Kavanaugh Accuser Christine Blasey Ford Finally Ends Fundraising
“All funds unused after completion of security expenditures will be donated to organizations that support trauma survivors.”
Christine Blasey Ford, the woman who accused now Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct over 30 years ago, emerged and released a statement to end the fundraising someone set up for her a few months ago.
The GoFundMe account raised $647,610 in the past two months with the last donation coming in at $50 five days ago. Ford wrote on the page:
The funds you have sent through GoFundMe have been a godsend. Your donations have allowed us to take reasonable steps to protect ourselves against frightening threats, including physical protection and security for me and my family, and to enhance the security for our home. We used your generous contributions to pay for a security service, which began on September 19 and has recently begun to taper off; a home security system; housing and security costs incurred in Washington DC, and local housing for part of the time we have been displaced. Part of the time we have been able to stay with our security team in a residence generously loaned to us.
Ford said she has closed the GoFundMe account and will give the remaining money to trauma survivors:
With immense gratitude, I am closing this account to further contributions. All funds unused after completion of security expenditures will be donated to organizations that support trauma survivors. I am currently researching organizations where the funds can best be used. We will use this space to let you know when that process is complete.
Then she gives accolades to those who have also come forward:
Although coming forward was terrifying, and caused disruption to our lives, I am grateful to have had the opportunity to fulfill my civic duty. Having done so, I am in awe of the many women and men who have written me to share similar life experiences, and now have bravely shared their experience with friends and family, many for the first time. I send you my heartfelt love and support.
The Senate eventually confirmed Kavanaugh. Democrats screamed that they want to impeach the justice, Ford has said herself that she doesn’t want Kavanaugh impeached or investigated. She wants to move on.

Ford’s attorney Debra Katz tells CNN’s Dana Bash in an interview that Ford only wanted to tell her story to Senate Judiciary Committee members. She doesn’t want the process to drag on into the next Congress should Democrats end up winning control on Capitol Hill.
“Professor Ford has not asked for anything of the sort. What she did was to come forward and testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee and agree to cooperate with any investigation by the FBI and that’s what she sought to do here,” Katz said.

BTW, that money may be taxable. The IRS has not made a determination on bundled gifts where the donor does not qualify for an exemption as the recipient is not a nonprofit.
Normally the size of a donation to Go Fund Me would be excludable, but the bundling poses a serious question.
Gifts are not taxable income, no matter how large they are. Gift tax is owed by the giver, not the receiver, and only on gifts of more than $15K to one recipient, by givers who’ve used up their lifetime exemption. So as long as nobody gave more than $15K neither the givers nor the recipient owe anything.
(If a giver owes tax and doesn’t pay it, and the IRS can’t collect it from them, then it may collect it from the gift itself, by deeming it to have really been smaller than its nominal amount, the rest being the tax owed. But it’s still the giver’s tax that is being collected, so if the giver owes nothing because they gave less than $15K, or because they haven’t used up their lifetime exemption, nothing is owed.)

Determination of what? What is there to determine? The gifts clearly come from the named donors, not from GoFundMe, which is just passing them on. Do they imagine they could call GoFundMe the donor and hit it up for all the taxes on all the “gifts” it has “given”?! In any case this should not affect recipients at all.
I think I know what you’re talking about, and it’s irrelevant here. As far as I know the IRS is not looking at the bundling of gifts with a view to hitting up the bundler for gift taxes, but it is looking at crowdfunding where backers get services of some kind in return, which would mean the money raised, minus expenses, is the recipient’s income and therefore taxable.
I can’t wait to see the man the Democrats are going to bring forth to bring down Amy Barrett……I want to hear how Amy is going to deny attending nude beaches in Mykonos, drunken Aspen hot tub parties….this is going to be so cool.
They’ll use the current investigations against the Catholic Church against Barrett. As demonstrated by Kavanaugh, the Dems have had time to prepare and manufacture accusations against every single person on Trump’s shortlist. Trump’s next nominee needs to come out of left field and be one hell of a fighter who enjoys mixing it up with Judiciary Committee types….. and that list is very short and very fun.

Against Barrett they may decide to go with racism instead of sex, just for variety. (They used to hit the women with “nanny” accusations, but now that illegal immigrants have been canonized that won’t work so well.)

We want it to stop right here, without any inquiry into the suspected unethical behavior of Kamala Harris, Dianne Feinstein, their staff, and of course, me, Debra Katz. We opened Pandora’s box, and now we want to shut it before the facts come out, as opposed to our preferred innuendo.
So more renovations to her home and a security service that was obviously a superfluous need since they are willing to announce rollback of it publicly.
Well, she needed new locks for both front doors (remember, two front doors is what started this mess), and then like $599,950 in incidentals.

Maybe Kavanaugh can get some of the funds for the trauma Ford put him through.
She only closed her account because the donations dried up.

The GOP is going to let her get away with it, with zero consequences. Even lend her a hand to help her up off the mat.
And then when the nominee to replace Ginsburg is burned at the stake for whatever the current stand in for “witchcraft” is, the GOP will wring their hands and whine “what could we do?”
