Grand Jury Indicts Texas School Board Members for Alleged Critical Race Theory Secret Meetings

Two days ago, we ran a story about teachers in California who were told to hide Critical Race Theory materials from parents.
Now we are learning of a similar situation in Texas, involving school board members.
Luke Rosiak reports at the Daily Wire:
Grand Jury Indicts School Board Members For Alleged Secret Discussions About Racial Agenda
Two Texas school board members were indicted on charges that they violated the Open Meetings Act as they discussed a racial agenda that was widely opposed by their constituents.
Carroll Independent School District (CISD) president Michelle Moore and vice president Todd Carlton were indicted by a grand jury for texts involving the school district’s “Cultural Competence Action Plan,” The Texan reported.
The board is required to meet in public, but the texts allegedly involved enough school board members that it may have amounted to a secret, unofficial meeting under the law.
In December, a judge separately instituted a restraining order prohibiting the school officials from moving forward with work related to a District Diversity Council, which in August issued a 34-page plan that included a proposal for racial training in schools that would cost $425,000 the first year, including $35,000 for speakers.
The cultural competence plan called for hiring “a Director of Equity and Inclusion” and “embed[ding] diversity and inclusion training for students as an ‘enrollment to graduation’ process in all grades.”
Rosiak points out that the hiring of a diversity administrator likely would have led to the implementation of Critical Race Training.
Eric Lendrum of American Greatness emphasizes the same point:
CISD had previously attempted to implement conditions recommended by a report from a “District Diversity Council” in August of last year. The report, among other things, suggested hiring a “Director of Equity and Inclusion,” “embedding diversity and inclusion training for students as an ‘enrollment to graduation’ process in all grades,” and spending over $425,000 on “racial training,” including approximately $35,000 to bring speakers to school. A judge in December ultimately issued a restraining order halting the district’s efforts to implement these plans.
The fact that educators in two different states have been caught secretly plotting to implement Critical Race Training in the same week should ring every parental alarm bell that exists.
The left knows that parents don’t want this, but leftists are advancing their agenda anyway, in secret.
These are not people who care about the well being of your children.

Indicted for text messages? No, that sounds like free speech. I’m completely in favor of indicting every school board in the country but I don’t think this case is going to stick.
If the text messages constitute discourse that would normally be part of a meeting then it is possible.
I don’t think it’s likely, but at least it is a warning to stop trying to stuff your personal propaganda into your elected duties.
irv, we already have SCOTUS precedent that text messages, tweets, and anything that a government official (President Trump) sends are government records that cannot be kept secret from a member of the public, whether by blocking a reader or whatever.

Government workers are taught by their employers that work-related business conducted via private means of communication are still work and they, and any documentation memorializing the discussions, are subject to document disclosure requests. Just because the discussions took place on private channels and while not on the clock does not necessarily protect them. If they were discussing personal sentiments, that may be private. But if their discussions concerned policy implementation, funding, or other subjects that they could have discussed while in session, they may be up the proverbial creek.
To the contrary, open meeting cases just like this (and even looser) have already stuck.
There are strict laws in my State about any meetings by any appointed commission or elected officials being without notice and open to the public.

No, indicted for allegedly conducting official school business in a secret, off the record school board meeting (via text messaging) to discuss implementation of a CRT agenda that the board members knew would not be a popular subject if brought up in a public board meeting.
A violation of public meeting laws as well as established rules/regulations concerning the creation and maintenance of accurate and complete records of the deliberations and decisions of the school board.

But for those of us fighting to keep this lazy, “critical” race theory BS out of our schools, you should set aside your angst and fight to ensure the focus of schools is on fundamentals.
Critical Race Theory presumes diversity (i.e. color judgment), not limited to racism, a minority issue, denies individual dignity, individual conscience, intrinsic value, normalizes color blocs (e.g. people of white), color quotas, and affirmative discrimination. Diversity is a dogmatic belief of the Progressive Church/Synagogue/Corporation/Chamber/Clinic etc. under the Pro-Choice religion. One step forward, two steps backward.

If I could find a way to say this privately I would. I don’t meant to offend at all, but I don’t think these posts that look like “liberal word salad” come off as effective as you think. They always essentially say the same thing. I’d love to hear more of your personal voice and relatable thoughts on what you think because I think of you as highly intelligent and capable of providing meaningful substance.

While I think most of the commenters here would agree on most issues, some comments come across as aggressively belligerent, and therefore unnecessarily offensive. I have friends on the left who I think could benefit from the content of LI articles, but who would be likely to dismiss the whole site based on the intemperance of some of the comments. I think this has the effect of limiting the reach of the excellent work of the LI staff.

I find the conservative commenters here to be remarkably considerate in their responses to the articles posted. If they occasionally trounce on a lefty troll, it’s the kind of response the troll is hoping to get. I feel very confident in recommending LI to my more liberal friends because they know how to behave in someone else’s house. If your friends are well-behaved, the responses to them will also be polite.
We have a dementia patient in the White House running the country as if he were a lone dictator; a lightweight who couldn’t even get enough votes from her own party to survive the first round of primaries second in command; an ongoing invasion of our country by foreign nationals of military age being officially invited in; a revival (out of nowhere) of naked racism (this time against whites); an FBI that is ignoring criminal activity and concentrating on repressing the political opposition; a health secretary with mental health issues; a health czar who can’t maintain consistent recommendations; a gun czar who hates guns and has actually participated in the murder of children of gun owners; a nationwide Marxist cabal warping the minds of our schoolchildren; and a news estate that deals in nothing but one-sided propaganda and censorship.

You can actually make sense of n.n.’s comments? I suspect I would agree with a lot of his/her comments if I could understand them, but I usually skip them because it’s too much work to figure out what they mean.
There is really only one lasting solution. Defund the public schools.

I agree. The idea that education should be run by a government bureaucracy is simply madness. However, people like you and me cannot implement school choice or defund government schools on our own. We are dependent on our government representatives, who are subject to re-election constraints and lobbying from leftists and teachers unions.
One action we can immediately take on our own is to remove our children from the government schools. Another is to help other parents to do so. Another is to inform parents and church leadership about the true nature of the government schools.
Defunding public schools is a great idea. However, that might be a bridge too far. How about decriminalizing school truancy? And loosen rules about who can and when take the GED test, and test right out of high School.
And defund and prohibit Unions in public education.
In Massachusetts, the Open Meeting Law is pretty strict. I am on a 3 person Town Board and therefore I can only discuss Board related business in an open meeting.
You can be sure that there are 100s or 1,000s of similar private discussions by school board members who believe it’s their mission to enlighten the kids – whether parents agree or not.
We have already lost a generation to this nonsense. Talk to most teenagers – they are brainwashed. Adopting all the Marxist language and views. My daughter was taught that the Police came about because slave owners needed people to capture runaway slaves. She now HATES the police. She thinks socialism is the right direction. (BTW it’s a NY school)
This must be stopped. Home schooling if necessary. Every sane person (meaning no Marxists) should run for their local school board and return it to sanity. Schools should be for leaning – not for political indoctrination.
