Sanders Staying in Race Strikes Fear Into Democrats
Former California Senator Barbara Boxer says Sanders “looks very selfish”
2020 Democratic presidential hopeful Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) will not drop out of the race despite the massive lead former Vice President Joe Biden has over him.
The Democrats fear they will relive 2016 if Sanders stays in the presidential race.
Sanders told his supporters and delegates to support failed Democrat presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, but they booed him. The nation saw his supporters cause ruckus after ruckus during the Democratic convention:
To some Democrats in that campaign, it was a lesson learned the hard way about the limitations of Sanders’s promises of support and the ferocity of his unbridled backers. Four years later, with the senator from Vermont still running against former vice president Joe Biden despite almost impossible odds of victory, some party leaders are increasingly worried about a reprise of the bitter divisions that many Democrats blame for Hillary Clinton’s loss.
“It’s the equivalent of a World War II kamikaze pilot,” said Philippe Reines, a longtime adviser to Clinton. “They have no better option than to plow into USS Biden.”
Sanders wants to debate Biden in April. Due to the coronavirus, his campaign has done everything they can to expand his online presence. He has also used the pandemic to push his Medicare for All plan.
A source told The Washington Post that if Biden made “significant policy and personal overtures to” him then Sanders might leave the race.
Sanders promised to fight for the Democratic nominee over President Donald Trump.
But does his support mean anything if his supporters defect?
Former California Senator Barbara Boxer said that Sanders “looks very selfish” for staying in the race. If he truly means that he will help the Democrats beat Trump “then get out.”
The Democratic Party believes the longer Sanders stays in the race the harder it will be for them to convince his supporters to support Biden.
However, some 2016 veterans believe that the Democrats will not see a repeat due to the relationship between Sanders and Biden. It is no secret the hatred between Hillary and Sanders. Hillary still complains and attacks Sanders:
Biden, for his part, has sought to strike a welcoming posture toward his former Senate colleague. Both teams remain in touch on the coronavirus crisis and its effect on the economy, according to one Biden adviser.
It is their personal dynamic — they are two men of similar ages who both served in Congress and who associates said genuinely hold each other in high regard — that gives some Democrats hope for averting the ugliness of 2016.
“I sense that there is a personal respect that he has for Joe Biden that he did not extend to Hillary in 2016, so I assume that that will extend some guard rails,” said Brian Fallon, who worked as press secretary for Clinton’s campaign. The bigger challenge, Fallon said, will be reining in Sanders supporters while their candidate extends his presence in the race.
Polls have shown that Sanders’s supporters do not have enthusiasm for Biden. A brand new ABC News/Washington Post poll found that 15% of Sanders’s supporters would vote for Trump over Biden.
If Biden continues to make concessions to the far-left he might lose the support of the moderates. As the Democrats give in to demands by Sanders’s supporters the moderates might eventually break away.
We might see a bloodier Democratic convention in July.

If Sanders leaves before the convention, then the door is open for the dnc to replace Biden with anyone they want. However, if Sanders stays in, it will be harder for the dnc to justify replacing Biden with anyone but Sanders.
Biden has dementia of some sort. He can’t get through a scripted set up, where he has the questions and answers in front of him without sliding into a blithering idiot mode.
His town hall, which Biden lies about, didn’t even break 1000 viewers.
Some places are kind and claim he has a gaffe a month, he has a gaffe every single time he is out there.
Anyone who has had a family member with dementia can see the signs in Biden. How do you build enthusiasm for someone you know may bot make it through November? He won’t finish a single term at the rate he is deteriorating.
Bernie is biding his time, with all the primaries postponed, likely canceled, and Biden slipping away mentally, his supporters could push hard for him over Biden. I doubt the DNC would go for it, but this is Bernie’s last grasp, with the hope that ARE that stupid that they would vote for him.
Plus, Bernie is not a Democratic Socialist. He only plays one to run for President, then goes back to his “independent” status.
They need to get ready to replace Biden but they need Bernie out first. If he’s still there and they call in for a different Lefty from the bullpen, it will truly be a bloodbath. If Bernie has already hung up his hat and glove, it will be easier to bring in Cuomo or Oprah or whoever. Did somebody say Hilldabeast?

The dnc will not allow biden to debate PDJT, so even if he is the nominee his viability as a candidate is practically zero. bernie is holding out for a better deal. He already got the dacha for throwing in the towel the first time. My guess is he is going to ask for business jet with unlimited miles to bow out a second time.

Bernie’s staying in for one reason only. He thinks there’s a good chance Biden is going to be replaced by an actual sentient being. He’ll be standing there, with his arms folded, when they try to steal it from him again……He will not be going away.
First of all, Sanders isn’t actually a democrat. Second of all, he isn’t going to play ball with the DNC the way the DNC wants if he wins. So if Sanders gets the nomination, the DNC has lost the election even if the Dems were to win. Besides, if Biden is declared incompetent before the official nomination, then who’s left but Sanders? He has no reason to drop out.
I do not know election law, and am asking some serious questions.
If Biden drops out/is forced out before the Demo Convention (if they don’t cancel the Demo convention due to the panic over the Wuhan virus) and if Bernie has not dropped out, how much harder will Bernie’s still being a candidate make it for the DNC to select a Hillary or another establishment Demo to be the Demo candidate?
If Biden survives to the Convention and is anointed the Demo candidate, and he then drops out because his dementia becomes too obvious, what happens then? Does the DNC get to select a new candidate? Does the VP candidate become the presidential candidate? Is there a second Demo convention to select a new candidate?
Has this come up before? Any poly-sci majors know the answers?
All these have been answered before, here I believe.
If Biden drops dead or drops out before the convention, the Democrat Party is a private organization- they can nominate whoever they want. If Bernie doesn’t already have a majority of the delegates, it isn’t going to be him. It will be wheeling and dealing amongst the party heavies.
If he drops – or is forced- out after the convention, the DNC selects the new candidate. They have a deadline- before the state deadlines for finalizing the ballots. If they do it after the deadline, and the courts to force states to do the change, they run into another problem. If voting by mail has already started- those votes HAVE TO BE COUNTED FOR BIDEN!. They’ll be screwed. There’s no way any court can allow then to be counted for someone else. The perils of early voting.
The other big questions is- what happens if for some ungodly reason he actually wins in November, and drops dead after the electoral college meets before the votes are counted…. Dead men aren’t eligible to become POTUS. The election gets thrown to the House. If he drops dead before the electoral college meets then the DNC is going to have to persuade a majority of electors to vote for the same person. If they don’t- the election gets thrown to the House.
At this point, I’m sure there are lots of Bernie supporters (and probably Bernie, himself) who would like DEMentia Joe to succumb to Corona.
This may be striking fear in Democrats, but it’s striking unbridled joy in Republicans. Bernie’s in the drivers seat. He can make any deal he wants with the DNC to drop out. Aim high, Bernie. Aim high.

The obvious reason for Bernie remaining in the race is the increasing evidence that Biden lacks the mental capacity to defeat Trump or handle the job of president. Biden lacks a functioning brain as he has dementia. When the party realizes this Biden will be forced to withdraw and Sanders is his likely replacement.

I think he is staying in the race because he can see Joe’s decline as well as anyone and he is hoping Joe will be forced to back out while he is still the only declared candidate. That way he can try to force the DNC to nominate him.
