Utah Republican Sen. Mitt Romney won’t run for reelection in 2024.
“I have spent my last 25 years in public service of one kind or another. At the end of another term, I’d be in my mid-eighties. Frankly, it’s time for a new generation of leaders. They’re the ones that need to make the decisions that will shape the world they will be living in,” Romney said in a statement obtained by Fox News Digital.
“We face critical challenges—mounting national debt, climate change, and the ambitious authoritarians of Russia and China. Neither President Biden nor former President Trump are leading their party to confront them.
“On the deficits and debt, both men refuse to address entitlements even though they represent two thirds of federal spending. Donald Trump calls global warming a hoax and President Biden offers feel-good solutions that will make no difference to the global climate.”
With respect to China, Romney said, “President Biden underinvests in the military and President Trump underinvests in our alliances. Political motivations too often impede the solutions that these challenges demand. The next generation of leaders must take America to the next stage of global leadership.”
“While I’m not running for re-election, I’m not retiring from the fight. I’ll be your United States Senator until January 2025. I will keep working on these and other issues and I will advance our state’s numerous priorities. I look forward to working with you and with folks across our state and nation in that endeavor,” Romney said.
“It is a profound honor to serve Utah and the nation, and I thank you for giving me the opportunity to do so.”

He won’t be missed
“I have spent my last 25 years in public” disservice. One RINO down. Hopefully Utah will not elect another RINO in his place.
He was a good governor in MA but only won that seat because the Democrat candidate was truly an incompetent moron.
He never seemed to grasp how low Democrats would stoop to win elections and maintain control despite being pummeled by Ted Kennedy in the Senate race here in MA (before he became Governor) and smeared endlessly by the Obama machine in 2012 an election Romney never should have lost. He showed backbone once in the second debate that year but couldn’t follow it through and we all paid the price and still are.
Time for Mittens to spend time with his family. He doesn’t want to end up like this Mexico E.T. does he?

Translation: “I don’t have a chance of winning after screwing my constituents for 6 years”. So much for carpetbaggers.
You mean Utahans weren’t impressed Mitt Romney decided to March along with Black Lives Matter rioters? Who knew?
Being a Mormon will only get you so far. Even in Utah.
I called him that to his face at a delegate mtg 5 years ago. He was not pleased. LOL
Later when I spoke to friends who were delegates in other parts of the state, I would mention that; most did not know what a “carpetbagger” is. When I defined it, they agreed. And laughed
I do not think he would win again. I also suspect that anyone he endorses will also be toast. But I moved out of state, so not my rodeo this year.
Romeny really suffers from little person syndrome, petty and small minded.
Dear Mitt,
Go F*ck yourself. you are a waste of human skin. Please remove yourself from public life as you have done nothing to even slow the decline of this country, let alone save it.
In other news, Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead.
Eva Peron visited Franco and the crowd shouted at her motorcade from the airport, “Whore! Whore!”
Person complained to Franco. Franco explained that he’d been retired from the military for over a decade but people still called him General.
Kamala Harris relevance.
And the peasants rejoice.
I honestly didn’t think Mittens was either smart enough enough to realize that he has lost all credibility with voters and could not win reelection. It’s good to see a suck-up like Romney get his just “reward.” Going along to get along can only take a mediocre mind and twisted personality so far, thank god.
Usually voting to impeach the president of your own party is a career ender, especially when the charges are ridiculous.
Leave us hope. What about those blue state voters who keep electing their communists?
A new generation of uniparty grifters.
A son perhaps?
Good riddance, Pierre.
Pierre is nothing but a dehydrated Frenchman.
I thought “Carlos Danger” was a superb handle until “Pierre Delecto” arrived. That name is epic
Good and it looks like Jeb Bush’s sons lawfare attempt to overturn the Texas AG election is failing so the GOPe globalists lose key players in both Utah and Texas.
He doesn’t want to be another Liz Cheney.
Too late for that.
I’m not going to get into a discussion of his choice of pronouns.
Subotai Bahadur
There is a God.
now the dims will have to find someone to replace him
I was glad when he left Massachusetts, now I’m glad he’s leaving public life. What a pathetic invertebrate.
Best news in years.
Why wait? Resign now
His son was also in deep with Barisma. He’s bailing before he gets implicated.
Not his son.
Joseph Cofer Black, a former CIA operative who served as Romney’s special adviser in his 2012 campaign for President, was on the Barisma board along with Hunter Biden.
Maybe he and Murkowski could run off together and become transgender drag queens?
Ew, gross, whyyy.
Thank Christ.

As glad as I am that he is not running for re-election, I did vote for him against Barack Obama. Despite his many faults, he would have been a better President than Obama. I remember seeing a guy back then wearing a sweatshirt with the slogan: Better a Mormon than a Moron.
Translation: “I don’t want to get my ass kicked in 2024.”
Well I know I am tore up from the floor up…..
“I’m conservative! Honest! I’m a severe conservative!” (Paraphrasing Romney’s past description of himself, qualifying his conservatism as if it were a disease).
Good bye and good riddance. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
I voted for Mitt Romney for President, because, with all of his faults, I knew he would be better than Barack Obama.. There is so much hatred here on LI against Romney, I seriously wonder how many posters here voted for Obama, or else refused to vote and thus allowed Obama to be elected President. If you are one of them, then you need to go seriously fuck yourself.. In the ass. Good and hard. You are responsible for what a hell hole America has become. Congratulate yourselves for allowing Obama to become President and all the hell that Obama unleashed on us. . But hey, at least Obama was not part of the Globalist, GOPe, one world globalist order, RINO Republicans, never Trump crowd. So congratulation yourselves. I salute you! You got what you wanted. Go to hell.
I am one of the posters on LI who absolutely detests Romney, as well as the McCain clan and Bush family.
I voted for Romney, McCain and both Bush’s as the lesser of two evils.
However, I would point out that Romney as well as Cheney and the McCain machine actively campaigned against GOP candidates in Arizona and FOR their Democrat opponents.
The same is true in Pennsylvania where GOPe pols formed a PAC and ran ads supporting Democrat candidates and against the GOP nominees.
Since the time of Goldwater the establishment GOP has only supported the advancement of their own power and has consistently tried to derail Conservative and Populist GOP nominees. The only reason that Reagan and Trump were able to win is that blue collar Democrat voters saw that these two men truly were first and foremost champions of defending America by removing regulatory and tax barriers to success for American owned and operated business and by advocating that the key purpose for the American government is to protect American citizens starting with the individual rights outlined in the constitution.
The GOPe is just about as corrupt as the Dems with their support your friends and punish your enemies justice system. They are just as opposed to equal justice under the law as Dems but their friends list is a marginally different.
And go fuck yourself JR.
It’s asshats like you that force us to decide whether to vote for cocksuckers like McCain and Romney when there were more than 150 million other people who would have made better Republican presidential candidates.
So yes, many of us had to hold our noses and eat the shit sandwich that people like you foisted upon us.
So yeah… GO FUCK YOURSELF deep in the ass… bitch.
I lived in Utah, and knew that however I voted in that presidential election, the electoral votes would go to the R (McCain or Romney). So I did not vote for either Obama or the lackluster R. I voted Libertarian, I believe. It was a protest vote that in my state would not and did not make a difference electorally.
And I worked to get someone else in the Senate 6 years ago. There was a Dr. Kennedy that I liked, but Hatch and his uniparty buddies had changed the primary process after Bennett lost in 08, so we didn’t really have a chance.
This will be a great loss for the democrats.
Found elsewhere on the web, where some people at least believe that personal character is of fundamental importance in our public leaders — not only in the days of Bill Clinton but today as well:
“I recall meeting with a prominent businessman, a leader of the Sephardic Jewish community in New York City, who, unbidden, described Mitt Romney as one of the finest men he had ever known.
I remember the words of another man — I won’t identify him further, as his name would be familiar to many … — who choked up while recounting what Mitt Romney had done, and the very great lengths to which he had gone, to help out during an agonizing family emergency. “I would do anything for that man,” he told me.
I recall yet another person telling of Mitt Romney showing up during a rare moment of campaign downtime to join a “Mormon Helping Hands” crew of volunteers pulling up a large tree stump following a natural disaster. No camera crews or news media were present, and the man telling about the event could scarcely believe what he was seeing: that it was really the Republican presidential candidate down there in that hole with the stump, wielding a chain saw. “I haven’t been getting enough physical exercise,” Governor Romney explained.”
I’m sure he’s a really nice guy, as every Mormon I’ve ever met has been, but he was still a Democrat running as a Republican, and acted that way when he was in office – blatantly.
After he got Trump to endorse him, and then knifes Republicans in the back by voting for impeachment.
I prefer good judgement over personal character. I have always thought that Jimmy Carter had good character. But he was a disastrous president.
Sadly, our current president has neither.
From this morning’s LI email:
“Mary Chastain: “Good-bye, Mitt Romney. I hope the door hits you on the way out.””
If I had been drinking coffee, this would have ruined my keyboard.
Good riddance! Mitt, don’t let the door hit you where the good Lord split ya…
Mitt never seemed to have a bad word to say about Dems. Where is Utah going to find another RINO of Mitt’s magnitude?
oh do not fret… there are a plethora with names like:
Matheson (although these guys were dems in the 80s; also, I know a branch of that family personally and very well and a better person you would have a hard time finding!)
Huntsman
Leavitt
