NC: Man Whose Defense of the Second Amendment Went Viral Announces Run for Lt. Governor
Mark Robinson’s campaign slogan: “Patriots, not Politicians”
Back in April, 2018, I wrote a post about a North Carolina resident who lit up the internet with his passionate defense of the Second Amendment at a Greensboro city council meeting. Mark Robinson gave an amazing, impromptu speech in response to the city’s push to cancel a gun show.
He didn’t intend to speak, but he was so inflamed by the anti-gun leftist rhetoric that he felt compelled to step forward. The result was mesmerizing in its comprehensive response to every leftist argument for “gun control.”

A reader wrote in to let us know that Robinson (R) is running for Lieutenant Governor of North Carolina, and I thought it news well worth sharing with our readers.
The Richmond Observer reports:
Tuesday, Mark Robinson, a native of Greensboro, announced his candidacy for the office of Lt. Governor of North Carolina, in a bid to become the first black lieutenant governor in the state’s history.
Robinson is best known for his viral speech at the Greensboro City Council where he spoke out against a council that was attempting to stop a gun show. (See video at bottom of the post.)
He announced his candidacy in front of the City Hall building in Greensboro where he gave that viral speech, and was joined by his wife, two kids, and over 80 supporters.
In his announcement speech, he told his life story: How he grew up in Greensboro surrounded by poverty as the ninth of 10 children with an abusive alcoholic father. He talked about spending time in foster care before returning to live with his parents, and how his mother — a woman of faith — encouraged him to pursue his dreams.
Robinson’s campaign website includes his campaign slogan: “Patriots, not Politicians,” and that is definitely the theme of his announcement.

A man I could support. He will be receiving some campaign contributions from me in the near future.
I appreciate stories bringing those who support the Constitution to my attention. I have made a donation to his campaign . It has passed the time when a sitting back and offering a golf clap to these patriots is sufficient. Dollars, even if seemingly a nominal amount-early and often if possible-are necessary to show wide support for these men and women taking courageous stands.
He’s running as a Republican.
Everybody seems to be keeping that fact rather low-profile. Seems odd.

Okay, I added an “(R)” to indicate he’s running as a Republican. Since he’s never held office, that’s a bit weird, but it seemed the best way to indicate it.
By the way, nothing nefarious here at all. I just assumed that a patriot protecting the Second Amendment and standing for the Constitution would be understood to be a Republican. Actually, I so figured that, it didn’t even occur to me that anyone would think him a Democrat. Democrats these days, even the mods, don’t exactly exude pro-American sentiment. /just saying
It’s an understandable oversight. A long time ago, I made it a point to always (always) reference political affiliation – even for those in the stratosphere of politics.
I think Trump is the only one I haven’t applied that rule to consistently because he seemingly breaks all the rules.

Nope, that’s sadly not a foregone conclusion any more because the inverse is not true.
Actually, his case is not necessarily helped by declaring that he is a Republican. In fact, he described himself as representing the majority of Americans. And gun ownership among voters is not partisan.
It’s also not racial. Doesn’t it help his case that he is a black man referencing the Crips and the Bloods as the bad guys? It’s a constitutional issue and as Americans, it is OUR issue.
I actually think it is much better that he keep his distance from partisanship on this issue. We don’t want to let all the Republican gun grabbers, and they are legion, off the hook either. Most Republican politicians are at least as bad as the Democrats. They just follow the kabuki script and still get to skate away scott-free.
That was one hell of an awesome speech. The tone and choice of words were perfect.
Seems you missed out on the most important part of his speech – that is not focussing on keeping folks divided (Republican vs Democrat v Independent). It’s about the rights being stripped from the majority because of the “needs” of a minority. This is not about who is correct, it is about what is correct.

Tom pointed out sharply.
He’s worried, we all are, about nefarious dealings. I don’t take offense and see his point. That said, we can’t see enemies under every woodpile, so I wanted to share my thought process. Who could listen to Robinson and think him a member of today’s Democrat Party? But I was wrong not to specify that he is running as a Republican. It was a perfectly innocent omission and will hopefully be accepted as such.

His party affiliation does seem easy to find on his websites. But with people like Paul Ryan calling them a Republican who can blame him!
The party of Lincoln passed the 14th amendment so that the Freedmen could exercise their 2nd amendment rights.
That is truer than most people would think. One of the most fundamental rights that the Democrat South denied the freed slaves was the right to bear arms. And they sure could have used them. In fact, the KKK were probably the first organized gun grabbers in America.
