DeSantis Statement On Reported Trump Indictment Elicits Praise and Fury

“The weaponization of federal law enforcement represents a mortal threat to a free society. We have for years witnessed an uneven application of the law depending upon political affiliation”

Following the most recent indictment of Trump, his biggest rival in the 2024 Republican primary, Governor Ron DeSantis, has come to his defense.

We live in fascinating and outrageous times.

The Hill reports:

Trump indictment: DeSantis blasts ‘weaponization of federal law enforcement’

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) blasted the “weaponization of federal law enforcement” in response to the news that former President Trump had been indicted, but avoiding an outright defense of his chief 2024 GOP rival.

“The weaponization of federal law enforcement represents a mortal threat to a free society. We have for years witnessed an uneven application of the law depending upon political affiliation,” DeSantis tweeted.

“Why so zealous in pursuing Trump yet so passive about Hillary [Clinton] or Hunter [Biden]? The DeSantis administration will bring accountability to the DOJ, excise political bias and end weaponization once and for all,” he added.

DeSantis’s comments came in response to an announcement from Trump, who said his attorneys had been alerted that he had been indicted in relation to a probe looking into his handling of classified documents that were found at Mar-a-Lago.

See the DeSantis tweet below:

The full text:

The weaponization of federal law enforcement represents a mortal threat to a free society.

We have for years witnessed an uneven application of the law depending upon political affiliation.

Why so zealous in pursuing Trump yet so passive about Hillary or Hunter?

The DeSantis administration will bring accountability to the DOJ, excise political bias and end weaponization once and for all.

Politico has more:

DeSantis was previously sharply critical of the FBI search of Mar-A-Lago. At the time DeSantis called it a “weaponization of federal agencies.” Right after he jumped into the race for president, DeSantis said he would be “aggressive” in issuing pardons when he was asked whether he would pardon Trump or those who rioted at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.

Many Florida Republicans reacted similarly to DeSantis, with some suggesting without proof that the timing of the indictment was designed to take away attention from allegations that President Joe Biden was involved in a bribery scheme while he was vice president. Biden called the allegations — which are mentioned in an unverified document that was shown to lawmakers on Thursday — “malarkey.”

“We have completely lost trust in the DOJ,” Sen. Rick Scott (R-Fla.) said on social media. “The DOJ needs to come out tonight & explain how this is somehow different than what Hillary (Clinton) did. What Biden did. And this all happens on the same day Biden’s $5M bribe comes out. This is America & this sure looks like a Banana Republic.”

DeSantis’ tweet has provoked reactions on both sides. Some positive:

Some negative:

Governor DeSantis keeps the focus on a corrupt doj where it belongs. Blatant attempt to influence and disrupt the 2024 election and Republicans in particular. FJB

I get many prefer Trump to DeSantis–but this statement by DeSantis is spot on. I get that is not going to get Trump supporters to switch to DeSantis, but the GOP needs to unite or it is done on this issue. Republicans either stand together or they will hang appart. This won’t stop with Trump. Not by a long shot. If the Dems get away with this they will march on against us all.

George Patton’s rumored quote: “No dumb bastard ever won a war by going out and dying for his country. He won it by making some other dumb bastard die for his country.”

Seems applicable here. I know quite a few liberal dumb bastards

As a Floridian, I am very grateful Ron was our guber during CV. He saved this state (with the help of the R state legislature). I would not support his run for POTUS at this time since he has made a commitment to us until 2026. He also would not have the same legislative support at the Fed level to do any good. I also question his judgement to put his family into the cauldron of the demons of DC since he still has tender aged children to raise. With the way things are going though, I don’t think it matters much. Evil is NOT being dealt with so it will prevail.

The left was going to go after his wife regardless because they are hatred manifest. The fact you can’t work this out speaks volumes about who you really are (not a real conservative).

The fact the country needs a REAL conservative as President is lost on morons like you because at the end of they day all you want is another corrupt Democrat regardless of how utterly devastating that will be for America.

Vivek Ramaswamy
@VivekGRamaswamy
We can’t have two tiers of justice: one for Trump, another for Biden. One for Assange, another for Manning. One for BLM/Antifa, another for peaceful protesters on Jan 6.

I never thought we’d see the day when the U.S. President deputizes the DOJ to arrest his lead rival in the middle of an election. Obama shamefully tried to deputize the FBI to infiltrate Trump’s 2016 campaign, but they’re leaving nothing to chance this time around: the federal police state is outright arresting Trump.

This is an affront to every citizen: we cannot devolve into a banana republic where the party in power uses police force to arrest its political opponents. It’s hypocritical for the DOJ to selectively prosecute Trump but not Biden.

There are also serious legal questions about the President’s power to declassify documents and the potential illegality of the over-classification of federal documents in the first place. That’s for the courts to decide, but we the people decide who governs this nation.

It would be much easier for me to win this election if Trump weren’t in the race, but I stand for principles over politics. I commit to pardon Trump promptly on January 20, 2025 and to restore the rule of law in our country.

Agreed. He probably won’t be the nominee due to the prominence of Trump and DeSantis. He is definitely a worthy candidate who in the event of total chaos the knocks Trump and DeSantis out of the race could do the job. He has some very intriguing policy ideas that I hope the two main contenders will at least consider incorporating should they win the general.

inspectorudy in reply to CommoChief. | June 9, 2023 at 11:09 am

He is why we must have debates. Hearing all of the candidates and their individual ideas helps us see what they stand for and what they will do. I am a DeSantis man but this indictment makes me want to vote for Trump because of the unfairness of it. On the other hand, he would not be a good POTUS because of the acrimony he would bring with him to the WH. Every federal department would be fighting him every step of the way and McCarthy is too weak to support him in the face of public criticism.

inspectorudy in reply to fogflyer. | June 9, 2023 at 11:15 am

You do realize that transgender people have a mental problem, don’t you? Most of them are on many forms of very powerful drugs and in my opinion, they do not represent the type of people that you want in the military. Not only for combat but any role due to their drug use and emotional stability. I have noticed lately that there are a lot of very violent crimes being committed by trans and when you consider their percentage of the population, it represents a very large percentage.

CommoChief in reply to fogflyer. | June 9, 2023 at 12:50 pm

Well hang on b/c it isn’t as simple as that. There are a large number of Service and Support jobs in every combat arms battalion. If they can be assigned to BN level or even a BDE or DIV HQ BN they will find themselves going outside the wire on combat missions.

If you then say ‘well, don’t assign them to those formations’ that causes another problem. Each of those Service and Support jobs (Military Occupational Specialty, MOS) has X number positions by rank scattered throughout the Army. This policy would result in the trans Soldiers being exempted from serving in those formations which places a much higher burden on the rest of the Soldiers with that MOS. They would have less opportunities to move from FORSCOM units to TRADOC or to Garrison Command units which don’t deploy.

Owego in reply to CommoChief. | June 14, 2023 at 12:45 pm

Agree. Here’s the problem. It is important that those occupying these positions are dependable and reliable and that they understand their responsibility to perform as ordered-when ordered, not just under circumstances they deem acceptable.

The risk seems two-fold in today’s military. Stridency among transgendered or transgender sympathizers in either the performing positions or among superiors within non-com and O ranks might leave concerns for satisfactory execution of orders.

But what does an old vet from sixty years ago know? How things have changed.

        diver64 in reply to fogflyer. | June 12, 2023 at 3:53 am

He made his money primary from the stock prices increasing in companies he founded. He started several Biotech and Biopharmaceutical companies. He also started an anti-woke investment fund called Strive that invests in companies promising to serve the customers and not go “woke.”

A clip from an article in Proactive…
Strive, an ‘anti-woke’ investment fund, has raised US$20mln from investors including billionaire entrepreneur Peter Thiel and hedge fund manager Bill Ackman to back companies that focus only on their business and do not take any ideological stands.

      inspectorudy in reply to thad_the_man. | June 9, 2023 at 11:22 am

Trump “Started” out as a millionaire with his dad’s fortune and went from there. He did build in NYC and was successful. He went bankrupt and then recovered. He was successful because he called all of the shots. That is his biggest asset in private life but his worst in politics. His TV show “You’re Fired” explains why he couldn’t get anything done in DC. He can’t fire elected officials no matter how incompetent they are. Every good POTUS has run into that issue but some handle it better than others. Trump has such a strong will that he cannot compromise and that is the name of the game in DC.

Crime Bill? Perhaps more accurate to say that the DC crowd was not willing to compromise. After all, they went after him with a vengeance not seen before or after. Making deals, Trump’s forte, is largely about compromise. It wasn’t him that was the issue.

inspectorudy in reply to oldschooltwentysix. | June 9, 2023 at 6:20 pm

I’m not talking about compromising with the Dems but his own party. Remember the first two years he had an R Congress and go nothing passed into law. He couldn’t even deal with his own party. The Rs were jerks but Trump’s big mouth played a big part in his failure. When was the last time you called your dentist an a$$hole BEFORE you sat in his chair? That was Trump with the R leadership in 2017.

I think he thought he could bully them. That was a fundamental mistake . . . that he kept repeating. Congresscritters are there for freaking decades, they see presidents come and go, and they don’t play well with bullies. Trump didn’t get DC then, and he doesn’t get it now. He can’t lead the party because he’s not even part of the party. That appeals to his base, but it’s just dysfunctional nuttery to everyone else.

I think Vivek’s and DeSantis’ statements are close. Vivek promised a pardon. DeSantis hinted at one and may have thought that it’s not smart to make commitments that are seen as too much. What is something really bad comes out about Trump in a trial? It looks like that won’t happen but is it proper to commit right now? I don’t know the answer, but I like both statements.

As a Floridian and a supporter of President Trump I find way too many “Trump supporters” acting more like Democrats with these vicious attacks on Governor Desantis. Get a grip. Desantis is not the enemy and neither is Trump. Unfortunately, way too many Trump supporters distaste Desantis and way too many Desantis supporters distaste Trump. This crap has to stop!

Sally MJ in reply to natdj. | June 9, 2023 at 9:53 pm

What bothers me the most is how a huge percentage of Trump supporters have turned into bullies toward DeSantis supporters. We, they say, are responsible if Trump loses. In the olden days, we would say that’s the fault of the person who loses.

And at least two Trump surrogates — Ric Grenell and Charlie Kirk — have asked the other GOP candidates in April and June, respectively, to drop out and support Trump, because of the indictments. NOTE: When Charlie Kirk asked the other candidates to “suspend their campaigns” and go to Palm Beach to support Trump, keep in mind that in politics, to “suspend one’s campaign” means to an end it. And Charlie Kirk, added that the candidates who don’t follow his demands are showing they are part of the problem. What the hell?

And they’re calling us Democrats and/or idiots. They have forgotten one of the important lessons learned by Hillary Clinton: You don’t insult voters. But they think they have carte blanche. They think they can definitely rely on our votes if Trump wins the primary. Hell, they expect us DeSantis supporters to vote for Trump in the primary! Frankly, Trump supporters insult us like Democrats, they’re bullies just like Democrats.

So at this point, the thing I most don’t like about Trump is Trump supporter bullies. They are helping to ensure they will not get as many votes as he would if they were not thugs.

And they’ve never said if Trump loses, they’ll vote for the GOP nominee. So Trump supporters now are not an asset. They are more of a dangling participle.

artichoke in reply to Sally MJ. | June 12, 2023 at 12:14 am

I am a broken record, but it bears remembering that Trump didn’t even go less than a mile to the Capitol. Look, I’ll vote for the Republican nominee unless it’s someone like Pence in which case I don’t know. But Trump did what he did, and this bad indictment doesn’t make me forget the other things.

DeSantis calibrates to whatever serves him best. A reason not to trust him, or any of the millions like him.

The candidates who seem to be exceptions seem to be Trump and Kennedy.

Ok. Let’s stipulate for the moment your description of DeSantis shifting to policies to accommodate public opinion (b/c what serves politicians best is votes) if that is as horrible as you seem to contend.

He promoted, got passed and signed into law legislation that
    1. prevents grooming kids in school
    2. Abolished State Tax dollars for DEI/CRT programs
    3. allows Constitutional firearm carry
    4. Sent illegal aliens to blue Sanctuary jurisdictions
    5. Refuses to recognize ID for illegal aliens issued by blue jurisdiction
    6. Prevents issue of ID to illegal aliens
    7. Sent units of FLNG to assist TX stopping illegal aliens

Incomplete list but those seem like pretty good things even if he only does them b/c it benefits him politically.

The inevitable result of treating the DOJ as a pseudo-independent branch of government. Leadership/personnel become corrupted over time with no real accountability. Add to that the most corrupt president in history (and that’s saying something given the recent democrat competition) and here we are. I fear the judiciary, a real independent branch, has become just about as corrupted.

I blame part of the DoJ problem on Trump because his choices for AG were terrible. He needed an ass-kicker but chose cream puffs instead. The divisions within the DoJ are full of left-wing lawyers who never worked with his AGs. They are so biased that getting anything done was useless. Trump actually gave the order to declassify ALL of the Russian Hoax papers before he left office but it never happened. They just ignored him. Remember when Clinton came into office he fired all of the federal prosecutors? Trump should have done the same thing but knew so little about DC and the way they work that he failed.

A Trump candidacy means 4 more years of Clueless Joe-Vote for DeSantis and help Trump get a competent attorney

All republican candidates need to pledge to pardon President Trump (if necessary) and Jan. 6 victims (and come to think of any deserving victims of this abusive DOJ ) Weak, “I’ll consider it” type statements won’t cut it. In fact, it should be part of the Republican platform.

CommoChief in reply to Concise. | June 9, 2023 at 9:43 am

The vast majority of the J6 folks, hell probably 99.5% likely deserve a pardon. There are a very few folks who were violent and/or destructive and those should be considered on a case by case basis. Some of this small subset of J6 may deserve a pardon but probably not all.

Concise in reply to CommoChief. | June 9, 2023 at 10:02 am

I confess I don’t know all the details of each case but no J6 defendant murdered or attempted to murder anyone one. And I suspect certain other circumstances (Ray Epps?) may support least a commutation of charges. Serious jail time for putting one’s feet on Nancy Pelosi’s desk is hardly just.

inspectorudy in reply to Concise. | June 9, 2023 at 11:30 am

I believe what you are trying to say is that all of the DoJ prosecutions from J6 should be reviewed and based on those findings, pardons considered. There was a violent group that was not part of the J6 speech given by Trump that was criminal in their initial acts. Many of these are guilty of small crimes such as property destruction and breaking and entering but not insurrection. No one there should be charged with that nonsense.

artichoke in reply to inspectorudy. | June 12, 2023 at 12:19 am

Ray Epps should be tried, convicted, and serve decades in prison. Maybe some of his buddies in this plot. The non-conspirators (the ones they’ve hauled into court the past year or two) should mostly be set free.

CommoChief in reply to Concise. | June 9, 2023 at 1:12 pm

There were a very small number of folks among the thousands of other J6 folks who very likely don’t deserve a pardon. Calling for an unequivocal blanket pardon would include this couple handfuls of folks that don’t deserve one.

Then that would then be used as club to beat the candidates with. ‘See, the GoP nominee, their whole party platform called for a full pardon for’ insert bad person name, photo and video of them breaking in the building or striking/pushing LEO, who did X, Y and Z very bad things’.

      txvet2 in reply to CommoChief. | June 9, 2023 at 6:23 pm

I think that a thorough investigation would reveal that, as has happened in many other instances, the main instigators were government agents – like the guys in khakis and sunglasses.

Like most of DeSantis’ statements they are predictable and weak. The violations against the 4th Amend arethrough the roof here. Same with the 6th.

The DOJ has already predicated the baseline of their claim by saying they cannot tell anyone, even the court, what the nature of the documents are that underpin their assertion. Remember, they wouldn’t even let a court appointed “special master” review the documents.

I thought his tweet was good. I though Scott’s was better for pointing out the weird timing in the indictment came same day we found out Biden was indeed getting $5million from Ukraine. More to the point, from someone tied directly to Burisma where Hunter was getting $80k month for no-one knows what and after forcing the firing of a prosecutor looking into it in exchange for $1 Billion in loan guarantees.
BTW: that guy on the stage with Brandon when he was bragging how big his Swinging Richard in blackmailing Ukraine is Mr Carpenter who just so happened to be put in charge of the Biden Center For Chinese Payoffs where some of those Classified Docs were that dealt with Ukraine. Wonder what is in those?

JackinSilverSpring | June 9, 2023 at 9:43 am

inspectorudy in reply to JackinSilverSpring. | June 9, 2023 at 11:37 am

I thought it was a good reply. I think one of DeSantis’s strong points is that he doesn’t resort to hyperbole constantly. This a trait that Trump doesn’t share. Many thought that DeSantis saying he wouldn’t tolerate this kind of DoJ without going into the condemnation of a laundry list of other issues, that he wasn’t strong. I disagree because he is not a goader and inflamer of emotions when he speaks. He stays calm and speaks like a man in control, not an inciter.

artichoke in reply to inspectorudy. | June 12, 2023 at 12:21 am

He speaks a little and does a lot. Sometimes he gets more done by not tipping his hand i.e. revocation of Reedy Creek Improvement District, although now Disney is fighting back with very questionable legal tactics.

Tepid. Would have preferred something stronger. After all, it’s an unprecedented abuse of governmental power. But the frenzy of Twitter and the like is something to behold. Talking heads with nothing better to do.

It is absolutely not unprecedented to prosecute someone who takes classified documents and refuses to give them back.

Here is a naval reservist who took too many pictures while deployed

    https://www.navytimes.com/news/your-navy/2015/07/30/navy-engineer-sentenced-for-mishandling-classified-material/

Here is another case of being convicted for taking classified documents

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harold_T._Martin

DeSantis is right to attack the double standard and selective enforcement aspect because what the government did in enforcing the law is not unpreceded.

      Yeah, it’s precedented. Ridiculous!

Impressive spamming and pontificating in the other thread. Started to think you worked for Jack Smith.

        Are you an illiterate cretin?

I literally posted multiple nearly identical cases for you proving it is not unprecedented.

Things like you are the monsters who have turned entire centuries into graveyards on behalf of dear leader.

These are laws that are enforced, they weren’t enforced against Hillary setting a political double standard where Democrat politicians are concerned but they are enforced and I just posted multiple cases of them being enforced.

Trump was his own worst enemy. All he had to do was tell someone it was declassified and it was declassified, or write it was declassified and by his own admission he never did that.

All he had to do after making that mistake not to be prosecuted was to cooperate with the requests of the federal government to send those documents back.

I voted twice for Trump and would do it again against any Democrat. Still, he and his partisans are engaged in an extended childish hissy fit directed at DeSantis. Can we tell a senior citizen to grow up?

This is exactly the right tone to take.

You don’t have to pretend Trump declassified the documents (he didn’t) or that the case is a weak one to be against pursuing it on grounds it is being selectively enforced.

“Trump, Hillary and Hunter committed crimes but they single out Trump. As President I would apply law equally and prosecute all three of them.”

Now go ahead and re-read his statement while singing his praises.

Except that is not what he said. Not even close.

George S in reply to Fuzzy Slippers. | June 9, 2023 at 11:50 am

      Re-read it again.

The weaponization of government is prosecuting a Republican while ignoring a Democrat (in this case two).

According to RdS, the mortal threat is not going after a past president the way banana republics do but by prosecuting a past Republican president while ignoring a Democrat. president.

The mortal threat is throwing politicians in jail for being popular with the people, so they cannot run again.

Is that how RdS statement sounded to you? Not to me.

DeSantis cannot win a presidential general election against any Democrat in a 2-man contest, because the abortion issue alone will prevent him from winning any of the swing states. The Democrats have no fear of DeSantis unless a spoiler like Manchin enters the fray. Trump is the only threat to the Democrats in 2024.

I disagree, as I wrote in response to your earlier formulation:

DeSantis does not support a national abortion ban, where on earth did you get that idea? He signed a six-week abortion ban here in Florida because that was doable. He didn’t ban it. And he is certainly not out there campaigning on a national anything to do with abortion. He’s a governor. He’s most likely to side with states rights on abortion. Doing otherwise would be political suicide.

    CommoChief in reply to The_Mew_Cat. | June 9, 2023 at 1:19 pm

Where are you getting this idea of DeSantis pushing for national abortion legislation? He has not done that. The smart play is say something along the lines of:
‘Dobbs returned the issue to the States and the people of each State will decide the question for themselves working through their legislature just like we did in FL’.

    inspectorudy in reply to The_Mew_Cat. | June 9, 2023 at 6:38 pm

I’ll give you a break since you must have been on Mars during the battle after the SCOTUS said all abortion laws were state functions. There is no national platform for abortion any longer. Oh, there will be a few demagogues who will claim to fight to make it a national law to allow abortion on demand up until delivery, but they have no power to do it. IMHO, I think the abortion madness has died down a little and will not have the effect it did in the midterms.

How did you end up confusing Ron DeSantis with Lindsey Graham?

    artichoke in reply to The_Mew_Cat. | June 12, 2023 at 12:26 am

I think Trump is the one the Dems want nominated, because he’s so polarizing and his supporters have done some things that haven’t aged well, and he’s alienated supporters by hiring the swamp and leaving them hanging on and after J6. It won’t be the old Trump coalition. I for one won’t forgive him for his J6 deceptions. One can’t follow such a commander into battle.

However I would vote for him in a general election against Biden. I’d vote for almost any of the Republicans, maybe excluding Pence.

inspectorudy | June 9, 2023 at 11:46 am

I hope that this fake charge does not eliminate Trump from the campaign because of the damage it will do to our country. But if it does, the MAGA crowd has to come to terms with it and not do a stupid thing like writing him in on their ballots. Just like in a battle when the favorite commander is slain, the battle must go on and the next best leader chosen. We have to be realistic and react to what happens in a way that will give us a victory over the tyranny that is present in our government today. We can all hope and pray that Trump will be victorious but if not let’s have a plan B.

artichoke in reply to inspectorudy. | June 12, 2023 at 12:28 am

It may turn Trump into the nominee. And I think that would be unfortunate because the R’s have stronger candidates for the general election. Could this be a Dem plot to get Trump nominated, the one they think they can beat in 2024, while also hoping a few more R’s step out of line and can be thrown in prison on wildly exaggerated charges? I wouldn’t put it past them.

It will be interesting to see if Hunter Biden (and derivatively father Joe) is a big loser in the Trump indictment? Will federal prosecutors go hard against Hunter for fear that going easy could help Trump’s reëlection effort? The disparate treatment of Hillary for a more serious offense–by one who had no legal authority to declassify sensitive information–only highlights the difference between the fates of Democrats and Republicans in the criminal justice system.

artichoke in reply to nisquire. | June 12, 2023 at 12:29 am

Not these federal prosecutors. We have to elect a Republican president first. Although we can immediately go after Garland with impeachment, and we should.

Doublebroadside | June 9, 2023 at 1:00 pm

Tell me “I hope they can take President Trump out” without saying “I hope they can take President Trump out”:

“The weaponization of federal law enforcement represents a mortal threat to a free society. We have for years witnessed an uneven application of the law depending upon political affiliation”.

At no point does Gov. DeSantis defend President Trump from this perfidious persecution. At no point does he assert President Trump’s obvious innocence.

Unless he explicitly calls this out as a lie and coup, he is deflecting and ducking.

CommoChief in reply to Doublebroadside. | June 9, 2023 at 1:25 pm

A coup wouldn’t apply b/c Trump doesn’t hold any office to be removed from. Is ‘it’ a lie? Trump did have docs and didn’t return them when asked so that much of ‘it’ isn’t a lie. If the innocence is obvious then the motion to dismiss will be granted and he can get back to campaigning right?

George S in reply to Doublebroadside. | June 9, 2023 at 2:42 pm

“The weaponization of federal law enforcement [by a sitting president to arrest his candidate opponent so he cannot run against him] represents a mortal threat to a free society.”

All he had to say should have been that.

inspectorudy in reply to Doublebroadside. | June 9, 2023 at 6:46 pm

Hey Double, you had better hold your fire a little longer because after looking and hearing some of the evidence they have against Trump before calling Trump’s obvious innocence on some charges may be in doubt. Obstruction is probably the number one issue and that seems to be provable. The National Espionage Act charges are just crap. But, his own unwillingness to cooperate is the root of it all. Of course, it is unfair but like a cop stop in your car, if you are innocent and comply you are ok. But if you lie and deceive then you make your own bed.

artichoke in reply to inspectorudy. | June 12, 2023 at 12:32 am

Yeah maybe he isn’t innocent. Maybe he committed a few felonies. Maybe the average American commits 4 felonies a day. FFS they forced his lawyers to testify about attorney-client communications against him. I don’t really care if he committed any of the listed charges until Hunter’s aged a few decades in prison for his much greater crimes, and Joe too for his clear crimes as VP. I don’t care. The law has to be applied evenly, so Trump must walk.

DeSantis got it right.

Mr. DeSantis is spot on. Back in the Sillier ‘Seventies, weaponizing the IRS against political opponents was the second count on the list of offenses for which Nixon would have been impeached. It was a sad day for our country when Obama and Yellen got away with it.

inspectorudy | June 12, 2023 at 2:59 pm

I am a DeSantis man all the way but this is a national; crisis! This is the end of our Republic if this is allowed to stand. The bravest and hardest thing that DeSantis will ever do would be to announce that he is dropping out of the race and is going to vote for Trump! The public has not let this sink in yet as to the magnitude of evil and unAmerican this persecution of a political opponent is. This is third-world crap. We must not sit back and let it “Playout” because we know the msm will cover it as if it is the law and proper. Once the trial ends it will be too late with only an appeal left.

artichoke in reply to inspectorudy. | June 13, 2023 at 12:40 pm

Did you sleep thru the past 5 years of crises? But what about the republic? It’s probably gone already, but if there’s a chance to save it, we need someone who’s really willing to fight dirty to win. That’s DeSantis.

It’s nice to express support for Trump as he goes through this. It’s terribly unfair, almost as bad as what happened to the J6 people. (They got hostile judges.) But one can still vote for someone else in the primary, as more likely to win and to be effective if elected.

Another publicity stunt by DeSantus doesn’t mean he’s a RINO. Take do nothing snake in the grass Graham for example, he wants to stay tuned all the way to gitmo.

Interesting contrast. Trump attacks DeSantis. DeSantis comes to Trump’s defense on the indictment. It is the difference in character that should make the difference in the Republican primaries. DeSantis is more electable and could serve possible for eight years. Trump would be limited by the constitution to a maximum of four more years. Who wants a Biden=Trump re-run? Support Trump but now prefer DeSantis.

healthguyfsu | June 13, 2023 at 4:16 pm

Trump cultists are such a pathetic bunch. I’d love to pull a Democrat and replace you all with dead auto votes. You’re a pile of dumbasses that want to ruin this country as badly as the Democrats anyways.
