Prof Seeks Ideas on How to Advance Social Justice in Math Textbooks
“advance #socialjustice”
If John has ten dollars, and I take eight of his dollars and give them to Jane, how much less oppressed is Jane?
The College Fix reports:
Math professor soliciting ideas for ‘#socialjustice’ textbook content
A math professor recently involved in a political controversy in academic mathematics has issued a call for “ideas” on how to “advance #socialjustice” in a mathematics textbook series.
Chad Topaz was one of the professors at the center of the uproar against Abigail Thompson, a math professor at the University of California, Davis, who recently wrote in opposition to required “diversity statements” in academia. Thompson derided the practice of diversity statements, referring to them as “using a political test as a screen for job applicants.”
Topaz, a mathematics professor at Williams College, played a prominent role in marshaling opposition to Thompson, telling activists to bombard UC Davis with “public shame,” announcing that he would urge his graduate students and undergrads to avoid applying to the institution, and offering a letter template for activists to mail into the American Mathematical Society, where Thompson is a vice president and in whose journal the essay appeared.
On Monday of this week, Topaz was further engaged in social justice activism, telling his followers on Twitter that he was potentially in line to receive an offer “to join the editorial board of a particular math book series,” that he would only do so as a means to “advance #socialjustice,” and that he was interested in fielding suggestions to that effect.
I MIGHT be offered to join the editorial board of a particular math book series. If so, I’d accept only in order to advance #socialjustice. What are your best ideas for how? Free texts? Social justice content? Required “inclusive teaching” component of book proposal? Go nuts…

This is parody right?
You copied this from Babylon Bee?
You can not parody Leftists.
They’re too far out on the limb of their own insanity.
Do we need any better example of why all government funding (from all levels of government) need to be cut 100%?
Ask questions that offer insight into social justice. Example: how many transgender women does it take to win the first 3 spots in a women’s foot race? Or, how about why does BLM protest police protection and let abortion claim the lives of 75% of black babies? How come, citing specific examples, nobody knows the name of any of the 786,000 black people killed and injured in Chicago but we know the name of Travon Martin and Micheal Brown? Really show the reality of the social warrior agenda. Hope this helps!
If zero of this vacuum-filled-cranium professor’s SJW students can solve any mathematic problems to produce the correct, objective, mathematic answer, how many will pass his course?
All of them, naturally! Any other answer or conclusion would be insensitive and racist.
Any more questions?
Might be nice to build some word problems around 13 do 50.
“Go nuts…”
Too late. That horse has already left the barn.
From what I’ve seen of math professors at these SLAC’s, even Williams, they don’t do much math research. Not sure how good their students would be anyway.
For his question, I’d issue multiple versions of his book. One can have Fred and Susan in the word problems. Another can have Tyrone and Lakeesha. Yet another, Juan and Juanita. Costs the same to print them, and students can buy the one they prefer.
Let Prof. Topaz start by explaining whether and how, in grading a course on differential equations or linear algebra, he adjusts exam scores and grades to reflect social justice requirements.
You know would really help with “social justice”?
If kids actually learned math, so they can get a decent job and learn to control their finances!!
So not only is this ridiculous but he’s openly fishing for ideas on twitter to advance his own career because he doesn’t have anything???
That’s intellectual theft in some realms.
If there are twenty social justice warriors and 30% get some sense, how many are left?
Answer: It depends on whether the answer identifies as a percentage, you decimalist!
Math is already woke. It teaches differentiation as well as integration.
