‘Politically Motivated’: Sen. Menendez Won’t Resign Despite Indictment on Federal Bribery Charges
“Instead of waiting for all the facts to be presented, others have rushed to judgment because they see a political opportunity for themselves or those around them.”
Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) won’t resign despite pressure from those in his own party.
Menendez and his wife face federal bribery charges:
From at least 2018 up to and including in or about 2022, MENENDEZ and his wife, NADINE MENENDEZ, a/k/a “Nadine Arslanian,” the defendant, engaged in a corrupt relationship with three New Jersey associates and businessmen—WAEL HANA, ida “Will Hana,” JOSE URIBE, and FRED DAIBES, the defendants—in which MENENDEZ and NADINE MENENDEZ agreed to and did accept hundreds of thousands of dollars of bribes in exchange for using MENENDEZ’s power and influence as a Senator to seek to protect and protect HANA, URIBE, and DAIBES and to benefit the Arab Republic of Egypt. Those bribes included cash, gold, payments toward a home mortgage, compensation for a low or-no-show job, a luxury vehicle, and other things of value.
The senator stepped down as chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations committee. But Majority Leader Chuck Schumer said the move is “temporary” until everything gets resolved.
New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy called for Menendez’s resignation. Almost all of the state’s Democratic House delegation joined the governor. AOC said Menendez should resign. N
Menendez insists he didn’t do anything wrong:
MENENDEZ: “The court of public opinion is no substitute for our revered justice system. We cannot set aside the presumption of innocence for political expediency when the harm is irrevocable. To those who have rushed to judgment you have done so based on a limited set of facts framed by the prosecution to be as salacious as possible. Remember, prosecutors get it wrong sometimes.”

Menendez has every excuse in the book. He even used his family’s life in Cuba:
MENENDEZ: “Third, for 30 years, I have withdrawn thousands of dollars in cash from my personal savings account, which I have kept for emergencies and because of the history of my family facing confiscation in Cuba. Now this may seem old fashioned, but these were monies drawn from my personal savings account based on the income that I have lawfully derived over those 30 years.”

Politically motivated:
MENENDEZ: “Instead of waiting for all the facts to be presented, others have rushed to judgment because they see a political opportunity for themselves or those around them.”
Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ), facing growing calls to resign over his corruption and bribery-related indictments, argues the calls are rooted in ulterior motives:

I can’t decide who I believe less, the DOJ or a Democrat senator.
I’m sure it was politically motivated. He was motivated to stay in politics after he was charged years ago and got away with it.
Was he really arrested because he didn’t kick back 10%?
Of course it was politically motivated. He stayed in politics because it paid so well in so many ways.
If I were the Pub challenger to Senator Goldbrick in ’24, I would —
— hand out chocolates wrapped as gold bullion bricks at campaign stops
— have a small cadre of workers appear at the Senator’s campaign stops dressed as Honor Blackman in ‘Goldfinger’
— point out in my campaign comments that the Senator has been “good as gold” for himself but not for New Jersey
The point: hammer this home. For Menendez it’s the same issue as former Illinois congressman and W&M Committee chair Dan Rostenkowski had with postage stamps. Everyone knew Rusty was dirty but no one back home cared until he was caught stealing the stamps from his office — THAT his constituents could understand was wrong.
And do all this in October, or else the Dems will replace Menendez as they did once before…
Something that glided right on by but was briefly noted: he or one of his spokesmen played the Latino card already; that this is nothing more than a way to get some poor oppressed Latino removed from office blargle blargle blah blah.
Yeah, that crafty AOC, agitating to rid congress of Latinos!
If things get rough at trial, he can always call Hunter as a character witness.
Hunter would be a better choice than Joe.
“Sure, I knew Mendoza from when I was an all-star designated hitter and he caught the touchdown pass in the Final Four.”
Hell, for 10% of what Bob had hidden in his wardrobe, Old Joe would probably show up for him.
Considering that relative lack of interest in prosecuting the Bidens, not to mention the Clintons, I can see why he’d think he wasn’t doing anything unusual in taking a few bribes.
Senator Pumpkinhead.
It’s politics alright.
Let Menendez claim bias.
DOJ gets to say we’re not bias.
Biden gets another distraction.
OK, gang, time to give Fetterman (or his staff) credit. Fetterman has said that he is going to return Menendez’s campaign contribution to Fetterman of $5000.
In envelopes.
Stuffed with $1000 bills.
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Sigh “$100 bills”
Fetterman might even still have the original envelopes Menendez gave to him.
He is getting off easy!
There are not any income tax evasion counts and there should be!
What? Gold bars are income?
Who knew?
The ones you didn’t buy are.
It almost makes you wonder why they’re going after him when all of the other Communists get off Scot free
My theory: They have an open-and-shut case against him and the Dem leadership knows it. He’s going to the sacrifice to show the American People that the Democrats take bribery seriously, and “Oh-by-the-way, if the Biden bribery accusations had any merit, we’d be handling this the same way. Trust us.”
They want him to resign so Murphy can appoint a better candidate for 2024.
Murphy probably wants that lifetime gig for himself
Gotta wonder if Torch and or Knees have started warming up in the bullpen yet.
“for 30 years, I have withdrawn thousands of dollars in cash from my personal savings account, which I have kept for emergencies and because of the history of my family facing confiscation in Cuba”
Other than the “30 years” part, I’m oddly inclined to allow this. Menendez is a senior member of the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee. This guy ground all the original sausage, and if anybody can see the resultant sewage approaching the fan, it would be him.
If the government forces a digital currency on America then what is that cash going to be worth and with the inflation we are suffering under, in 10yrs that cash won’t buy squat anyways
Hence, the gold.
No fan of Menendez, however the choice whether to resign his position is only his to make. Now if he is convicted or pleads guilty that is an entirely different matter.
‘Politically motivated’ huh Menendez?
Well your side controls the DoJ so who exactly did you piss off? Forget to give the big guy his 10%?
Odds are the NJ Democrat crime family bosses have already scheduled a sit-down a la “The Sopranos” to deal with the “Bobby M problem.”
I’m going to wait until he shows bank records from all those withdrawals. Who knows why he had that money and people do buy gold bars. You can go online and get them so he should have a receipt for buying those too unless he claims he paid cash at a coin show. That car, though. Please explain why someone with business in a foreign country just gave you a car when you had enough cash on hand to just go get one?
“MENENDEZ: “The court of public opinion is no substitute for our revered justice system. We cannot set aside the presumption of innocence for political expediency when the harm is irrevocable. ”
Hunh, I wonder if you think this about all the lawsuits against Trump?
Actually, he wasn’t that bad in his statements on Trump.

Hey, Sen. Menendez, it’s a good thing that you have Sen. Booker watching your back. He’s totally solid! You DID give him a cut, . . . didn’t you??
Menendez was indicted and tried in a case that resulted in a mistrial because he had strongly opposed the iran deal-I suspect that he is being tried to divert attention away from the glaringly obvious corruption involving the First Crime Family
