Suspect Arrested for Allegedly Attacking an Elderly Jewish Man in Beverly Hills

The police arrested a man in connection with an antisemitic attack on an elderly Jewish couple on their way to a Beverly Hills synagogue on Saturday.

Raphy and Rebecca, who asked NBC4 not to use their last names, are staying resilient after they were attacked while walking to the Beverly Hills Synagogue. While taking their stroll near the area of North Rexford Drive and North Santa Monica Boulevard, a man ran up behind the couple in a robbery attempt.
“All of a sudden, I see the guy hitting my husband with the belt and screaming, ‘Give me your earrings, Jew,'” an emotional Rebecca recalls.
The attacker struck Raphy repeatedly.
“At first, it was shock,” Raphy said. “It was a huge hard knock on my forehead here.” The victim added that the blows left his face bloodied.
Unable to let the attack go, the couple bravely chased after the assailant. That’s when a police officer noticed the commotion and called for backup.
Raphy added, “I was enraged, not because of the thing, but because I was hit as a Jew.”
Raphy wore a yarmulke.
Doctors treated Raphy for a deep cut on his head, giving him four staples.
Raphy still gave a reading at the Young Israel of North Beverly Hills. Rebecca retrieved a clean shirt at home.
Beverly Hills Police Chief Mark Stainbrook said, “This despicable act of hate against a member of our community will not be tolerated.”

I was about to mention that the entire incident screamed “homeless nutjob,” although there was no mention of it here. Making this a halfwit crime, not a hate crime.
According to the victims he did call them “Jew” before demanding their jewelry. So maybe motivated by that.
They should get out of the city, out of California, they are in steady decline and things will only become worse.
Or stay and accept the consequences of the decline. Those are the only realistic paths forward in deep blue enclaves. Their decent has been five + decades in the making and the reversal of that is unlikely in our lifetimes. There doesn’t seem to be a groundswell of overwhelming support in those places for the scale of change required at least from my vantage point.
The groundswell certainly hasn’t arrived in Chicago yet, given the results of the last mayoral election. Or any other blue city of any size.

I myself would be quite willing to drop the hate crime charges, in return for getting him committed to a loony bin that would keep him.
News reports on the weekend gave the victims’ ages as 75 and 70. I’ve got to say that they’re looking great for those ages, especially him for 75. I wouldn’t have guessed him to be over 50.
