Will NY Gov. Hochul Sign Reparations Legislation?
She hasn’t signed the law to create a commission, yet. Meanwhile, New York City is considering its own reparations program.
Last week, the New York legislature passed a bill to form a commission to explore possible reparations payments.
Gov. Kathy Hochul received the bill but hasn’t done anything about it. Fox News suggested the budget is standing in the way, which is the main argument from critics:
Hochul and New York state lawmakers recently approved the state’s mammoth budget of $229 billion. According to a new budget projection, New York’s expenses will outpace revenues by $9.1 billion next year and $13.9 billion the following year.

Both New York and California have experienced massive exoduses in recent years, with large numbers of residents moving to other states. More than 10,000 New Yorkers, for example, moved to Florida in the first quarter of this year, continuing a trend from the COVID pandemic.
The Empire State also lost a staggering $24.5 billion in state-adjusted gross income in 2021 as residents fled to low-tax states, according to IRS data. The data also detailed how California saw the most significant amount of outward migration in 2021, with at least 32,000 taxpayers taking an estimated $29 billion to other states.
The commission “would examine the extent to which the federal and state government supported the institution of slavery.”
But the commission would also examine the “economic, political and educational disparities experienced by Black people in the state today.”
New York City is considering its own reparations program, created by Councilwoman Farah Louis:
Louis’ reparations bill – which only covers the city — would create a nine-member task force that would be required to deliver a report one year after being appointed. Like the state bill, any recommendations would be non-binding and strictly advisory.
It is part of a larger legislative package introduced Thursday by some council members of color they said is aimed at “rectifying” historical “injustices.”
One measure by Crystal Hudson (D-Brooklyn) would require the city’s Commission of Racial Equity to create a “Truth, Healing, and Reconciliation” process that establishes “historical facts” about the city’s past use of slavery and then recommends changes for local government and institutions to “prevent recurrence” – even though New York abolished slavery more than two centuries ago, and lost more than 50,000 men while fighting to free slaves during the Civil War.
Councilwoman Sandy Nurse’s bill would force the Public Design Commission and the city to remove statues, monuments, and art of anyone or associated with anyone that “pays tribute to ex-slave owners or people who profited from slavery as well as anyone who committed ‘systemic’ crimes against indigenous peoples or ‘against humanity.'”

American blacks are the richest blacks in the world, so they’ll be the ones owing reparations to whites.
Cities seem determined to force segregation, making those cities a large safe space where their feelings will not be hurt, just their lifespan.
“Will NY Gov. Hochul Sign Reparations Legislation?”
Yes.
We both hope you’re wrong. She’s a clever person who gamed it just right to win reelection against a strong challenge by Lee Zeldin. I think the political advantage here is with not signing, and appearing as a centrist governor, no matter what transpired before to get her where she is. Also signing it will accelerate the exodus. NY state is still OK because NYC real estate continues to go up higher in the stratosphere. This could all crack though if she allows a continuing racial agenda to torture the state.
Yeah. Kathy “Gas Stove” Hochul cares about looking centrist.
Key, Kathy — if California jumped off a bridge, would you do it too?
(You know she would.)
She’s an idiot, so…she’ll probably go for it.
She’s dangerous, whether or not she is an idiot.
NYC vacancy rate for commercial real estate is at a high. Overall it’s about 18%. The financial district in lower Manhattan is 26% vacant while Times Square, Midtown is 20% vacant. Much of that is likely to be permanent as Corporations cut the number of employees and some shifting operations out of the State.
She’s a dope with no backbone. She was stupid enough to allow raises for the legislature to go through before her first choice for Chief Judge, Hector LaSalle, was voted on. She had zero leverage and got rolled by the State Senate. I have no reason to think she has gotten any smarter.
‘God wants you to be vaccinated’ and make reparations!
What do descendants of black slave owners get?
The bill.
So Kamala “Heels Up” Harris gets to pay?
Now..now…she put her mouth where the money was….. she paid for her position.
So…. people can prove with a paper trail ancestral slaves but not legal residency to vote? That should go over well.
Paper trail? Ha ha. That would discriminate against those who are ineligible. They are going to utilize the honor system.
They seem to have UD for free groceries, phones, medical care, and housing. But, not to vote.
I for one would be pleased to see the taxpayers fleeing New York replaced with those coming to New York just for reparations.

I won’t. They will just get more federal bailout money so we will always pay in the end.
They will have to wait in line. Ukraine gets paid first. Then migrants. Actually migrants are already in line and you would have to travel over 12oo miles to get to the end of it. And if you wait and come back in 10 years it won’t be any shorter.
The reparations are to blind them to being replaced by migrants.
Already happening in Chicongo. Migrants are being housed in schools in black neighborhoods and the locals are pissed.
The locals will have their hands full of the MS-13 immigrants
I admit to multiple motives. Yeah, I’ve pretty much come around to believing that we have no real input on what the government does anymore. Yes, we will pay for any reparations ordered, because we have no choice regardless of which party is theoretically in power. Note last night when there was an attempt to censure Representative Adam Schiff [D] and 20 Republicans voted against it because it would have made him financially liable for what he had done. And 2 other Republicans abstained. TINVOWOOT. Holding a member of Congress to the law and Constitution just is not in the cards.
However, if Leftist controlled states have to bear the burden of masses of blacks swarming into them for reparations, then that at least puts the burden on the Left. Toss in the busing of the illegal foreign invaders from Mexico and points south, and the ethnic conflict that will ensue [and such conflict will happen no matter where they end up] will be in Leftist territory whose politicians support the very acts that cause the problems. Aside from poetic justice, it may weaken those who have been and do attack the Constitutional Republic; for at least a while.

COOL. I self-identify as a 174 y.o. black woman who actually was a slave in the deep south, and currently lives in NYC.
I want my $6.2 billion reparations check NOW. Don’t deny my lived truth, bigot!
Reparations riots, coming soon (Summer 2024) to a neighborhood near you. All of my neighbors’ “Black Lives Matter” yard signs are getting a little ratty after a couple of years, so we’ll definitely need both a new catchy phrase and a new set of Marxist charity grifters.
I knew I bought multiple 30 round mags for my ARs for a reason.
And of course they leave out that one tiny little detail of exactly how they intend to pay for “reparations”……they won’t have any “billionaires” left to tax….
I was thinking the same…stick it to those that voted for reparations by raising tax in the states that voted for it.
Self segregation…and reparation denial will result in a fun show as blue cities get burned to the ground.
There were race riots in NYC during the Civil War. Nasty. Now in hte 21st century race riots again but in reverse.
If they flee NYC maybe they can land in NJ.
Why do these types always look so nasty. Evil within…determining who people are is gleaned by what they do not what they say, somehow this one managed both.
It’s all those trips to the Dalmatian Puppy Farm.
The demands of the ideology and the rhetoric about reparations seem to have outpaced the fiscal realities.
I am outraged by the reparations whiners. Everybody in this country that wasn’t born to royalty can reach back in time and touch a family tragedy that drove an ancestor into poverty or worse.
My paternal grandfather watched his entire family beheaded by Cossacks in Latvia. My maternal grandfather was ruined when his dairy farm and house burned to the ground in Vermont. My father supported his mother, father, and brother during the depression. He was the only one with a job. My point is not to whine but to point out that anyone can pull themselves up by their bootstraps, facing insurmountable odds, and make a life.
It’s tragic that there was slavery. It’s tragic that indigenous people lost their land to invaders. It’s tragic that racism existed. But, you know what, that’ the way it was centuries ago.
Losers in the crap game of life have two choices; persevere and make a life, or wallow in the tragedy. Around the world, millions of ‘losers’ in the lottery have overcome the loss; some spectacularly.
Unfortunately, this country formed a wallow industry. It’s an amalgam of race hustlers, rent seekers, and teary eyed liberal panderers.
Get over it! We who have survived owe you nothing more than an a level playing field, upon which you can play to win or wallow in the mud. Make a choice!
“My point is not to whine but to point out that anyone can pull themselves up by their bootstraps, facing insurmountable odds, and make a life.”
We used to call this The American Way, and when it worked, The American Dream.
Today they just call it White, and (compared to sitting on your ass and collecting inadequate government checks) evil.
Reparations granted to the Posterity of Civil War soldiers, civilian supporters, and others who were injured by the national enterprise to end slavery and diversity.
This is American Marxism at work paid for by our tax dollars Let them pound rocks
I am not paying a nickel for crime caused by dysfunctional families that breed crime and gangs and champion mysoginistic videos and sports as the only ways of making a living
How about this?
All those who want reparations paid out should contribute to a fund established for that purpose. Whatever is collected will be the total amount paid out as “reparations”.
Put your money where your Big Mouths are.
