Politico goes on safari to Trump rally, finds joy and celebration
This time, unlike in 2016, the media is determined to observe those strange people living outside the media bubbles.
We’ve all seen how the mainstream media lives in NY and DC bubbles. Regardless of where they came from, they often embody the shock at how people outside the coastal and liberal bubbles live.
They *literally* didn’t know anyone who voted for Trump, so they were shocked that 60 million people did so. On campuses, which are feeding grounds for journo bubbles, there were crying circles on election night 2016.
Media outlets like Politico are determined not to ignore the deplorables in 2020, so they are going on safaris to observe those strange Trump-supporting beings.
I’ve seen this phenomenon before. In April 2009, I wrote about how media covered the Tea Party movement in rural upstate NY, Looking At Tea Parties Through Binoculars, Like On Safari:
I attended the Tea Party in Corning, NY, yesterday. There was a good crowd in this relatively small town in western upstate NY (several hours from NY City), several hundred in total. Corning is home to Corning glass and Steuben glass. The entire region has been hit hard by the exodus of jobs to less tax intensive parts of the U.S. and abroad.
I don’t remember which speaker said it, but one of them described how politicians from New York City come up to the region so that they can say they have visited the countryside, and stare at the inhabitants as if through binoculars, like on safari.
And that description was a metaphor for what is motivating the Tea Parties and fueling the outrage…. But you wouldn’t know that if all you have are binoculars, and you are on permanent safari.

Back to Politico. It ran an article recently about The unexpected joy at a Trump rally in Iowa:
I had not been to a Trump rally since the 2016 campaign. And the first thing I noticed Thursday night when Donald Trump and Mike Pence spoke at Drake University in Des Moines was how much more joyous the event was for his supporters than what I remember from four years ago….
But with Trump in power, presiding over peace and prosperity, on the cusp of beating two articles of impeachment, and dominating the news when it should be the Democratic candidates’ moment to shine, his fans seemed in a celebratory mood….
A group of female college students from Iowa State took selfies and danced. When Trump mentioned his reelection, a bidding war erupted: “Four more years!”, “Twelve more years!”, “Thirty more years of Trump!” …
Why was everyone so happy?
If you have to ask, you’ll never understand Tea Party events were just as joyous, though portrayed in the media as a national security threat. You had to be there.
If you find the joy “unexpected,” you are part of the problem.
Olivia Nuzzi of New York Magazine promoted the Politico article on Twitter with this comment:

I thought it was an impressive observation from a New York Magazine journo, until I saw her follow up (which either has been deleted or I can’t seem to find now) that she meant
Trump supporters felt safe in an environment where their views were not challenged.
The responses from anti-Trumpers were pretty much what you’d expect. They didn’t like what Politico saw on safari. And neither, really, did the journos who went on safari.

On a serious note, Trump agrees with us, that the U.S.A. is a good fine place. Our pride in our home isn’t derided, scorned or described as evil or deplorable.
In other words, it’s like being in civilization again. All the crazy, nagging Alinksyites, who wish to destroy us by coming up with new insults and new complaints and new rules – EVERY single day — aren’t around to destroy our normalcy.

This is the problem, the different worlds.
The left is correct about unconsious bias, but it is their blue bubble. Even Fox News (Reliable Sources).
Consider the kerfuffle when someone turned the scene from “Kingsmen” where the protagonist kills dozens of people by placing media logos (e.g. CNN, like the WWE meme earlier) over those being horrifically killed. Those killed were under mind control, but there is one thing peculiar about the scene.
The media was horrified. But undo the meme. Who was being slaughtered. White rural evangelical baptists. Deplorables. Stinky wal-mart-garbage people missing teeth.
Imagine if the scene were not in a rural baptist church but instead in a lefty church conducting a “gay marriage”. Or Ebenezer Baptist church with African American Martin Luther King types. Or even a Mosque. Or some motivational speaker in a hotel conference room.
Or if it was a Synagogue, and the Kingsman – had to because they were mind controlled – kill every member of a synagogue including the Rabbi.
The people here would go ballistic, condemn it in the most stringent and strong terms, labeling it as anti-Semitic hate speech worthy of Gobbels.
Yet because it was rural white baptist untermenchen deplorable garbage people, NO ONE CARED. Not even here. Wow! What a scene! Exciting! Action!. But it wasn’t a Holocaust, or Black people, or Gays, or something, so it is fully acceptable, on ALL sides, both left and right.
I bring the Jewish example up mainly because Trump is the most rabid pro-Zionist I know since Rabbi Meyer Kahane. Jerusalem. Golan Heights. The current peace plan. Yet, Schiff, Nadler… which is confusing since they aren’t like Jews for Peace or one of the lefty anti-Israel groups. Where IS AIPAC? Why does Trump and his band of Deplorables have to fight them?
As I noted at the start, the Left and the SJWs are absoultely right about unconscious bias – but Trump’s supporters are the victims as much or more than their certified victims. And they have noticed. But can’t raise a voice. But they can support Trump. And are likely to support worse.
Like the Kingsmen movie contempt, no one outside, even if they aren’t in the blue bubble, notices that traditional Christian white men have been under attack and they and their spouses met it stoically for a while. But no more.
The danger here is if the attacks continue, the response might become “scorched earth”, not distinguishing too finely about who was their enemy. Especially when the enemy seems irrational. Like mindless zombies.
Perhaps the zombie apocalypse has arrived, but instead of rotting corpses, it is merely college graduates that are brain dead bundles of hungry emotion devoid of reason.

I tried reading the Politico article earlier today but was stumped by the writer’s assertion that, “Trump and his supporters are instinctually in favor of giving him more authority and less accountability.” Perhaps a little presumptuous aren’t we, Ryan?
This was immediately followed by, “Impeachment has rallied the GOP to defend executive branch obstruction of Congress…” wherein he posits Article II of the Democrat’s Articles of Impeachment as proven.
I just couldn’t take any more of his twaddle.

The difference between liberals and conservatives, at least here in the SF Bay Area, is that we live in THEIR world, they don’t live in ours. They have little idea what we really think or believe but we are surrounded by leftests – we hear their views in media, at work and in casual conversation. We know so much more about them than they know about us.

2016 was a shock. The lying msm ASSURED, GUARANTEED not only a hillary win, but predicted a 57 state hrc blow-out. The left was in too much of a daze to do anything except roll playdoh, fill out coloring books, scream at the sky and wear pink p-hats. In their heart of hearts they know PDJT is going to crush their candidate in 2020. There will not be a safe space safe enough to quell the rage that’s coming. I’ve stocked up. I’m not planning to go to any big blue cities after November, but if I have to, I’m going to be prepared. And if the big blue masses come my way, they better do so peacefully. I’m not hoping for ANY violence, but I’m planning for the worst and hoping for the best.
I suspect the crazies will get crazier, but the less than crazy will be resigned, even though left of center.
It would be helpful if the violent ones were sentenced to some jail time, instead of being regularly uncharged or acquitted, but such is not to be.

I do not think it is ignorance on their part. The left never stops pushing their lies. It should have been “Trump supporters felt safe in an environment where they are not physically attacked.” It is the snowflakes of the left who need safe spaces where “…their views were not challenged.”

We hear this all the time, and it never sticks. Such talk was particularly rampant after the 2016 election because everyone was so horribly, horribly wrong. Even the gem-star Nate Silver only finally nailed it in his poll the weekend before the election – when it was too late to even be of any tactical use to anyone. So all the columnists, pundits, pollsters, and scribblers promised to find out how’d they’d missed it so grandly, and to do better.
