Boston Globe Rallies Newspapers for ‘Coordinated Response’ to Trump Press Criticism

“The dirty war on the free press must end.”

Since election day in 2016, various media outlets have attacked Trump and his supporters on a near daily basis. Yet when Trump refers to fake news as an enemy of the people, they become outraged and claim he is attacking the free press.

The Boston Globe has decided to organize a protest in print, proving once again that the media thinks it is part of the resistance. Brian Stelter of CNN is pretty excited about this:

More than 100 newspapers will publish editorials decrying Trump’s anti-press rhetoric

“The dirty war on the free press must end.”

That’s the idea behind an unusual editorial-writing initiative that has enlisted scores of newspapers across America.

The Boston Globe has been contacting newspaper editorial boards and proposing a “coordinated response” to President Trump’s escalating “enemy of the people” rhetoric.

“We propose to publish an editorial on August 16 on the dangers of the administration’s assault on the press and ask others to commit to publishing their own editorials on the same date,” The Globe said in its pitch to fellow papers.

The effort began just a few days ago.

As of Saturday, “we have more than 100 publications signed up, and I expect that number to grow in the coming days,” Marjorie Pritchard, the Globe’s deputy editorial page editor, told CNN.

The American Society of News Editors, the New England Newspaper and Press Association and other groups have helped her spread the word.

“The response has been overwhelming,” Pritchard said. “We have some big newspapers, but the majority are from smaller markets, all enthusiastic about standing up to Trump’s assault on journalism.”

Does anyone remember anything like this happening when Obama was using the power of the government to spy on and investigate journalists? Of course not. That was… different somehow.

And remember, this is the same media which threatened to dox the guy who made a funny gif of Trump fighting CNN in a wrestling ring, harassed an old woman on her front lawn and basically accused her of being a Russian agent, and supports the de-platforming of people they don’t like.

This story sparked quite a reaction on Twitter. Via Twitchy:

Here’s a thought:

It’s important to remember that an effort like this rarely appears out of thin air. So where did the press come up with this? Could it be based on a recent suggestion from far left columnist Thomas Friedman?

Eddie Scarry writes at the Washington Examiner:

Thomas Friedman: Media should work together to hurt Trump

Liberal New York Times columnist Thomas Friedman said the news media should work together and saturate the public with negative coverage of President Trump in order to erode his popularity among Republican voters.

Friedman said in an op-ed published Wednesday afternoon that if the media emphasize Trump’s personality instead of news about the strong economy, it may discourage GOP voters from continuing to support the president and benefit Democrats.

“Some healthy soul searching is taking place in newsrooms across the country these days over whether the mainstream media should be covering President Trump’s every tweet and rally,” Friedman wrote. “My answer: Absolutely! It’s the right thing for us to do professionally, and, as last night’s election results indicated, it’s the right thing to do politically if you want to see a check on Donald Trump’s power.”

As Professor Glenn Reynolds of Instapundit says, “Just think of the media as Democratic operatives with bylines.”

Then it all makes sense.

Dear small minded Tom Tom seems to forget that his “plan” to run negative stories, non-stop, against Trump is exactly what the media has been doing since his nomination. What exactly are they now supposed to do? Double down on doubling down on the same thing which is eroding any belief in the media aside from the lunatic left who are not being influenced in anyway in their Hate Trumps Love movement?

Michael Savage had claimed, years ago, that liberalism is a mental disorder. He had it right then, as they can’t string together their beliefs in a logical manner, as they contradict each other. Now, it is even worse, though I truly didn’t think the unhinged could become more unhinged… I think they broke down the door to complete insanity.

They don’t seem to understand how the 1st amendment works. No one is free from criticism.

They don’t understand their own narcissism. They’d rather destroy the nation than admit the dumbasses they have been.

The day they admit Odumbo was a dumbbell and hillary klinton was among America’s dumbest public figures, is the day alcoholics won’t need AA to overcome their denial.

They think the first amendment gives them a privileged place in our republic, making them an institution something like the established churches of Europe, or as they themselves like to grandiloquently put it, a “fourth estate”, though not one in twenty of them can name the first three.

How would this sound?

“The dirty war on the president must end.”

Not so good, huh?

If you don’t want to be seen as an enemy of the people, don’t act like one.

Milhouse, you are really wound up today, in a good way.

media has been in trouble for about 20 years now. Their advertising base has steadily eroded. There is so many sources of news, with no natural boundaries to protect their profit margins. They are dying from thousands of small cuts.

At least some of their attacks on Trump are about short sighted clickbait. Part of it is herd instinct. Meanwhile, media is driving away their base in their quest for short term profits. I killed my cable TV service about 6 years ago, a couple of years ago I dropped my print subscription to an Mlive publication, and then to spite them I started blocking most of their ads, in large part because they put out too much fake news, or maybe I should call it what it is, propaganda.

      jakee308 in reply to JohnSmith100. | August 12, 2018 at 2:22 pm

The media got in trouble when it began to succumb to communist propaganda during the Vietnam war and came out openly when it succeeded in taking down a sitting President in the ’70’s.

Since then journalist have all had as their “holy grail” the idea of bringing down politicians they don’t like the politics of (mostly Republican) and other Right wing Pop Icons esp. Christian Preachers.

What’s worse is they have become more and more left wing partisans and with Obama became openly sycophantic to the point where even low information voters became aware of it and also realized that the mainstream press had an extreme dislike of the people who applauded those the press hated.

This then bled over more and more into the other areas of the infotainment industry to where we now have actors/actresses giving their opinions as if they have any more knowledge or insight than any other person off the street. Pretend pundits.

This plus the backing of academia has given the press an overblown ego concerning that what they say carries more weight and should be accepted. Unfortunately the opposite has occurred and they now find themselves being ignored and with Trump actually being mocked and disparaged. (rightly so in most cases)

This conflict has shattered the prior general usefulness of the press as the ad hoc investigative arm of the bourgeoisie and the press has elevated itself above the politicians and more like the nobles and now demand that they receive what they believe is their just due.

They forget that they were never assigned that position and have usurped it and in doing so have dismissed the ppl from their rightful place using the competition of the press with each other to discern the facts of what is going on in the country and the government.

The people no longer receive enough information about both sides of any argument and thus are forced to take a side.

This is not good for the nation, the people or the press.

Don’t blame Trump for this. He’s just the messenger not the message. The press’s reaction tells the whole story. And it’s not one the press can admit is true.

        Milhouse in reply to jakee308. | August 12, 2018 at 3:36 pm

“The meeja” have never been respectable. It’s not so long since they were routinely and unapologetically breaking into people’s houses. And you should see the scurrilous newspapers they had in the 1790s, which made the attacks on Trump look tame.

          oldgoat36 in reply to Milhouse. | August 12, 2018 at 8:20 pm

The major difference is the papers back then did not hide, or try to hide which side of the political aisle they were on. Papers were known to be for a particular party, and had reporters from that ideology. It wasn’t balanced, but you knew what you were going to get.

Now the media is mostly one side of the story, and they suppress information and determine how you should think by caging almost every report as an editorial piece based more on opinion than facts.

There’s another aspect to the left’s MSM duplicity. The spiked stories. And the examples of what’s not found in the MSM are huge. Positive stories on Trump’s approach to governing is certainly one of the obvious. When for example do you here of the earned self-satisfaction from finally getting off welfare and accepting personal responsibility. Or positive stories from the pro-life movement. The advantages which flow from being a self-governor and removing government from the equation. So, so many spiked stories and spiked points of view not in aligned with the left.

Or truthful stories on the unrelenting 1400 year history of Islamic jihad, or the true nature of Islam, found their own sources, practices, and history.

I would like to think that more and more are awakening to toxic effect of American Pravda. The Don’s election is certainly a good sign; the coming mid-term election could be another.

fscarn in reply to pfg. | August 12, 2018 at 12:45 pm

As you point out, the stories not told. One of the more obvious is the defensive use of a firearm in stopping/preventing crime against yourself or loved ones. And in this regard just the mere display of a firearm and your willingness to use it many times wins theday. If this isn’t a pro-woman story then nothing is. But this sort of story never appears, similar to the ACLU NEVER having taken a 2A case. Never.

Childish hyperventilating. They don’t know what an actual assault on the press looks like. In the US, the administration has not assassinated or disappeared any journalists. The current administration hasn’t (as far as we know) wire-tapped any of them either, or hacked their computers to find out who is leaking to them, or used the power of the Federal Reserve to isolate them from their banks.

There is no assault on the press in America.

So what are they so upset about, really? A few aggressive tweets and some campaign rhetoric? In other words, the press is outraged that the president dares to criticize them.

Arrogant children.

So they’re announcing a new journolist? I mean if you ever stop to listen to mainstream media, the stories are all the same anyway. Can’t tell that therr isn”t collusion (sorry, coordination) already

    oldgoat36 in reply to stl. | August 12, 2018 at 8:25 pm

They strangely seem to use almost identical language as well. Phrases, which you also hear from the Democrats, in the same order, with almost the same inflections. It is nearly impossible for that many different media outlets to mirror each other so closely, so you have to think, who is feeding them these propaganda pieces, and why should we, or anyone, believe them?

“The dirty war on the truth by the media must end” Fixed it for them.

When The New York Times, supposedly America’s most prestigious news outlet, placed the author of hundreds of racist tweets on its editorial board, the press officially became the enemy of the people.

Trump has always asserted #FakeNews was the enemy of the people, but recent events show that anyone who joins the Boston Globe’s persecution of the President really must be considered “the enemy of the people”. The press shocks me by how much it can increase the level of my disgust on its antics.

The “Press” is not the enemy of the people. A coordinate corrupt “press” advocating for enemies of the Constitution clearly is.

The likes of the NY Times became a joke a long time ago. A malignant one, too.

All they have to do to completely disarm the President’s “Fake News” epithet — is to tell the truth.

casualobserver | August 12, 2018 at 1:01 pm

Huh. 100 editorial pages dedicated to negative rebuttal. How will notice this event? It’s like saying they are going to add 100 gallons of salty water to the Mississippi river. It may have one special ingredient. But it sure looks like the 2 years of water that has been flowing already.

There is real danger here, and it is not from DJT.

The old-style press is actively participating in efforts by the Democratic Party to break the American social compact and bring about The Revolution. There is no need for this: all the American people, including DJT, want from our press is an upgrade in the quality of news reporting.

Due to the availability of underlying documents and videos online, there are very large numbers of people who are painfully aware of, not just the mistakes or bias of the the press, but the existence of outright propaganda polluting our national conversation. This is a problem, it is real, and it creates both danger and opportunity for individual members of the press and their business entities.

Our local news sources, both newspapers and TV, can easily improve their coverage by breaking the monopoly of the Washington Post and the New York times over the national political news. The ability to do this exists. There are other news outlets for political topics. All the local news outlets have to do is open up to these voices rather than pretend they do not have a point.

Two camps of Romanticists, with those of us who believe in truth-telling shouted down. We live in dangerous times…

One of our local weekly rags just had a feature article on the danger of the Patriot marches in Portland. Of the 15 pics, 14 showed the patriots as aggressors or with captions alluding to violence, whereas the only picture of the antifa showed them as victims. Too bad all of the youtube vids show a completely different series of events. The press has lost all credibility among the non-koolaid drinkers. I don’t even trust them to get the scores correct these days.

“The dirty war on the dirty press must end.”

That’s the idea behind an unusual editorial-writing initiative that has enlisted scores of anti-American newspapers across America.

The Boston Glob has been contacting newspaper editorial boards and demanding the People of America listen to only the ‘opinions’ of the press and start again to ignore facts, seeing this as a “coordinated response” to President Trump’s escalating “enemy of the people” rhetoric.

“We propose to publish an editorial on August 16 whining about the administration’s assault on the lying press and ask others to whine in harmony with us. Commit to publishing their own cowardly gutless editorial on the same date,” The Glob said in its pitch to fellow publishers of fish wrap.

The effort began just a few days ago.

The Anti-American Society of News Editors, the New England Pravda and Press Ass. and other groups have helped her spread the word.

“The response has been overwhelming,” Pritchard said. “We have some big newspapers, but the majority are from smaller markets, all enthusiastic about standing up to Trump’s assault on jingoistic lies and half-truths.”

regulus arcturus | August 12, 2018 at 1:49 pm

It is time to take down political activist outlets masquerading as journalists – drop journalist shield laws and prosecute multiple media platforms (including NYT, Fusion GPS, and others) for campaign finance violations and illegal collusion with DNC.

Yes, only DNC has been engaging in this activity, so only they will be targeted.

. . . whether the mainstream media should be covering President Trump’s every tweet and rally,” Friedman wrote. “My answer: Absolutely!”

And the trap closes, as it always does. The seals dive for the chopped fish as usual, and regard themselves as frightfully clever for doing so. And the President, the animal-trainer/judo sensei par excellence, apparently wastes little effort in tying them up and confounding them utterly.

It has taken me a while to appreciate just how terribly, terribly stupid these people really are. Corrupt, childish, utterly unimaginative, sure; that stuff’s obvious enough. But they’re really stupid—aggressively stupid, the kind of stupid which insists on demonstrating it, rather than sitting quietly in the corner and simply watching a world it can’t understand go by.

Anything intelligent coming from the press or its minions would break the spell. But that’s becoming one of those things, like holding Judge Crater’s mail, which seems increasingly futile.

    jakee308 in reply to tom_swift. | August 12, 2018 at 2:33 pm

Almost none of the press in action these days has had a real balanced education.

They’re all graduates of schools that were guided by Affirmative Action, Political Correctness and not merit. They were indoctrinated as children and then went on to be fully taken into the bubble during their time at college.

They’re preceptions of the world, even their own bubble, are false and misguided. That’s why they can’t change and why so much contempt for the public.

They’re finding out more and more that lies do not sell well and this is a consumer society where what you can create and sell to someone else is how you judge failure or success. The press is failing, consistently and completely.

They will soon have no jobs and thus no voice.

And it can’t come soon enough.

There is no ‘news’ reporting by the main stream media, only ‘editorial opinion’ assertions spun around occasional facts,

Like the sun came up today and President Trump tweeted some really mean stuff that hurts my girly boy/gal feelings, so I will have a hissy fit tantrum, and really cry if he doesn’t stop it. So there!!”

Journalists are fixated at an adolescent stage of maturity, irrational whining is all they know. Pitiful, but dangerous creatures. Scratch a journalist and out jumps a totalitarian goon seeking a communist dystopia for all deplorables.

Media Colludes Again!

August 16th is a great day for anyone left who subscribes to these rags to cancel their subscriptions. I did it a few years ago with the Providence journal and, although I had a slight battle with the DT’s for a week or so, (old habits are hard to break) I don’t miss it and neither will you.

The alternate, accurate headline would be:

“Media proves Trump is right about them again.”

McClatchy News. 2005 stock was 740/share. Today 9.80/share. This is after a 10 for 1 reverse split in order to keep them above a buck a share and getting kicked off the NYSE. In reality it is down from 74.00 a share to .98 cents a share while the stock market is booming.

I recently came across a statement by a reporter who said that it was her job to tell people what to think.

The reporter (a pathetic narcissist) was taught that in exchange for being a ‘reporter,’ the reporter has to indoctrinate people with leftism.

However, it is frightening just how many people listen to thes useful idiots.

So listen to Odumbo: get in their faces.

The Fourth Estate has become filled with Fifth Columnists (pun intentional). Their narcissism has blinded them to their collective bias. When they manipulate the news to set an agenda, they have forfeited their right to be called honest media and a fair press.

Nice of the worst 100 offenders to label themselves clearly.

Funny how the media is looking for collusion between Trump and Russia but they don’t see it between the 100+ papers that are going to be printing pretty much matching editorials once the talking points come down from the DNC.

Nothing becomes a “free and independent press” like coordinated groupthink and rigid adherence to the party line.

And this is just another reason why the best use of any Boston Globe edition is to line one’s bird cage.
