Elon Musk Pulls a Reagan vs. Air Traffic Controllers Move by Firing Janitors Protesting at Twitter
“Our cleaning contractor at Twitter was told by Twitter that they are cutting the contract”
Do you remember when the air traffic controllers went on strike in 1981, and President Reagan responded by firing over 11,000 of them?
Elon Musk just took a page out of that playbook, dealing with a group of janitors protesting at Twitter’s offices in San Francisco over the firing of other employees.
The Blaze reports:
Janitors’ union called a strike outside Twitter, so Elon Musk canceled its contract and fired the janitors
Janitors hired to clean at Twitter headquarters in San Francisco, California, protested after 20 employees were fired, so the social media company bought by Elon Musk fired the rest of them.
Critics of Musk are outraged that he would fire the workers just weeks before Christmas.
“Our cleaning contractor at Twitter was told by Twitter that they are cutting the contract,” said Olga Miranda, union president for the janitors. “So we have about 48 families out of work. And it just so happens that it’s three weeks before Christmas.”
A representative from SEIU Local 87 told the New Republic that 20 janitors were told on Friday that they were fired with no notice and that they were fighting for wages, “benefits and job protections.”
By Monday, the union organized a strike with the rest of the janitors against the firings, saying the company was violating local cleaning regulations. They also said they were locked out of the building.
On Tuesday, Twitter cancelled the contract with the janitors, leading his critics to claim that he was in violation of local laws.

Now let’s all remind the left of what they said every time Twitter shut down a conservative. Twitter is a private company, and it can do whatever they want.
Here’s a video report from NBC News in San Francisco:
Matt Vespa of Townhall suggests that this is proof that Musk has more significant issues to deal with:
It’s a Reaganesque move, showing that Musk has little to no time to waste on these matters as he deals with severe internal issues, namely how a former FBI official scrubbed internal documents detailing how Twitter censored the Hunter Biden laptop story. This person, James Baker, was formerly with the FBI’s general counsel. Before his role was discovered, Baker was Twitter’s deputy general counsel, and Musk fired him on Tuesday.
Mr. Baker was revealed to be part of the group reviewing the files about the social media giant’s Hunter Biden protocols, the first batch of which was reported by former Rolling Stone reporter Matt Taibbi last Friday. Baker was one of the main stooges who kept the Russian collusion hoax alive within the walls of the DOJ.
This is an important reminder:
How Elon Musk Handled a Janitors Strike at Twitter HQ.
For comparison, 20 janitors lose their jobs and it's national news and the Dems are outranged. 11,000 pipeline workers lost their job thanks to Biden and it was (mostly) crickets.
Enjoy the show!

personally I’m waiting for the announcement he is moving Twitter to Texas
Me too. Hopefully he’ll put it somewhere besides Austin. I don’t think he can complete the ideological purge of progressive twats if he goes to Austin… too many prog twats here.
If he does, it can’t be anywhere but Austin. That’s where Big Tech from Calif. has already been gravitating to. It’s where Tesla is. It’s where his home is. It’s where the capital is. He certainly won’t move it to the RGV with SpaceX. No other large city works out.
I’m afraid you are correct. At this point Austin already has a huge pool of software talent.
He can move it to Dallas, lots of IT there
The people who work for these companies don’t flock to a place like Dallas. Dallas was hot when JR was on TV.
DFW has things like AT&T and TI. That’s old tech. Many corporate HQs here but it’s stuff like McKesson, AA, Charles Schwab, the PGA. It’s not a magnet for young turks. DFW does not have Apple, Amazon, Google, Facebook, Oracle, now Tesla HQ. Austin has all of them. The culture of DFW compared to Austin is night and day.
Dallas and FW courted Musk for Tesla HQ. He turned them down for Austin. He’s looking at a new battery factory near Corpus. If DFW had the appeal, he’d be here.
Keep the poisoned minds in one place. So, Austin. Who wants a bunch of Shrldons spread throughout the state?
It’s already spread throughout the state . ALL the major cities are blue, take your pick, if he moves it to suburbs he just makes it larger amd bluer
Howe ever, because of the downturn, FB is not leasing a major sky breaker in Austin, so they would love to have Twitter
His best bet to cheaply and thoroughly complete the purge of political activists is an HQ move to…. Waco, TX.
The mere mention of the name will send shivers down the spines of the SJWs of Twitter/SF. They WON’T make that move.
Plus there’s tons of internationally competitive IT + Engineering talent graduating every year within an hr of Waco – UT in Austin, Texas A&M in College Station and Baylor in Waco.
The whole Magnolia Megaplex from Chip and Joanna Gaines (HGTV) is spawning a whole ecosystem of small businesses with young people. Waco is getting to be a cool place – esp for much more cautious Gen Z…
Miami has merit, but too many SJWs would make the move and stick to Twitter like saddle burrs.
If he ended the contract with the janitorial company then they work for that company, not Twitter. The company itself is the one firing them if they cannot shift them to another contract.
Exactly. They work for the janitorial company. They are not twitter employees.
And if the contractor was not providing the services agreed upon, cutting the contract is a perfectly reasonable reaction.
And if the employees need new jobs before Christmas, they’re welcome to… scab.
Or, learn to code.
I love Musk’s tactical insight. He really is a very sharp cookie.
Looks to me like that union was pulling the same thing all those useless seat warmers at Twitter were doing. Padding the numbers of required employees. Musk showed up, looked around and decided to save some money. He has run a company or two before and might know something about staffing levels. He sure knows money and profit.
That union f ed up, they are contract, Musk knows it, and now they are sitting high and dry.
FAFO
WDTM? TYVM.
F*cked Around and Found Out
or
F*ck Around and Find Out
Thank you.
That was exactly my first thought as well.
Always this whining about layoffs “weeks before Christmas”. December 26th is “weeks” before Christmas.
You struck. You picketed. Deal with it.
“20 janitors lose their jobs and it’s national news and the Dems are outranged. 11,000 pipeline workers lost their job thanks to Biden and it was (mostly) crickets.”
But… but… this was right before… um… the Holiday That Dare Not Speak Its Name!
Good CATCH!!! Good one!
OK, but it is an irregular* noun. “Christmas” when you’re trying for mainstream, the “holidays”when you’re looking for woke credibility.
(*Look it up, it’s in all the grammar texts. Like my favourite irregular adjective – I am individualist, you are eccentric, zhe is crazy.)
Now they can spend quality time with their families. There is a reason some people are janitors, usually because they lack more meaningful skills.
Now they can pursue all of the other more important things in life, like art, their hobbies, and spending time catching up on Netflix.
Why did it become “Christmas”? Was it for sympathy? The correct speech is that they were fired “During the Holidays”. That just doesn’t have the emotional appeal, does it?
They should just learn to code.
Does anyone have a Delphi compiler gathering dust that I can have?
Any of these fit the bill? —

👍
I doubt any of them are smart enough to code.
a woke broom sweeps keen
They were saying the they are needed because a clean area is important… this is San Francisco!!! Watch your step and don’t touch anything.
Elon Musk didn’t fire anybody.
— Twitter, the company cut a contract.
— The contracting company fired their employees.
— Those employees’ union couldn’t or wouldn’t keep them employed, keep the contract in place, or cover them when terminated.
— The chattering classes’ shame-blasting couldn’t keep any of this in place.
The various complainers’ complaints amount to: “How dare you stop the money stream we were taking credit and our cut from?”
Useless people do hate it when you shut down their grift.
Do we know the contracting company fired the workers?
If they are still employed, I’m sure they’ll find nearly full-time work as replacements for workers who call in sick or are taking leave time. It’s SF. A big city. There must be plenty of offices that need cleaning and janitorial staff that requires substitute workers.
Even if fired, they can temp with similar prospects.
no longer get to bite the hand that feeds you
After seeing 8000 people broomed, one would think they would know better.
“no longer…”
So much this…
“…Olga Miranda, union president for the janitors. “So we have about 48 families out of work. And it just so happens that it’s three weeks before Christmas.””
Well, you shouldn’t have sent them out on strike just before Christmas. Screw around and find out how the real world works.
Anybody else thinks it’s less than a year until Musk moves that workforce to Austin with the Tesla guys?
And, does he take all that SF mentality to Austin? Or, does he take a select few and rebuild with fresh clear minds?
He tells everybody the company is relocating to Mordor, where anyone who gets an abortion or doesn’t buy Kid Rock tickets will burn in a fiery pit forever, then lets the problem sort itself out.
I’m guessing for the SJWs,
Waco, TX = Mordor
For the abortion groupies, anyplace in Texas is Mordor.
There are no fresh clear minds in Austin
After getting rid of 8000 people, they didn’t need all those janitors. They did Musk a favor.
And yet, we’ve had months of “Twitter loses money.” “Twitter’s gonna implode.” and “Musk was a putz.” I am no longer surprised, but remain puzzled — the organization and its ecosystem need to be viable, or your cozy sinecure goes away.
You got bought (or restructured, or new “leadership”, or…) Figure out how to be part of making it work, because whatever you were doing before wasn’t part of a working formula.
For my W2 job, I manage contracts… for a big big company. At points in my career I’ve overseen facilities contracts.
I’m actually surprised the janitorial contract was through Twitter direct and not through some company that manages facilities in a larger capacity. In that scenario twitter wouldn’t even have to bother since it’s a subcontractor of a contractor.
Learn to journalist.
It’s now CHRISTMAS instead of Winter Break! So I guess we won’t be hearing the tired scolds mouth “did you know the Christmas tree is a pagan ritual!?!?!” nonsense for Three Weeks.
The left played the libertarian capitalist role “Twitter can do whatever it wants” capitalist when it suited their self-serving needs. Now the left is back in Socialist mode.
3 weeks before Christmas?! That’s offensive.
It’s 3 weeks before holidays.
We call them the Bermuda Triangle of Emotions, TG, XMAS, and NY.
