Rep. Will Hurd is Considering Running for President in 2024
Seems impossible to have any discussion about 2024 when the current state of political affairs is essentially a raging dumpster fire outside of a clown show opening act for a three ring circus.
Last we heard from Rep. Will Hurd (R-TX), he announced he was not seeking re-election in 2020.
As we discussed after his announcement in early August:
Hurd eeked by in the 2018 election, winning by less than half a point and represents a district that is trending Democrat. It’s likely that the grandstanding and posturing is legit… it’s just as likely he’s reading the writing on the wall and bowing out instead of facing an electoral loss.
Prior to the election, Hurd worked for the CIA. Now, he’s toying with running for president. From the Texas Tribune:
U.S. Rep. Will Hurd said Thursday he is considering a run for president in 2024.
The third-term Republican congressman from Helotes is leaving the House at the end of this term, and his retirement announcement sent shockwaves throughout national politics.
In an interview Thursday with The Texas Tribune CEO Evan Smith, Hurd addressed a slew of issues, including background checks and redistricting.
“If they’re still not being addressed in a macro way, if I’m still the only person that’s still talking about these things, if I’m put in a position in order to evaluate that, then I will do what I have always done when I’ve had the opportunity to serve my country,” he said when asked if he’s considering a run for the presidency. “I will think about it.”

Hurd also discussed the state of politics back home.
Despite his retirement, Hurd insisted he would have won a fourth term in a rematch against Democratic candidate Gina Ortiz Jones.
“I would have won,” he said. “This would have been a four-peat.”

He’s too low energy.
I live in the adjacent district, EL Paso. Hurd is about as conservative as could be elected in his district. He is a smart and accomplished person more suited to a policy advisor. If he wasn’t an open borders guy his background would make him a decent pick as director of Homeland security. Presidential candidate is several bridges too far, he is not a viable candidate.
Will Hurd conservative??? Come ON. Will Hurd is one of Beto’s best friends, campaigned with Beto, and went on “Driving Tour” with Beto to to try to bolster Beto’s credibility.
Will Hurd is a big turd. I am overjoyed he is “retiring” (truth – he had no chance of being re-elected, a real Liberal will always beat a fake rino liberal) and he needs to fade out of public life forever.

Hurd wants electronic countermeasures instead of a wall, I think we need both. Especially desirable are killer drones delivering instant accountability.
His waiting for 2024 is an apparent admission that he would not have a prayer in hell of winning against Trump.
Those of you who live in Texas near or in Rep. Will Hurd’s district, is there a Republican in politics in the district who can win the seat in 2020? If Hurd won by just a hair in 2018, then I gather the district could easily go Democratic if a weak R candidate is run for the seat.
We Republicans need to win back the U.S. House in 2020 – and hang onto the White House and the U.S. Senate!
IMO, not really. Susan Collins is a R, nominally at least. She couldn’t be elected, the district make up is too liberal. We have to accept the most conservative candidate capable of being elected, sometimes that means very much, sometimes it means not so much. We have to be willing to take what we can get. Hurd is about as conservative as could be elected in that district. Wishing that away doesn’t change the facts. After all, Massachusetts ain’t Mississippi. We have to run and support the most conservative candidates who can win. That doesn’t mean that we should accept candidates who are less conservative in a red state or district. Cough.. John Cornyn.

Hurd is suffering from the Arlen Specter Effect: in moving sharply to the Left while in office he alienated his base of independent and conservative voters without attracting Democrat voters to offset the losses. It’s a strategy that (as they say) is unblemished by success and has caused the Republican Party to dwindle in size and influence, yet Hurd and his GOPe pals are convinced it is a slam-dunk winner.
“Hmmm, lobbyists and lots of House staff told me I was doing a great job, I should run for President so everyone else will benefit from my wiseness and Bi-partitudinousness, too. Those lucky people will surely line up to donate to my campaign.”
Attention Swamp Rats, the line forms on the left, please, please try to maintain an orderly line, we have a long way to go until 2024. Thank you.
He is my Rep in Texas and he is a freekin RINO. He fooled a lot of us in Texas. I won’t get fooled again !
