Worth noting Senator Hirono consistently asks *every* judicial nominee if they have sexually assaulted anyone. It is not a question specifically targeting ACB. If asked across the board, which it is, it's a decent question. Plenty to criticize about Hirono but that isn't it IMHO.

This line of questioning has got to be so as to lay the groundwork for some heretofore unheard of “witness” who the Dems will trot out on Thursday, to claim that Judge Barrett propositioned him/her at some vague time in the past.
The Dems then will demand the FBI investigate these “serious” charges, etc etc. Demand a delay, and so forth.
Same old, same old.
Prediction: it will be a librarian from Notre Dame. She will say ACB returned a book with a salacious note in it, which is now burned into her hippocampus. Then ACB’s clique all started leaving notes in the books. She had to have a bay window installed in her house to escape the trauma.
The librarian will even remember which book it was. Subsequent investigation will determine that Notre Dame’s library never had said book in its collection.
What would embarrass a staunch Catholic woman who is married with children, has a spotless judicial and academic record? What would the proverbial silver bullet be that could end her nomination?
Allegations that she:
1) Had an affair with a law school student?
2) Sexually harassed a ND faculty member?
3) Illegally burnt private DVD copies of the entire collection of 50 Shades of Grey from Netflix?

How can anyone possibly say under oath that they have never made unwanted requests for sexual favors? How could they know?
Even if her husband is the only person she has ever asked for a sexual favor, and he has never turned her down, how can she be sure he always wanted the request? Maybe one day he wasn’t in the mood and only acquiesced because she asked.
I am reasonably sure that Kavanaugh has, in his time, made unwanted requests for sexual favors. I’m also reasonably sure Hirono has done so, as has every person who is not celibate and not very religious. When did it become wrong?
It’s kind of a Schrodinger’s Cat dilemma: One can’t really know if a sexual advance is wanted or unwanted until it’s asked, and only then does the probability wave function collapse into a dead cat or live cat, wanted or unwanted sexual advance. Sometimes you just have to run the experiment to get the answer. Shouldn’t that be the position of a party that pretends, and has pretentions about, being the “Party of Science”?
The question must be answered from one’s own personal perspective. If you truthfully believe you have not made unwanted advances the answer is no. Other people perceive events differently.
What would you say if a police officer stopped you and said “Some women complained that you were harassing them; you were staring at their ..” — and you were not. They may well think you did.
Maybe one of ACB’s mental skills is mind reading. She does seem wicked smart…
The question can’t be answered from one’s own personal perspective. Whether an advance is wanted or unwanted depends entirely on the other person. I mean by definition any advance you make is wanted by you. But it may or may not be wanted by the other person, and not only can’t you know that in advance, you may not even know it after the event, if the person chose not to tell you.
The whole notion that it’s wrong to make unwanted advances, or even that one should be punished for making unwanted advances, is fundamentally evil, because it holds people to an impossible standard. It’s all very well to say that one must take “no” for an answer; but to say that one must never ask if there is any chance at all that the answer might be “no”, I mean how can anybody support such an idea?
Every request from Mulhouse is unwanted. Just ask Lisa Simpson.

The Blasey-Fraud attack on Kavanaugh was so risible that it was hard to predict. They’ll stage one or more similarly ludicrous attacks on Barrett, while CNN and Mitt Romney tut-tut about the seriousness of the charges. I hope that the Republicans are ready for it, and that they hit back for once in their cowardly, compromising lives.
I think they just want to scare a RINO or two, like Mittens and Murkowski, to see if they’ll waffle their way to support delaying the confirmation vote until after the election, in hopes they can cheat their way to a win of the White House or to a takeover of control of the Senate, and then deep six the nomination.
I am not sure what delaying the vote until after the election does for them. For example, Collins could then vote for her, whether she wins re-election – 6 years until up again – or loses – no consequence at all.

These people are evil. In a situation like this it would be a slimy, asinine question no matter who it is directed to. It would only be appropriate (maybe) if the person being asked is under suspicion of being a harasser – and then it would be incumbent on the questioner to specify what accusations are being made. Hirono may as well have asked, “Have you ever molested a child?” or “Have you ever committed war crimes?” or “Have you ever had sex with Hitler?” or some other inane evidence-free accusation. Hirono did this solely to imply wrongdoing on Barrett’s part without having to supply proof.
I have been subjected to a number of background checks, and I was never asked a question remotely like that. Hirono’s fishing expedition – like the Senator herself – is evil.

It is a separate question entirely. “(Implied Have you)”committed any verbal or physical harassment? Question three: (Implied ‘have you committed an) “assault of a sexual nature?”
They are going to come up with clerks and whatnot who say that she verbally or physically harassed them, probably for not doing their job. She likely even *gasp* fired them.

Barrett’s legal mind and poise is light years ahead of anything you could hope to achieve. If you are not definitive in an answer to that question you open yourself up for further probing. When the policeman asks “Have you had anything to drink tonight Sir” and you say “just a beer” you have just given the Officer probable cause to investigate further.
