably 35 years. I used to drink the weak, watery swill that American brewers call beer, but while on duty overseas, I discovered what real beer tastes like and have never looked back.

Can’t boycott (or end a boycott) of a product that I don’t use.

One would think that there are far more pressing matters to attend to than cheap beer and some guy pretending to be a woman. But, here we are.

henrybowman in reply to SField. | February 12, 2024 at 12:56 pm

I can not only walk and chew gum at the same time, I can also boycott AB throughout the entire day, every day, with zero additional effort.

Sorry, but this is a sad, stupid move by DJT. Not a good look. It seems more like a Nikki Haley thing. What’s next . . . is he going to be wearing the Nike logo and singing a Taylor Swift song?

    smooth in reply to Q. | February 8, 2024 at 1:38 pm

DJT is way out there. He said trannies could be allowed to compete in Miss USA. He said the White House should have gender neutral restrooms in case Bruce TransJenner visited. He had gay fund raising event at Mara Lago. He said Desantis shouldn’t criticize Disney for it creepy childrens entertainment. Now he’s saying bud lite tranny juice is all american. He’s pandering to gay money donors.

In the more than sixty years I’ve been legally able to buy beer (varies depending on the state or country) a Budweiser product touched my tongue once and once was more than enough. Yuengling, Dos Equis, Labatt’s and many German and Czech beers when I can get them (Ennis Czech Festival is a prime opportunity).

E Howard Hunt | February 8, 2024 at 8:49 am

Trump was paid off. Suds for duds.

I’m all about forgiveness so have already forgiven the mistake in hiring Dylan Whatshisface. What I will not do is forget, however. Businesses are run to do a lot of things but the prime reason they exist is to make money. Someone there thought it would help them make more money to pander to the transgender delusion. That may be fine with a brand that didn’t build its reputation as the drink of the common working man/woman, but won’t work with Bud Light.

The boycott should continue not because they didn’t learn their lesson, but as an ongoing lesson to other traditionally-branded companies to not make the same mistake. There are, after all, plenty of beer from which to choose.

    MajorWood in reply to Rufus6540. | February 12, 2024 at 1:46 pm

The whole AHB marketing campaign was to attract underage drinkers to get them to establish a brand preference early on. My guess is that 95% of the trannies followers were under 21 at the time. It was their version of candy cigarettes.

What AHB failed to realize is that better is the natural enemy of good enough. That and their marketing chick is functionally retarded. She should have vetted the idea in front of an audience wider than her bathroom mirror.

I’m also reminded of a quote from the Civil War where one family member discovered another family member was joining the other side to fight. It goes something like:

He will regret that decision but once in his lifetime, and that will be continuously.

If more companies operated with that in mind maybe we wouldn’t have the need for this, or future, boycotts.

It is not about gay, pronoun, she, her, he, it, trans…..It is about what Bud Light marketing VP Alissa Heinerscheid said in the attached video. After all she and they (Corp BUD) said the brand is in decline. Who wants to drink a “fratty” loser? https://www.dailymail.co.uk/video/news/video-2915545/Video-Bud-Light-VP-talks-pivoting-brands-fratty-touch-humor.html

1. We’re sorry.
2. We’re sorry that our employee and our company insulted you.
3. Girls can’t be boys.

Then I’ll change my “no” vote.

When you’re in a war, you fight to the end. The last time we did that was WWII. You don’t win by agreeing to ceasefires and cessations of hostilities: that way only prolongs the conflict. To resolve the conflict, it must be taken to its bitter end. Otherwise it will just flair up again.

Keep boycotting? When have I note boycotted Budweiser is a better question.

I like beer that has flavor. Budweiser does not, so I’ve always boycotted them.

But should those who stopped drinking Bud Light continue to do so? I would say, “Yes, but you do you so long as you let me do me.”

You 87% are going to boycott Bud Light, but will watch NFL games from end of summer to the twilight of winter turning to spring.

News Flash….. THE NFL Effing HATES you and your values.

I was never a big follower but after they blocked Rush from being part owner of the Rams…. that tells you everything you need to know. Big surprise they are doing two national anthems.

Hitler excluded Jews from ownership before he gassed them. Yes that statement puts me with Gina Carano not being able to work for Disney, but when someone says they hate me with their actions and words, I believe them.

henrybowman in reply to Andy. | February 8, 2024 at 10:01 pm

The NFL is spewing even more lies in its ill-advised advocacy of gun control. Ironic, since they have proven unwilling or unable to control their own players (you may have to sort by the Category column first).

CommoChief in reply to Andy. | February 9, 2024 at 9:29 am

And you know that those of us who voted that way watch the NFL because ….? What data do you have about our viewing habits? I don’t watch the NFL. I might watch the SB or really having it on in background with sound muted as I read then watch the Ads b/c they at least bare entertaining. Other than that I might watch a quarter or less of maybe half a dozen games all season.

Those of us who don’t slobber all over professional sports are rare. I’ve spent most of my life smiling and nodding. Now I live in a red state, it’s even worse on the sports front.

MajorWood in reply to CommoChief. | February 12, 2024 at 1:40 pm

My total NFL time is less than 15 min a season, which usually comes in the form of accidental viewing. In a good year, I won’t even know who is in the superbowl. I only knew of KC as my college roommate lives there and his Candian wife is a huge fan????????

ObieWanKanObie | February 9, 2024 at 12:05 am

I can’t believe Trump would say something this incredibly stupid. Was he reading talking points from the Anheiser-Bush corporate offices?

Note to Trump: this is how you fail. This how you betray your base. This is how you sell out out your base to woke corporations.

More evidence that Trump is a more of a self-absorbed narcissist with no credible foundational worldview than a genuine leader.

I’ll drink whatever I want no matter the political viewpoint. If you boycotted every offensive product, you’d starve to death. BTW, I don’t care for light beers anyway and regular Budweiser gives me a headache after 2. The only people the boycott is hurting are the employees and shareholders.

    Gosport in reply to oldvet50. | February 10, 2024 at 1:40 pm

The employees and especially the shareholders are exactly who the boycott was directed at.

A lesson not to take their customers for granted again.

Rats, I missed the poll. Busy coping with the Flu from Hell.

I’ve been a Bud lady all my life. No A/B products will ever pass through my door again until I hear their apology.

And you know what? This, along with his refusal to come clean on the jab and subsequent myocarditis epidemic, are beginning to make me seriously question Trump’s contention that he’s all we have,

I don’t drink “light” beer. Yuck!

They think that saying “sorry” after slapping someone makes it all good. What needs to be taught is not slapping people in the first place. The end goal is for us not to be fighting these wokesters all the time. These companies need to learn that going down this path isn’t just possibly limited to a painful experience, but rather, it is suicide. Just remember that every person who lost a job at AHB was balanced by a person hired by their competition who was now making and selling more beer.

FWIW, Bud Light in Portland is now $20 for a 30 pack with a $10 mail in rebate coupon, and even the alkies aren’t buying it.

Antifundamentalist | February 13, 2024 at 10:29 am

I don’t drink beer, but I will say that decades ago I stopped buying a particular brand of cereals due to an issue I had with their commercials – a friends’ 3-yo got very upset when he saw a bear beat up a grandmother and steal her breakfast. I’d never really looked at the commercials in that light before, but realised the kid was right. Pretty much all of the commercials revolved around theft. Didn’t make a big deal of it, and it’s been over 3 decades now, and my kids grew up not eating those cereals. Still don’t buy them. It’s a matter of making a principle-based choice and sticking to it.

After the Mulvaney mess, I brought home a 12-pack of Coors and went to put it in the garage fridge — where I found a 12-pack of Bud (not Light) longnecks that I’d forgotten I had.

I enjoyed that 12-pack of Coors.

I won’t buy from a company that is OK with female minstrelsy.

This isn’t about “forgiveness” and it wasn’t a mistake. They were deliberately mocking you, your values, and beer drinkers in that commercial. Now they are trying to manipulate you again by using your religious values to let them off the hook. Don’t fall for it.

AB is your enemy. They truly hate you. They advocate turning your children into transsexuals. Shun them. Boycott all of their products.

It is Trump who made a mistake of epic proportions. Tell Trump to skip the corporate talking points and get with the program. I’m willing for forgive TRUMP this once. But not twice.

The problem with asking for apologies is that it’s not firing the woke idiots that made that decision, and pretty soon they’ll be doing something else just as terrible, but maybe not so public. Nope. If you want to be forgiven, replace enough of the top management that not only won’t they do _that_ again, but the new persons in charge won’t even want to ever do anything like it.

But I suspect the real problem here goes higher than Anheuser Busch or any American executive. The only way to fix it is to fire the foreign company that owns AB.
