Republican Rep. Mike Johnson Elected as Speaker
He needs 217 Republican votes.

We have a Speaker of the House. Louisiana Republican Rep. Mike Johnson won with all Republicans voting for him.
BREAKING — Rep. MIKE JOHNSON has won the House speakership. Every House Republican voted for the Louisiana Republican, vaulting him from the vice chairmanship of the House Republican Conference to the chamber's top position.

12:51 PM ET: Getting ready for the Speaker vote. Only 429 members so the magic number is 215. Still can only lose 4 GOP votes.
On quorum call before Speaker vote, 429 mbrs rpt to the chamber. 215 would be the magic number if all mbrs vote for a candidate by name. 4 absences

The House convened at 12 PM ET. The vote will happen today.
The House of Representatives will hold a Speaker vote on the floor today.
The quorum call will start at noon, followed by nomination speeches.
The GOP will nominate Rep. Mike Johnson, Republicans will applaud, yada yada yada.
The Democrats will nominate Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Democrats will applaud, yada yada yada.
1) What To Watch For If Johnson Is Elected Speaker This Afternoon
It is far from clear that the House will elect a Speaker today. But one reason why some Republicans might finally tap Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA) as Speaker is pure exhaustion.

If we end up with Johnson, then this will all have been worth it. He’s a much ore orthodox conservative than McCarthy and more articulate as well…
…which is why I’m skeptical he’ll be elected. I hope that skepticism turns out to be misplaced.
From what I’ve heard of Johnson, he’s one of the good guys. I hope they get him voted in as Speaker.
Annnnnd it’s done!
Wow. No one pulled a fire alarm “by mistake”. this time.
First thing, he asked the Republican conference to bow their heads and pray. Glimmer of hope, dare I say it?

A little better than Emmer not as good as Donalds on voting record. I don’t know any of them well, to be honest.
But it seems like a modest upgrade. I would have to go through the voting record in-depth to have a better sense
If Byron is a real deal conservative as his voting record implies, then I am annoyed they gave away a chance to do something historic and make a major upgrade but i am happy if a couple RINOs go down in flames and the establishment wrongs their hands over whoever is elected … that would be a start
Byron, give him time, he will. Have voted you don’t appreciate
Honestly, I’ve never heard much about Johnson.
But literally everybody I don’t trust is out there screaming that Johnson is horrible and terrible, so I’m willing to give him a shot.
The fourth time is a charm, but unfortunately there is no Prince Charming.
The Democrats are going around calling him an election denier and a impeachment impeeder, so he’s go to be good.
That’s as good an endorsement from the communists as you’re likely to see.
I don’t want to Jinx it but … no I won’t jinx it.
Well I didn’t jinx it.
Let’s not forget the “in the know” voices said Bill Barr was fair and reasonable.
Well, after three weeks of stepping all over their johnsons, the Republicans elect…a Johnson. Kismet.
Darn, the Democrats have to start a new meme to distract from them supporting baby killers
At least we know Gaetz is satisfied with the result:
Gaetz was fine with either Jordan or Scales as was I. Maybe Johnson won’t insult Goetz and put his hands on him on the Floor trying to embarrass him like McCarthy did in a classless move which came back to bite him…hard.
Maybe now McCarthy will retire and join Boehner with Ryan to lobby the Swamp and get rich
I read that he has millions in real estate holdings. What’s your definition of rich?
Can someone verify?
Is it a good thing? That remains to be seen. Hopefully they’ve kept the same rules in place and that this guy won’t be saying “they wouldn’t dare.” No omnibuses, no CR’s and I’d love to see not one more penny sent to that mess in Ukraine. Secure our own borders before you worry about another country, and if the pedophile in the white house won’t go along with that simply refuse to fund anything for the bastard.
He did say that they were going to bring up a bill supporting Israel, but he did not mention Ukraine. –
A step up from Emmers, about the same as Jordan or McCarthy. We’ll see when the crunch comes in a couple of weeks if the Republicans don’t come together on a spending plan.
Absolutely NOT in no way same as McCarthy or Jordan
which is a good thing
I feel confident that if the proposed spending plan follows the contours of what the members of GoP caucus ran on in their CD they shouldn’t have any problem voting for it. If it doesn’t then not so much.
The first key is individual appropriation bills. That alone precludes lots of shenanigans v an omnibus. The next key is passing them out of the HoR using GoP votes with any d/prog votes as a welcome extra but unnecessary for passage. Do that and there’s not much room for legitimate complaints in the GoP caucus. Both of those would have precluded McCarthy’s ouster.
Will the Senate with Schumer as Majority leader accept the product of the HoR GoP caucus? Will Biden sign it? Probably not but those are decisions for the Senate and the President to make. It isn’t the job of the HoR to worry about what the Senate or WH may or may not accept. At least not until the regular order has been followed and certainly the HoR and the GoP caucus has no more responsibility to worry about what can pass the Senate or that the Executive will sign than they have responsibility to worry about what the HoR GoP caucus will accept.
Pass the regular order appropriations with what is acceptable to the GoP caucus and then worry about all the rest. And if the Senate and WH refuse to act in good faith then hold the line until they decide to act in good faith. Everyone gonna have to give some but the GoP HoR caucus doesn’t have to give more than they can tolerate. It’s past time the DC establishment was reminded of that.
One small
Step for mankind
Send a single bill for aid to Israel. Let Schumer try and screw over his own Jewish constituents. Let D’s vote against it in the House and Senate. Or better yet let Xiden veto it. Then put
Up the Ukraine bill and send it down in flames. I’m tired of sending money to one of the most corrupt countries in the world. FJB
Johnson seemed to be suggesting that.
He seemed to be suggesting that he would bring that bill up today.
I don’t see it as supporting Ukraine, but as opposing Putin’s intentions to re-create the Russian Empire. It’s like Hitler and the Rhineland – stop him there, or have a much worse fight to stop him later.
ALLEGEDLY, Johnson got elected because McCarthy got exposed as the one ringleading the RINO group to vote down everybody else so they would concluded that they ‘had’ to bring that sacred ‘moderate’ McCarthy back in.
Allegedly, prior to the vote somebody moved to have a poll of members if Johnson was acceptable, and the one that tried to object to this simple action was…. McCarthy.
Allegedly, McCarthy had convinced a bunch of them to secretly write-in McCarthy when it came time to vote on Johnson, but when they demanded an on-the-record voice vote, they got scared and voted Johnson in.
Allegedly,
I completely believe it, and if true, demonstrates what an absolute scumbag McCarthy is.
That sounds on brand for the GOPe.
On the record votes should be the norm; it’s a disinfectant to corruption.
Where are you getting all this Alledged action from? I’d like to read it for myself

Its been reported a few places. I read it at Ace of Spaces, but he was linking the original story from Deb Heine at American Greatness (no paywall here)
https://amgreatness.com/2023/10/25/gaetz-mccarthy-tried-to-sabotage-vote-for-new-house-speaker-mike-johnson/
If the allegations are true, then McCarthy is truly a scumbag of the first order.
Deb Heine is a trustworthy ally.
Matt Gaetz said it to Steve Bannon.
the Dems hate him … that is good enough for me …
Kevin tried to get himself installed back as speaker with Jorden as asst. speaker whatever that is.
glad that got shot down.
now lets get to work.
Thank God and Gaetz!
It sounds to me like things are finally coming together, Rather intentional or not, TDS has helped fully expose numerous bad players. I am wondering how many more are hidden in the shadows.
Remember, 208 Democrats joined 8 Republicans to remove Speaker McCarthy
They could have killed it easily on one of the procedural votes but didn’t.
They own this
