Andrew McCabe Using Coronavirus Fears to Escape Testifying in Russia Investigation
“Mr. McCabe is willing, able, and eager to testify in person about Crossfire Hurricane at any time in the future when it is safe to do so.”
Andrew McCabe, the former deputy director of the FBI embroiled in the Russia collusion hoax of the 2016 election, was slated to testify before Congress this week as part of the ongoing investigation into the origins of the FBI probe.
He is now refusing to do so based on the threat of Coronavirus. Yet he won’t even testify remotely.
This is absurd.
Professor Jonathan Turley writes:
McCabe: I Will Not Testify Out of Fear For My Health … Even Remotely
Former FBI Deputy Director (and CNN contributor) Andrew McCabe has long said that he was willing to answer questions under oath about his controversial actions in the Russian investigation. He was scheduled to do so on Tuesday, but he now has refused — citing the infection of three senators with Covid-19. However, McCabe also refuses to testify remotely as did both former FBI Director James Comey and former Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates. He simply says that “fairness” dictates that he not testify at all. The basis for his refusal to appear remotely is utterly and almost comically absurd.
It is hard to see the letter as anything other than a mocking refusal not to go under oath. McCabe knows that the Democrats may retake the Senate and the White House. At that point, Democratic senators are expected to shutdown all continuing investigations related to McCabe and misconduct in the Russian investigation. The problem is that recent disclosures have magnified concerns of serious conduct in the Russian investigation and, in the last few months, Comey, Yates, and former Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein said that they would not have signed off on the Page application if they knew then what they know today. Rosenstein called for further investigation into FBI misconduct, including matters that would relate to McCabe. Rosenstein expressly slammed McCabe in his testimony.
McCabe’s lawyer, Michael R. Bromwich McCabe is “willing, able, and eager to testify in person” about the FBI’s Russia investigation “when it is safe to do so.”
McCabe’s attorney suggested that testifying remotely just wouldn’t be fair.
Tal Axelrod reports at The Hill:
“Mr. McCabe is willing, able, and eager to testify in person about Crossfire Hurricane at any time in the future when it is safe to do so. But he is not willing to put his family’s health at risk to do so,” he continued. “For these reasons, we are unwilling to appear in person for the October 6 hearing; and for reasons of fairness, we are unwilling to testify remotely. A fair and appropriate hearing of this kind — which is complex and contentious — simply cannot be conducted other than in person.”
Professor Turley notes that McCabe has no problem making remote appearances on CNN, and that this looks like McCabe trying to run out the clock on a possible change in Senate control:
McCabe (who was a controversial addition to the CNN team) has been going on television to deny allegations and attack these hearings, including bizarre interviews spinning his own conduct. He will continue to do so but will refuse to give such answers under oath as he runs out the time for a possible Democratic takeover of the Senate.
This is an excellent reminder of how much is at stake in the election. If Trump and Senate Republicans lose in November, this investigation will be thrown into the dustbin of history.

If you’re scared say you’re scared?
He’s not scared. He’s got Barr on his side, apparently.
Might you proffer an explanation, please?
Oh he ain’t scared of Rona he’s scared of being a pretty boy FED in prison. I haven’t seen many of his contemporaries defending him because, IMO, they don’t like him and as long as they don’t get dragged down with him they are happy to see it.
NO excuses.
Get him a hazmat suit.
Period.
AG Barr punted.
Feeling good, AG Barr?
“Punted” on what, sir?
If Trump wins but the Dems keep the house and win the senate, Trump will be impeached and convicted.
That’s my belief, and I’m sticking to it.
Undoubtedly, and history will record that “Orange Man Bad” is a high crime or misdemeanor.
It takes a two-thirds majority in the Senate to convict.
That’ll be the beginning of the civil war.
A 2/3 vote in the Senate is needed to convict. If the Dems have say 51 votes in the Senate, do you still think they would convict? Or would they use their majority to set things up procedurally so that the result is inevitable (say, not allowing any defense witnesses).
Even if you are right about the House and the Senate control, do you really believe the Dems will be able to pull together 67 votes to convict?
Since when do criminals get to dictate to the investigators when and how they’ll testify?
Since when? When the investigators (if they really are investigators) LET the criminals dictate the when and how.
The alternative is to place him in a holding cell until he testifies.
Senate proceedings are pretty useless. I’d be more concerned if he refused to testify to investigators and I’d be thrilled if he refused to testify at his trial.
Yeah! Let’s cite him for contempt of Congress and drag him before the investigating body in chains! Just like we did with Eric Holder.
Oh, wait…
Issue a subpoena.
Otherwise, all he’s doing is refusing an invitation.
Hello? AG Barr? IG Durham? Hello? Anyone home? RELEASE SOMETHING??? THAT WILL MAKE THEM ALL START TALKING!!!
Barr is all talk, as we’ve seen.
All talk.
Cynicism pretends to be intelligence.
And Intelligence pretends to be nonpartisan.
Luckily Trump isn’t.

If Barr and the Senate refuse to act, might as well do it himself. Now let’s see if they can focus on the SCOTUS nomination, the only thing left on their plate. Not holding my breath.
Barr has no authority or control over Senate investigations. The people who need to do something have “Senator” as the title to their name.
If the Durham Report was released, it would change EVERYTHING. We don’t need more testimony. We need subpoenas. The Senate will NEVER do anything. Graham is a windbag and poseur.
Well. He has quite the big brass ones, doesn’t he?
That this is merely a stalling tactic is obvious. Now what will the senate do about it?
Anything? Anything?
It’s a three-way tie between vile Comey, McCabe and Strzok, as far as awarding top prize for the most transparently greasy, corrupt, self-serving, mendacious, lawless, narcissistic and subversive former G-man.
McCabe is precious, though — this is a guy who was totally nonplussed about leaking FBI info to the press, and, then, calling up FBI agents in the NYC office, to berate them for allegedly being responsible for HIS leaks!!! What totally corrupt gall and arrogance.
McCabe’s unwillingness to testify via video reveals his insincerity, here. Just a posturing, professional bullshit artist and hustler.

Articulately said, and accurately, comprehensively articulated.
With USA Bash’s resignation, the consequences of the unmasking investigation will necessarily be delayed. Another month or two, and the whole coup attempt could be history. Why testify now?
“at any time in the future when it is safe to do so”
Another Democrat Profile in Putty.
I place the majority of the blame for this square in Lindsey Grahamnesty’s lap. He’s doddled on and on about this……constantly jumping on tv and swearing By Gawd he’s gonna get all over it. I do NOT trust that ass bandit.
Poor baby can’t take what the FBI has dished out for 4 years
The CDC hasn’t release it’s report on the ability of COVID-19 to travel thru the internet
The longer he waits just gives Ratcliffe more time to expose him
Not even remotely?
Even the internet is a superspreader these days.
Exactly.
“A fair and appropriate hearing of this kind — which is complex and contentious — simply cannot be conducted other than in person.”
Again and again, we see a Dem/Lefty claim without reasonable support; a conclusion without examinable premises — in other words, kids’ stuff.
Back it up, I say, or shut you face. We’re not interested in your irresponsible, reckless, no-cost-to-you games with other people’s reputation, security, and lives.
Grownups make their case responsibly and persuasively — to support or advance their own integrity, which is supposed to be their ultimate goal, and in respect of their listeners’ rights and expectations, which could be, but all too often these days, is just not the case.
McCabe’s legal maneuvering is understandable, per se, but unpersuasive morally. He wants the protection of his rights provided by the same constitution, statutes, rules, and policies that he evidently had no qualms about misusing when it came to the due-process protection of those he investigated, and referred or declined for prosecution, justly or not.
To call him a treacherous scoundrel labels his character-content too mildly.
Former FBI Acting Director McCabe is, therefore, just a 2-bit liar, crook, and parasite-con in a society that should and must indict his sorry, criminal ass, and convict him. He and his ilk need a solid lesson in civics and decency, beginning with the understanding that he and his associates work for us, and our safety, security, and betterment, and not vice versa.
I say, use force, if needed, to have him testify this month, and soon. Failing that, have the DOJ or DNI just happen to find more evidence, payable in potentially significant prison time, against him. This guy only respects hardball. Play it, or nothing.
And Sen Graham, are you happy with the present testimonial/evidentiary mess on your Committee’s plate? So far, you have a bark far more severe than your yet-to-be bite. This could be the beginning of your possibly long overdue end.
Must we all prepare to acknowledge an increasingly general rule, and a steadily diminishing exception thereto, that even the law is fungible?
This is just McCabe and his lawyer taking advantage of the custom of asking witnesses to appear instead of issuing a subpoena.
If this was about fear of catching the Chinese Virus he wouldn’t be also objecting to a video interview.
A subpoenas for this scumbag should be issued today.
Perhaps the fear for his safety is based, not on the WuFlu, but on demonstrated consequences suffered by those who dare to oppose the Clinton Machine… Arkancide is everywhere.
You nailed it, babe.
McCabe is the ultimate rodent.
And so, his nemesis-poison? The narrowest-possible-use rodenticide k/a “[Arkansascide; pronounced: ar-KANSAS-cide].”
(I think I FIFY, amateurwrangler; however, your credit entirely.)
As if he didn’t already have a reputation lower than whale dung, he then went to work for CNN.
Contempt of “fill in the blank with appropriate agency”.. something. Many things.
If he does not want to testify put his little butt in a cell for protection. Maybe an isolation tent in a hospital.
He should be held in contempt of the Senate. This is ridiculous, but he’ll do it as long as he can get away with it. There have to start being consequences, and the Republican majority in the Senate should start imposing them.
