Obama Comes Out Against Parent Attempts To Keep Highly Sexualized “LGBTQ+” Books Out Schools, Calls It “Banning”
Libs of TikTok, retweeting content from some challenged LGBTQ+ books, asked, ‘Why does Obama want your kids to read porn like this in school?’
Former President Barack Obama attracted controversy after he penned a letter criticizing books “being challenged by people who disagree with certain ideas or perspectives,” citing books “often written by or featur[ing] people of color, indigenous people, and members of the LGBTQ+ community.”

Several conservative Twitter accounts immediately took the former president to task with examples of LGBTQ+ books frequently challenged for their “pornographic content.”
These accounts highlighted books like Doing It!: Let’s Talk About Sex, Flamer, This Book Is Gay, and Gender Queer: A Memoir, three of which appear on the American Library Association’s list of 2022’s most challenged books because they are “claimed to be sexually explicit.”
According to the PEN America’s Index of School Book Bans, these books have been banned a combined 65 times. PEN America claims Gender Queer is “[t]he most frequently banned book” and “has been called ‘obscene and pornographic’ by the groups who lobby for its removal.”
Conservative commentator Dinesh D’Souza offered some insight into why these LGBTQ+ books have so frequently faced challenges:

Conservative account Libs of TikTok, retweeting the letter, asked why the former president would “want your kids to read porn like this in school?”
When they accuse us of “banning books” they’re referring to graphic books containing pornographic content offered to kids in schools across the country.

Conservative commentator Matt Walsh offered a tongue-in-cheek take on the former president’s letter, proclaiming that “Barack Obama has finally come out as gay”:

we are having this issue in my very conservative, Christian (22 churches for a town of 3500) NorId community.

Those that object to our petition to MOVE explicit books to the adult section are saying we want to BAN them. Nope. That has not ONCE crossed our lips or pens or fingers. We are just asking that they be removed from the CHILDRENS section of the library. I do not care what age-appropriate the publisher says a book is. If it is explicit =, it is not a children or youth book.
That is the proper term to use when specific books are forbidden in schools and libraries. Don’t deny it, own it. Sexually explicit books should not be made available to public school students on the taxpayers’ dime.
The hypocrisy of the left these days is actually fun to watch. They go max hysteria about ‘banning books” right up until the part where they are forced to defend the pornographic content of books like ‘Gender Queer’.
Out of order in the School Board meeting but just fine for the school library? Explain that to me.
Then explain how those books got approved for the library in the first place and by whom.
Pagans acting like pagans is a surprise? The surprise is how long they were in the closet.
If all else fails, blame the Pagans.
Meantime, I see all manner of Christian denominations and Jewish synagogues going against the teachings of their own texts, often openly embracing the more radical and flamboyant aspects of the “gay community”, or this trans-sexual nonsense.
Point the blame where much of it belongs, please. I am willing to be you never knowingly met a Pagan in your life.
Plenty of blame to spread around. A relative of mine claims paganism. She has a trans kid and a girl who took a boy in a dress to the prom. I have a coworker that also claims it but I think he is mostly just an atheist who is making his wife happy. I would also say the full embrace radical and flamboyant LGBT++ is a falling into sin by those churches. All the sinners are welcome. But the sins should not be encouraged and the unrepentant sinners should not be leading.

These books are not being banned. They can still be published, still go to bookstores and county libraries, etc. Parents don’t want sexually explicit books in school, any more than they want teachers to talk about their own sex lives to these kids.
Every library has always curated the books it maintains as part of its collection. Obviously these should not be in elementary, middle school/Jr High libraries. They simply are not age appropriate for kids that young. A reasonable discussion could be had about their inclusion at a high school library. Unfortunately the leftists don’t want a reasonable conversation about anything. As a result we are forced into easy to apply rules without any grey area to be exploited; remove them from all school libraries.

Those books are also being purchased with taxpayer funds. Which makes them absolutely open to question by those taxpayers.
I wonder if Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn are still on the shelves in those libraries. The left wing started this “book-banning” by removing these kinds of books.
That should indeed be part of the response. Ask about a list of that sort of book and if they have been removed from the shelves or ‘banned’.
