FOX News Hires Former DNC Chair Donna Brazile as Contributor Angering Some on Both Sides
“She acknowledged that she might catch heat from members of her party for the move”
Former Democratic National Committee chairwoman Donna Brazile has made regular appearances on FOX News over the years, but expect to see more of her in the future. As an official contributor, FOX will pay her to offer opinion and analysis.
Caitlin Oprysko reports at Politico:
Former DNC chair Donna Brazile to join Fox News
Former interim DNC Chairwoman Donna Brazile is joining Fox News as a commentator, the network said on Monday.
The longtime Democratic operative will offer commentary on both Fox News and Fox Business, and her move comes as some in the Democratic Party have accused the channel of functioning as state-run television for President Donald Trump, especially after an article in the New Yorker outlined how intertwined the network is with Trump’s White House.
Brazile in a statement said she was “delighted” to join the network and said she was eager to represent Democrats for Fox News viewers, who she argued don’t “hear enough from Democrats.”
She acknowledged that she might catch heat from members of her party for the move, saying that “my response is that, if we’ve learned anything from the 2016 election, it is that we can’t have a country where we don’t talk to those who disagree with our political views.”
The Daily Mail notes that Brazile lost her last gig at CNN when she leaked questions to the Hillary Clinton campaign ahead of a 2016 presidential town hall:
Fox News hires Donna Brazile as contributor two years after former Democratic Party official was fired by CNN for feeding Hillary Clinton questions during a 2016 town hall
Former Democratic National Committee chief Donna Brazile, who was fired by CNN for tipping off the Hillary Clinton campaign about debate topics in 2016, has joined Fox News Channel as a political commentator.
Brazile said Monday she knows fellow liberals will criticize her for joining Fox, but that it’s important for people not to retreat to ‘safe spaces’ where they just talk to people who agree with them.
‘There’s an audience on Fox News that doesn’t hear enough from Democrats,’ Brazile said in a statement.
Her conduct at CNN was revealed as part of emails exposed by Wikileaks.
She had contacted the Clinton campaign about topics that would be covered in a March 2016 town hall when the competition was Bernie Sanders.
Brazile initially denied the accusation, but admitted to it after the election.
She wrote in March 2017 that sending emails to the Clinton campaign was ‘a mistake I will forever regret.’
At Fox, Brazile will not have anything to do with campaign debates or town halls, said a Fox employee with knowledge of the arrangement who spoke on condition of anonymity because the person was not authorized to speak about contract details.
Brazile discussed her new role at FOX News with Dana Perino yesterday:
This decision has caused anger on the left and the right. Some liberals are angry at Brazile for what they see as her selling out to FOX News. Some conservatives are angry at FOX News for hiring Brazile just days after suspending Judge Jeanine Pirro over criticism of Ilhan Omar.
Donna Brazil, I will never watch you again. You have sold your soul to Trump TV

@FoxNews So Donna Brazile is fired from CNN after tipping off Hillary Clinton to debate questions and is rewarded by being HIRED. And Jeanine Pirro is SUSPENDED from Fox News for speaking the truth? Fox News, I think you may have just sealed your doom.#IStandWithJudgeJeanine

I quit watching (and paying for) Fox News over six years ago; I changed my satellite program to one without Fox. If I wanted to hear Bob Beckel Susan Estrich’s views on current events – or hear pundits bash Sarah Palin, I would watch MSNBC or CNN. Fox’s hiring Brazile just confirms that I was right to dump them.
If we are lucky Fox will die and there will only be complete lefty news outlets left, right?
I don’t need Fox and, apparently, the feeling is mutual. These days I get my news from sites like L.I.
I was being sarcastic because it’s not just about you or me. If all other broadcast news outlets beside Fox are increasingly Dem operations (meaning politically so not just editorially) and search engines and social media are increasingly filtering more conservative voices, opinions, videos, etc., where does that leave our voices? Sure, you and I will make choices. What about the other 320 million who have a 99% chance of being bombarded with one side? THAT is my point.
Fox is morphing into a Leftist news site, so what does it matter? We need a completely new news show that is actually Right.
Pretty much stopped watching Fox. It’s just getting worse and worse, with a few exceptions and I doubt they’ll last long.
This is from the younger generation taking over the reigns. I haven’t watched the news from them for a while. I get the idea of “fair and balanced” but hitting from the extreme sides and using a racist cheater as one of their talking heads is going far too low, even for the remnant of Fox.
“…taking over the reigns.”
That’s a good pun, whether intentional or not.

Absolutely ridiculous! It’s one thing to have a different view, but quite another to be a cheat and liar!
The cherry on top is the suspension of Judge Pirro, which I thought was outrageous.
I don’t watch any so called news tv anymore, so many lies, so much anger and distortions.
They hired the lady that gave the debate questions to Hillary?!
Pathetic.
FOX is clearly messaging the DNC – if you have debates on our channel, it is okay if you cheat.
She’s indisputably known to be a lying, conniving, deceptive douchebag. Not a good look for a news station.
No, but it is a pretty consistent look for pretty much every news station/network.
Subotai Bahadur
Great point, Mr. Rutledge. Someone who betrayed her last network by slipping out debate questions? She’ll be great in the New Fox Network.
Suspend Pirro and go dumpster diving for Brazile? Ignorant.
Does this mean Republicans will get debate questions ahead of time?
I was thinking something similarly sarcastic – Maybe this means the DNC head will now grant Fox a debate since he can “trust” them now with Brazille in place…..
As far as I am concerned, Democrats have gone so far left that they fell off the left clift. I do not want to hear their point of view.
Fox increasingly resembles WWF “wrestling”.
There is a designated “villain”, in this case Donna Brazile, whose role is to repeat mindlessly the DNC talking points du jour. No matter how absurd the point, it falls on the designated villain to obdurately cling to it while the host beats up on them.
No one ever admits that they are wrong, no one ever changes their mind, and the entire wrestling match is totally predictable.
I have no interest in watching any of these leftist morons make fools of themselves, which they are apparently contractually bound to do.
Not sure you watch much Fox. You described perhaps one, or two shows. Like shrill Hannity. If you watch more than that, you’ll see a lot of opportunity for leftist viewpoints without the shrieking. Like the 6 and 7 pm slots. Only when they mindlessly chant talking points and not really answer questions are they challenged in many time slots.
It turns out that the chubby Bret Baier is responsible for the suspension of Judge Jenenne. He had one of his muslim staffers make the formal complaint to the network chiefs. Of course, Smith was there too complaining about her comments which were truthful and accurate. The only real news reporting is during the midday segment with Jon Scott. He never opines but just tells the news accurately. Everything else is opinion.
That sounds like twitter-gossip. Why would Baier “have one of his Muslim staffers” do anything? Even if the fact about a staffer is true, at best it would only be believable that they acted on their own. Otherwise, what you say sounds like contrails conspiracy noise. Tin foil territory.
I watch a lot of Fox News. What I described above occurs on Shannon Bream’s show, Tucker Carlson’s show, Shawn Hannnity’s show, Laura Ingraham’s show, and Judge Jenine’s show.
The leftist “contributors” all respond like leftist robots.
In their defense, perhaps they are actually leftist robots, so it is not an act.
I wasn’t commenting on the mindless prattle from the lefty contributors. I was addressing your implication that all hosts use them as a foil and simply beat up on them. That is 100% Hannity’s shtick, and the reason I cannot stomach his show. But otherwise, including Tucker, all others are reasoned and civil. Tucker only gets agitated when the other person is being especially outrageous, condescending, or simply calls him a racist or something, directly. If there is push back from most on the network, it’s only because the scripted and mindless words are not answering the question or pertinent to what the interviewer is trying get at. It isn’t as you describe it most of the time.
Between the treatment of Judge Jeanine and this “hire”
fox news has joined the nfl IN THE DEAD ZONE !!!
Fox has always been a means of keeping your enemies close.
They contract the really good talent like Tucker or the radio hosts like Hannity who have a huge following. Those are the lures to draw you and advertisers in. Then using them, they feed you non-stop the left’s talking points about white nationalism, climate change, Orange Man Bad!, etc. etc. Is Trump Colluding with the Russians? Here is our panel to discuss it non-stop. Is Ted Cruz an idiot, white nationalist? Our panel will yell at each other for an hour about this instead of taking an in depth look at Christian genocide or sex trafficking of children across the border.
Hannity, Tucker, etc. Etc. are the real deal and are not told what to do or say, but FOX confines them to their stable by giving them millions of dollars that no other network can afford, which keeps them somewhat contained and prevents another truly conservative from using their talent to form a truly conservative network whose purpose is not to infuse you with the left’s daily propaganda.
It’s not a secret that Murdoch’s sons who run the company are leftists. Fox News is too profitable to fire all the conservatives, but it will happen eventually. I watch OAN mostly for news.
Can you watch OAN on cable TV? Grandma watches FOX and it drives me crazy, though I do like Tucker. Maybe I can get her to switch?
It’s on DirecTV, at least.
They are discontinuing OAN on DirectTV for new subscribers. Luckily, for now it will be grandfathered in for subscribers who keep their plan and don’t make any changes. The rates went up by 20% though.
They raise their prices, I cut my package. When I’ve cut it enough, I’ll just move to streaming services like everybody else.
Fox News seems to be trying to alienate their original audience and go the CNN route. I’m sure they will enjoy losing audience share. The latest stupid move after hiring “nomination fixer” Donna Brazile is putting RINO Paul Ryan on the board.
I generally only watch FBN or OAN during the day and don’t bother with FNC at all. Even at that I avoid shows like “Bulls and Bears” with their leftist panelists spouting the usual talking points. If I wanted to listen to that, I could tune in CNN.
Fox does some dumb stuff with contributors. Remember Oliver North and former LAPD cop Mark Furman of OJ trial infamy?
Fox built a new studio for Sara Palin to opine from Alaska, and I cannot say that I miss hearing what she has to say.
I wish I knew how to short stock. It would be an easy way to make some money off FOX network. That said, I imagine they don’t really rely only on stockholders to fund their operations.
If you want to know what people watch go to a gym where they have many TV’s on. Nobody, except perhaps someone over the age of 80 is watching the network news. No one. Well, maybe someone is looking up as they set up their phone to watch something interesting. I often wonder if the gyms get paid to turn on the TV’s to boost viewership.
Let’s not forget that Donna Brazile referred to the Republicans as the “party of the white boys”. I will not watch such a racist.
Does this portend a future job in the Trump White House for old Brazzy?
Will Trump hire her if she says interesting things while he is watching Fox & Friends in the morning?
He does like hiring people from Fox despite the obvious incentive not to do it.
