Trump: “I WILL THEREFORE NOT BE DOING THE DEBATES!” (all caps in original)

Trump: “I WILL THEREFORE NOT BE DOING THE DEBATES!” (all caps in original)

This is a sign of weakness, not strength.

Donald Trump will not be doing this Wednesday’s Republican debate in Milwaukee, but his use of the plural in his announcement is getting attention. Does this mean he will not do any future Republican debates?

New CBS POLL, just out, has me leading the field by “legendary” numbers. TRUMP 62%, 46 Points above DeSanctimonious (who is crashing like an ailing bird!), Ramaswamy 7%, Pence 5%, Scott 3%, Haley 2%, Sloppy Chris Christie 2%, “Aida” Hutchinson 1%. The public knows who I am & what a successful Presidency I had, with Energy Independence, Strong Borders & Military, Biggest EVER Tax & Regulation Cuts, No Inflation, Strongest Economy in History, & much more. I WILL THEREFORE NOT BE DOING THE DEBATES!

As with so many Trump announcements, you think you know what he said but in fact he leaves himself wiggle room. Should the race tighten at all, or should he run out of small donations from grandma and grandpa America to fund his legal fees, he might say the plural “debates” really referred to just the one debate.

Joe Biden next year if Trump is the nominee: Why should I debate him, he wouldn’t debate his rivals.

Anyway, the more I look at it the more I think Trump is a house of cards who is going to collapse, and he knows it. He doesn’t have the physical or financial staying power he had in prior election cycles. He needs a basement strategy, and to sit on his large lead created by Democrat prosecutors indicting him multiple times. That’s why all his minions are pushing for DeSantis and others to bow out now and unite around Trump so that he gets all the collective fundraising, and he is refusing to debate.

At some point something has to give, the only question is whether it’s prior to him getting the nomination or after.

A supermajority of Americans say they will not vote for Trump. People inside Trump’s bubble can’t imagine how deep the hatred of him is in the country, just like Hillary could not imagine how deep the hatred of her was in 2016 outside her bubble.

Almost a third of Trump supporters have turned into hostage takers according to a recent poll released by a pro-Trump pollster, threatening to crater any Republican nominee who is not Trump. I guess they assume that if he is the nominee, such tactics will not come back to haunt him and that the half of the party who does not support him will forget these threats and still vote for him.

One way or another this is going to end badly. Start prepping.

You’re on the sauce. Drinking and driving.

This is as simple as Cause and Effect, which Trump knows instinctively (like supply and demand) and as complicated as what souls dislike about them/ selves that they hate about Trump lol.

Trump’s greatest asset remains his uncanny ability to outsmart the people he just outsmarted!

That’s why they cheat to beat…

DerKrieger in reply to REDACTED. | August 21, 2023 at 10:51 pm

Trump can’t win a general election.

Trump is the reason he lost in 2020. He’s a self-centered, narcissistic, megalomaniac who can’t keep his big mouth shut.
Elections are won and lost by low single digit margins and Trump had successfully turned off the margin he needs to win a general election.
He childishly attacks friends and foes alike. Ron “DeSanctimonious”? Who finds that mature and indicative of a man fit for office?
If RD somehow won the nomination, I have no doubt that rather than rally Republicans to support him, Trump would sabotage him just as he sabotaged the GA senate race.
I’m sick and tired of Trump and his making everything about himself. Do you really want four more years of him constantly talking about himself?
Not only can Trump NOT win a general election, he would be a huge drag on down ballot races. The GOP would be wiped out with him at the top of the ticket. Saving this country is far too important to risk it on Trump.
His supporters might think they represent the majority of Americans, but they don’t. Trump’s support is deep, but narrow.
Not only is Trump trying to destroy DeSantis for 2024, but his surrogates, like lunatic Laura Loomer, said DeSantis should never be allowed to be president. Why say that? Trump can only hold one more term. The race for 2028 would start the day after inauguration. I voted for Trump in 2016 and 2020 because he was on the ticket, and would reluctantly do so again, but it will be for naught because he can’t win. You Trump cheerleaders can dispute this all you like but the polls support my assertion.

smalltownoklahoman | August 20, 2023 at 7:13 pm

I think the other candidates know something has to give too and that’s why they are not bowing out despite Trump’s enormous lead currently. It won’t surprise me at all that even if he does get the nomination much of the party will refuse to support him.

Polling indicates that more than 50% of Republicans support Trump. And many of them are just not going to support a candidate being funded by the globalists

      Frankly you disgust me.

And Republicans make up about 25% of the general electorate. See the problem? https://news.gallup.com/poll/388781/political-party-preferences-shifted-greatly-during-2021.aspx

Mauiobserver in reply to Fuzzy Slippers. | August 20, 2023 at 8:43 pm

Yep but independent voters and blue collar democrats are what elected him in 2016.

Pretty much the same Demographic as Reagan’s first victory.

I don’t see blue collar or independent voters becoming highly motivated to vote against Trump as a result of the endless political persecution.

In fact, I suspect that all but die hard leftists and democratic loyalists now see that the Russia collusion, Biden Ukraine allegations and the prosecutions are complete bs.

Trump doesn’t need advertising as he is and will be the top news story for the entire process.

They voted against him in 2020, and 2022.

What you are seeing is what you want to see.

Mauiobserver in reply to Danny. | August 20, 2023 at 10:30 pm

Actually I believe it is more true of you.

I don’t expect the GOPe to support Trump as no matter how good of a politician he is or isn’t they simply reject the populist agenda.

The Trump agenda is controlled borders and affirming American sovereignty, no pointless foreign wars, reduce regulations to support American jobs and businesses operating in this country, and supporting individual freedom vs tribal affiliation.

The GOPe overlaps on lower taxes and some GOPe voters also oppose affirmative action but most seem supportive.

The GOPe mostly supports open borders and amnesty. They are mostly pro abortion or at least oppose state restrictions. They are for almost any war that institutional FC wants . They are all for the global economy vs what benefits American workers/tax payers. They aren’t really advocates or defenders of individual rights. They aren’t all that bothered if Trump and his supporters are prosecuted and incarcerated on bogus charges because they are not the right people. All the cool crowd knows that only the in crowd has the rights enshrined in the constitution.”

In other words they are the party and people who have always supported candidates like Nelson Rockefeller, John McCain and Mitt Romney.

That said I must respond to you, I am a carpenter in East Tennessee, and you don’t understand the Trump fatigue for blue collar folks. The Trump team doesn’t know it yet because they ate all online now, but that pic of boxes of evidence next to his spare toilet was killer for the guys I know. Every one asked how you could be so stupid, you knew the govt was coming after you and still stored files next to the toilet.

It’s not 2016 anymore. It’s not even 2020 anymore. And former Trump voters are becoming disaffected.. They’re questioning their support for Trump. These are going to start being reflected in Polls.

It’s been estimated 9 million people voted for Obama at least once and also voted for Trump in 2016. Those folks will decide the next President. I THINK you may be right about the blue collar and independent swing voters, but a reliable poll of a large number of those 9 million voters would be pure gold.

For decades pundits on the right tell us that Americans are generally “conservative in nature,” while we get our heads stoved-in at national level poles.

And then this comes to mind …

The 5 Stages of Palliative Care:
    Stage One: Stable ·
    Stage Two: Unstable ·
    Stage Three: Deteriorating ·
    Stage Four: Terminal ·
    Stage Five: Bereavement

Well then being honest you must despise and detest Trump the man who was funded by what your definition of globalist is in both 2016 and 2020.

I am not a simp for rich guy, I would like to focus a lot more on the deficit which does mean we will eventually have to raise taxes, and I am against the constant focus on taxes.

But if you are a Bolshevik screw you. Your adopting the idea that anybody no matter how good a businessman and how much he shares your values (and yes Ron DeSantis’ donors DO share your values and DO a hell of a lot more for the movement than you ever even considered doing) is “globalist” screw you.

We are not the Bolshevik party hating rich people for being rich is sinful and you disgust me by engaging in it.

Sally MJ in reply to kak185ttx. | August 21, 2023 at 2:54 am

The biggest threat to Trump now is from.Trump supporters, who voted for him in two elections, who see him increasingly unhinged. They see an entitled candidate, who thinks he deserves to win, but who thinks he doesn’t have to show up. They will bail.

People like me. Disaffected former Trump voters. He has to not only attract new voters, but also win back those of us who decided to leave his plantation.

Azathoth in reply to Sally MJ. | August 21, 2023 at 1:20 pm

It does the right no good to have the right publicly attacking each other at this time.

      We gain nothing by it.

Trump is running away with the nomination. Because he is the incumbent.

Why should we hurt ourselves for the amusement of the left?

Hopefully, the die hard Trump contingent, after screwing the rest of the country over with another 4 years of Dementia Joe, will just stop voting in the future.

Lots of folks ignore the failure of d/prog policy. They have done so for decades. Some of them finally wised up in ’16 but are stuck in a cult of personality with Trump. They reveal their messianic zeal with their demand that all other candidates drop out, that we anoint Trump and by ad hominem attacks on anyone who refuses their infantile posturing; traitor and GoPe being particular favorites. To put the cherry on top of it the MAGADONIANS then threaten to help elect Biden and down ballot d/prog by telling us they will refuse to show up to the election if Trump isn’t the GoP nominee.

Die hard Trump supporters are victims? Nice job denying their moral agency. I believe they are capable of seeing the world as it is and correcting themselves.

There was a zero percent chance anybody but Trump would win the primary outside of his death or some weird play where he is totally out of the running. It is just as true now.

Sanddog in reply to Dathurtz. | August 20, 2023 at 7:21 pm

Democrat activists will pile on the mail in votes no matter who the republican nominee is. All the more in fact, if that nominee is perceived as a threat to whatever scunge ends up as the democrat candidate. But the real abysmal ignorance of your comment is that, fundamentally, you think democrat preferences should influence the choice of the republican nominee, rather than republican voters. Due to the irrationality of never Trumpism I suppose.

If you believed that you wouldn’t want him as nominee because it will happen again in 2024, better to let the people who want to try to win a majority of voters get egg on their face right?

Unless you know he lost of course, and know that he lost.

If he lost his wanting another chance is reasonable.

If he didn’t that means it will still be rigged in 2024 and there is nothing any of us can do about it.

Your vote doesn’t count is the worst motivation to vote ever.

        diver64 in reply to gonzotx. | August 21, 2023 at 4:27 am

Continue saying that all you want, I also think the election was stolen, but he is not President is he? Time to stop fighting the last election and move on to 2024. Can Trump win the general? I don’t think so. The people who will vote for him are far lower than those that will not and that is the problem. There is not one poll suggesting otherwise. In 2016 people punched the Cathedral in the face and the Dems ran one of the least liked people in American history. This time, if Biden stays in the race and I’m not convinced he will, peoples opinion of Trump has become solidified and like it or not, do not hate Biden as much as they loathe Hillary.

Doubtful but they won’t vote for Trump. His 30-40% of hardcore supporters will but that leaves between 60 and 70% that will vote Dem, third party or not at all. Relying on people not voting to win the election is not a good strategy I think

Sally MJ in reply to Sanddog. | August 21, 2023 at 2:58 am

He is and we all know it

The Gentle Grizzly in reply to gonzotx. | August 20, 2023 at 10:07 pm

      Exactly my point.

The pool aid drinking, true believing Trump supports have lost their tether to reality when it comes to Trump. Whatever he does/doesn’t do is either always good or always someone else’s fault. The Only Trump contingent refuses to see that those not in their camp must be persuaded to vote for Trump in the GoP primary.

They don’t seem to understand that many will refuse to be bullied or extorted into pulling the lever for him in the primary. Nor that these sort of tactics cause a number of folks to become stubborn and potentially a ‘sticky’ stubbornness that may carry over into the general election.

Of course when the Only Trump crowd threatens to stay home in Nov if Trump isn’t the nominee it is, according to them, virtuous but if others do so b/c they are equally upset about the choice of the nominee then that is ‘treason’.

The amusing part is that many of the most die hard Only Trump folks are NOT registered GoP members. In closed primary States they won’t be allowed to vote in the GoP primary until they register as members of the GoP. Hopefully their threats are much like their idol’s musings; a stream of consciousness display not to be taken seriously.

However much disagreement there is about the primary the ONE uniting factor is opposition to Biden and the d/prog; we must defeat them in ’24. The stakes are too high for selfish BS, hurt feelings and ego to hand our common political foes a second consecutive term in the WH.

healthguyfsu in reply to CommoChief. | August 21, 2023 at 1:44 pm

Of course they don’t….they won’t even see it after he loses badly. They have their built-in rigged excuses already out.

Until there is a head to head, it’s food for junkies. And if there’s impeachment or some other diaster of Biden’s/Democratic making, there’s no saying what will happen.

As for the debate, to say he’s not showing is weakness seems a stretch, especially as there are obvious, common sense reasons to support the decision.

Yeah, the persecution makes it more difficult, but when has it ever been easy?

I read that he may be putting himself in legal jeopardy because of all those indictments.

GravityOpera in reply to amwick. | August 21, 2023 at 4:49 pm

Good idea. Baiting Trump into admitting something that would hurt him in court is a great tactic. That does mean I again have to admit that Trump is correct to not participate in any debates.

CommoChief in reply to amwick. | August 21, 2023 at 5:01 pm

Agreed. A more narrow focus on his legal issues would be far more prudent than attempting to fight off multiple indictments while trying to win a primary and potentially the general election without attending much of the traditional campaign events like debates.

It’s a sign of media management.

Keep in mind Trump has a Don RIckles sense of humor, and he’s a pro at it.

Of course he will not be doing the debates. He is a coward. Remember that tomorrow was the day he was going to finally unleash the kraken that would prove absolutely for once and all that the election was stolen. He had this information for over 2 and 1/2 years, but he was only going to release it tomorrow. Total bullshit. I voted for Trump twice, but he is now acting like a tele-evangelist speaking in tongues asking for all of your money, or like a carnival barker sideshow huckster. Enough is enough.

Yours is a perfect example of the dilemma Republicans face. Nobody that didn’t vote for him is ’16/’20 is going to vote for him in ’24. How Trump wins is beyond me. If he does, it will be by the skin of his teeth with Democratic majorities in Congress. He’ll be unable to govern effectively, as he’s temperamentally unsuited for governance in a republic. Of course, it’s all about “retribution” for his fans, so maybe he’ll just throw everybody he doesn’t like in jail.

The answer is absolutely nothing.

Worse case is he gets slammed in the debate and looses his present advantage, Best case he helps someone else gain name recognition.

But for him, he just opens the door for the others in the debate to hammer him about all the legal BS going around.

If You or I was in his shoes we would skip them for now as well.

That is why the TDS crowd is mad, he has cut them off at the pass.

And when Biden refuses to debate him? What can he say?

GravityOpera in reply to starride. | August 21, 2023 at 5:00 pm

What does Trump have to gain? Trump is a great human being with exceptional debate skills and an incredible record of pro-gun, fiscally responsible, and swamp-draining policies to back them up. He would win the primary at the first debate and be able to save money for the general election.

There is childishness going around and it has been for eight years. That’s how we ended up in this mess.

“Neverism” is not a two-way street. NoRon-ism is childish because he has an excellent conservative record. NT isn’t because T has a record of trashing conservative Republicans and costing votes for conservatives all the way down the ballot.

Lol professor, you are wrong

You seem so incredibly confident that you are right and Professor J is wrong. However, he always sets out the basis for his conclusion. What is the basis for yours; why is he wrong?

President Trumps poll numbers rise with news of his not attending the civil lynchings .

73% said it was because of the indictments.

Great job doing word for word what the Democrats want you to do.

RNJD in reply to gonzotx. | August 20, 2023 at 10:52 pm

You linked to the poll numbers among primary voters. Professor J cited the poll among general election voters (pro tip: the people who actually elect the president) that showed a super majority of them (64%) absolutely or most probably would not vote for Trump. That is a big problem that his multiple indictments don’t help.

Gaslighting much, Professor?

Show some respect to the man who unlike you put his professional career and reputation on the line to fight one of the biggest evils of modern American culture.

I do have respect for him. Clearly, I have, I’ve been following this site since before Obama was elected. Probably within a few weeks of him starting it. What I have little use for is the abject dislike of Trump.
As a small business owner, I put a LOT on the line every single day. Trust me. I take offense at your statement.

    txvet2 in reply to herm2416. | August 21, 2023 at 1:26 am

Of course, The Trump cult interpretation of dispassionate analysis is Trump hatred. Take your imaginary small business and grow it. We’re on your side.

      herm2416 in reply to txvet2. | August 21, 2023 at 7:32 am

With a big “up yours”— 37 years of business is hardy imaginary. You have absolutely NO idea what you are talking about. Do YOU worry about inventory, keeping people employed, daily industry swings, state and federal policies affecting your company and that of others, keeping within bank lending formulas, late payers?
I’d bet money to marbles you don’t.

        healthguyfsu in reply to herm2416. | August 21, 2023 at 1:42 pm

Trump is not the only person that would protect those things. A Dem sure won’t, which is who will be in charge if people insist on pushing Trump to the general.

    amwick in reply to herm2416. | August 21, 2023 at 7:39 am

Yes,,, that bothers me too. I really disliked his kraken snarks from twitter. But, like all of us, he has his opinion. He does great work with equalprotect.org, gotta admire that.
The bottom line, I know what to expect here.

      herm2416 in reply to amwick. | August 21, 2023 at 7:53 am

Absolutely! I have tremendous respect for his knowledge and experience. This is a site I visit on a daily basis for the very reasons I state.

OK, we knew this already. So he used all caps. Nothing new here. How about saving space for more important stories, like the fact that a new covid “variant” is being touted, just in time for the holidays.

No tin foil hat here. Friend at a major medical company tells me that sales of the vaccine have dropped off, with major losses. They have to unload all this vaccine. So, enter a new variant. Let’s see if the need for “lockdowns” surfaces again.

“This is a sign of weakness, not strength.”
I disagree. This is just simple game theory. There is no disagreement that Trump is the frontrunner. There is never any upside to debates for the frontrunner, only a downside. It doesn’t matter who the frontrunner is.

GravityOpera in reply to henrybowman. | August 21, 2023 at 3:25 am

It’s a lose-lose choice and by refusing Trump admits he has an indefensible record and is better off not trying to excuse it…. I’m sorry for the down vote. You’re right, he’s better off doing this than actually trying to defend himself in a debate.

Sally MJ in reply to henrybowman. | August 21, 2023 at 3:28 am

Yes, Henry, there is definitely a downside for Trump debating.

Debating requires a particular set of skills. Trump does not have strong debate skills. Sometimes he can get away with it — however, some of his fellow candidates have exceptional debate skills.

I think one of the main reasons he’s not participating in the GOP debates is because he hasn’t practiced, and doesn’t want any fellow candidates to show him up.. I think he’s afraid he will look bad, until he practices. He’s probably right But he thinks no one will change their mind about him if he doesn’t debate. Au contraire.

herm2416 in reply to Sally MJ. | August 21, 2023 at 7:36 am

Do you know for a fact he hasn’t “practiced”? All the vultures throwing gotcha questions incessantly for the past seven years isn’t practice?
Name names, beyond Vivek, who can debate seriously and have people sit up and take notice.

Can Trump beat Biden – probably yes.
Will Biden be the nominee – probably not. He’s too high maintenance, has too much baggage, and is too likely to lose.
Which dem(s) can beat Trump?
Is the fix in? The R convention is 7/15-18/24 – in Milwaukee. Not friendly territory – guaranteed to be lots of protests.
The D convention is 8/19-24/24 – in Chicago. Very friendly territory (esp for Michelle). The dems will have one month to work out their differences and select a candidate they think can win.
10 weeks after the dem convention, we vote. Not much time to vet their candidate, but plenty of time to boost him/her.
Lots of Trump’s drawing power with independents, blacks and Hispanics could be negated with the right dem candidate.
Since this is all blue sky, would a Trump/Kennedy ticket be electable and be able to drain the swamp and break their hold?

thalesofmiletus | August 21, 2023 at 9:16 am

[[[Joe Biden next year if Trump is the nominee: Why should I debate him, he wouldn’t debate his rivals.]]]

Whether or not Biden debates the GOP nominee will not be determined in any way by Trump’s action here. Also, the media will excuse Biden no matter what, so it’s in Trump’s interest to do what’s best for Trump.

It’s cute that you think Biden will debate this time around when he won’t even do any press conferences and avoids questions from anybody.

CommoChief in reply to wendybar. | August 21, 2023 at 11:14 am

Given the many examples so far in Biden 1st term of physical decline and failing mental acuity the basement strategy may not help.

Frankly there’s been too much media notice and reporting on of these failures for a ‘hide Biden and no one will notice he’s 80+’ to work again. Not just legacy media either there’s plenty of coverage available on new media as well.

healthguyfsu in reply to wendybar. | August 21, 2023 at 12:48 pm

And why does Trump deserve any better respect if he won’t even debate within his own alleged party?

Amazing to see the ‘professor’ link to an article that shows a poll that says that over half of all Americans prefer Trump –not just Republicans.

What?

Well yes, All you need to do is take the polls margin of error in the other direction..

That ‘all Americans line is important too. The poll was of adults. Not voters, likely or registered, just adults.

Why, honestly, I’d have to say this polls results -however you hit the margin of error– are worth about as much as political analysis from the professor.

For the love of god, can we stop this? This is the kind of bullshit the Democrats and the left do. Bogus polls designed to undermine confidence. Endless pitting us against each other.

And we take the bait.

I call you leftists and nevertrumpers and you insist I’m in some brainwashed cult of personality..

The left needs us divided. So do the globalists. So do the Dems.

Here are the facts. It is likely that Trump will be the nominee if they don’t manage to force him out somehow before the convention.

It is likely that the fix is already in for 2024 and most of the field doesn’t actually have a chance. Even in the crappy polls like the one used for this article only Trump is getting close.

And they’re acting very afraid of Trump.

Why? If the fix is in. If they want him to run because Biden can beat him, if he has no chance, why?

Maybe because they’re looking at the real polling and know that the only person out there who has even a chance o beat the cheat is Trump.

Simply put. He doesn’t deserve the nomination then.

Trump: “I will do what I did from 2017 to 2020.”

What is there to debate… gas prices too low?… real wages too high?… inflation too low?… no military conflicts?…

….probably because you can’t refute it.

But you might want to wipe those Democrat talking points off your face. They’re starting to stink.

healthguyfsu in reply to Azathoth. | August 21, 2023 at 3:45 pm

Trump spent almost 8 trillion in 4 years. Obama spent about 5 trillion in 8 years.

Trump spends like a Democrat or worse. That’s not a talking point, it’s a fiscal reality.

So hollow is the depth, that from no part,
Save on the summit of the rocky span,
          Could I distinguish aught. Thus far we came;
And thence I saw, within the foss below,
          A crowd immers’d in ordure, that appear’d
Draff of the human body. There beneath
Searching with eye inquisitive, I mark’d
One with his head so grim’d, ‘t were hard to deem,
If he were clerk or layman. Loud he cried:
“Why greedily thus bendest more on me,
Than on these other filthy ones, thy ken?”

CommoChief in reply to George S. | August 21, 2023 at 5:12 pm

How about the difference between making a campaign promise to build a ‘big beautiful wall’ and keeping it? The debates are an opportunity to lay out what lessons he learned in his 1st term and how those lessons translate into specific steps he will take to build the damn wall if given a second term.

From the article: “A supermajority of Americans say they will not vote for Trump.”
(AP-NORC Poll link) https://apnorc.org/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/August-2023-Trump-Indictment-Topline-1.pdf

From the link: “Founded in 1846, AP today remains the most trusted source of fast, accurate, unbiased news in all formats…”

Hah!

I never trust polls as they can be rigged. It is clear with Trump that he is running as a Republican, but the Republican Party does not care for him just as the Democrat Party does not. This is because he wants much of the Federal government eliminated and this cuts much of their power.

He wants the southern border closed, business moved back into the USA, less taxes, no war, and people in the USA working.
