Report: Anti-impeachment Dem Rep. Jeff Van Drew to Switch Parties
Elected in 2018, Van Drew has been a vocal opponent of the Democrat impeachment circus
Rep. Jeff Van Drew (D-NJ) is reportedly considering switching to the Republican Party because of the way his party has handled the impeachment witch hunt.
Van Drew was elected in 2018 in a district that Trump carried, and he was one of two Democrats to vote with Republicans against the Democrats’ House impeachment rules.
His win in 2018 was a big deal for Democrats who were working to flip—and succeeded in flipping—the House.

Van Drew has been a vocal opponent of impeachment, and his stance caught President Trump’s attention. The two reportedly met on Friday, and Van Drew is now expected to announce his party switch in the coming days.
Rep. Jeff Van Drew, a moderate Democrat who is strongly opposed to impeaching President Donald Trump, is expected to switch parties and become a Republican, according to multiple sources familiar with the situation.
. . . .Van Drew’s congressional and campaign staff were informed he was planning to switch parties on Saturday, according to Democratic sources. The question was now when, not if, Van Drew was joining the Republican Party, according to several Democrats with knowledge of the ongoing conversations.
As of Saturday afternoon, it was still unclear if Van Drew would make the announcement before the House votes on impeachment, which is expected Wednesday.
“It was supposed to be bipartisan, it was supposed to be incontrovertible. It was supposed to be something that was always on the rarest of circumstances,” Van Drew told reporters about impeachment earlier this week. “Well it’s not bipartisan.”
. . . . Van Drew flipped his GOP district in southern New Jersey, helping deliver Democrats the House majority. The district, which still leans Republican, voted for Trump in 2016.
The impeachment vote is scheduled for Wednesday.

It’s probably too much to hope that other centrist or Blue Dog Democrats, particularly those in districts Trump won, will follow suit. But isn’t it pretty to think so?

It’s a mixed reaction to this. You tend to not trust politicians that switch parties over self interest. On the other hand, this will look horrible for the Democrats going into the impeachment vote next week. It will most likely have a psychological effect on fence sitting moderates that aren’t excited about the direction of their party.
Dems have been converting lots of their members into independents or Republicans since the dawn of Trump. They went ape sh!t crazy, they just cannot help themselves.

You know what boggles my mind, Leg? We threaten “if you vote for impeachment, you’ve lost my vote” … REALLY? After the s**t s**w Dems have put on since 2016 would any conservative vote for a Dem regardless if they voted against impeachment? The r*t ba****ds need to be removed regardless.
While I understand putting the 31 on notice, in my book, they are gone regardless – because that I am aware, NONE have stood up against it. None have acknowledged Trump’s accomplishments – none have called out Antifa, BLM, or any of the hor****it going on. None have called out AOC and the squalid. I just can’t imagine a scenario where we say “we’re good” if they vote against impeachment. Accordingly, the “we’ll vote against you” threat is dumb. In this house, we’ll be voting against them regardless. If they’re smart enough to realize that, they may as well vote to impeach and take their chances.
Oh, and I really REALLY hate this political game they’re playing. But if they make us play it, you can be darn sure I’ll be playing for keeps.
Van Drew is a lifelong democrat. He worked his way up the democrat ladder since 2002. And like a bolt from the blue he’s only now disturbed by what the democrats are up to.
When it came time to vote for Speaker? He could’ve taken a stand and voted for anyone not named Pelosi. But he didn’t. He voted Present. He’s a self-serving turncoat.

Van Drew was only bothered about impeachment after the spectacular failure(s)of Mueller, Schiff and the far left media.
I don’t think anyone trusts him, but any vote in our direction is a good sign. He likely realizes that any R candidate might be a threat in 2020, so he is thinking it would be best to be THAT R candidate. He might be the start of others switching parties, or at least for self-survival, not jumping on the impeachment bandwagon. Who knows, might be a lot of people out of town on Wednesday. If 40 people happen to decide to not vote, that could swing things pretty quickly. I bet a lot of the current Dems would be OK with neither Pelosi nor the eventual Dem candidate showing up at their rally.
So what you’re saying is we should be happy that a bunch of self-serving leftists may join the republican party – and they’ll be reliable votes for conservative causes? And they’ll not form a liberal splinter faction within our ranks?. An “out” 5th column? Such a thing will never happen.

Since no one here is from my area I will enlighten you all on this subject. This man has represented us very well over the years. Using common sence and logic is what we should all be doing in life. Instead many persons see r and d behind someones name and use that instead. Many life-lone TRUE conservatives here will say the same. They have worked better with Dr. Van Drew then with other “republicans”. I mean no offense to anyone and generally do not comment on these thing. I was a registered “r” for 25 years until they fucked over a wonderful man. We have been more Constitutionalist then anything. We have been a small county for centuries until the assholes from n.y, philly and so on have contaminated us with big money and bigger mouths. Fuck them, too!! I seriously doubt slutkin of Michigan will change parties. She was just on the news the other day (saw it at the gym as I dropped cable tv many years ago) saying she’s going to take the weekend and ponder on what she’s “learned”.
She’s lying, typical of most of the lying freshman dems who promised to be middle of the road to the ignorant sheeple. She’ll vote to impeach saying some crap like “the facts say he blah, blah, blahed”. She won’t say clinton should be standing trial for all her crimes which comey brushed off as she didn’t mean anything bad. Nor will she take on putting quid pro Joe on trial over the video of him demanding Ukraine fire the prosecutor.

As someone who worked her entire career in national security, I do not believe that anyone, Republican or Democrat, should invite the participation of foreign leaders in U.S. elections. That is why I made the decision in late September, along with a group of six other national security Freshman Democrats, to publish an op-ed in the Washington Post which stated that the allegations included in the whistleblower complaint, if proven to be true, represent an impeachable offense. I wrote an op-ed for the Detroit Free Press, published on the same day, that outlined my thinking.
As you may know, I had long been reticent to call for an impeachment inquiry, even as many of my colleagues in the U.S. House of Representatives began to do so. I believe that an impeachment inquiry is a huge step for our country that should only be used when absolutely necessary. However, at the most basic level, it is clear that the President of the United States, the most powerful man in the world, reached out to a foreign leader and solicited damaging information on a political rival. As someone who has served her entire life working on behalf of our national security, I felt that this action was simply beyond the pale – and is a precedent that we cannot set. After all, today it could be a Republican President asking a Ukrainian for information on a political rival, but tomorrow it could be a Democrat asking the Chinese, the Russians, or the Iranians for help. That is not how our system is meant to work.
Hopefully the state repubs find someone much better to run than the last rino loser who was a Chamber toady.

I hope that those who voted for impeachment discover that their vote is the political equivalent of being weighed down with cement and dropped into a deep body of water.
I love you guys, but come on! The entire point of #WalkAway is to encourage Democrats to become more informed, more free-thinking. If their reward for taking a courageous step in walking away is our derision and spite and resentment, what is their impetus? Leave a party they loathe because it doesn’t represent their view of America or of our Constitution . . . only to be spit on and loathed by their new party?
I, personally, welcome any and all dems who leave that socialist snakepit for saner ground. And I think it’s a mistake to be snotty and mean-spirited about it. Oh, they didn’t leave soon enough, they are too stupid to get it forty years ago, they are ridiculous and stupid and pretty much beneath us . . . sound familiar? Yes, we do need to be wary of the same crazy syndrome that has leftists leaving the hell they created for Republican states and imposing the same failed policies on their newly adopted states. BUT let’s give the benefit of the doubt, and be a bit more welcoming. It’s hard to leave your life-long party, and being spit on, denigrated, and rejected by your new chosen party’s base is . . . just stupid. On our part. So stop it.
I agree, as I said in an earlier post, someone changing political parties takes time. It happens when the person finally realizes that they cannot stomach what the party has become. Quite often it is a generational thing, in that someone is raised by their parents to adopt a party, only to find that they eventually disagree with that party on most issues.
Fuzzy, most here have no problem with Democrat voters walking away.
We have problems with accepting politicians who change parties out of self-preservation.
IMHO, Drew would be much more help as a Democrat trying to convince his fellow Democrats rather than a turncoat they can ignore.
